We have stayed 3 nights at The Star and can thoroughly recommend it. Breakfasts are excellent if not a little limited but what they provide “ full English “ and variations of are extremely well prepared. We ate once for evening meal as we like to try other places in the locality. Our party of 6 all chose different courses and were all very pleased. Accommodation all recently refurbished to a high standard. All staff friendly and attentive especially the management. Would stay again

First time we’ve been since the refurbishment and reopening. Easy to book a table. Dog friendly in the bar area. Lovely fresh modern interior in a classic country style. Staff lovely and very informative. There was a slight wait for food but staff did apologies. Food worth the wait fish and chip and the chicken burger were spot on. Well priced food and drink. Would recommend and we will be back.

Lovely looking pub, in the village of North Dalton. Not cheap for what they serve. Customer is always right except in this pub. My daughter ordered sausage and mash. Mash was very lumpy - she didn't say anything about this to the waitress. I ordered the gammon with triple cooked chips, egg and pineapple. If the gammon was as cooked as the egg yolk (solid) it might have been edible. Chef insisted it was cooked, but it was so hard to cut and looked very undercooked to me. They did offer to cook it more or let me have an alternative dish, so chose a burger, which was a better option. We were staying locally and this pub was handy to pop into. If we were in the area again we wouldn't be returning though.

Very limited GF options due to a supplier problem meaning they had no bread. Had beer battered fish and chips which were excellent. Other meals that were non GF also very good quality. Unfortunately, like so many pubs, they had no GF beer which is always disappointing.

When we arrived for Sunday lunch at 12.30pm the car park and the restaurant were both empty. This should have warned us that something had changed since the previous excellent reviews. The staff throughout the meal were excellent, kind and welcoming. Unfortunately the meal was well below the standard that we are used to in any good country pub. The starters were acceptable, if overpriced for what they were. My ham hock terrine was tasty but served with an unceremonious, large dollop of shop-bought piccalilli. My husband’s smoked salmon was declared quite tasty but not exciting. Sadly, the main courses were definitely below par. The industrially produced steak pie was encased in quite tough pastry and of the type that one can purchase at a very ordinary butcher’s shop. This is quite sad as in nearby Pocklington Dan’s pies, a local small business, supplies absolutely excellent pies at reasonable cost. The Star would really benefit from changing to this supplier. I had roast pork which was hard and obviously warmed up. I couldn’t eat it but, to be fair to the management, they accepted my complaint and didn’t charge me for this dish. I must add that the vegetables were well-served and delicious. The dessert, a lemon panacotta pie served with raspberry sorbet was pleasant but, I suspect , not home-made. The lattes were lukewarm and did not fill the cup. We had to ask for sugar and, when we did so we were given one sachet each. We then asked for more sugar, which we did receive in a pleasant manner. There were only about fourteen people in the large restaurant. The staff said this was because of the Euro football. It was noticeable, however, at another country pub not far away, the place was packed. I also noticed that the people on the table at the opposite end of the fireplace to us also complained about one of their main courses. The Star is such a lovely pub in a beautiful setting by the water and the staff are extremely obliging. It is really sad that the food is definitely second-rate. Apparently The Star changed hands in April so one can only hope that things will improve otherwise I cannot see it being successful.

Stayed in The Inn accommodation b&b for 4 nights. Comfortable and clean rooms, good cooked breakfast. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Held a post memorial service buffet - all hand made - excellent and plenty of it. All the meals we had at The Star were very good and chef prepared. Sunday Lunch is not to be missed. Would certainly recommend and stay again.

We had a very disappointing Sunday lunch when we called in. My husband had a steak pie which was obviously a commercial one not homemade and my beef was very tired and warmed up. Very disappointing after previous good food served at the Star in past times

Stuck a pin in a ( google) map to find a breakfast one hour away from leaving holiday accommodation. What a find. Interesting decor showed off the home made cakes and savouries whilst we waited a few minutes for a table. Breakfast avocado with poached eggs on sourdough bread, sun dried tomatoes, chorizo and pea shoots was divine and substantial. Staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed serving and cooking as much as we enjoyed eating. Make a detour. Worth every mile and every penny.

We visited over Easter and loved all the little chocolate eggs hidden around the cafe - kept the kids entertained whilst they waited for their food! Lovely cafe with a great menu. We ordered a range of different food but loved the halloumi burger and cheeseburger especially. It’s great that dogs are allowed in this cafe but as we don’t own a dog, even better that there are two areas - one for dogs and one where dogs aren’t allowed. Service was quick and with a smile, reasonably priced too for restaurant quality food. The only improvement needed is the toilet area - could do with a update!

A gem of a cafe, lovely staff, quality food. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, even making up a takeaway salad box and a sandwich to be collected later. Plus the cafe is dog friendly....

I don’t often go into bakery shops but we were visiting Driffield today and spotted that there was a small seating area inside at the front of the shop and a larger area further in. We were ready for coffee and a snack The shop is obviously very popular as I had to join the queue but it gave me the opportunity to look at what was on offer. Vastly superior quality to what is available in other chain bakery shops and very well priced. I don’t eat bread but the sandwiches were definitely calling to me!😹
