Good food family with veg options. My lamb jalfrazi was ordinary but others were impressed with the peshwari naan and chicken korma. Excellent service. Service charge was 12.5%

Great service (friendly, helpful, polite and prompt), both when ordering and on collection, and our meal was ready on time, 30 minutes from placing our order by phone. Delicious food, fresh, great quality ingredients and everything was perfect. Love The Standard.

Only got to have a drink and poppadoms. I got there late to our party of 6. Immediately told we were being too loud. I spoke to the owner separately and was told in not so many words- we don't want people like you here. Granted its a small place but we were not being overly loud. Not any louder than anybody else. Owner suggested we were "talking aggresively". We spoke about football, because the table next to us told us they owned shares in Swansea City FC. Would never visit again, went to Jamals a few doors along and no issues at all. Plus lovely food. ( it was actually less noisy in Jamals and we were not told we were being loud). When I informed the owner that we would just leave, I've never seen a man say ok that's fine so quickly. I am not sure he even put our order through. Other waiting staff were fine with us. Still cost us £80 for drinks and poppadoms. Shocking.

The service was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely. However, the chicken tandoori was a bit tough instead of the desired moist and juicy texture inside, and it was missing the smoky flavor.

Delicious food and very helpful staff. We tried to get a table the night before but couldn’t. Next day we just turned up to try our luck but from outside we could see, no table was available. Luckily a member of staff was just walking in at the same time who told us to come back in around 20 minutes. I am glad we did and food,service and atmosphere was just perfect. Definitely visiting again❤️❤️

Very small place but very good food! Overall good as food flavours v good, and will go again. Just a shame they also subscribe to the the ploy of expensive poppadoms and even charge extra for the chutneys..

It was my husband's and my first time in Oxford, England and we wanted Indian cuisine for supper. This restaurant was phenomenal. The service, food and affordability were outstanding. Our server's name was Munayeem and he was very kind and efficient. All the entrees he suggested were delicious. I highly recommend this quaint Indian restaurant, "The Standard".

Enjoyed my first visit to The Standard this evening meeting friends I hadn't seen for a few years. The service was warm and friendly and my meal the perfect. I had the Lamb Saag which is one of my favourites. The Standard's is particularly good. Thank you team and I look forward to visiting again.

Our evening was ruined by a very loud group of very drunk people on an adjacent table who shouted down the rest of the restaurant throughout the evening. We could not hear a word of our own conversation and our young daughter was nearly in tears. I asked the waiters to intervene - nether they nor the manager did, other than continuing to serve the group wine & beer. The food here may be good but it was irrelevant. I will never go again and advise others to be very careful. It’s a tiny room. My evening was ruined.

We had a day out in Oxford visiting the brilliant Ashmolean Museum and we wanted to find a good Indian restaurant, so we asked a local and they recommended The Standard. We weren't disappointed, this is a great restaurant with wonderful food and very friendly staff.

Food was really tasty! We really loved the varied curry that the restaurant served. Tikka chicken Briyani was one of our most favorite dish. The rice was very fragrant and flavoured with the spice, making it very flavourful. The curry that accompanied it complements the food perfectly. We also ordered the Madras King Prawn Curry with a Garlic and Coriander Naan. It is decently spicy, and the curry was even tastier than the curry for Briyani. We really loved the food. Very high quality! We were quite disappointed at how slow the service was even though there were only 2 customers in the restaurant that day. Front of house was busy attending to reservations and calls, and took very long to take our orders. The other customer had to wait quite a while for the FOH to be free to have his main course served. Other staff could have helped with the workload. Nevertheless, he was very apologetic and friendly throughout.

Without doubt the best indian restaurant in oxford. Food is superb, the staff are efficient and extremely helpful. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

We would highly recommend the Korai Paneer Tikka and the Mango Lassi is amazing! Some of the best Indian food in the UK with authentic spices and flavors. Have eaten in and got delivery. Great food but repeated problems with Uber Eats for delivery. 1.5h from order to delivery … Best to eat in than get Uber Eats. Pls switch back to Deliveroo!

I’ve been to the Standard several times and the food and service are always excellent. One of my favourite restaurants in Oxford, it’s consistently great and I highly recommend. Do make sure to book in advance because it’s very popular. Prices are also reasonable and in line with other Indian restaurants in the area.

A trip to The Standard restaurant in Jehrico is always a treat. The food is unfailingly great and I actually get genuinely excited about eating the King Prawn Puri! This time we tried the Tamarind and Black Pepper Chicken which is just so flavoursome and delicious - just the subtlest taste of fennel seed and heat from the pepper - a new favourite to anticipate! Fantastic good experience.

I’ve had the best Chicken Tikka Masala here, the service is quick. Papadoms and the chutneys were so tasty. The Standard is the place to go if you crave for Indian food.

Delicious food. Best Indian food I've tasted in Oxford. Can actually tell the difference between all the dishes. Service is excellent too. However, it is very noisy in the restaurant as they don't have any soft furnishings to cushion the noise.

In a city of many Indian restaurants the standard is a reassuringly excellent choice. Always busy, always friendly, food and service are outstanding and it’s our ‘go to’ when friends are visiting and want good quality Indian food. I haven’t had a poor dish there yet, and neither have any of our friends. Particular favourites are the prawn dishes with their twisted prawns from the tandoor and the chicken with tamarind and black pepper, unusual and interesting. Do remember to book, it’s small and busy and you don’t want to be disappointed.

Food great as ever at this small and intimate Indian restaurant. Busy Saturday night turning tables meant that our bill was presented as soon as the main course was cleared away without being requested or checking if we wanted anything else. This brought our evening with friends to an abrupt end.

Very small place so I'm glad I made reservations. The food was outstanding! My wife and I shared the Tandoori mixed grill and some garlic Naan. The samosas starters were delicious also. The wine that the manager suggested was perfect.

They cater well to different tastes and preferences. I've enjoyed every meal I've had over the years so can recommend for dine-in and takeaways. Never had a bad experience, even when it's full (which definitely can't be said for every restaurant!) Good-sized portions for the money too.

We have been ordering from The Standard for a long time and already know how great the food is but I wanted to post a review to say thank you for our lunch which was delivered on Sunday. It was for a large group to celebrate a birthday so it was important to get everything right and we were not let down. The food arrived on time, in separate bags with the persons name on it, the food was hot and fresh tasting and everything was outstanding, with complimentary poppadoms and pickles. The age range at the birthday was between 20 and 88 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. I just want to say thank you to The Standard for making our birthday celebrations perfect and the weather was great too!

Calm, clean, pretty quick, fresh food.. great service, faultless and friendly. In my opinion having tried every restaurant along Walton Street this is by far the best for food, service and consistency. I really rate this place. 10 tables inside approx and 4 outside. It's a fair price and relaxed setting.

Very enjoyable. Me and a friend turned up on a saturday night just gone at 10pm. Very welcoming and attentive. We both enjoyed the food and requested off the menu dishes which was not a problem. The food is plentiful and full of flavour. Chicken tikka madras was my main and beautiful. Thank you all.

So much has changed for us since we fist popped in to the Standard for a date night eight years ago. We now consider The Standard to be our favourite restaurant in Oxford. The owners have passed on their charm and warmth, creating a menu of exceptional food that excites the senses and an atmosphere to truly relax in. The Standard manages to meet (and often exceed) our level of excited anticipation every time we visit. We highly recommend this restaurant to our family and friends as a must on visiting Oxford.

I ordered through Deliveroo this time. The food was good but the portions were tiny, especially considering the high prices. I’ve eaten in and ordered takeaway from The Standard before (since 2015) and it wasn’t this expensive and the portions were bigger. For £60 + it wasn’t even enough food for two adults and a small child, and left us hungry.

Food excellent. Tandoori mixed grill was cooked to perfection, served with a nice salad and lovely raitha. It was so good that I had to write a review!

Small restaurant with a few roadside tables.Friendly, efficient staff. Good onion bhaji's, four per serve. Chicken Biryiani was good. Tasty chicken pieces and enough for two. Served with a side of vegetable curry. Medium heat, but can be varied as requested. Similar prices to other restaurants in the area.

Experience from start to finish was excellent. They took our coats, restaurant was full, but service and food came out in good time. Authentic and delicious Bangladesh Indian food. Best of all was the service. Dildar and Kawsar were knowledgeable, attentive and funny. Made us feel at home. Very full and happy when we left. Highly recommend!

This small, unassuming restaurant in Jericho packs a real punch with it's outstanding food and service. The quality and freshness of ingredients is obvious, and the chefs putting it all together are clearly very experienced and talented. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service really efficient and friendly. Book ahead as this place is small and popular. We've been coming here off and on since student days (which is a LONG time) and it has impressed on every single occasion. You're in for a real treat.

Slightly emotional trip down memory lane, as having a Saturday night curry with family, 40 years after being at student eating at The Standard as our "local" college "curry house". It's still great, with classic "indian meals" plus specials and plenty of vegetarian options. The beers are interesting. Service friendly. This is not a glamorous restaurant by any means but doesn't need to me. You'll need to book up at busy times. Enjoy!

Small, friendly restaurant with great service and food.

A reliably superb curry house that has survived the pandemic unscathed. It's rather small, so best to book in advance if you want to eat at a particular time. Service is attentive and quick, the selection of beers much more diverse and local than you'd expect, and the food superb every time at an average price for the area. I make a point of coming here at least once a year and have never regretted it!

An absolute delight of a small, bustling welcoming restaurant with great, well cooked food and welcoming staff. This is a place that I’ve seen for many years walking by in Jerico but this was the first with two friends. It’s informal, no frills so beloved of modern places, and all the better for it. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the service impeccable. The menu is relatively small but the food is fantastic. We enjoyed and flavoursome dishes tender lamb, chicken and king prawn dishes with lovely naan breads and rice. We started with crispy papadums and delicious bhajis. A good, reasonably drinks list, including non alcoholic beer options. I had a mango lassi, which was delicious and will be my drink of choice when I go back. This is a gem of a restaurant, I only wish that I found it years ago. Book to avoid disappointment as it’s small. We loved it, and so will you. Thank you for a lovely evening to all at the Standard.

Very affordable, delicious, authentic indian food in the heart of Oxford! Service was 10/10. We had a little one who doesn’t eat spicy food and the staff members were very kind and understanding by offering to make plain chicken tandoori starter size, needless to say, my daughter loved it and even wanted more!! We were also about to order more curry, but the waiter recommended that it will be too much, which he was absolutely right, he recommended the perfect combination of food, starters and dessert. The bill surprised us as it didn’t include tips (which we added on top) and was very reasonable pricing. The waiter was very good with small talks, kind and friendly! We really enjoyed the food, our time there! I had the best garlic naan in my life!! It was freshly baked and super delicious! With curry it was a top notch!

Utter shambles of a place!! Booked a table for 7 on a Thursday night. The booking call was difficult as their lack of understanding me was obvious. I don’t have a broad accent I’m a Londoner. We arrived at planned 7.15pm and the staff were immediately confused. They told me I booked Friday! Which I did not!! They were unapologetic and just looked at us?? As it was our party decided the place was a scruffy old Indian restaurant and we went over the road to a Thai restaurant, the food in there was amazing? Note to restaurant—- you need to have a clear understanding of someone’s booking to avoid situations like this. I would like to say there reason of communication breakdown but I cannot in this so called modern world as I don’t want to be accused or misunderstood.. but I’m sure you get what I’m trying to say. We won’t be back anytime soon

Going to the UK, besides Fish & Chips, you must eat Indian Food. It can be north or south Indian cuisines, generally (in my personal opinion) it cannot go wrong. The Standard is certainly within expectation. I savour every moment of it. I let the pictures do the communication. Would I revisit The Standard? Definitely! But, one word of advice, do make reservation days in advance. If not, unless you start your dinner at 5.30pm, you will not be able to get a space.

Very tasty food and good service

Great food and really welcoming. Four of us Friday night, but change in plan added a fifth. Very accommodating about it. I had lamb zalfresi, spicy not too hot but full of flavour. Peshawari naan, superb. Others equally happy. A couple of industrial sized king fisher lagers, popadoms and chutney tray rounded out at 30 a head. I think they have slightly reduced the portion size which suited me, I felt full not over stuffed. Other dishes I liked madras, biriyani, tandoori. The naans are excellent. The guy who runs is so helpful and always pleased to see you. The best place I know for a curry.

food is really good and prices are fair and staff are polite and really helpful. unfortunately we didnt have very pleasant dinner and time there because of other people dinning there, as the restaurant is small, we could hear another people but some customers didnt have manners and were really loud so we didnt really have a good time
