The Star Inn in Mid Sussex

I visited today with my Dad and son for a last minute lunch. Emily welcomed us warmly at the check in and although we hadn’t booked she found us a table. When I asked about bringing my dog in she explained about the dog friendly area and showed me the doggie station which was well stocked with water bowls, blankets and treats available for a donation to MacMillan. The lunch menu was reasonably priced and the food was delicious. We were so impressed with the service today. Thank you Emily and Angie for looking after us.

Lovely Lunch with family today, great service from Emily and Nicky and the food was wonderful, comfortable ambience and will return again soon. Highly recommend

I came to the star inn with my family recently and I had seabass, which was lovely , and I must say the service from all staff was amazing and we felt very well looked after ! Will definitely visit again

We have used this pub on many occasions and have always found the staff efficient and very friendly, and the food excellent. On this occasion my wife did a surprise 80th birthday party for me where Nicky the manager put on a fantastic Buffet for about 25 guests. The food was of a very high standard and quality, and plenty of it. We were not rushed and the atmosphere was great. All the guests enjoyed themselves and many said they would be returning to enjoy a meal there. All in all i had a great time and a memorable birthday and would like to thank Nicky the manager and all her staff for a great day, and look forward to returning. Many thanks Rita and Bob Hewett

Lovely evening meal to go with our stay at the Premier inn. Friendly staff. Food was good and well priced. Also the breakfast the next morning was lovely.

Us work group stayed at the primary inn all week and visited the star inn next door,we had a very warm welcome from Bell / Lily , and did much of the menu thoughout the week , and i got to say the food was excellent!!! Everything was cooked to profection and great service by both girls and all the staff. we will all be back next week!!! Big thanks 😊

Came for our pre paid breakfast. Not to the normal premier inn standard. One toaster for everyone to share resulting in long wait. Although not a buffet breakfast felt like it had been sat on hold for quite some time. Sausages were inedible. And croissants tasted like they were days old.

Lovely welcome. Great food, freshly cooked and very tasty. Service was outstanding, we were given time and space to enjoy our evening. Highly recommended and very close the Crowne Plaza hotel, good value food well priced and drinks not overpriced either.

This pub has a cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. We have been to this pub before when staying at the Crowne Plaza just a 5 minutes walk away. It offers a good range of food options on its menu and they also have daily specials. The food was hot and presented nicely and the portion sizes are great. Usually the mains are pretty filling. We had a venison mixed grill, a pie dish and an Irish Coffee, all were fantastic. The service was really good and staff were attentive. The pub tends to get very busy/booked up so I would recommend booking online which is quick and easy to do. They do also have a car park but it can get busy. I would highly recommend visiting the Star Inn for a bite to eat if you’re passing.

Firstly they have good Covid measures in place. Secondly the service, food & price all made a late afternoon a very enjoyable experience. Will be back and would recomend.

I thought I’d leave a review after the great service I received. Sarah and Craig were great all evening, very attentive, friendly and speedy! The food was excellent so hats off to the chef! Keep up the great work Sarah and Craig!

Visited on bank holiday Monday. We had booked before hand, got a lovely table outside. Weather was perfect and it was not very busy. Once seated we used the Greene King App to order which was very simply. Staff were courteous and food arrived in good time. Proportions very excellent and the food was very good. I have the Chef's grill platter which was excellent. Kids portions also really good. For desert we had the sharing platter which was excellent. Overall very enjoyable experience.

Had a lovely evening out with 2 friends. There was a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. The food was delicious, the service good, the staff friendly and helpful. Thank you Sara, Suzie, Tania.

We used meet weekly at the Star before the lock down and enjoyed the food, beverages, and the craic. I’m afraid the food needs to come up to a pre-lock down standards (tepid fish and chips and over cooked mash for instance) before we will return and perhaps, we should have made staff aware of this before writing this review.I have previously written a review of the Star which was positive.See ya in the future!

After a hard day at work , these girls looked after us and cooked us a lovley meal . Sara particularly was brilliant , great customer service great attitude and a genuine care for customer needs . Every 1 was brilliant, food was spot on

The pub looks to be taking all necessary precautions to stay covid safe. Some tables are out of use to maintain distancing, staff wear masks and there's gel at the door.Staff were all friendly and helpful.My veggie burger was a bit dried out (still good) but apart from that everything we had was delicious.

Staying at the Premier Inn next door I was a bit sceptical of the five star reviews from contributors with a single review.In fact we were pleasantly surprised.Warm welcome and a warm restaurant on a cold and rainy night.Good beer and wine selection.Sunday roast was pretty good,the Turkey and veg top class,roast potatoes less so.Decent bowl of soup and Stilton mushroom on toast.Very friendly staff.Good value

We have used this Star Inn regularly over the years. Service and quality of food is good. Staff always friendly and helpful. Food is well presented and tasty.Service sometimes can be a tad slow, but not an issue. Leaves time to talk or read while you wait - whatever floats your boat!There is a good menu to choose from, it is a challenge to decide what to order! to get a booking.

We have gone to The Star Inn for lunch most weeks since the Government's Eat Out to Help Out offer started, and have very much enjoyed the food on every visit - the quality is excellent and there is such an extensive menu we still haven't tried all the dishes we like the sound of. Before the 2nd lockdown there was a specials menu for several weeks and we tried most of those dishes which were also excellent. It is a welcoming and pleasant environment where we feel totally safe, and the service is excellent - today we would like to thank Alex and Mark who were the chefs, and Nathan and Harmony for the service. We have booked to return next week.

Cannot fault the staff or decor, but that is beaten by the food .... ohhh my it’s good and can highly recommend to all ages and pick anything and you will not be disappointed. Will be coming back and already looking forward to it.

Had a lovely evening. Food was really good, and plenty of choice. Sara our waitress was fabulous. Most importantly we felt very safe, adherence to COVID guidance was very evident without being officious, everything explained clearly, thoroughly but in a friendly way which was very reassuring for our first family trip out. Always a fantastic time at the Star regardless of the terrible circumstances of COVID 19. Craig, Nathan, Josh and the team never fail to make us feel welcome, making it a great experience. Food is always good, now with many tasty specials. A special thank you to the team for making Morag’s birthday visit very special.

Whenever we are in the area, perhaps on our way home from Gatwick or Crawleywe always stop off for a meal. The ambience adds to the occasion and the choice of food and presentation has never let us down. The fish & chips platter ( me ) and the Tikka Masala followed by chocolate fudge cake ( my wife ) take some beating.

We had a lovely lunch at The Star. The service was great, the food good and we felt extremely safe. It was a great experience, enjoyed by all four of us.

Amazing food, our safety was most obvious from first stepping inside the door to being seated by the informative and attentive staff. Although we were early for our booking this was no trouble. The menu was excellent and the Sunday Roast was amazing I believe it’s was George and James in the kitchen I have to say the food was splendid so good we even managed to just about fit in a dessert!! Would definitely recommend a visit the staff were so helpful the service was brilliant and can highly recommend the non alcoholic wine.. so good the white and rose were tasty as was the sublime food!! Can’t wait to visit again!

Outstanding service, attentive, but not over bearing. Good recommendations for food. Did not feel like your usual Greene King, this place is an actual decent restaurant, with fresh food and high standards.Had the Rib Eye, which I don't normally order when out as places struggle to cook it correctly, but this was perfect medium rare.

Had dinner and breakfast here as we were staying at the Premier inn across the way.Star inn had excellent protocol for access during Covid.Staff fully explained the situation. Josh our waiter was excellent.No disrespect but we now mention him as" No problem " or "No worries ".And nothing was.He was a brilliant waiter and was quite happy to have a quick chat.Professional friendly.Other members of the staff were also very happy to help and nothing was too much. Meals were lovely. Thank you.

Stopped here as it’s a chef and brewer. The welcome is second to none, the food was excellent and the service first class. Covid measurements in place are impressive. The manager is clearly someone who takes standards very serious, with all measures in place explained on arrival ( which don’t contradict).Thank you for a wonderful dinner, definitely will revisit.

We stayed at the premier inn next door for 2 nights and on arrival late Friday night, we called in for a quick drink. Staff were amazing, really friendly and helpful. Covid measures in place are second to none and the service was faultless. We had breakfast there both morning and an evening meal on the Saturday night. Once again service and staff were fab and couldn’t do enough for you. We were made to feel so welcome from the minute we stepped through the door and never once felt like strangers. Your staff are an absolute credit to you, your food is great and we can’t wait to return. Thank you.

Stumbled across the Star after a long busy day in Sussex and Surrey. From the moment, we walked in, we felt at home and more importantly safe.Some of the best covid measures that I ve seen in a restaurant, great one in one out in the toilets and clear instructions from staff and floor pads to aid.Greeted by a young lady called Nicky, she was welcoming, and a great host throughout the night. I will definitely return to this restaurant next time I m around this neck of the woods. Well done and thank you !

The only pub in Felbridge so we often use it. The food has always been good but they were well known for friendly but very slow service. Strangely during this Covid era, they seemed to have more staff working. Food was as good as usual, very friendly and helpful staff and excellent value for money. Our waitress (Sophie) was lovely

Tried this Greene King run pub and was pleasantly surprised. Clear Covid precautions without being silly, good decor and friendly staff.I just wish the GK order & pay app wasn’t so annoying and that humans still took orders. It took me way to long to download, register, try and login, register again for WiFi etc...I had the 2 course / £13.99 and it wasn’t smaller portions or stuff they needed to get rid of, it was good, honest food. Hunters Chicken followed by Apple Crumble (not enough custard)Background music was a bit loud but it was not overpowering.It’s better by a country mile than the Crown Plaza over the road where I was staying.

Just had a fantastic meal (vegetarian) at The Star Felbridge. Really friendly, good food, excellent service and felt very Covid safe. Well done all Highly recommend it !

I really enjoy coming to this pub. The staff are great. Very friendly and efficient. They have gone above and beyond with safety measures to ensure the safety of all their customers and staff. The signing in process is quick and easy. There is a good range of food and drink. Including cocktails. Overall great experience and I will continue to come back to this lovely pub.

Had a great experience here recently. Considering the circumstances they have really stepped up to the challenge. The sign in process is quick and easy, one way system In place, PPE worn by staff and social distancing fully adhered to. My little pup came with me and he got a lovely treat of dog friendly ice cream which kept him very happy. Friendly staff, great food, overall fab experience. Will definitely be coming back

We were sent there for breakfast given it supplies catering for the Premier Inn opposite. Staff were awful. We booked a table for 9.45 then upon arrival were told they were closing at 10 due to a staff meeting. Manger was rude, surly and angrily stressed despite the place being empty. Chav infested dive with zero interest in customer service. If you say at the Premier Inn opposite DO NOT TAKE THE BREAKFAST, there's better establishments galore a short distance away.

We looked forward to visiting the Star Inn after our visit last year and we weren't disappointed! Scottish mussels to start, huge portion in a lovely white wine sauce, The Steak and Red Wine pie for mains was beautiful huge chunks of meat with full mushrooms and lovely gravy i asked the friendly waiter who was in training could i have more gravy and without any hesitation kindly brought more, our 2 friends had the Sunday Roast the other sirloin steak which looked delicious all with very generous portions. Super friendly team and carried out safe socialising seamlessly, can wait until our next visit.

We visited for dinner and we weren’t disappointed. Signature gosh and chips were to die for and my partner’s steak was scrummy. Staff were attentive and followed strict covid-safe guidelines. The ‘engaged/available’ sign for the loos was a nice touch. We felt very safe and very well looked after. Popped in for drinks the following afternoon and the same level of cleanliness and attentiveness was applied by the staff. Great pub. Will definitely be back!

Was such a pleasant experience for the wife and I, all the staff were in high spirits, polite and friendly and were definitely on top form providing us with excellent service. All tables and bar were clean and tidy and wiped down when patron left well done guys

We enjoyed a great meal here. It was fully Covid safe and super attentive service. The food was great value and even with how busy it was due to eat out scheme it didn't feel over stretched. My partner and I have been shielding so was cautious about eating out but this pub have got it spot on. Straight away they advised us about disinfecting everything, the cutlery came out with cling film over it and it just felt so right to be there. There was also a one way system all marked out clearly. Nathan, who was one of the managers, was especially helpful, reassuring and friendly. I would defo go back as the food was great too.

We had a lovely family meal at The Star. Our waitress, Sara, made us feel very welcome. She was funny and friendly and even offered to take a photo of our family (which she did). We didn’t have a long wait for our food and it was really good. Each member of our party was happy with their meal. We really enjoyed our evening. Thank you so much.

We looked forward to returning after lockdown and were not disappointed. Warm welcome from all the staff: Craig, Nathan, Niki, Priscilla, Sarah, Harmony and whoever I left out. Food was fabulous; I never tire of the Atlantic cod, triple cooked chips, the soft water crust pastry of the pies or the gourmet burgers, to mention a few.

You have an image of a chain pub. The Star is batting well above expectation. The food was of the highest quality. Beautiful in every respect. The service was exempliary. Seriously impressive. That’s it.

Brilliant food a drink. A large group of us visited, Nathan was always on hand to make sure we could be served. Nathan looked after us every day we visited during our stay. He accommodated everything we asked for, and always made sure we were happy. Nathan is everything you could ask for in an employee.

Our first trip out for a meal and drink since lockdown and slightly concerned how it would go. We needn't have worried, very pleasant helpful staff, spotlessly clean, ordering via the app straightforward and very prompt service. Food choices as good as ever and meals excellent. Following 15 weeks of lockdown we decided to venture out into the new ‘normal’ for having a drink and meal. Booked a table via the app with no problem. Greeted by staff member on arrival who explained the new procedures for being Covid19 safe such as one way round the pub, hand sanitising and use of toilet facilities. Once seated at our table it couldn’t have been easier to order whether it be via the app or by staff attending to your table. All staff friendly and welcoming and donning PPE which made for a pleasant celebratory meal for husbands birthday. Well done!!

Visited here a few times when in the area for work and loved everything about it.The surroundings, the service and the food were without a single complaint and all at a very reasonable price. The menu has a wide selection of dishes which will appeal to all tastes. I would recommend the steaks, gourmet pies or the burgers. For dessert the crumble and custard was one of the best I’ve tasted.All the staff were very helpful and professional. Thank you Sara for the extra touch of fine dining with the custard.If I’m ever in the area again this will definitely be a place I’ll be visiting again.

We called here after a stressful day and were pleased with the way we were received and served.It was early evening and very quiet. The drinks and food were served promptly and we enjoyed our food We had a pie and sea bass. Because it was so quiet it is impossible to judge how good it would be if very busy'However well done for us.

Very friendly and efficient staff. The meal came quite quickly and was well presented. Very good value and I would recommend it to anyone!

Not a good experience. Food very mediocre. Ordered a Diet Coke and wine, wine arrived and was spilt across the whole table. Inexperienced member of staff. The steaks were below standard and the puddings were not up to scratch. Whilst the visit was during the week, the food and the service should have been much better. Not a decent meal and Chef and Brewer should have done better.

Delicious food, helpfull staff. We came unexpected and Sara made it possible for us to have diner. The cooked lamb shoulder and the lamb pie were very tastfull.

I am eating here for the last three days. All dishes are good, the service is great with that flair of camaraderie that sets the ambiance perfectly. I definitely will eat here the remainder of my stay in grinstead.

I came here for breakfast via the adjacent Premier Inn. I have been here before and the quality is variable. This was one of the poor visits.

Fourth vist and a forth faliure.

Had an early Burns night special with friends. At £21.99 for four courses we were a little concerned as to what the quality would be. No need to worry.Portions were of a reasonable size and of good quality.Two of our party started with salmon and scallops, the others with cullen skink before proceeding with haggis and neeps. All the party opted for medallions of venison as the main course. For dessert one had cranachan,, two the gigantic cheeseboard while the most rotund of our party went for the kirsch and chocolate torte with clotted cream ice cream.

This was our second visit. Like the first we were staying at the Premier Inn next door. Could it be that brilliant again? Yes it could. The genuine smiles of the staff were just as warm and the food and drink were well up to expectations. The real ale was absolutely superb.

Impromptu visit last night after a stressful day at work. Greeted by a lovely smile from a young lady behind the bar (Emma). Lovely pint and great food. Made my troubles disappear. Definitely be back again.

Really great meal out with the family.

We visited this Pub, which is part of a chain late December. We were greeted by friendly staff and locals, some of whom were lucky enough to be sitting by an open log fire- note to self, get there earlier next time ! Seriously however we had a reserved table as I am a wheelchair user. As it is an older building I have to say it has been made as accessible as can be expected and we encountered no problems on our visit.

Stayed next door in the Premier Inn. A fried breakfast took 40 minutes to cook and when it arrived half of it was cold or under cooked. When we sent it back it came back out a minute later, when queried we were told they had microwaved it. Sent it back again and an hour from first ordering we still didn’t have our breakfast. Service and food quality was terrible with excuses being made about having to cater for a large party however they admitted that this party had been booked in the previous day. A full refund was received but will eat elsewhere in future.

We were greeted and shown to our table, drinks were ordered, it was extremely busy being Christmas Day. We all enjoyed our Dinner, the Festive Atmosphere. There was a delay for the puddings and not only for our table, but it was packed and Christmas Day. I will be going back next year. I feel comfortable and relaxed there.

Family and I had a great time dining at The Star Inn during our 2018 Xmas holiday in UK. We stayed near the restaurant. Due to the positive experinece, our kids requested to go back to The Star inn again for our 2019 Xmas holiday again in UK. We enjoyed the delicious food, nice ambience and great customer service.

Hunter's chicken was very good; fish & chips also great. We arrived during the dinner hour without reservations. They accepted us in and provided good seating. The dinner was very good and service good.

We visited on Thurs Dec.19th evening having made a phone booking, were seated very promptly and quickly shown menus etc. Drinks order followed soon after and Sara who looked after us was friendly, helpful and made every effort to make us welcome. All six meals were served in good time and all together and the meals were surprisingly good.

As usual, lovely atmosphere and great staff, love the decorations BUT who picked the Christmas music Greene King, the Chipmunks, really. Get with it and play something more cheerful and a bit more modern

We have eaten here before and the food has been OK. And I would say this is still a nice pub to sit inside for a drink, with an open fire and some small little alcoves to sit in. The pub doesn't have particularly nice views or surroundings, but that's where it is located. On this occasion, my wife ordered the chicken salad which looked nice and fresh with a nice crisp crostini. I ordered the mixed grill, which looked very good value for what it contained. However, the gammon steak and chicken breast were tiny, with a strange flavour. The rump steak was not very big and was quite tough. It would be better to charge more for a proper mixed grill, or not do one at all.

Given a warm and friendly welcome by Harmony. The pan fried hake in a mussel chowder was one of the best meals I’ve had in the Star (I cleaned my plate). Many thanks.

MORE staff would have helped the evening. We waited 5/10minutes to be seated due to the two serving/waiting staff being extremely busy.

Friends visiting took us for dinner here at the Star and it was a delightful experience. I will return.

Stayed at the Premiere Inn next door for my birthday weekend with my partner.

Staying overnight before flight tomorrow, all staff really friendly especially Harmony she was very attentive, smiley and bubbly, food was fantastic no complaints at all and prices were excellent... I would definitely recommend. Thanks for making the start of our holiday great

My third time here and every time is a disaster!! Table booked this evening for 7.30...shown to table 8pm!! Minimum 50 minutes wait for food (a table of 8 before me had been waiting over hour to order!!)...one member of bar staff and attitude of manageress was....not my problem!! It is and needs sorting....cannot cope and I’ve wasted 2 hours before walking to local Chinese!!! If you’ve got hours to spare give it a go....otherwise avoid!!!!

We eat here most Wednesdays and have to say along with a good value menu, George & Liz are the mainstays of the inn. Please keep up the good work along with the pleasant atmosphere and I imagine they will be busy this coming Christmas season.

We came here Holloween night for the quiz and a meal. The food was excellent and they had decorated the pub for Halloween with spiders, cobwebs and bunting. It was really good, even the quiz was based on everything spooky.

Stayed at an inn nearby just for a night (next day had to catch a plane). It was nearby my accommodation. Nice meal and atmosphere. Exactly what i needed for the night.

Lovely meals not far from my home, thank you! Most restaurants beam with spicy food that I cannot eat because of my alkergy, so the pate and steak pie were oerfect for me!

After visiting family we swung by The Star for a quick bite. Polite, friendly waitress greeted us and quickly got us seated before taking a drinks order. Great choice of food on the menu and the kids choices are also good.

Decided to visit the Star Inn, Felbridge as we had a voucher and had also had a good meal at Chef and Brewer Solihull last week. Unfortunately there was no atmosphere and service could have been a lot better.

We visited the Star Inn on a Sunday evening as we were travelling home. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who asked if we had booked. We hadn't but she showed us to a table. My husband and myself skipped a starter and went straight for the main which was a steak and red wine pie and mine was a chicken and mushroom pie. They when they arrived they were satisfyingly huge and we just about squeezed in a chocolate & fudge cake and a Kent Apple & Blackberry tart mmmmmm yummy. Not the cheapest meal but definately worth every penny. Staff were very nice and helpful. Well worth a visit

My last visit to this establishment was a while ago and at that time I was not impressed. Tonight we returned with family for a catch up meal and I must say I was delighted with the turn around.
