This place has really thought about what people want from a pub restaurant and delivers it in spades. Tip-top perfect evening, a feeling of being home from home and somewhere special at the same time.

Outstanding. Some proper cookery on show and a perfect pub. The ambience, the staff, the food, exceptional. Don’t go. Leave it for the rest of us to go again!!

We called in here after walking to Towan beach from Portscatho and back. A very friendly welcome. We just had drinks in the courtyard which was thoughtfully laid out. We look forward to returning to eat here sometime.

We booked for Sunday roast!! Very disappointed. The meat (lamb) served as a lamb steak very thick but extremely fatty. Not a good cut of lamb. Would have maybe enjoyed it if it had been carved nicely as any joint is normally enjoyed this way. Vegetables were ok roast potatoes were ok but the taste of coals stayed with us for a good few hours after. Not a great after taste to have. All in all disappointed with the whole thing. Seating is very tight too. I realise this is a very old cosy pub but having less people in such a confined space would be more comfortable. The lamb as mentioned to the waiter but was quickly dismissed. Being people that eat out often and have enjoyed many roasts in the county of Cornwall this was extremely over priced too.

Fabulous food! Discovered The Standard Inn last year and ate several times on our 2 trips. Booked ahead this year and the food is still wonderful. Couldn't fault and Lucy - our server - was great. Looking forward to our second visit of the week!

We’ve been twice now and both times it’s been exceptional. It’s impossible to find fault with anything but the service in particular deserves highlighting. Friendly, professional and no fuss. We sat inside last time in the bar as you managed to squeeze us in on a cold dark March night and had the best meal I can remember for a long time. This time we were in the garden for the Sunday BBQ menu. Again the atmosphere, food and service were faultless. If I could change anything I wouldn’t. We’re publicans ourselves and have visited a lot of them, I can confidently say this is the best pub we’ve been to in the UK. We stay in St Mawes and will be booking at least once each time we are here. I just wish we were more local!

This was our best meal among many excellent meals in Cornwall. It was recommended to us by the Driftwood Inn where we were staying (about a 6 minute drive, 2 miles down the road). The indoor area looked cozy and was cool but we chose to sit outside in the expansive patio where the outdoor kitchen was putting out amazing smells. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing. We both enjoyed fish dishes accompanied by crispy potatoes and fresh salad and garden ripe tomatoes. Excellent!

Lovely staff, great atmosphere, a bit pricey. Serving staff forgot part of my main course, but so did I, so maybe my fault. Not very keen on the dogs in the restaurant. Disappointed that they charge extra for vegetables on most dishes - having worked in the hospitality industry for many years it is a pet hate of mine. Loved the samphire on my mackerel though.

We ate dinner here at 6.30pm this evening … first time here … very much hope it’s not the last. Really lovely old inn with a bit of a contemporary twist. Great ambience, lovely service and super delicious food. The staff made every effort to accommodate a gluten free diet … very much appreciated. We would not have discovered this place without the recommendation of a local so thank you that man. Can’t wait to return.

Faultless food and service. The cauliflower cheese gets an 11/10. We had a little bit of all the meats on offer as we couldn’t decide which meat to choose. Absolutely delicious. Desserts also top class. We will be back.

Lovely Saturday lunchtime visit with friends. Cozy atmosphere. Nice choice of ales and drinks. Friendly staff. Small but appealing choice of dishes on menu. Vegan option available. I had battered lemon sole and chips and it was lovely. The only criticism was the cost of the mocktails - £8 a go, which is rather steep.

We had an amazing night! The service was friendly and welcoming -the restaurant was very busy even on a Thursday night but we were well looked after by the staff. It is very small inside with low lighting but it created a cosy ambience. The food was amazing -we tried a variety of bar snacks as starters which were very tasty. Mains were exceptional and the side dishes were delicious and more than enough to share. We had fish of the day but the table next to us had a sharing platter of lamb which looked amazing!Would highly recommend -just book in advance so you are not disappointed.

Enjoyed a morning of walking on the Roseland peninsula and came across the Standard Inn by chance and as it was lunchtime decided to pop in. Nice welcome by the barman and immediately liked the decor and feel of the pub. Ordered a pint of Verdant local beer and 2 dishes. Both were delicious and presented perfectly.

Food and service were both very good. Unfortunately shortly after we had ordered our meal another couple came and joined our table with a large smelly dog. We asked to move and were accommodated in the other bar only for 3 more dogs to arrive on the next table shortly after our food had arrived. With so many dog owners about I can understand why pubs would allow them but eating whilst smelling dog is not an experience I find acceptable and will not return.

Outstanding from the start. We were a party of 4 and a baby for dinner and from the off the staff were so helpful. It's not easy when you have a young baby but everything was done to help from a decent high chair to soft bread and butter . The food was delicious from the suggested kale appetiser to the more than generous sharing steaks (cooked to perfection) Everything was 5*. The wine choice was also extensive and very reasonable. We didn't get to puddings as the baby dictated an early exit but we will be back as soon as possible , I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Many thanks for a memorable meal.

We’ve been hugely lucky to have been based down near Portscatho from May 2023, and all the way through the summer working at a restaurant down in St Mawes (FOH and chef). We discovered this gem pre-season and it became our go-to place, far favoured over going into Falmouth or Truro, be it a pint and lunch in their garden next to their outdoor kitchen or inside the cosy pub for dinner towards the end of the year. We’ve been together, just the two of us, with friends as a 4 and a bigger party of 6 and every time it’s been amazing. Service is of that you’d expect in a Michelin restaurant- so attentive and the food never disappoints - we have something different every time (compliments to the every-changing menu, also) and it always hits. It’s similar prices to their sister business The Hidden Hut, but definitely feel like you get more bang for your buck here, atmosphere and all. Thanks for being our favourite pub this year, guys!!

We were lucky enough to eat here two nights on the bounce, first as a couple and the second night with 2 more couples!!! Wow!! We are all foodies and everyone was completely blown away with the quality and taste of the food. The first night I opted for the Vegetarian Squash main with Whipped ricotta and crispy sage -OMG it was delicious!! So good that I almost had it again the second night!! My Husband had the chicken with tarragon sauce which was also delicious, lovely potatoes and beautiful veg!! The second night we had steak but others had the Butterflied Gurnard with Chimichurri, they were gobsmacked at how lovely it was!! And then there is the desserts!! Wow, the baked cheesecake was awesome, the tart tatin was delicious but the chocolate brownie stole the show!!! And I haven’t even mentioned the chilli and anchovy pillow bread!!! There was nothing on the menu that I didn’t want!!!! You have to go here!! The staff are amazing too!!

We were on a short break to Cornwall and decided to visit one Monday evening, (please remember to book a table !). The restaurant was full, all evening, with a steady flow of customers. The atmosphere was great. The staff were fantastic - knowledgeable, helpful and relaxed. The food was wonderful - we tried the gurnard and the brill - both superb, the herbs and spicing used were exceptional, enhancing the taste of the fish and veg. I couldn't resist the chocolate brownie desert - also fantastic, with deep rich flavours. I'm struggling to think of a tastier meal, anywhere ! Well done, the team, and thank you.

Lovely traditional setting, great outdoor space for sitting in the sun, and lovely indoor areas. The day boat special was perfectly cooked, light, and really tasty, and the steak sandwich with that gravy was divine! Deserts were unbelievable as well. Their pilsner is perfection too. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Ideal all round.

Thanks so much. We will be definitely be back next year

Would happily say this is the best place in the rose-land peninsula. The service was knowledgable and accessible. Then the food matched the service by being local and fresh. Would recommend to any one wanting anything from casual to explicit.

We visited the Standard Inn for a Sunday BBQ, desserts and then again for a couple of drinks whilst staying in Portscatho, and it has now become one of our most favourite places! A proper local pub, with THE BEST food, drink, interiors, atmosphere and people! We LOVE it, and cannot wait to visit again. Whether it's a summer pint and Sunday BBQ in the garden, or a cosy roast after a wet beach walk, tucked inside with the locals, wherever you are in the world, make the trip to Portscatho and visit the Standard Inn! A pub done properly!

Recommended for lunch by friends. The staff were really friendly and the food was excellent. The menu is slightly limited and while there is no ‘kids menu’ they were really helpful in providing options. Would recommend a visit on a sunny day to take advantage of the garden area. Easy parking too.

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.

What a gem! We had no idea where to go for lunch but chose the shed; a great choice! The steak was so good and the sole cooked to perfection. Great wine, appetisers and dessert to boot. Fantastic value and the service was great Thank you so much.
