Why are you shutting down, is it the Brewery putting up prices or something else?

We enjoyed a really excellent evening in this super establishment this evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. From the very warm and friendly welcome through excellent food and drink to leaving with a pleasant do come back again soon, this was an excellent evening. Well done the team at the Sparsholt Star, we will be back.

A lovely country pub that was the heart of the village gutted. Bar gone to become "front of house", along with its barstools. Dogs not allowed inside. This used to be a perfect mix of destination eating, combined with an active life at the bar, less formal food in the garden and rooms for visitors. It was the heart of the village and everyone was welcome. Now it's not even pretending to be a pub anymore ("a restaurant with rooms"). You can have a beer (at £8.50 a pint!) but if you're not eating or staying you'll be made to feel as welcome as you actually are - which is not at all. Locals tossed on the scrap heap in pursuit of weekending bankers. Slow hand-clap for everyone involved.

As a visitor from a foodie region in Australia, I was thrilled to finally find good quality, locally sourced food at The Sparsholt after a disappointing three week search... The food and service were amazing. Bonus points for pleasing my 80-year old Mum and making her feel so welcome too. She had the prawns and said they were the best that she had ever had. I had the goats cheese, beetroot & walnut salad and it was lovely. The triple cooked chips were fluffy on the inside and super crunchy on the outside. Desserts were delicious too. Highly recommend both the food, ambiance and service. Thank you!

We decided to try "recommended by the chef 5 courses". So you will pay 45£ per person. Don't expect to be overfilled with food but for that amount of money the portions are more than reasonable and decent. The product quality is really high class so you'll not be disappointed with the selection.

Contacted them by email regarding their policy for residents with dogs. No acknowledgement or reply despite contacting them a second time. A great shame as we have spent many happy days staying at the inn when under the previous management.

Disappointed indeed. Drove miles to have a celebration meal of our special day. They totally forgot about my request for our special day. Definitely overpriced and overrated for a very average pub meal.

This restaurant has a reputation locally for being expensive, but this is so far from the truth. The prices are extremely comparable with similar establishments close by. Six of us went for breakfast on Sunday last week. We had a fabulous full English, eggs florentine, toast, unlimited coffee and tea etc. On Sunday we tried the Sunday roast. The beef almost melted in the mouth and the desserts tasted amazing. The service was excellent, couldn’t have been any better, thanks Nes & Hayley. We will definitely be going back to try the midweek theme nights.

We had a lovely dinner here for our annual work do. The food was fantastic and all the staff were so attentive and made great efforts to get all the food out in good time. I had the vegetarian Wellington, which was delicious! My husband and I also stayed the night in the barn accommodation. Very comfortable with lovely facilities. We also had a very nice breakfast. Thank you Nes and team!

Lovely old village pub still serving the locals but also an excellent restaurant with a great choice of food from an original and varied menu. Well worth a visit.

We stayed at the Star for one night as a treat after Christmas. The service and food were outstanding , a seasonal menu , fabulous wine list and amazing staff . We had the most amazing stuffing scotch egg , Partridge and slow cooked beef cheeks. Breakfast was enormous, it beat both me and mny husband , we should probably have gone for something lighter, but the full english was so tempting. On the night we were there they wer short staffed but you wouldnt know it, the staff were lovely, welcoming and attentive but special shout out to Nes who looked after us brilliantly over dinner and was there bright and early to make sure we were looked after at breakfast as well. The only disappointment was the room, it needed a little uplift. It was clean, quiet and comfortable but just a little tired. I would stay again in a heartbeat however as everything else including the location was just perfect.

Amazing food made by a great Chef! Very nice service, too! Some of us had the festive menu and others chose à la carte. Both options were great! If I lived closer, I would visit more often!

Sunday lunch for three. Good service and great food. A bit noisy when busy so chatting was difficult. Was disappointed by the 'discretionary' 10% service charge on an ordinary Sunday.

This old Inn is now a top restaurant. Food and service were excellent. The meats cooked to perfection with deep rich sauce. The taste of the terrine was masked by a little bit too much salt, but this was the only issue with an otherwise flawless meal. Expect to spend £30 a head for 2 courses. New winter menu has some excellent desserts

We had the most delicious sunday roasts here as a family, all having different dishes. All were cooked to perfection and the sides were also perfect and generous in portion. Service from ness was excellent and atmosphere great. Would thoroughly recommend.

Came here for a friends birthday on a Thursday evening at 6pm. There were three of us and we booked in advance. Even though our booking was at 6:30pm, they were happy to sit us down and as the restaurant was mostly empty at this point we were given free choice of where to sit and opted for the conservatory area as it was brighter and warmer. Beofre sitting down we painlessly ordered our drinks from the bar and took them with us. The one flaw with this place is the lack of good non-wine drinks choice, but given this is a French focussed Restaurant, this can be forgiven. The interior definitely wasn't pub like and felt more like a European Bistro / Diner and it was lovely with great decor and tableware. After sitting down we ordered our food from the A La Carte menu which had a great selection of dishes for Starter and Main. After our order was taken we were brought some bread (malted seeded brown and white), butter and olives as an appetizer with a carafe of tap water. The tap water was always refilled without us having to ask which was excellent. When our starters arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the presnetation. All our dishes looked great! I ordered the Cod, and my friends the Battered Prawns and the Cheese Tarte. The only criticism of the starters was that the batter for the prawns could have been crispier as it was a tad soggy. They weren't cold though! Other than that, they tasted delicious and there were no complaints. The mains ordered were two Sea Bass Fillets and the Gingerbread crusted Hake both of which were very well received both in presentation and taste, there were no complains here! Of course we had to go the whole hog and order two desserts which were the warm banana bread with ice cream and the baked apple tart with custard. They were both excellent and we didn't have anything to complain about. We ended our meal with tea and coffee which came with some wonderful chocolate truffles. Overall, The Fish delivered in both service, ambience and food with the service being attentive and of a high quality, the ambience making it feel like were in a French Bistro and the food feeling truly homemade and presented beautifully. Full marks from us!

Warm, friendly welcome. Good pint of Amstell and such an amazing ham, tomato and mustard doorstop sandwich. The bread was soft soft!
