Lovely service food couldn't be better

Very nice place was warm and the girl serving was lovely she even gave treats to our dog

STAY WELL AWAY !! Had an awful experience whilst visiting with family, our first impression was awful but decided to go in anyway bins were overflowing and there was rubbish everywhere outside, as it was local to where we were staying and the children were hungry we had no other choice to go in.We were sat down for about 20 minutes until anyone came to take our order ,after asking the young girl who was sat on the bar TWICE but continued to sit on her phone doing nothing.We eventually ordered four portions of fish and chips but waited over half an hour for food to be brought to our table and the chips were dry and the fish was uncooked. We asked to speak to the so-called ‘chef’ and ask for a refund immediately the response we got was utterly rude and eventually we got our money back will not be returning place should be closed !

Fish & chips and scampi & chips Both meals were disgusting!! The chips were frozen and not cooked hard in the middle, the fish was tiny and so dry. Scampi was so over cooked they just tasted of oil, again frozen chips! First & last time = total waste of money!!

Very good food, friendly service and reasonable price, place worth time and money

Unfortunately Kevin has sold this chippy, what a terrible experience we had, the floor was filthy, tables not cleaned and to top it all we ordered cod and chips and received something else, we believe pollock, absolutely terrible. A young couple, nice enough, but obviously have no clue, the glass was dirty and so were the 3 more he exchanged it for, so ended up drinking out of a plastic cup. Young girls in and out of the loo, god knows what that was all about, they were stood outside drinking for a long time, obviously new the owners so must be a new hang out for them. I presume this will close soon, cannot survive on false advertising, non existent cleaning and poor food.

Worse fish and chips I have ever had.

Really disappointing. Chips looked like oven chips and the fish was over cooked in a tasteless batter. Pretty tiny portion of curry sauce too. Pricy for what was a very disappointing meal.

Worst fish & chips we’ve EVER had, the fish was burnt!!! Yes burnt!!! The chips, peas and gravy literally had a tiny spoon of peas and a dribble in f gravy that was no more than you’d squirt tomatoe ketchup, we were so disappointed, but by the time we drive to the beach to open them it was too late to go back, the 3 staff asked between them 5 times if it was actually chips peas and gravy I wanted !!!

Never again will I eat from there, its under new management and the food there is disgusting, expensive and it looks dirty, would never ever recommend

Great little bar, a good addition to Weston-super-Mare's venues. Clean, friendly and with super views, I hope this place thrives.

Went in midmorning for a cuppa. Lovely clean cafe, very friendly barman. Sitting in the window, we had a fantastic view of Weston. Lost one star on the rating from me because it would be better if there was decaf coffee on offer.

Really really nice chips one of the best if not the best I've had in weston lately.. steak and kidney pie was very good quality and my boy also liked his sausage.. very reasonable price will definitely be using them next time..

Lovely fish and chips, and now open as a cafe for breakfast.

We went to 'The Brig', which is the bar down the steps/behind the chip shop. We had planned to go to Claremont Vaults (next door to the chip shop) but that was closed so we sat at The Brig, overlooking the marine lake. It was a lovely view, and a relaxing spot for a quiet drink. There were 4 of us. We only had soft drinks (a pint of coke each, which was just under £10 altogether). Staff were pleasant. Some bits could have been cleaner. Other than that, no complaints and would gladly go again. We liked it better than the Vaults so that was a bonus!

Google says it's open which it should be given it's 5pm on a sunny Saturday. Drove down and they're shut... Nice one 👍

Why is this chip shop never open when it says it's going to be so many missed customers especially as it's been a v v difficult time for local businesses and when closed why is there no notification of closure on their web site or there ordering app

A real gem ,great value .BUT the real clincher is the superb quality of the food. The best chips I've EVER tasted. The Haddock and the Cod scrumptious. We will be going back again and again.

Didn’t realise places this bad still existed, wish I’d taken note of the latest 1 star review and avoided. I’m really not sure how this place has a rating of 4.5, the fish is bland, the batter even worse and the chips like eating cardboard. We ate in at the upstairs restaurant, the staff were friendly enough, but service was slow and the floor was sticky! We felt that it was so bad that complaining wasn’t worthwhile, a chippy best to be avoided.

Good team and within walking distance but truly not a good experience a couple of times. ☹️ Poor quality batter, chips are all the bits at the end of the fryer and not good value for money. Saturday night and 4 staff members stood with nothing to do, no food ready for orders/deliveries and not a customer in sight... 🙄 A sign saying 'When quiet we close early' isn't comforting either. We tried again in hope for a better experience as we want to 'support local' but the quality is truly missing, I apologise. Refunded - many thanks! 😊 Take care.

Take away is excellent however the restaurant is now open and this was a real treat. We had the table by the window, excellent sea view, excellent food and excellent service. We are looking forward to visiting again soon.

Might have been an off day considering my the amount of good reviews here, and I am by no means snobby as I will basically eat anything anyway. I visited today and ordered large cod and chips, all good and well. It was sitting down to eat it where things went downhill. The food was hot, however the batter on the fish was terrible. Unseasoned, tasteless, and incredibly greasy to the extent of the underside of the batter resembling what can only be described as an orange goo, which made me want to throw up. The same went for my mates who also ordered. The fish was not nice, obviously not fresh and incredibly cheap quality. The chips were nice, but it's hard to get chips wrong anyway. Again, might have been an off day but I won't be visiting there again

Excellent fish supper. Piping hot, lovely fresh fish with crispy batter. Loved the idea of the square box, pizza style.

The food is great but the online ordering was a waste of time. I thought I was going to avoid having to wait by ordering in advance. Instead they only started cooking when I arrived. So what is the point of ordering in advance?

Came here tonight for takeaway fish and chips.. No queue and freshly cooked to order..came in a box and bag so stayed hot..the fish was so fresh and flakey it was delicious.. Covid safe environment as well.. Definately go there again..

Just popped in for a winter warmer.

Went to Jolly Roger for a later than normal dinner. I had the obligatory fish 'n' chips. My partner has a veggie burger and our daughter, sausage and chips. The food was as expected; nice and filling. However, we were very impressed with the staff and how friendly everyone was. They made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely a place to revisit and recommend.

Lovely food, great views and marvellous service

We're new to the area and tried the Jolly Rodger for the first time for a takeaway fish and chips. Food was all cooked fresh and was delicious. Kitchen and waiting area were clean and well setup with COVID protections. We will definitely be back and feel lucky to have such a great little takeway so close by. The decor in the chippy is really nice and we look forward to trying out the Bilge one evening when we fancy eating out.

We had a table by the window with great views out across the beach. The fish was delicious and the batter light and crispy. Service was first class. Highly recommend. We will return.

Lovely fish & chip restaurant linked to the RNLI. Super view through big picture windows too. Book in advance to get a table by the window. Very reasonably priced for a sit down meal. Good for kids🥳

The best chip shop in Weston. Fish and chips are amazing. The best halloumi fries in the world. And try the veggie burger with added halloumi, it’s the best ever. All fresh, great service and great food

Food freshly cooked to order and well worth the wait. Fish and chips as you expect to taste just missing the newspapers it used to be wrapped in. Will be returning and many of my friends and family. Take away only I think.

We have had fish and chips from here before recently and they were fine (if a little greasy), however the f&c's purchased this evening by my husband were inedible. The fish can only be described as soggy and the chips had formed one homogenous, greasy mass. Apparently the restaurant part was quite busy and perhaps this impacted on the quality of the takeaway food. We need, and would support, a consistently good fish & chip takeaway in the Marine Lakr area.

Just had takeaway cod and chips I'm not kidding best piece of cod I've ever tasted lovely white cod batter done to perfection as was the chips bonus 4 minute walk from where I live

Large cod chips and mushy peas in a box and a bench seat with a sea view on rare sunny evening. Absolutely amazing chips were good but the cod was possibly the best I have ever had! and there are some great fish and chip shops in Whitby. must be the best in the south west.

Recently visited Phelpsys, the Jolly Roger.... both myself & hubbie thoroughly enjoyed our meals....hubbie ordered cod & chips & I had battered halloumi & chips....it was all freshly cooked to order, so it was piping-hot & delicious 😋....staff very polite & helpful....& the establishment looked really clean....we had ours to take-away.... but if you wish you can sit down inside their restaurant to eat..... Highly recommend, & we will definitely be visiting again very soon👍

Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back very soon!! My mum was visiting us in Weston and her dish of choice when we go out for a pub meal is often fish and chips. When she visited last weekend I thought I would make it easy on Friday night and just go to a fish and chip restaurant to try out the offering from the new kids on the block 'The Jolly Roger'. Well, we were not disappointed! My Mum can be a hard woman to please when it comes to meals out and she had nothing but praise for Kev and the team for their great food, lovely décor, friendly staff etc, etc. In fact she didn't stop talking about it all weekend. Thanks so much to the team at the Jolly Roger for a great evening.

I'd avoid on a Saturday, not meaning to be harsh to the staff but they were all so young and I would say only 1 was over the age of 18 they clearly hadn't had enough experience or training yet and everything was ridiculously over done (x2 L chips and a battered sausage.) would of gone back had I eaten in, but as I was take away didnt realise till I got home wasnt worth the hassle although I'm sure they probably would of redone it all or so I'd like to think they would of anyways as last time I went there in the weekday it was very nice

Great experience here, owner was lovely and helpful, explained everything cooked to order and definitely worth the wait, best fish and chips we have had in a very long time. Sat in restaurant, light, welcoming and beautifully decorated, we were touring in the area for a week and when we returned to the area a day later with our family for the fabulous carnival we took them and did it all again. Exceptional 👍👍👍

This is honestly the best fish and chip shop in weston, all food freshly cook and tastes amazing, very friendly staff, highly recommended

Came here at 19:33 this evening for a bag of chips to watch the fire works what a shame 15 mins wait for a bag of chips at one pound and 80 pence . Wont be comeing here again Think I will go to mcdonalds next time at least it will be hot and not reheated ones!!

Just had great takeaway from the Jolly Roger. Food was cooked to order fresh, staff very friendly and we love the twice cooked chips. The cafe looks lovely with great views and is licenced which is a bonus.

We have just been served a really poor fish & chips x 2. Already disappointed that there were no large fish available early on a Saturday evening, the chips would appear to have been reheated and are quite inedible. We have used this chip shop repeatedly since it opened and have recommended it to many. Such a shame when the standard deteriorates.

Absolutely awesome fish and chips. You can eat in or take away. Portions are generous and full of flavours. The best fish and chips anywhere and the best in Weston Super Mare by 10 country miles. The staff are helpful and friendly and their vinegar is so nice. Such good value for money, and you know that the customers genuinely come first. The owner is such a nice guy and a member of the RNLI so when he is not in the restaurant he could be saving lives. I just hope Phelpsys The Jolly Roger gets the support it deserves especially from locals.
