I love The Star. The cask ales are an ever- changing selection and are well-kept by someone who obviously knows how to run a cellar. Tom the barman knows my preference for ale now and if there are brews on that I'm unfamiliar with will recommend the one he thinks will best fit my tastes. He's rarely been wrong. You won't get football screens or loud music, except in a Monday night which is home to an acoustic trad/ folk music session. This used to be in the back room but has acquired so many attendees over the last year that it's now in one end of the main bar. The music is a great mix of both songs and tunes, with a real buzz most Mondays and is well worth a visit just to listen, or to join in if you play or sing. Otherwise it's just a great traditional pub serving excellent beer and somewhere to have good conversations with family or friends.

Glossop has at least a dizen or so pubs but The Star - very handily situated just 20 yards from the railway station - offers by far the best-kept and tasting beer in this friendly little town. If you are a cask ale lover, then look no further. The Star doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t. Don’t go there to watch sport on the telly, or to eat, or listen to loud music (they do, though, usually have popular, nostalgic tunes playing in the background that aren’t a conversation killer). What The Star does is focus full attention on delivering what should matter most to all pubs - quality beer, ciders and spirits. Landlord Paul clearly takes great pride in serving a quality pint and his well stocked bar never lacks variety. There are usually four cask beers on the pump every day, from golden ales to darker stout options, supplied by local breweries. Jaipur, Citra and White Rat are always very popular. And the Guinness here is also top notch. This is a real shining star among Glossop pubs.

We went around Glossop for a few drinks and all the pubs were friendly and accommodating. Bar 2 was by far the best as Kevin and Gaynor are lovely and warm cheery people. Our final stop before getting the train was The Star. Wow lovely beer and well kept but the girl behind the bar really didn't want to be there. When we arrived she was on her phone and there was no smile or greeting. She made no conversation, just served our drinks and then spent most of the time outside vapeing. Shame as the beer was good but the pub was lacking warmth and personality.

Just moved to Glossop and decided to try out the pubs, we decided to go into The Star after one of there regulars recommended, It was rather quite but we found most pubs was, was made to feel welcome by the staff, great selection of beer that my husband was happy for and some nice gins, They have a music quiz on Wednesdays which is different and heaps of fun and not serious, Anne is very entertaining and I have to mention Tom great service and very chatty! Just what we needed thanks star staff!!

Heard about the pub and thought I would try it. Good selection of beer. Cold, depressing pub with no customers or atmosphere. Couldn't wait to leave.

Just had three nights in this very friendly pub and enjoyed every one of them. They have a great range of beers, all beautifully kept and served by polite, enthusiastic staff. The beers are changed very regularly and the prices are very good. Wish we had pubs like this in Oxfordshire!

Called in for one drink which were good. Just a shame about the local guy who used the 'f' word like normal people say 'the' when he was clearly old enough to know better!

Really poor service. Stopped in for a pint on way home because next to train station. Pint was off (just needed pulling through a bit in my opinion) but was told that I was wrong and would not be offered an exchange. Barman said "I don't know, I don't drink lager but seems ok to me". I said that I couldn't drink it and he shrugged. I said fair enough i won't be drinking here again. Up until that point it had been fine. Nice looking place, staff friendly enough. In fact it's probably just bad luck that I got a bad pint but good luck anyone else who is unlucky enough to get a bad one cos from this experience it's not getting changed. You're told you're wrong and you should like it or lump it. Shame really.

I've been criticising this pub for the lack of a creamy head on the selection of real ales lately albeit it's one of my favourite pubs. I can now commend the new staff for the delightful pint I was given Friday 22nd March. It was beautiful in taste and the head lasted and clinged to the glass to the very end. Cheers👍👍👍

I have to be honest this is my type of pub. No glitz just a traditional real ale pub. The staff are friendly and polite. I have previously wrote a review about the quality of the ale and thought I'd give it another chance, but once again it was very disappointing. I specifically requested a decent head and again got soap suds which disappeared within 5 minutes. Every other pub in glossop can serve up a nice creamy head whether it's a light ale or a porter, so why can't The Star Inn????

With snake pass closed my wife and I called into the Star Inn to cool down and discuss how we might get home. What we found was a real English pub with an excellent selection of real ales and a real draught cider. The landlord was friendly and very helpful with his advice on which road to take. A veritable Oasis in a desert of chain and plastic pubs. We are already planning a return visit. Thank you for such a lovely welcome to Glossop.

One of the best pubs ever visited. It is not a restaurant and hopefully never will be, that would spoil it. This is a pub where you go to drink proper beer, not the chemical fizz that most other pubs have to offer. The emphasis is on real ales, ciders and lagers. The pumps offer you a constantly changing variety of well known ales and popular stalwarts. Strong lager and cider are available too as are a couple of bog standard lagers. The pub is well frequented by locals and visitors, a stride away from the rail and bus stations. it is a no frills pub, no juke box, no gaming machine, no wall to wall TV and no nonsense.

Went here for some post-walking pints. The atmosphere was lovely and quaint, they had a range of brilliantly kept real ales (receiving 100% cask marque ratings which they proudly had displayed) and it was just how a pub should be. Don't know how this fab little real ale pub is in your restaurant gude but it doe NO food other than bar snacks (crisps/nuts/sweets) They do fab real ales & guest beers with beer/cider festivals with friendly and efficient staff. All staff and locals will be perhaps amused at this little blip in categorisation but may disappoint any travellers looking for food- the Globe in Glossop is a similar enterprise with cheap, tasty and vegan food (I am not a vegetarian but like the food & beer there)

Not visited for a few months, but still as good as before. Great range of beers including some from the new Wilson Potter brewery, run by two women, their beers that I have tasted have all been light, but full of taste with a good hoppy finish. Really good traditional pub located next to the railway station. The range and quality of real ales on offer is outstanding. Regular breweries seem to include Pictish, Ossett and Abbeydale according to the bar staff, who incidentally, are very knowledgeable about the beer and will give free tasters before you buy. On my last couple of visits there was a range of beers from Roosters, classic Marstons Pedigree, Draught Bass and Fullers London Pride which is quite unusual to find in this area and was in top condition. Old Rosie cider is also available on draught along with bottled Organic and Aspells ciders. Beer Festivals are also held, I think the next one is in July.

Changing selection of real ales on offer, sometimes from local producers, usually 3-4 at any one time, along with the usual selection of lagers. Although not busy when I arrived most tables were reserved but staff managed to find me one . All staff very friendly and helpful, as a solo traveller much appreciated .
