This pub is just lovely it's tradional inside with a fabulous beer garden. The food was delicious we had the Bouillabase with aolii baguette it was so tasty. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of the beer garden and the hills beyond. The thing that makes this pub stand out are the staff every single staff member we spoke to was lovely and so helpful. Big shout out to Leah the manager and Emma her deputy who were so lovely and willing to go the extra mile. Thank guys.

Wow- what a gem of a place to stay. The room was immaculate, comfortable and great value for money. Evening dinner was delicious - and several vegan options to choose from. The pub was busy and buzzing despite being a Wednesday night. Evening bar staff and landlady were so welcoming. They even gave me a cup of tea to take away for my onward journey!! The vegan breakfast did not disappoint and was clearly cooked by a talented chef.

We were a party of 11 who dined here the night before my daughter’s wedding. We pre-ordered the food and we were spoilt for choice. The prices were really reasonable too. The pub is obviously popular as it was busy. We were seated and ordered drinks promptly. The food all came out together and was gorgeous. The sea bass was on a daal which was delicious!!! The other meals looked great too. There’s also a good range of desserts with specials too. The star of the night was the landlady who was amazing! She was so friendly and helpful and made us feel like regulars. She even ordered a taxi for 2 of the guests for the next evening after the wedding. What a warm and welcoming person!! We will definitely come back here, even though it’s a half an hour drive from home. This is a special little gem.

We were on a short overnight family reunion and had a wonderful stay at the Star Inn. After a friendly check in we were taken to our very recently and tastefully decorated room which is in a contemporary style yet still maintaining the old cottage feel. The bar area also has a nice mix between contemporary and old traditional warm pub ambience. The garden is huge with lots of outdoor seating. Fortunately the weather meant we could eat lunch alfresco and opted for a pub lunch in the garden. The double beefburgers had a homemade feel and were very tasty. The pub has an excellent choice of different beers and ales and the bar staff are very friendly and efficient giving very fast service. In the evening we ate in the restaurant . Menu is not huge but we all agreed the quality of the produce and the presentation of the dishes was excellent. All in all a great choice for a short stay and thanks to all the staff who made us so welcome.

The Star is our favourite local pub with food. This would be our first visit since the start of Lockdown and we were intrigued to try it out once it had opened for food. We chose to book to eat outside and selected a table that seemed suitable safely-distanced. I actually like the concept of being served at the table as opposed to have to compete with the drinkers at the bar to get served and place a food order in a Pub. The staff were brilliant and it was good to see that the Manager was still the same as previous. The adaptations were all appropriate and to be expected. The key to returning to your local is knowing you are safe while the experience is relaxing. The food (and the beer - 61 Deep) was as excellent as ever. Well done guys.

Visited The Star on Tuesday and was really impressed with everything they have got in place in regard to COVID-19. It was very busy, as expected due to the government offer, we sat in the garden and ordered food and drinks. We had to wait a while for our drinks but this was expected and we could see that all the staff were extremely busy. The staff were very attentive and friendly even though we could tell they were extremely hot and must have been tired doing all that running around! Food was great and thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the beer garden in the sun for a couple of hours. Amazing service, drinks and food and even better with the discount! Thanks to everyone at the Star ( and Boris of course!!)

Poor service when you sit in the garden. Went this evening to get a drink and this is the second time it has happened Really disappointed as did like going here but won’t be going again. Lost our drink order after 20 minutes wait, we had gone in and they said will be out in a minute. Only to be told lamely by the waiter with glasses we have lost your order. So on this news we decide to go elsewhere. He retorted whatever, we are busy. So we said bye and will not be visiting again. Whatever lovely customer service lots of other local pubs with excellent service.

Waitress had only been there a week and had no training and didn't know the menu at all. 4 of us ate and 2 of the meals were very poor. The Barnsley lamb chop was raw in the middle and impossible to even cut, food served on cold plates, some veg not cooked and some well over cooked. Thai curry sauce was like milk ! Ordered a side of Garlic Ciabatta and its not even Ciabatta just a part baked baguette. We sat at the first table in the restaurant and unfortunately next to the bar which was loud and lots of bad language not appreciated by my 80 yr old mother. Food also took 40 mins from order to table despite only one other small table taken in the Restaurant.

We shared the fish platter with our friends which was very good, whilst three of us had Spanish Chicken which was regrettably not hot enough and had an overload of potatoes but acceptable. The food and service was of a very high standard and we can't thank David and Leah, the management team and their great staff enough for their high standards and attentiveness throughout the afternoon. We had a small choice of main courses and desserts and the food came out quickly and every plate looked very appetising - all guests said how much they enjoyed their food and there was very little left on the plates. We have been here several times over the years but only for a drink and have never eaten. Given the good reviews we thought we would give it a try. The sausage and mash trio was served in what looked a soup bowl so we weren’t keen the presentation. The expectation of creamy mash was somewhat different to what arrived on the plate. It was rather dry and far from creamy. The sausages were nice and the other dishes were just ok. Unfortunately it didn’t quite live up to our expectations of some sort of Gastro type pub experience. We thought the food tasted like regular pub food. Not bad and quite ok but not a wow.

My son and I stopped at the Star for an evening meal as we were staying in the area with friends. The pub itself is very nicely located in a rural setting and is nicely laid out, in that contemporary / traditional style that is now evident in many country inns. Our food was pretty decent: I had ham, egg and chips and my lad had a burger and then cheesecake. I had a pint and a half of Eagle IPA which was in peak condition. The service was slightly slow and the young lady behind the bar was professional but not especially friendly. One very bizarre thing was that food was being served just until 7pm on the evening of our visit, which is very restricting. I would have preferred to give The Star a Good rating rather than an Average, but it stopped short of being Very Good.

Lunch on a dreary, rainy day with my father and partner. We ate in the bar rather than the restaurant. The pub wasn't very busy although there were a few other customers. I had the black pudding croquettes with fried egg which I enjoyed. The croquettes would have been better if the individual components could be distinguishable. The egg yolk was still runny. For me the tomato chutney wasn't the right sauce with the rest of the dish although it did go well with the chunky chips I shared with my father. The mayonnaise lacked flavour. If this dish had been served on a larger plate it would have been much easier to eat. My father enjoyed his brie and bacon panini which was pretty standard as panini go. Apart from the 'salt incident' my partner , whose go to choice fo a pub lunch is often ham egg and chips, thought the one provide here was average.

I really hate writing bad reviews...We moved in to the area a year or so ago, and were so pleased to find this place. The pies were to die for. Served in a proper pie dish (no pastry sides), with a light, crusty puff pastry lid and delicious fillings; tender beef in a rich sauce, creamy chicken and leek...home made chips, nicely cooked seasonal vegetables. Times have changed....went again recently and got a slab of under-cooked, tough shortcrust pastry with a dry, horrible, synthetic tasting meat filling (more like a pukka pie - only drier). Bought in oven chips and lumpy gravy in a jug. This is still a lovely pub, the service is quicker, and I should point out that this review is based only on this one unpleasant dish...but I am absolutely gutted. If someone knows where the old chef has gone, please feel free to share: his/her food was excellent!

What a shame !!!!!!!I sent my dad here with a friend for lunch last week, it was terrible. They were the only two in the place all lunch time (what does that tell you)!! so consequently the atmosphere was non existent. The beer was so cloudy the barman gave him another pint which was similar!! But did apologise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They ordered food, it was presented so poorly it was diabolical!!!!They had 2 courses of which both were un appetising. My 85 year old dad came away £50 lighter !!!!!!!It is such a shame as the last time I went the food was really nice, but it was about 12 months ago. What a shame standards have dropped as it has the potential to be such a lovely village pub.Sorry won't be returning. It's a no no.Claire

Sharing fish platter from bar menuat £14.95 consisted of 2 small pieces battered salmon, 2 small pieces smoked mackerel , 8 prawns in oil, some sloppy mush that was passed off as salmon mousse, a piece of ciabatta about 4inch cut in half, and a pickled onion cut into four. Spoke to duty manager who said that chef "had short changed us" as there should have been a larger piece of bread. And that hed take the matter up with the chef.Still charged full price for a meal that was a sharer but only if you are on a high budget small portion diet.Current thinking is what was a good place to eat is now slipping into the overpriced under sized portion bracket.Dont anticipate us returning.

We came 5 years ago for the first time on day 1 of Vet school. 5 years on, graduation day and a nice venue to finish off a chapter. We sat outside in the garden and selected from a varied menu. Great burgers, fish finger sandwiches were ok but fish and chips was a bit disappointing. That aside, a great venue and nice staff.Thank you for the meals for our family over the past 5 years.

I've been here a couple of times over the years. The last time being 7/8 years ago. So when friends suggested we eat there I was cautious. After entering I was surprised at the contemporary decor throughout. We sat outside in the sun and ordered the food. It was well presented and tasted delightful.

Called in to see what it was like for a drink has I pass it every day going to work. with the thought of going back one day for a meal. That wont happen now after being charged £7.95 for a medium white wine and lemonade and a small bottle of coke. don't mid £5 or £6 but not nearly £8 for 2 drinks. So no return for a meal to this pub. Sadly it did looks nice a proper village pub.

6 of us Visited the Star Inn Sunday lunch. Service was quick and friendly. Sunday lunch looked very good, I opted for the Cajun chicken burger was was very well prepared and presented. Opted for the trifle as a dessert which was very disappointing as was the Elton mess mostly thick cream and not really worth the money. Although the next table ordered the salted caramel cheesecake which looked very good..so my loss.Would recommend and will return

The main courses for the Sunday lunch were excellent. Nice choice and all perfectly prepared. Only slight point was a 45 minute wait for the meal. Good choice of puddings but had to criticise the 'Eton Mess' - mainly cream with only a little fruit and meringue - very poor. Staff friendly and and pleasant.

Called in after a disapointing attempt to get food further up the road in Wymeswold.Very pleasantly suprised at the quality and quantity of the meal from what is an unassumingly deceptive "little pub".We had the belly pork which was cooked to perfection, with a sauce to die for.Good sized portion Beer good with a very good choice of drinks available.Service was excellent , all staff very pleasant and attentive.Nice looking menu with plenty of choice , many a little different from normal pub food.Highly recommended and we will definately make a special visit to call again.

Lovely atmosphere. Pretty surrounding, lovely outdoor sitting area, open fires. Beautiful decor complemented country feel. Dogs welcome in bar area. High end spirits and mixers on offer .Menu was promising but felt slight disappointment in Roast lunch. Everything on plate no extra side vegetables.Food wasn't all that hot.Salmon dish was very tasty and nice alternative .Would pay another visit

Visited on Easter Saturday night, expected it to be packed but they was only us and one other couple and a further couple came in later so not a lot of atmosphere which surprised me for a Saturday night. The service was fast and efficient (should have been given that hardly anyone in) and the quality of the food was very good. The menu is not that extensive and I was surprise when one of the starters was not available. I don’t usually have steak out as normally it is overpriced and never as good as having at home but there was not much on the menu that I fancied so decided to have the steak. It was excellent one of the best I have had in a restaurant and was reasonably priced. It is a lovely old pub just needed a few more customers on the night we visited to give it an atmosphere on this occasion. The last time we visited it was very busy. The quality of the food was excellent.

We visited here for Sunday lunch and I would very much recommend it. I would advise booking in advance as it seemed to be very busy and I can understand why having tasted the food. Very friendly and helpful staff too.

Stopped off for a quick lunch, this is a proper English pub. Wood fires, good beer selection, great food helpful and friendly staff that could not have been done more to make us feel welcome . And they are happy to allow dogs in which is fantastic, just like English pubs used to be . This is well worth a visit

Took the family for Sunday Lunch. The Pedigree was sublime and so creamy. Even though I had come with an appetite this just got it salivating even more. Went for the Prawn Cocktail myself, my wife shared a baked Camembert with my daughter and son's girlfriend and my son had squid. All wolfed down before a mixture of slow roasted lamb shoulder and topside of beef. Again all cooked to perfection and both tasty and filling. Rounded off with a crumble and custard. Great value for money and will be back soon.

Visited here for Sunday lunch with the family. The pub is very much in keeping of what I would expect of a traditional village inn. They serve a good selection of wines and ales. We were seated in the bar area and wished we had brought the dog as this part was dog friendly. The food was very good and the portions were plentiful. We all thoroughly enjoyed what we had.

My wife and I had been for a glorious walk across nearby Fox Hill and popped into the Star Inn for lunch. Very pleased we did. Nicely appointed, very friendly welcome, good choice of beers and soft drinks. We shared the antipasto platter which was excellent. Looking at the menu options for Valentines and Mothering Sunday suggested we will be returning for a full dining experience.

Went in mid week for coffee / tea and cake £15 for 2 , definitely not worth that much as customer service was poor . Served in an unfriendly manner and cake came well after the drinks were served . For that price i would have expected more Won’t be going back

This is our favourite restaurant/pub and after three years of regular visits and superb food every time, I thought it worth a well-earned high-praise review. Apart from the occasional evening event, (they hold special themed nights from time to time), it's generally lunches we go for. The quality of the food is consistently high and the service very friendly and professional. The menu is understandably quite small, given that everything is cooked to order but seems varied enough for most tastes. Despite the high standard of cooking and produce, the prices are very competitive indeed. It does get quite busy some days despite being a bit off the beaten track, so best to book if possible. There is a large secluded back garden with seating, (where they hold their events), and a good children's play area. The building itself is still an old unspoilt country pub and serves at least two different real ale. Can't fault the Plough at all really.

Lovely place, lots of beautiful things in the garden section and household. Wonderful Christmas dept for decorations and lights to beautiful gifts. Unfortunately the breakfast in the cafe wasnt as good, we tried the avocado on toast for breakfast, and it wasn't up to much one piece of toast with a small dish of avocado which really didn't look appetising, , and really wasn't up to much at all , we left most of it. Advice try something else

Food was good however the customer service let the evening down a lot. The food order was taken wrong, understandable. We were charged for the more expensive one, unsure of the difference, I asked about this that was met with the manager being rude and giving us the 50p difference. Not a singular apology, especially with one of our meals arriving when the others were about finished. Ordering deserts was met with more rudeness from her and the whole interactions tainted our evening. After a few times of visiting here we won’t be back as would feel uncomfortable with her service again.

Owner shouted a lady out the pub after she went to the loo. That is not what a respectful staff member should do and I’m disappointed that that would happen in the local pub.
