Nipped out for a weekday carvery and this did not disappoint. Staff were friendly and helpful, carvery was absolutely delicious with fresh veg with a huge selection. My youngest had a burger from the menu which he really enjoyed. Such good value for money and one not to be missed!!! We will return

Me and my friend had a roast dinner in the early evening, a few hours later both severely ill with what seemed to be food poisoning. We know it was 100% from this carvery as this is only food we ate. We had stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhoea. We had to take days off work we were so ill, avoid this restaurant at all costs. I have addressed this with Green King, and they are no help whatsoever with addressing this situation. 0/5 experience would never return.

Seven of us visited on a Sunday afternoon for a carvery. A full car park is always a good indicator of a pub's popularity. We weren't disappointed. Despite a long queue for the carvery, it was well worth waiting for. Tender meat and tasty vegetables. Will return

Went Sunday booked everything all OK until we arrived. 30 minutes to get to pub to be told they are not serving carvery any more today the time was 4pm Great walked out never to return. Booked could have emailed or phone to save our time but no chance of that here. Avold in future.

Came in for a carvery and was to early ordered chicken loaded fries and was disappointed to much sauce and chicken very dry. My main upset bar maid unable to make my porn star martini so went away very unhappy

Awful. Normally have a good meal here, but our Fathers’ Day lunch was terrible. Had paid a deposit to make a reservation - like anybody would have on this particular day- but not reminded of this when I ordered our meals, so had to ask for a refund later. Surely it should have been a matter of course to ask everyone when ordering on this specific day.The pub was extremely busy but, though carvery dishes were topped up regularly, the food was barely warm. The beef my husband had was so fatty that it was impossible to cut or eat.The staff were too busy to ask us if we were enjoying our meals. We didn’t bother with desserts.

I have been going to “The Star on the Rhoddy” for over 40 years and have obviously witnessed many changes. We were keen to visit again following the recent refurb and we did today. Himself had pie and mash and said it was lovely Having had lasagna here many times before I opted to have this again. However it was like a microwaved ready meal, and not a good ready meal at that! I was very disappointed and couldn’t eat much of it as it was gungy, tepid and unpleasant. Such a shame because I had been looking forward to it all day. It was also cold in the whole pub. I know it’s June and we are having rotten weather but I really don’t want to have to sit there with my coat on. We watched people walk by us expressing the same sentiments I am only giving the score of 3 due to his meal which as I said, he was happy with Do i recommend? Not really Will I return? Unlikely

I visited this restaurant last night. There was no carvery and the food that was served was absolutely disgusting. There were flies around the food, the lasagna that I ordered was shrivelled and dry, practically inedible. Waitress staff were rude and we were left at the entrance with no acknowledgment for 10mins. Absolutely dreadful and will not be returning.

This is a amazing place to go and have a big party, We had a party of 30 and the place was packed. The food flew out, half off the menu and half of us had carvery. Chef cooks a great steak and it didn't cost the earth, great value for money. We had a great time and would like to thank all the team for looking after us

This Pub shut and had a complete refit, it’s now been completed and Ollie has done a wonderful job, Staff are helpful and friendly, food is lovely and plenty of it, booking is a good idea as weekends get full quickly, but definitely worth visiting.

We visited The Star for the first time today. Had the carvery meal which was excellent. Plenty of vegetables and all the trimmings. Staff were pleasant and the pub is roomy with plenty of tables. We took our drinks outside after to enjoy a dry spell, at last! Good parking and easy to find on the main road east of Congresbury. We will definitely be back.

Had the Best food here, was absolutely delicious! The staff also were 100% top at what they do, soo friendly and helpful. Great place to go if you want the tasty food, the best service and a nice family friendly atmosphere. We absolutely will be back👍

Took my mum here for lunch (last time visited this pub was in excess of 20 years ago)! Was expecting to have standard pub lunch of fish and chips/hunters chicken but when we arrived people were queuing at the door for the carvery! We decided to have the carvery and could see why it was so busy, was a really nice meal. We are small eaters so we were pleased to see we could order a small carvery, which was the perfect sized portion for us. Meat was tender and veg/potatoes fresh and cooked well. We finished our meal with the chocolate cookie & ice cream which was delicious. Will certainly be returning in the near future!

Brilliant staff, fablous carvery and a beautiful venue. We came as a table of 7 and none of us was disappointed. Can not recommend the star enough. Thank you to them. We will 100% be coming back.

We enjoyed everything about our visit, the refurb of the pub is lovely the team are friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent also the prices are unexpectedly reasonable. We will be back and we are telling all our friends and family to pay a visit!!

if your thinking of going for a carvery save the hassle. Waited 30mins to find a car parking spot to then be blocked in for a further 30 mins an hour stuck in car park and still no spaces. Cars all blocking the road even the police Turnt up because causing so much problem. manage your bookings to your car park capacity.

This has got to be the worst carvery in the area last time we came it was before it got refurbished but it didn’t work, at least the dogs at home got something to chew on.

Was greeted by the member of staff when coming in. She was really friendly and helpful. We have loved coming to this pub for food. The food was lovely. The only thing I recommend is different music if possible.

The star serves an excellent carvery available as small, standard and large to suit all appetites at a very reasonable price. The meat is perfectly cooked and a great variety of vegetables. Very freindly and helpful staff combined with a cosy atmosphere make this a great relaxing dining experience. Brilliant.

Spent the evening in this amazing pub, the atmosphere is great. A lot of options of drinks from draught & a big menu filled with pub classics. Ended up being interested in the Carvery which was oh so tasty with loads of options from mash to parsnips, carrots, sprouts which were perfectly cooked. You can definitely feel the Christmas festive spirit as soon as you enter through the doors. The staff members are fantastic and their customer service is worth the 5*. Thank you Eli and the Team. Can’t wait to be back.

Went for dinner with friends, was so looking forward to a carvery. When we got back to the table the food was only warm. Staff did ask if all was okay, we mentioned that the food was not hot. They offered to reheat it, I don’t like reheated roast dinners.

I'm a regular customer at the star, always made to feel welcome especially by Charlie who is bar staff. Always happy and very professional and great at his job. Definitely the best team member they have here.

The menu wording still isn’t clear enough for anyone to understand. We had a look at the Carvery. We asked how the beef was cooked as in rare medium and well done. We where only told how long it had been in the oven for which was 14 hours meaning it would have been over cooked. Some of it had been reheated from yesterday. The roast potatoes looked soggy. Upon ordering our meals we where told there wasn’t certain items available on the menu. Why can’t we have been told this before we went to order. The two burgers we had where presented like the chefs couldn’t care about doing things to spec. There was construction works going on which made people uncomfortable

Myself and my partner come here all the time, the location is lovely and really easy to get to from our home. The staff are lovely and the food is typically pretty nice, it's a greene king so we're never expecting anything amazing. I also come here with my family and we've got to the point where most of the staff know us and one has even remembered our drinks order! A really good option for a casual meal with friends or family. Just don't expect 5 star quality food as it is a chain restaurant.

We have been for a family birthday meal tonight and were extremely impressed by the knowledge of the staff around our vegan and gluten free requirements. All of the staff we spoke to were absolutely great. They are a credit to your company. Polite, friendly and so helpful. The food was lovely and great value. We will be back.

We’ve always had a lovely meal here, but this visit was very disappointing. My partner ordered Fish, chips and peas. The fish was hot, but the chips and peas were ‘warm’. I had the Scampi and chips, and again the the Scampi was hot but the chips and peas were only warm. We were informed on arrival that they had been busy but had quietened down now. But we still waited 35mins for our food. The ‘young’ staff seemed more interested in interacting with each other than checking on their customers. Sorry to say it was very disappointing visit

Just got back from a fantastic evening out at The Star. Upon entry to the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who led us to our table. The atmosphere in the restaurant was friendly and warming. The service at the bar was great, with our food order coming to the table within 15min of ordering. All our meals were well presented and cooked to perfection. The bar/restaurant staff were all friendly and very approachable to deal with. Thank you to all for making a family night out, a great night out.

What can I say apart from there’s a Star at the Star! Dining at the pub and tried to get a table back 1 mile to the hotel only to struggle and get any taxi firm taking the mick. Not only was the food and customer service great but one man went above and beyond. we told him of our struggles where we’d have to walk back 1 mile in the dark to the hotel as no taxi was willing to get us and HE OFFERED TO DRIVE US BACK! What an absolute gent. This guy is the star. I’m absolutely gutted I didn’t get his name. All I know is he wears glasses. He should be commended by Greene King!

Came for a meal whilst visiting the area. The food was lovely and the staff even more so. A warm welcome, a great atmosphere and delicious food at really good price. Will definitely go back when in the area again.

We called in here for a meal at teatime. Charles behind the bar was very helpful. We sat in the conservatory which was light . The food was very good and the service was fast.

We come to the star a lot as a family the staff are so friendly and helpful always smiling and nothing is too much trouble! The manager is always happy to help. And through out the pandemic they have been very virulent with all aspects of COVID can’t praise them enough.The food is beautiful we have never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend it!!!

We had a family gathering with a group of 20. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The good was all delicious and fresh. Not the usual pub food that sometimes has the odd bits of food that is not right. It's all the Same good quality. We have eaten there 5 times in the past 2 months and love it. Highly recommend if you want a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and nice food.

The menu wording really need improvements. My 90 year old grandma could hardly read it. Some of the menu descriptions are unclear. The staff put us in a very noisy part of the restaurant so we always got distracted. We had two pies which where good but nowhere near enough gravy and peas where different colours again. The Bakewell tart recipe needs to be addressed. It’s probably the poorest excuse for a Bakewell tart I’ve ever seen. The staff made us feel rushed. One of the staff behind the Carvery was eating something whilst going into the kitchen. The fish and chips we had was good

Staff are super pleasant & when we asked about colouring sheets for our little ones they said they had unfortunately ran out but would go get some more printed for us. Really happy with the service we received tonight. A* service guys. Will definitely come back soon.

Two of us visit 7pm on a Friday. Attentive staff, good choice pf menu at reasonable prices. Meals arrived within 10 minutes from ordering. Nice tasting and well presented by polite waiter. Definitely would call again. Only downside was running out of hand sanitiser at the entrance and there being no bottle at the check in table.

I came away with my family and we were staying at the hilton on cadbury hill. We found this restaurant as it is not too far from the hotel. We ended up visiting for 3 nights of our stay! The food never disappointed and decently priced as well. It was a great value for money and if we were ever in the area again we would 100% come back. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience better.

We recently went to The Star for then Sunday Carvery Lunch following numerous compliments we had heard. The main reason for us was the extensive vegetarian options offered as one of our party of 6 is vegetarian. On arrival we were met by Charles who has a most welcoming personality and made us relaxed from the outset. He is a credit to the company. The food was possibly the best carvery we have ever had with a choice of gammon, turkey and beef cooked to perfection. Vegetables consisted of roast or mash potatoes, carrots, parsnips, cauliflower cheese , Yorkshire and stuffing with a choice of either onion gravy or traditional. Sizes were small, normal and large. I opted for the large and it almost beat me! The mini grill would satisfy any hungry person. Place with a nice atmosphere and outstanding value for money and I would recommend to anyone.

Delicious carvery, beautiful meat and choice of veg. Only criticism it was a little cold when I got mine to the table. Perfect for my wife but I like my meal piping hot and today (unusually) it wasn't.I should have asked for my plate to be reheated but I was so hungry I didn't (so my fault)

We visited the Star a few of years ago under a different pub brand whilst we were on holiday in Cheddar, on our last visit under the old brand we didn't have a good experience so didn't return on our other Cheddar holidays (for the last 7 years or so). We decided to try a different eatery in Weston-Super-Mare however on our last visits to them was disappointing so we decided to give the Star Inn another go and boy we were not disappointed at all. We booked a table in advance and arrived at our time, we were a family of 5 (2 adults & 3 teens) we all had the adult menu, we had a large carvery, one mixed grill, a chicken tikka masala, a chicken mix up and a burger meal. I had the carvery and hats off to the chefs, I had all 3 meats and they melted in the mouth, the beg was tasty, everything was hot, I asked for plenty of gravy and I got it, my husband tried some of the meat and said he wished he had had the carvery instead of his usual ! We were all very happy with our meals, the service was good and staff were friendly.It was that good we returned on the Thursday and ended up with 3 large carverys, a curry meal and a chicken mix up. Again fab food and service, we will return again on our next holiday to Somerset.

Had a carvery which I would have scored 4/5 just because a bigger selection of veg would be nice, or at least a variety month to month. However I've scored the Star 5 as the manger and staff are excellent, they work hard to make sure you get a brilliant service, even when the pub gets busy, you feel important. Popped in for a carvery as a family, and returned another two times within a week. This place offers great value for money, the food is nice and the staff were extremely polite and professional. Highly recommended.

It’s been ages since I last visited one of my favourite local restaurant since lockdown. But I’m so pleased that, like always, the staff, the service and the food are top-notch!

I’ve had a carvery here previously that was superb. This time, there was no self-service (CoVID precautions), but the staff serving us took the extra time to let me still choose exactly what I wanted from a wide choice of vegetables.

Great to have the Star back after Lockdown. Really generous portions of food and whichever meat you choose it is tender. Tremendous value, friendly atmosphere and a great place to take all the family, whatever their ages.

Popped into the Star at lunchtime, fairly full car park but plenty of spaces. They were quite busy but received a warm welcome immediately from bar staff, directed to restaurant, offered several places to sit, again very attentive staff. Ordered our meals at the bar served by a very attentive helpful barman. When the food arrived at our table soon after, it proved to be excellent value, I would highly recommend the “ploughman’s lunch”. A very pleasant visit excellent staff, well worth another visit! Thank you very much.

Carvery lunch for ourselves and 3 grandchildren. When asked about the menu in relation to our grandson’s nut allergy two separate members of staff took this very seriously and took time to make sure our selection was safe and suitable. They were friendly and professional. We don’t know their names but a young man at front of house couldn’t have been more helpful and made sure our lunch experience was safe and efficient and the young lady that checked all the deserts to make sure it was safe did so cheerfully. The young lady serving the carvery couldn’t have been nicer. Thank youThe meal was good but it’s the overall experience that really matters. Thank you

I finished my large carvery so I was allowed pudding....I did not need pudding. Monster plateful and all elements too delicious to leave. Staff were brilliant and a nice place to stay for a beer after lunch too (if you can fit one in).

On arrival welcomed by a courteous member of staff who confirmed our booking and lead us to a table of our choice. Due to the choice of one of our party not being available. the person behind the bar came to our table explained the situation and assisted the person choosing an alternative. The food arrived at the table promptly and hot delivered again by polite members of staff. the type of service you would expect from top restaurants. The food was excellent for the price paid. This was our first visit since lockdown ended and will be returning following the service received

For some of us it was the first visit to The Star, but it won't be the last. Although it was quite busy the food orders were brought out reasonably quickly. For those opting fo a carvery it was not an issue.One of us (me) opted for the Chicken Jalcrazy. WOW that was hot and spicy and whilst well prepared, it took some eating, Next curry will be a more mild option.The pub was a lot bigger than it appears from the roadside with plenty of room and no feeling of being overcrowded.The staff were helpful if anything was needed.

Thought we would pop in this morning to try the breakfast, we were greeted by the lovely Olivia. We were shown to our table after following the necessary Covid precautions. Our orders were taken and our order arrived soon after. The breakfast was very good, it was served hot with quality ingredients and extremely good value for money. The Dinner on Christmas Day was brilliant! The food was plentiful and cooked well. The Staff were polite and attentive. We didn't feel at all rushed, as we have in other establishments on Christmas Day. Would thoroughly recommend the Star for a special occasion, or just for meal out.

Decided not to cook last Sunday 25/10 and booked a table at the star.Arrived at the restaurant and was greeted by a member of staff suitably protected with mask and gloves.My party of 6 were escorted by staff to our table through a busy restaurant.I was surprised how busy it was Within a few minutes our server arrived, took our drinks order and while we looked at the menu, deciding what to order.Our drinks arrived and our food order was taken.Within 10 minutes the food arrived piping hot and looking delicious The portion size was reasonably good and the 2 younger members of the party (13 year olds) said they were too full for desertThat’s a first, I thought.Staff were friendly and helpful I felt very comfortable and safe inside the restaurant given the number of people in premises As a blue light car holder, I was eligible for a discount of 20%A throughly enjoyable experience

We both had a Carvery. As usual was extremely nice. Considering the current climate was made to feel extremely welcome and had a lovely visit. Staff were very attentive and looked after us as much as they could. I've had quite a few meals and here and never had a bad one yet, would recommend it to all my good friends and family.

Not been here before, but meeting up with friends.We all had the midweek carvery, it was the best I've had in a long time. The meal was big for a standard. 4 meals 4 drinks came to just £40 So much cheaper than the last 2 places we have been. Staff were so friendly. We well be back very soon.

Visited this pub a couple of times in the last few months. Greene King are right across Covid safety, making there customers feel safe from entering the establishment with good sanitising stations, one way systems, visors and great social distancing. On top of this they are running a great pub at The Star. Good choice of Beer & Larger and the Carvery is incredible with a choice of three meats (you can have a bit of each if you prefer) . Will visit again!

Dined here to take advantage of the current discount scheme but in all honesty it’s pretty cheap anyway as it’s A Greene King pub. Usual selection of dishes and drinks ensuring plenty of choice for everyone. Expected hygiene protocols in place that is the norm everywhere. Only problem is that there is no phone signal and WiFi wasn’t working so you can’t use the app to order. I appreciate things aren’t straight forward with supply etc but no onion rings available when we were there. There was no mention of this by the host or when ordering the food. When we asked the guy who brought the meals he simply said they’d run out - no offer of an alternative. As pretty much all burgers come with them this was a disappointment. When I asked about some form of discount because of this (more to get them to appreciate that for 4 of the 6 meals, they weren’t as advertised or complete) I was told that it was already 50% off. When I pointed out that the government were paying the 50% discount and not them, they did take off a few £ off which was appreciated. Steak was really juicy and portions OK. Burger selection was good. Generally good and would happily go back

Visited the star pub afew times now, and always had such good food, also good service, went last night with family for a meal, was served by a young girl behind the bar called keelie, excellent service, very welcoming and friendly, listened well to suite our needs. Will definitely recommend visiting this pub

The inside changes where great. You wouldn’t really notice the difference. However the exit was very poorly designed. A big step with nothing to grab hold of so dangerous for the elderly on foot, no exit for disabled people in wheelchairs or scooters or even children in prams. Finding our way back to the car park was difficult, no real signage on where to go. Uneven ground making walking difficult.

The staff very friendly and efficient but we were disappointed on two points. Firstly there are signs everywhere about COVID and the one way system, but people were walking in all directions... not the pubs fault but staff should have policed this! Secondly we did not fancy the carvery mid week so went for menu options. The lasagne was obviously reheated in the microwave as it looked unappetising with very soggy pasta and the curry was extremely hot and just tasted of curry powder, not really any other flavours apparent. A shame really as the pub looks lovely and inviting from the road.

Great food, friendly staff, cannot recommend enough. Definitely worth a visit to anyone if you are in the area

Cannot fault it for the price. We were regulars before COVID and were cautious to return after but were pleasantly surprised. Staff lovely as always and some clear care has gone into making people feel comfortable with the one way system and order from the app.
