Country pub in the ancient village of Barrow Gurney near Bristol airport. This pub serves real ale and has a pleasant traditional pub feel. Enticing . Haven't had an opportunity to try their Sunday roast yet, but it looked appetizing. Pleasant beer garden at the back and a large open space oppose. This old Inn is worth supporting. Try it and you'll like it.

Well, where do I start, this spot is absolutely brilliant, Tommy the landlord couldn’t be a friendlier bloke you’d wish to meet, always makes you feel really welcome and a great laugh, I often have a joke with him and say it’s like sitting in your front room at home, cosy and the food is absolutely brilliant everytime, if your passing through or in the area make sure you visit Princes motto, you won’t regret it.

We came for dinner for the first time last night, lovely warm welcome from the landlord, very friendly service! We sat by the cozy fire, played cards, and enjoyed fresh wholesome food. Steak was huge! And juicy! Cheddar cheese burger was homemade, served with chips and coleslaw. Loved it! We will be coming back. Highly recommend The Prince's Motto!

Fantastic cosy country pub under recent new management. Very quaint and steeped in history this pub feels really authentic, located right in the heart of Barrow Guerney Village. The landlord and staff are friendly and welcoming, food is proper british pub grub. Chose the minute steak, rare which comes on a bed of sauteed mushrooms and onions, side of chips and peppercorn sauce for only 12.50 which is an absolute bargain! (Came back later in the week for the Fish & Chips with homemade tartare sauce as I couldnt decide between the 2). Some lovely deserts on the menu too. Overall was really impressed, theres 2 beers on tap, Doom Bar and Butcombe as well as 3 thatchers and the best pint of Guiness you'll get on this side of the water. Great atmosphere, friendly locals and a roaring fire, what more could you ask for? These fellas know how to run a pub and it really shows, id definitely recommend a visit.

The warmest of welcomes today, my first visit. Landlord so easy to talk to and find out more about this very very traditional english country pub. Food still being served at 15:00 hours Sunday. Menu was basic wholesome food, unfussy but sure to satisfy who like pub grub. Does a good trade from locals and passers-by. A few real ales, three thatchers, two lagers all on draught and guinness. Small, cosy, chatty. Glad we tried this one. The landlord is especially friendly. I sometimes find small pubs a little intimidating but we were offered a table from one of the locals and loved the local atmosphere. Meals and desserts generally range from £5 to £14.

We had another visit today (26/10/23). It’s good that the pub has reopened with a new very friendly landlord. The menu is quite small but the food and drinks were good. Well worth a visit Previous visit spring 2023 We visited on a Thursday lunch time to find new owners who had recently taken over the pub. Both were very friendly. It’s a small menu with a few specials but the food is good and most is either gluten free or low gluten. The lamb cutlets were delicious as were the home made puddings. It’s not far from Bristol, in a good place for interesting walks and has ample parking.

Great pub with a great atmosphere and great new Irish landlords! If you want a decent pint of Guinness, this is the place to have it - no other pub in the area will do a Guinness like the boys here at the Motto 😍 Traditional pub grub, affordable prices, and such a lovely, perfect little village to surround it. Children's park across the road, amazing beer garden out back for the sun, a friendly bunch to smile as you enter... What more could you want from a country pub just down the road from Bristol Airport?! I had the steak sandwich, £12.50 for a sliced steak ciabatta (with fried buttery garlic mushrooms and onions), cooked rare, served with skin on fries (really tasty) and a little side salad, with some absolutely BANGING homemade peppercorn sauce which I would pay to drink a vat of! Thumbs up. Will return.

Visited here after having meant to for many years. Pleasant atmosphere, very much came across as a 'local's pub. Architecture was very much in keeping with the pub's age so quirky, space off space, which was rather nice to experience. Food very good, well presented and good sized portions. The only suggestion I would offer is that the heating of the pub could be increased - I sat with my coat wrapped around me. Would visit again.

Went to the Princes Motto for a couple of drinks and a pub meal on Saturday night and unfortunately we were all very disappointed. It’s a shame when you try to help a new venture and an industry on the ropes but certain things are important. The atmosphere was poor , ok possibly as we were the only people in the main body of the pub The beer , I had Butcombe , was too cold The food was average at best , served on a piece of wood , something I dislike and the burgers were tiny However the most annoying was the attitude of one male staff member who on asking if there was any sanitiser replied to my girlfriend “ have you looked “ and when it was shown to be empty only begrudgingly filled it up . To be honest I should have had a word then and regret I didn’t .Simply we won’t go back

I visited with my wife and dog on Wednesday 12th August 2020. The pub has recently changed hands and has new owners. The first thing to say is that the beer garden has been massively improved from the last time I was there. Lot's of hard work has been put into making a large, comfortable and attractive beer garden. Secondly the beer, I had three pints of Butcombe, was excellent and at £3.50 a pint very good value. I am very much aware that the owners are new to their trade, teething problems occur and it was very busy with the "Eat out to help out" incentive for diners. One area where the staff could improve is to actually greet any customers when they arrive. I did a very good impression of the invisible man for the first 5 to 10 minutes I was there. I was patient and all I needed was some small acknowledgement that I was there and that someone would be there to serve me soon. That is the job of the staff in particular the landlord. It's easy to do and makes customers feel so much more welcome. We ordered food which was okay and good value for money but I would like to see more vegetarian options. It was so busy that the food took an hour to arrive, I had no problem with this as I know they are just starting up and there are teething problems. Also just one very hard working person in the kitchen at the moment. I really want this pub to succeed as I know how important it is to a small community and it has so much potential to be a really great place. So some small but significant actions would have made this experience so much better. I'll certainly return but would hope that it is a better experience next time. Lastly dogs are very welcome, several other diners had their dogs with them but they should make a water bowl more readily available.

A warning to those reading the reviews from prior to March 2020. Since then, the pub has changed ownership. Words cannot adequately describe how appalling every aspect of the new offering is. Surly welcome, cluttered interior full of boxes and crockery, peculiar beer garden which rather resembles an episode of Teletubbies and food that was in essence inedible. This is so, so disappointing in a pub that could be an absolute gem. There is no chance that this is a viable business, so I look forward to returning later in the year when ownership will likely have changed again.
