We were bought an afternoon tea voucher for Christmas. Sandwiches were a lovely selection, fresh and tasty. Cakes were beautiful. The scones were really really good. Beautiful clotted cream and the earl grey tea was lovely. Service was great and the room decorated beautifully. The only complaint was that it wasn’t quite warm enough in the room. I wouldn’t pay £55 a head for this champagne afternoon tea as I’ve had lovely ones at half the price but we really enjoyed receiving it as a gift. Nice experience for us.

Had a Champagne Afternoon Tea via a Virgin Experience gift. Very polite and friendly service. Beautiful restaurant. High quality sandwiches and a great selection of cakes. Would have liked two scones each (which were warm), although we had to take some cakes home as there was too much to eat it one sitting. Large choice of teas and a generous glass of champagne.

Yesterday we visited Peridot for afternoon tea as suprise treat for My best friends daughters Birthday who arrived from abroad and never experienced afternoon tea. Booked it trough Virgin Experience and was very easy to organize it all. Reception was very nice and pleasant, we came 5 minutes earlier and was sitting in lobby of hotel. Restaurant was very original, classy and atmosphere was pleasant with nice music in background it was exactly that I wanted, so we could enjoy our moments in nice comfortable and partly private table. Food was delicious and our waitress was very nice, welcoming, professional and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone

It was OK. Do the Virgin Experience Days deal which comes out to £25 per, otherwise I don't think it's worth it. The lighting in the room is a bit flourescent and uninviting, which is not preferable for an atmosphere-dependent service like afternoon tea. Sandwiches and cakes delicious, scones dry and left a lot to be desired. Nice ornate hotel lobby though there's no shortage of those in this area. Maybe would try somewhere else next time.

Visited here with a deal of afternoon tea and a glass of Prosecco on a weekday and the ambience was pleasant. Spacious restaurant with tables well spaced out. Service was friendly and attentive. We had a selection of sandwiches, hot scones with the cream and jam, macaroons and a sort of Battenberg cakes. We each had a big pot of our chosen tea and a refill was asked for.Apart from the prosecco which was not very chilled and appeared rather flat, we had a very relaxing time.

Finally we were able to enjoy the afternoon tea we received as a gift the Christmas before last. I have found that places I loved before COVID have unfortunately been adversely affected with patchy service from new untrained staff or a drop in standards in a misguided attempt to save money. My expectations were not therefore particularly high especially having read some recent reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Pamela provided excellent friendly service and made this a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. We received extra sandwiches upon request. My husband doesn’t drink tea and Pamela happily swapped his drink to Coke and both my tea and his soft drink were replenished. The scones were brought out separately after our sandwiches and served warm. They were the smaller scones perfect for afternoon tea when you have a plate of cakes to follow. Both sandwiches and scones were lovely and fresh. Our cakes were very tasty, particularly the passion fruit slice that was bursting with flavour and our selection included a very rich and satisfying chocolate mousse. This was not the afternoon tea experience that the top hotels supply with constant food and we didn’t leave with boxes of left over cakes but then Claridge’s champagne tea (king of afternoon teas) is £90 per head plus service not £45 (and since our gift voucher was extended from eighteen months ago it was probably cheaper than that). We were however very full when we left. The tea was served in a pleasant bright room and the chairs were very comfortable for a leisurely meal. Finally, I had the Indian breakfast tea and it was delicious. I drunk two pots. All in all we had a very pleasant afternoon and enjoyed our belated Christmas present. Thank you Pamela for looking after as so well.

Champagne afternoon tea for 2 cost £50 as it was a deal - it is usually £40 each. Service here is very good, and the place itself is beautiful. Crisp champagne was also fab. However the tea was unimaginative and a bit stale. The savoury bit was 4 very fresh and delicious finger sandwiches each - and that was it. The cakes were mini versions of lemon cake, brownie and so on, which were all a bit dry - our booking was 4pm and i think the cakes had been sitting for hours. The scones were disappointing as they had been zapped for too long in the microwave, making them tough. All in all this was underwhelming. I have also been to Map Maison for a tapas afternoon tea which blew this out of the water. I'd go there instead of the Bentley.

Peridot is the restaurant at the very grand Bentley's Hotel in Kensington. You don't encounter many hotels like this one nowadays, for it takes you back to an earlier era when traditional décor was at its height. The restaurant is as equally grand as the hotel itself - a green room with ornate chairs and fixtures, formal perhaps but also very comfortable. There is a very good set menu at £25 for two courses and £30 for three which may be ordered at lunch or early evening. We began with some tasty canapes of Beef ragu & saffron arancini, and Tomato bruschetta. Starters offered a Goat's cheese tortellini soup, Loch Fyne scallops or Super Food Salad. The scallops were deliciously served with celeriac, apple and hazelnuts and the Salad comprised quinoa, beetroot, feta cheese and broccoli etc. Both dishes were heartily enjoyed and made a good start to our lunch. For the main course my guest chose Stuffed chicken breast with tomatoes, potatoes, spinach and a good tomato jus. My Salmon fillet was just perfect, meaty and dense and full of flavour with leeks, new potatoes and spinach. The other option was Mushroom ravioli. Our desserts of Chocolate mousse with salted caramel ice cream, and the Apple tart with strawberries, ice cream and shortbread both hit the spot at the end of a very delectable lunch. The fine food, the gentle ambience and the willing service were all quite exceptional.

We were so disappointed by tea at the orangery I went looking for another near where we staying and discovered this place. I didn't read reviews ahead of time just gambled that a hotel like the Bentley would have good food and I was so delighted. The day and time we went the place was virtually empty so we were able to take tea on a comfortable couch table. The place was quiet and they had some jazz playing softly in background. The service was exquisite and the food very tasty. The sandwiches had the perfect bread to ingredient ratio so could taste everything and not be dry. The scones were served warm and the desserts had a lot of variety. I'm sure its tough to compete with places that market themselves as just for tea so maybe this place gets overlooked but I thought it was perfect

The place was quiet but there was a nice little atmosphere. We were greeted by Ahmed who took great care of us and really made the experience a pleasant one. I would say though one thing that made the evening feel a little less 5* was the menu. It was laminated and just felt a bit tacky. Should be on a good quality style paper. Apart from that the menu was nice, the food was lovely and the portion sizes were really good. Overall would come back but invest in a better looking menu.

We booked with our Groupon voucher which included canapés a glass of Prosecco each, starters mains and a dessert. We arrived at the time for which we booked @ 7:15 and was both seated soon after, we had our canepés served at 8pm, which was strange as these should be on arrival or very soon after. That said they were very nice. We both went for the Scallops for starters, the chicken for the main and the trio of Chocolate for dessert. We couldn't fault the food at all and the service from our waiter Andreas was good. The only negative would be that we were pretty much the only table in the restaurant so our evening was lacking a little surrounding ambience. Other than that we had great food and service. I would give this a strong 7 out of 10.

I had a Virgin Experience Voucher to have afternoon tea at the Peridot restaurant at the Bentley Hotel. When we arrived we were asked where would like to sit in the restaurant and we chose one of the sofas at the edge of the room - this was a good choice as it was very comfortable and we had a good view of the restaurant (good for people watching!). The restaurant looks quite dated but I think it is more to match the decor of the hotel - it looked OK just not to my taste. We started off with a large glass of champagne which was very nice, and was then offered a menu with different types of teas we could chose from. They then brought out the food - some dainty sandwiches, a lovely selection of mini cakes and finally the scones. All the food was very nice and we were pleasantly full at the end! Service was a little slow at the start (I think they had forgotten about us once we had been seated) but this was soon rectified and from then on service was good.

VERY Disappointing! We were brought the Bentley Hotel Afternoon Tea experience for Christmas!Either our family don't like us very much or they have been completely miss-sold!This was a Virgin package! And to honest any hotel or venue that needs to promote themselves through such companies really isn't going to be anything to look forward to!So today 08/07/2017 just confirmed this!3 of the sandwiches were served on stale bread with completely unimaginative sandwich fillings (Tuna, egg mayo & coronation).Cakes and scones!! Hmmm Mr Kipling could give you a run for your money! We would have been better off buying a couple of sandwiches and cakes from the local Tesco which would have been much better quality.Front of house staff were good, but when we arrived we were told to go through and someone would see us! After waiting 5 minutes we went back to reception to ask if it was actually open as we had booked for 2pm, but the menu said Afternoon tea was served from 3pm! The hotel clearly needs maintenance with flaking ceilings and water stained wallpaper. If your 70+ then this hotel might just fit the bill as it's VERY old school luxury! If you can call it luxury these days.Sorry for the grilling, but after taking the day off work for this and receiving what we did I'm not best pleased as you can imagine.

The table setting very good and the champagne and food were all really excellent. It was all spoiled by no other guests. But my daughters birthday was recognised with a cake and candle. Nice touches thus was a Saturday night and there was a private function so it can't be the usual or the place wouldn't be viable. But excellent food and service but failed on ambience.

I love the 10 Downing Street Building so was intrigued by the look of this building and couldnt wait to see the restaurant. Was this a modern or traditional restaurant?I entered to see...It was as I hoped traditional. The furniture and decor made me feel as if I had entered "Downtown Abbey" the tv programme minus the butlers/chambermaids and also clothing.I went with my sister to our now monthly get together. I had a groupon voucher @ £59 for a 3 course meal, glass of champagne and tea or coffee (a bargain I thought but the proof is in the pudding). As soon as you arrive you are greeted by a staff member and escorted to the restaurant (a nice touch). We arrived 10 mins early and the maitre seated us immediately. The room is definately exquisite, at sometime in the past this would have been a beautiful room 5* but is now very dated. The floor is glorious, with a lovely shiny mosaic pattern in the middle, but unfortunately this has not been maintained or repaired, the seats could also do with being re-upholstered. (shabby/chic came to mind).I'm not going to say I didnt like the room as I like the old as well as the new but I would have liked it more if it was maintained.I was given a glass of champagne as soon as I arrived and the menu (This was delish).Whilst looking at the menu I was offered some bread, only wholemeal which I dont mind but it would be better warm. The butter was quite hard and would have benefited from being left at room temperature to soften as it was so hard it kept ripping the bread.I had the fishcakes for starter, this was really tasty especially the lime mayonnaise that was really good but not enough to use for both fishcakes unfortunately. The roast chicken for main, mine was cooked to perfection but my sister said her peas were a tad hard. The meal came with mash so this was a surprise but a good one as usually in these establishments you have to purchase a side which was unusual. I really enjoyed this too.I had the cheesecake for desert. This also was lovely (not too sweet but the coulis was abit tart but I didnt mind this).I have to say on reflection I really enjoyed my meal. My sister who had the same as me agreed. We finished off our meal with tea and got a pot each which was good as i like more than one cup.We arrived at 5.50pm and left at 8pm but there were only 4 other tables being used so about 12 people in total in the restaurant which seemed quite small but everyone seemed relaxed and happy. The staff were polite and attentive the whole time we were there.I would say the wine list has 5* prices(see attached).I would rate this restaurant a 9/10 suitable for couples/friends/meetings. Not so much for families with small children.I take off the 1% due to the hotels outdated furniture and appearance but if this was updated it might be in the running for a 10/10.

After a pleasant first visit sometime last year I have decided to invite a very good friend of mine to what I was expecting to be an enjoyable lunch experience. Unfortunately I left feeling disappointed, embarrassed, and treated as if we were second class citizens instead of guests and paying customers. I made the booking for 3pm lunch on Saturday 4th July 2015 via bookatable.com and I have received two confirmations for that time. When we arrived we advised a member of staff that we had a reservation for 3pm lunch. We were asked for a voucher which we had not been provided with when we booked through bookatable.com and we explained that to your member of staff. After approximately 10 minutes waiting at the table we were given the afternoon tea menu. We explained that we were not here for the afternoon tea, we were here for lunch and we had a confirmed reservation. To this we were asked to wait while the waitress went to speak to the chef saying that the chef should be able to accommodate us under this circumstances. After 25 minutes of waiting without so much as a drink, or being reassured that someone will be with us shortly, our patient was exhausted. I had no alternative but to go to the front desk and ask what was going on. Although I showed the proof of confirmation I was told it was wrong. I can understand this, because sometimes things go wrong and there was clearly a problem with their booking system. However, no attempt was made to apologise for what had happened, that we had a wasted journey, that we had not been correctly greeted, that we have been left unattended for almost half an hour proving that their staff did not care about us and were unwilling to take any responsibility for the problem with their booking system. I think most of their clientele would agree that this is no way to treat paying customers.

The only nice thing about this place is the furniture. The interior is claustrophobic, the staff don't understand what you're saying half the time, the food is bland and cold and to top it all off one of the guests in our party experienced food poisoning from the beef main dish (on the set menu). The restaurant would have to pay us to dine there next time.....

Had afternoon tea at the Bentley earlier thi week . Lovely hotel and very friendly staff but their afternoon tea experienced is poor. . Scones were fine , sandwiches lacked finesse and taste, very bland and the cakes a real disappointment. Tiny , stodgy, dry, heavy and all the same . Poor selection. A fruit tartlet , a choix pastry would have been so much nicer .The bentley is a5* hotel but their tea did reflect their rating at all.So overall disappointing .

Me and my husband were staying in London for the evening, and were looking for somewhere nice to go for dinner. I thought to look on groupon as had had some wonderful experiences in the past via this web site. We came across dinner at the Bentley and it looked lovely. The hotel is beautiful and we thought we were going to have a lovely evening, but the food was terrible on any standard. The starters were good, but both the mains terrible. Overcooked and dry pork, mash potato that was extremely dry and lumpy with no butter milk or seasoning what so ever. Waterlogged vegetables again unseasoned and bland. My husband ate most of his due to being hungry but I had left most of mine. The waitress did ask if everything was ok, but only on taking away the plates. I did not know where to start, nor did I want to disrupt the only 2 other tables in the resturant as it was so dead I would have felt I was causing a scene. We moved onto deserts where I had ordered creme brûlée and my husband the tart tatin. My creme Brulee was completely split only to resemble scrambled egg on a plate and my husband dessert luke warm at most. I was offered to choose something else by the waitress but I just couldn't be bothered by that point. The waitress assured me this wasn't due to us having a groupon voucher and this is always the standard of food. I'm afraid the Bentley has a far way to go to even try and compeat with the other 5 star hotel / restaurants in London. The hotel itself is beautiful but your staff is letting it down completely as they seemed as if they did not want to be there. I can now understand why it was so quiet....such a shame for such a pretty building.

I booked this for the special valentines meal and looking at some of the other reviews I wonder if they went to the same place. As soon as went entered the lovely old hotel we were met by friendly staff who took our coats and showed us down to the impressive dinning room, chandeliers and formal elegance. Rahul Rastoni was our excellent server and made sure our food came exactly when we wanted it, not hurried or rushed. The fixed price menu was very good value, champagne, four courses and a bottle of wine for the two of us for just over one hundred. Then the best bit, the food. We are well travelled and their sea bass was some of the best we have had, it went very well with the delicate scallops and pea purée. The food is good honest cooking with big portions. Not trying to be too clever. So I suppose it's not a cheap venue, and we took a risk going on Feb 14, but we thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We went here recently for Afternoon Tea, and have to say we were a little disappointed. Whilst the hotel lobby and the restaurant were all rather opulent, the quality of the food did not match the surroundings. We found the tables way too big, with the person opposite so far away it felt like being at an interview across a desk. Also there was piped music rather than a musician which did nothing for the atmosphere. We chose the champagne option which was nicely chilled. The tea selection was not as vast other Hotel Teas we have experienced and it was a bit of a let-down that it was tea bags and not loose leaf and that it was sachet sugar not cubes or crystals. When the tea was refreshed, it tasted very much like that the original teabag had been re-used – at the price they charge, they should not be cutting corners like this. With regards to the food, the sandwiches were really good, although there was no offer for them to be replenished like in other places we have visited. The scones were slightly on the small side and the tiny pots of jam and clotted cream were not enough to serve two people. The miniature pastries, whilst looking good, ultimately all tasted the same, there was little variety.Overall compared to the grand hotels of London or Aqua Shard, this place falls well short, although it is not reflected in the prices

Went on a Groupon deal and was pleasantly surpirsed. The restaurant is luxuriously decorated with chandeliers and stylish mosaic tile flooring. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food portions were good, and they had enough choices for my partner who is gluten free. They even brought some gluten free bread. I thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly and the chocolate fondant dessert. However my other half found the duck with passionfruit a little too sweet (though it suited my sweet tooth just fine). Would happily go back.

My wife & I were given a gift voucher for lunch at the Bentley Hotel from our son.He told us he took a gamble at booking this restaurant, as he knows my wife & I do enjoy eating in London restaurants & hotels.I have to say initially, the location would not be the first choice we would choose to dine. However, we were very pleased with the venue. The hotel is tucked away behind Gloucester road station, a large imposing building with beautiful chandeliers adorning the entrance lobby. As we arrived early for our lunch, we decided to have a drink in the lounge area. Our drinks arrived a few minutes after ordering, I noticed immediately the waiter did not have any place mats for the drinks, a bit petty but for this standard of hotel, it's all in the detail!!After drinks we entered the restaurant, seemed a little quiet with only two further tables occupied. We were given our menus & glass of champagne included with the meal.I have to say that both my wife & I were more than happy with our lunch, the food was very well presented & very well prepared. The service was very nice & pleasant.By the end of our meal the restaurant filled out a little more which gave the place a bit more atmosphere.Overall, we were very happy with our dining experience & would certainly return.

We visited Peridot with friends for Sunday Lunch. we arrived at the beautiful but deserted Bentley Hotel at 13.30 and shown to our table. only one other table was occupied. A CD player was playing gentle harp music from its speakers - the only issue was that every 20 mins or so the CD repeated so we heard the same music 5 times during our visit!2 of our party ordered the pan fried sea bass served with chick peas and we ordered a bottle of South African Chenin Blanc-Viognier to accompany our meal. The waiter arrived with the wine but we pointed out this was not the wine on the menu. He seemed confused because the label had the words 'Chenin Blanc'. We pointed out that this did not contain the Viognier grape and for £30 we would expect to served the wine we ordered. It appeared the waiter did not have any idea about wines or grape varieties - we chose an alternative wine which was fine. The mains arrived and both sea bass dishes were dried out and luke warm - I guess they'd been sitting under heat lamps for a good 10 minutes - we complained about this but as the service was so desperately slow we couldn't face waiting another 40 minutes for replacement food.As a gesture, they discounted the final bill. Conclusion: no wonder the restaurant was almost empty because it was simply dreadful!Should have gone to Harvester :)

Let me preface this with we were on a deal £60:00 for three couses with champagne. So far so good. I BELIVE these deals provide an opportunity to for a buissness to introduce its services to a wider clientel in the hope that this will garner further full price bookings. As was the case when my sister and I had a fabulous meal at the 5 star Royal Garden Hotel Kensington same price four courses plus cocktail. The service was first class as was the food picked from the a Al a carte menu . We have returned and will keep on returning this place is a class act. What a different story in the Peridot. On presentation of our groupon instead of offering to take our coats ( it was a chilly night) the host went under the desk and pulled out two tatty sheets of A4 did not wait till we had been shown our table but handed them to us with the words this is the voucher menu. We duly sat down and stowed our coats next to us. Out came the sparkling wine. Have you picked yet said a disinterested voice. Admittedly there was not a lot to spend time over. However one thing immediately cought my eye . Supplements. So the management not content with a special menu for vouchers they then we're adding charges for vegetables and such delicacies as duck? Go figure. Suffice to say it was a very uninspiring menu which would not of been out of place in a Bernie Inn in execution. Tasteless and dry my sister declared as a grey piece of pork sitting on a lump of mash arrived. My main was no better. The bread was reheated and standard. We can say though that we were served on a consistent basis by three gentleman all appearing to wish they were some where else as was I by this point. Pudding a dismal grainy creme caramel and fruit salad should of been renamed fruit sad. I am left confused by the whole event. If you do not wish to serve customers using the voucher system why bother with it at all.

The service at the Peridot Bentley for our afternoon tea experience was impeccable from start to finish and the staff very accommodating. The food was good, particularly the fresh warm scones. The only peculiar thing was that it was all served at the same time - the sandwiches, scones and cakes all came out together. But you can request the sandwiches first and scones / cakes with the tea, which is what we did. Not the most amazing tea in the world (tea bags used instead of loose leaf tea) but it tasted relatively good and the overall experience was very pleasant. I'd highly recommend the Bentley for a casual afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea should be a glamorous affair and the food mouthwatering, but our's was ordinary: tea bags (not loose leaf tea), sugar sachets (neither sugar lumps nor sugar granules), basic utilitarian white crockery, inappropriate cutlery, insufficient preserve, scones just okay, no dainty finger sandwiches, more rustic with rather strong flavours, and so on!The restaurant was almost empty with very little natural light and no atmosphere - not an experience we wish to repeat.

We went to the Peridot on the three course + champagne deal for £25. As others have noted, the restaurant was empty. However, rather than be disconcerted we enjoyed the pleasant surrounds, music, attentive staff and our own company. We had been ushered in from the foyer so did not have to wonder where we should go. We enjoyed the food. For a start, hot rolls and replenishment of the butter is an unusual feature, even in many good restaurants and we appreciated it in this one. Although Master Chef Australia experts would probably have criticised the salmon for being overcooked I prefer this to the almost raw salmon I've been served at times elsewhere. The skin was beautifully crisp and the light sauce kept it moist. The pastry on the leek and mushroom tart starter was thin and short - it would definitely passed the MCA test! The tomato and mozzarella starter was fresh and plentiful and the pork dish was good. The desserts, panna cotta and a chocolate mousse, were delightful. Coffee was good enough, but not special. The service was good and, although we waited for each course, the drinks were brought promptly and the wait was appropriate to the event - it is a lovely ambience and we wanted to enjoy it. The deal was certainly value for money. I would probably try the a la carte menu at some time as our experience warrants another visit.

There was a strange smell when we entered the hotel - lots of air freshener had been used. There were no signs for the restaurant so we had to ask for guidance at the reception desk. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was small (approx. 30 covers) and the furnishings very pretty, but it was completely empty. We dined at 6:30pm and were on our own until around 7:30pm when a table of 4 joined us. However there was nice classical music playing in the background and the waitress was very polite and friendly so we had a nice time. The food was average. My favourite dish being my starter of fish cakes with wasabi sauce. The location was a little remote for us having come from the West End, but the hotel is easy enough to get to via the tube.

A friend and I ate here on a deal - 3 courses and a glass of champagne - excellent value, the surroundings are lovely and the food was very good. However, there are a couple of things that dropped the rating down (I'd give 3.5 stars if allowed). The restaurant was almost empty, which was disconcerting, however the service was really slow and our starters and mains were only lukewarm when they eventually arrived. The 'exotic' fruit salad was Granny Smiths, oranges, melon, strawberries and grapes (and my friend found a blueberry). My mum was making fruit salads like that in the 1970s, I really don't think it can be classed as exotic and frankly I was rather disappointed! But, if the same deal was available, I'd go again.

For my partner's 60th birthday, we had a walk around Kensington visiting Harvey Nichols, Harrods and then a champagne tea at The Peridot in The Bentley Hotel. The hotel is very impressive and we were shown to an exquisite room (called The Peridot) for our afternoon champagne tea. The tea started with a glass of champagne each followed by lovely sandwiches, an assortment of scrumptious cakes and scones with jam & clotted cream. I prefer coffee rather than tea that was not a problem and my partner was supplied with two types of tea as she couldn't decide - a lovely start to our afternoon tea. It was strange that we were the only people enjoying their hospitality, but it did not matter in the least. The service was truly excellent and the food was fabulous, the only reason I did not give five points was my first pot of coffee was tepid (however it was quickly replaced with both hot coffee and hot milk) and there was not a great wealth of jam & cream with the scones. A truly nice afternoon and not too expensive to be a lovely treat when you are shopping in Kensington - highly recommended.
