Great vibes, cold beers, well worth a visit

Great first stop after arriving in London. Food was all fresh tasting and came out at a good pace, and staff was helpful. We arrived around 5 and it was not too busy to get a table for 3.

I went to this pub with a friend and had a disappointing and frankly shocking experience. I went in to order two beers and was asked for ID. I showed my valid Italian ID (I'm 25 years old and have lived in the UK since I was 18), but the staff member (female bartender with black hair) refused to even look at it and insisted on seeing my passport. I explained I didn’t have it with me but offered to show my driving licence instead. She rudely declined. My friend then tried to go in herself, and the response was even worse. She was told we wouldn’t be served unless we showed our passports or proof of settlement status, and that it had to be printed. This is completely unreasonable. We felt discriminated against based on our nationality or immigration status. It is not normal or safe to carry a passport or printed immigration documents just to have a drink in the city where we live. While I understand the need to check ID to confirm age, rejecting valid EU IDs and asking for immigration documents is excessive and concerning. This experience left us feeling unwelcome and unfairly treated, and I hope the management will reflect on this policy. I noticed this has been already brought up in other reviews: this lady seems to be clearly racist towards non British customers.

I went to the pub 3 days ago on VE Day. It was amazing experience. We had couple of pints and burgers for dinner. Definitely recommend!

Never Again ! I went for breakfast as the place looked great. Ordering was no problem. After 30 minutes there was still no food to be seen. There was obviously a problem in the kitchen as a table of 4 had been served 2 at a time. 2 were finished and the other 2 breakfasts arrived. My breakfast which had no mushrooms then went individually to a table of 4. They said it couldn't possibly be theirs as they ordered everything. The waitress said that is 100% was theirs (she clearly put my order to the wrong table). She had a clear attitude about her. I then just got up and left. What a disgrace. Nearly 40 minutes and still no food arrived. The breakfast is well priced at £10 with toast but the pint of fresh orange and lemonade was £8.35.. . . . I have just paid £18.35 for the worst service of my life and a pint of orange juice. Do not go here it is shocking.

Whenever I’m back in my old neighborhood for a visit, this is where the first and last place I go (we don’t get the Greene King Abbot cask ale stateside so I gotta get my fix). They’ll have sports up on the screens and good food. Highly recommend!

Popped into Stanhope Arms for lunch and a pints for Guinness - spot on. The burgers were with flavour and the fries were crispy. Friendly atmosphere and very good service. Top spot to chill and enjoy some good quality time with friends. We will definitely be back!

Great Atmosphere and Friendly Service at the Stanhope Arms Stopped in at the Stanhope Arms in South Kensington for a few afterwork drinks and we had a pleasant experience. The pub has a warm, classic feel with a welcoming atmosphere. I had the Level Head from Greene King – crisp and refreshing – while my friend enjoyed the Estrella Galicia. The bartender was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Service was quick, and the overall vibe was relaxed and enjoyable. Looking at other visitor tables, food was looking tasty, sadly we came for the drinks only 😆 and didn’t try any food. A great spot for a pint if you’re in the area – highly recommended!

I agree with the other review about this place about the price and quantity, but I would like to add that the food was just terrible. I also had the steak sandwich, it was dry and the sauce choice was off putting. We got the nachos and it was like they were at the end of their chip bag with all the crumbs. I didn't know classes where needed on how to put nachos together, but it's like they just threw chip crumbs on a plate and decided to put 5 random dolops on top. I'm honestly not sure if there was cheese. Long story short, food bad, so so bad.

My family went for lunch in the the Stanhope Arms, tables were not even clean, staff not one bit friendly, and were not told we had to go to the bar to order, I had the ale pie, just a lump of pastry and a teaspoon of potatoes, we also had two BLt sandwiches and not even toasted,

Very good food and drink; It was relatively loud, which is normal in a pub. Without a reservation it is difficult to get a place.

Says they're open til 11:30, closed at 11. I arrived at 11:02 and was refused service. Whatever your policy on last orders is, saying you are open until 11:30 and stopping service at 11 is ridiculous. We rushed here after a show at the royal Albert hall. Won't be doing that again.

This is really a tourist pub. I had a steak and ale pie and it was terrible. The mash potato's were like wallpaper paste and the gravy was some terrible packaged base. Good for beer and chips My husband ordered battered scampi with chips. A little better.

Opposite Gloucester road tube this Greene king pub has a decent selection of beers and not just from GK. Food and atmosphere are also really good. Quick service even when busy. Well worth popping in for one or two

Weatherspoons Quality but Mayfair Prices. Ordered the Steak Sandwich for Around £10 plus around £4 for sweet potato fries and a pint of Old Mount Draft. Around £21 all together, which is what you would expect for Mayfair, but the bread was not toasted and only 2 small slices of steak per sandwich. Fires were also small. Many tables were left uncleaned from previous guests and my friend ordered small nibbles with his latte (which was bad even with Bailies in it) which tasted stale. The Match was on (Liverpool vs Newcastle) but even then...bad lighting so some parts of the screen looked blurred

We were actually walking to another restaurant when we passed by and thought we'd pop in. I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. It was mid afternoon, so it was very quiet. The restaurant is beautiful with a historic and local feeling. Absolutely recommend The Stanhope Arms!

Went there by chance and it was a good one! The food and drinks were amazing and not very expensive given the fact that we were in Kensington. We had a katsu burger and a vegan chilly and few beers. Marcel was a star!

Ordered the steak sandwich, steak was ok, but 2 small bits of steak in a big sandwich. Was mostly bread, pretty disappointed. Chips also came out cold. Slow service - girl behind the bars friendly enough but the guy looked like her couldn’t be arsed. Is whole body language shower his lack interest and clearly had an attitude. Will not be coming back. Expensive too, didn’t expect it to be cheap because of the area but if you want to charge £7.60 a pint you should make the experience in your establishment worth the cost.

I went in for a quick drink after work and loved the wonderful atmosphere. The young lady behind the bar gave amazing service as I explained I was in a rush. I wasn’t hungry before I went in but the food smelled amazing and I will certainly be returning for the delicious looking fish and chips I saw another customer enjoying! See you at the weekend!

Came here with my family before visiting the Natural History Museum last week. First of all the service was fantastic and we were paid attention to from the moment we arrived. The bartender informed us that they also had a kids menu which was perfect for my little ones’ appetites. My husband and I enjoyed the vegan burger and the pulled mushroom chilli and both options were out of this world! The pub dog is really cute too. This is now our new spot every time we come to london. Thank you team!

Very poor service The waitress at the bar with dyed hair when we went to order had a tremendously rude attitude, it honestly gave the impression that because she wasn't British you were simply bothering her. Great place for a pint and a football match.

We had a good experience with a Greene King pub in Stratford-upon-Avon (Rose and Crown) so thought we’d try Stanhope Arms… Staff was attentive in getting the table for our reservation upon arrival, but ordering thru the app didn’t go so well. Order got slightly mixed up and our food was cold. Granted, they were busy, but it would’ve been nice if server checked on our table at least once without going to track him down.

The Beer is terrible. I had Two Pints in there and each of them were flat. Obviously some issue with the gas mixture. Staff don’t care otherwise they wouldn’t be serving it.

On a cold rainy day, stepped into this sweet pub and had their flatiron steak, and an amazing house cocktail made with Jameson and Fever Tree…. Yum!! If you’re in the area definitely stop by for a bite and I wish I had room to have their fish and chips too. Booked for five and had a very small table reserved (barely fitting two); we had to sort out that part ourselves. Very disappointed in the quality of the service: one of the young men at the counter was ignoring us for must of the time and was plainly rude when asked questions; a second one, although helpful, was not even aware of the fact that they have a menu for kids; luckily there was also a young woman that was very helpful. The food was good, not brilliant as I have read in other reviews. Prices are good. Because of the extremely poor welcoming of the first employee I was tempted to leave, I did not make it clear on the spot as I had guests visiting and I was hoping to give them a nice experience. Very likely won't visit again

Llegamos en una tarde muy ocupada , después de caminar desde la corte del conde con varias bolsas y nos complace asegurar una mesa , pedí un sándwich para mí con papas fritas extra y un vino para mi esposa . Debido a un malentendido. La comida fue servida rápidamente pero debido a un malentendido terminamos siendo servi r con dos bocadillos y dos caras de patatas fritas! Me impresionó mucho cómo el personal lo resolvió rápidamente y la diferencia se reembolsó. . ¡El sándwich estaba delicioso!

Another mediocre Greene King pub overcharging for a pint in Kensington. Paid almost double for what I pay in my local in Glasgow.

The place is a typical English tavern, the food is very good, we tried a special Sunday roast and the steak ale pie, a kind of meat pies, all very good. The service was good, we were served by two "innkeepers", one of them young, who was actually more interested in flirting than serving and he made a mistake with the order and we had to fix it with another innkeeper, this other excellent one, very kind and friendly.

Came for breakfast, absolutely great food. Really friendly staff.

My wife and I arrived at our Gloucester Road AirBnB after an 11 hour flight from Los Angeles and a 45 minute tube ride from Heathrow. Exhausted but starving, we ventured up the road and were overjoyed to find a proper traditional London pub not two minutes away. The Stanhope was the best thing that could have happened to us that damp and cold evening. It’s golden glow welcoming us in from the night. We were revived with ale and food and the happiness one only gets from returning home after many years away. A proper pint of Guinness and a steak pie and chips for me, pint of Stellar and fish n chips for the missus. And then back to the flat with full bellies for many sleeps. I look forward to my next meal at the Stanhope someday.

The Stanhope shows a closing time of midnight on a Tuesday night both on their website & Google. We entered at 11pm, ordered a drink, to be immediately met with the bell at 11:05pm. The staff then proceeded to bring all furniture inside & make the general atmosphere as uncomfortable as possible until the second bell was rung around 20 minutes later. At this stage we were met with a staff member telling us they would be closing soon…. Nowhere near midnight, nowhere near the advertised hours. If you want to close early then crack on, but don’t advertise you close at midnight on your website & google when that is simply not the case. I hate establishments that do this. Poor experience. We drank up quickly and left. Won’t be returning 👍🏻

Lovely pub opposite Gloucester Road tube station. I made reservations two weeks in advance for 7 people on a Wednesday, and it was very well attended. Without a reservation it would not be possible for the group. The food was very good and the selection of drinks was also large. I liked it a lot. There is even a very useful filter on the Internet for eating without gluten. After the meal, no one wanted to clear away the empty plates, even when asked, they only took a few plates with them and left everything else lying around for ages, otherwise everything was fine

Stopped by for a quick pint for the first time. Location wise, it's perfect - right by Gloucester road station in one of London's most sought after areas. What I found very odd though, was the fact that the atmosphere & clientele were so rough, it almost felt like a rough pub in Swindon or the Welsh valleys. Not sure if there's a council estate nearby (I highly doubt it), but it felt very off. Most people were 50+, so you'd expect they're locals, but things just didn't add up in my imagination. Guess it's OK for a quick pint, but that's about it.

Fantastic place like the vast majority of those in the city. Pleasant atmosphere and good treatment of the staff. We will return when we visit the city again.
