The food was ok. Flavours were understated

Delicious and authentic Tibetan dumplings and dishes. The tea is also an amazing recipe and homemade. Definitely one of the hidden gems of Oxford.

This is the second time I have visited this place amazing service and great ambience and the chicken biryani is a MUST try item!!!! The best and most authentic biryani in Oxford!

Very Happy to recommend Taste Tibet! I visited for the first time last Friday and loved the warm welcoming atmosphere, the delicious momos and tasty veggie options. Also love following them on Facebook where they post engaging tales of life in Tibet and the day to day joys and challenges of running a restaurant in Oxford.

Great atmosphere where you share tables but it's all buffet style, feels really like a community hub. Served quickly and managed to get a seat even on a Saturday night, they don't take bookings FYI. Friendly staff too. The rice was a bit cold but overall everything had tasted great.

The most delicious Tibetan street food with friendly staff and community atmosphere. We love to eat in or hurry home cuddling our warm bundle of takeaway food. Every time we go to eat we also pick up some for our freezer. There’s nothing like Yeshi’s Dahl and Momos

Plenty of vegan options. Had the "feast for one", with two curries, one momo and rice. Quite pricy, but you do get full. Taste was good, but not a taste explosion. I would probably go for only the momos next time. The single one I got was the best. Crowded here at 6pm on a Saturday. A bit chatty/noisy.

We have been eating here as often as we can for years because their food is so incredible! We will continue to be regular customers. The momos are our particular favourite and Taste Tibet offers meat and vegan ones. The flavours are great and the staff are fabulous. Loved it!

We first tried Yeshi and Julie’s food at the Hay Festival and promised to visit their restaurant on our next visit to Oxford. It’s taken a year but we just had a fantastic meal. If it’s your first time let the friendly staff pick for you, they’re very knowledgeable and we were greeted with a smile as soon as we entered the door. It’s a very casual atmosphere which was great for us, we needed to eat quickly and that’s what’s great about this place. The food is ready to go. Full of flavour and we left absolutely full to the brim. Will definitely come again next time we’re in town!

Consistently gorgeous food. It’s the first dining out experience we had after our first son was born 4 years ago at a pop up at Silvie’s, and it never disappoints. We mainly get takeaway these days and love the freezer option- it is as good as the food in the restaurant and super convenient. The food is never greasy and feels healthy and home cooked. Highly recommended. The Beef mains and smacked cucumber are my absolute favourites.

Lovely, welcoming little place with a relaxed vibe, with amazing curries and great takeaway options too! My favourite is the spinach and chickpea curry (which I have been getting since they were a stall at Gloucester green market!)

Taste Tibet is just a wonderful, warm no-frills but beautiful little restaurant. It offers an authentic Tibetan menu, with a selection of dishes and options, including vegetarian and vegan. The chocolate tsampa truffles are a great desert. Don't forget to add Yeshi's chili (not to the truffles!) - I love it. There are bottled and canned drinks, plus free tap water. And frozen foods if you want to stock up for home. Or the option to take away your hot dinner (or lunch) - though it's nice to sit down on the benches inside or grab a table outside and enjoy the community atmosphere.

Great food. Everything tastes homemade, just better! Very friendly vibes. The frozen meals are a great idea - so handy to have around, and they taste so healthy!

A gem of a place in Oxford, dishing up honestly scrumptious and sincere food. Staying true to its roots serving up street food in a communal atmosphere. Options for veg and non veg. With Dahl to die for….. and tasty momos. This is soul food with real heart. (Toddler and Dahl from few years back having TT food!)

This is an absolutely tasty total treasure of a place. The homely feel and entirely delicious food leave a warm feeling every time. Staff are lovely, the whole experience is delightful. So lucky to have this so local. Can't recommend more highly!

Food is a lot, tastes good but not extraordinary. The atmosphere and the serving of the dishes is more like in a take-away.

I got the meat feast for one with the sesame chicken, broccoli, dahl, and beef momos. Wish I got a veggie momo instead cause I tried my boyfriend’s and was very yum. Also want to try the famous chicken I think it was called. Felt cozy and homey (spelling?)

Overall the experience was not for me. The style of the restaurant was fast dining, sharing tables, and basically not really a sit down restaurant, and more like a canteen. The food was quite watery (the chicken curry) and lacked depth of flavour. It was certainly a fast food experience but if the food was top tier then the atmosphere and restaurant style wouldn't have mattered at all.

Piccolo locale che offre ottimi piatti, ho apprezzato i sapori decisi, la scelta di ingredienti freschi e le varie proposte vegetariane. La maggior parte dei piatti sono anche nutrizionalmente bilanciati e il personale è molto gentile. Consiglio la "feast for one" un piatto unico con 2 opzioni a scelta, il dahl, il riso e un momo (raviolo al vapore).

Lovely wholesome food promptly served

Nice authentic food which doesn’t make you feel sluggish after. Lovely decor and good staff. It is also a good idea that they have frozen meals for sale. Suitable for us vegetarians. Top tip: try to arrive for early dinner because 5 minutes after we sat at a table, a massive queue formed going outside the door! Clearly popular.

Had the feast for one (dal + chicken curry + sesame chicken + one momo = £16) and added extra greens and one momo (£2 each). Also had one of the chocolate truffles. Everything was absolutely fantastic and super tasty, and the portions were great. Picture doesn’t do it justice - you have to go for yourself!

Lovely, casual place with really nice, homemade-style food. The vegan momos and stir-fried broccoli with garlic were especially nice. Great to have a lot of vegan options on the menu. Looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes! Edit: have now been 3 times! My only piece of feedback is the prices seem a little steep. 4 piece momos is £8, so £2 per momo?

I visited here for a Friday lunch and enjoyed a chicken curry, daal, and momos (all fantastic). They were so very delicious that I felt compelled to educate myself on the struggle for Tibetan independence and autonomy. Since 1951 Tibet has been ruled by China and given how brilliant their curry is, this is an absolute travesty. Knowing they are powered by such phenomenal daal, I have great faith in the continued Tibetan resistance against the longstanding occupation they have suffered. Taste Tibet is a top class independent restaurant and Tibet is a top class country that itself deserves to be independent. Amen x

Food is good rather than amazing, more canteen than restaurant quality, especially considering the price point which doesn't make it somewhere most people can visit too often.

Loved our dinner here - momos and all the curry dishes were fantastic. We also bought the cookery book to get some of the dishes at home.

Momos and dal a perfect combination of fragrances and textures. Seating outside on one of the best day so for, just a pity about the LTNs spoiling the route down, would venture again if it was so difficult to get too.

Gd food excellent service and reasonable prices

I'm honestly stunned by how good the food at Taste Tibet is. I went with two friends and we had a lovely time chatting and eating, and I don't remember a single item that wasn't fabulous across the whole table. It was a serene, low pressure environment and felt very warm and homely. Something like a picnic inside a family member's home. Ordering was easy, and the man at the counter was helpful. The menu was easy to understand and had a variety of options. I'd strongly recommend the dumplings, the cabbage and the truffles, but I'd honestly be surprised if there is anything on the menu which isn't fabulous.

The best Tibetan cuisine since visiting Tibet! Yeshi cooks up the most amazing food, I pretty much always go for beef momo’s but everything else is also excellent. Don’t ever stop making this! Also a huge thank you for bringing beautiful Tibetan cuisine to the U.K. and to Oxford, I love it!

Lovely restaurant, feels extremely homely. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced (we had the Tibetan famous chicken and a dhal), though the momos were a touch chewy, but with tasty fillings.

Fabulous, what an amazing place and a hidden gem. Such a warm lively atmosphere with friendly staff. Was great having staff explain the menu to us and give recommendations. It’s nice to be able to see the food when choosing. Very good portions and delicious food. Can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend

Tried 'Taste Tibet' whilst on a date and really enjoyed it. Atmosphere was pleasant, staff were attentive, food was delivered quickly and tasted great. Really have no complaints, if you like East Asian food and live in Oxford, this place is a no brainer.

Slightly disappointed with our takeaway. Ordered two vegan feasts which consisted of only one takeaway container each. One was missing the momo. Rice at the bottom had gone soggy from all the other dishes being on top. Tasted ok but hard to distinguish between different dishes as they had all merged into one. Expected larger portion for a 'feast' and not all squished into one container.

Absolute gem. Earned its awards. And still a fair price. When I'm in the area I'll be back. Decor spartan but tasteful. Staff friendly but not obtrusive. Loved the food. Frozen meals also available.

Wonderful small restaurant in Cowley just outside Oxford city centre. We had lunch there abiut a week aho at shared tables, delicious Tibetan dumplings with curry, various Vegan options including out of this world cabbage. We stumbled on this place by chance but turns out they have written a book on Tibetan food. Their web page is informative and has interesting musings about food and culture. Wonderful!

Tasty food at very reasonable prices. Small and canteen style approach but don't let that put you off! Great for eating in or take out. Even sell containers of frozen dishes.

This place is owned and run by my friend from school who wrote the Oxford Chinese Dictionary. It is fantastic. Really good and quite cheap for what you get. Better than anywhere when I was at Oxford.

Amazing food, lovely owners, totally made my work Christmas party. My office hired Taste Tibet to cater for our office party (vegan curry, dal, rice, flatbreads and momos for 50 people). Everyone in the office absolutely loved the food, and went back for 3rds and 4ths! Julie and Yeshi were incredibly helpful with arranging the event, and I would happily eat lunch there whenever I can. I cannot recommend it enough!

Beyond delicious - Tofu pie is one of the greatest things ever

Nunca había probado la comida Tibetana y me ha encantado. Currys ,momos,etc...En definitiva, comida buenísima y personal muy atento . 100% recomendable.

My partner and I have been eating at Taste Tibet since it was a popup food stall, so it's great to see it now as a full blown restaurant and it was as tasty as always (especially our favourite vegan momos). It is also great to see what the restaurant does like local food donations and reducing emissions and waste. Thank you Yeshi and Julie!

Went there for lunch today and tried the chicken curry, dal & rice. Dal was tasty and rice was cooked well. Momos were also good, with the skin having a good texture.

Taste of Tibet rolled up at Cambridge Folk Festival this year for the first time & provided one of the best food options I’ve experienced at such a venue (& I’ve been attending well over 20 years!!) The limited curries (understandably) offered were delicious as was the daal & of course not forgetting the dumplings. Thank you ToT for coming to the 2022 festival please can you make it every year from now on. The long queues & many happy faces told there own story.

The food was delicious, and the waiter - a very nice guy from Colombia - gave us an excelent service. Highly recommended; we'll definitely come back.

Best dal and momos I've ever eaten!

Daal is amazing as are the dumpligsm=, all the food really is delicous. If I lived in Oxford I would be here every day, what a joy to find food like this.

Great atmosphere and great food - one of Oxford's hidden gems

The food is so simple and good, I'm really glad that I've tried it! I had the Dal, so good, and the vegan dumplings, amaziiing!! And taking away we didn't even had to wait 5 minutes!

What a lovely find. Beautifully cooked food. Hip and trendy for a very good reason. Help to provide food for the vunrable in the community during the week. Even had my photo taken with Julie and Yeshi.

Good things - limited menu but good and tasty at what they do. Momo’s are the best dish they do. Bad things - expensive food for the portions given. Feast for 1 could do with 2 momo’s and a flatbread as it’s priced £13-14. Hopefully they will include Thupka some day as that’s one Tibetan dish which happens to very tasty and famous all over India. Overall good place to have good food but there’s space for improvement.

We really enjoyed their Dal, chicken curry and momos. Their food is delicious and has a way of just warming you up and making you feel great and healthy after.

Oh, how much I love thir dumplings and curry! Just have to keep coming back and it's wonderful I can take them home in a freezer packs and enjoy whenever. Definitely a must food to try when in Oxford

Love this place! Food is amazing - not a huge selection but I think that's a good thing; they do a small selection and they do it very well. Love the freezer section too - allows you to take home their meals and heat up when it suits you.

Absolutely stunning food! If you're visiting Oxford, this is well worth the short trip over. Brilliant service, great atmosphere. And the takeaway/frozen boxes are divine if you just can't get enough! Definitely going to visit every time I'm Oxford way. I dream of those mo-mos.

Really mediocre unfortunately. Didn't live up to the awards that they received. The momos had raw tasting dough, and dry meat.

Take away was champion. Their famous chicken curry has such a spicy more-ish sauce I wanted a 2nd! The momos were yum too

A friend and I visited for dinner at about 6.30pm. We both enjoyed ‘a feast for one’ which included two mains, rice, Dahl and a momo. Our favourites where the sesame chicken and the momos. Our mains were perfectly finished of with the cocoa and barley balls and a chai tea, the tea being the best we’d ever tasted. We spent over two hours having a lovely catch-up in comfortable surroundings. We enjoyed the food so much we bought some of the frozen dishes to takeaway.

Fantastic food - so great to have the chance to experience new and different flavours. Beef momos were delicious, dough was yummy and beef was tasty, enhanced by the dipping sauce. Lentils and chicken curry were also terrific, and the flat bread was fresh and warm. Topped off with cold Lucky Buddha beers, what more could you ask for?

Went with a friend last night after wanting to try it for quite some time and hearing great things. The food was delicious, staff friendly and the restaurant is clean and casual. Had the feast for one and it was really tasty especially the Dal and momos, will be going back very soon.

This was my first visit to Taste Tibet after a long time of wanting to try it, having read positive reviews and following the newsletter regularly. It is great to have somewhere local to me specialising in a less well known cuisine like Tibetan food. I had the chicken curry with dahl and rice, and the mixed momos from the lunch menu. They were all very tasty, particularly the chicken and dahl which were well seasoned and very enjoyable but not too hot! Speaking of heat, in terms of temperature, I would have preferred it to have arrived a lot hotter...however I have experienced this issue with other food places that keep the food warm in dishes behind the counter. The momos were nice, but to be fair, not better than those I've tried in local Nepalese restaurants previously, in my opinion. The accompanying chutney was good, and do opt for the soy dipping sauce if offered as it adds pleasant flavour. Price wise it's reasonable, although as is often the case, the drinks are expensive. I thought the freezer with meals from the menu to buy and take home for your freezer was a good idea. I always judge a place by the toilets too. On the downside there is only one I think, but it was clean, there was hand soap and a choice (!) of hand dryer or paper towels. My only concern, especially in these pandemic times, was that the size of the restaurant is small, so in order to pack as many places as possible the tables are of the long, communal kind. This may be a cultural choice too, I don't know, but I had not expected this seating arrangement. As a rather shy type, I always find this kind of seating in restaurants quite uncomfortable. On the one hand I feel like I don't want to ignore strangers already occupying table space, on the other I worry I might be intruding on someone else's meal if I start chatting away...But the idea of sitting at communal tables and trying to ignore fellow diners feels really uncomfortable to me, and that is the reason I have chosen three stars (although I would call TT good, rather than average) instead of four! Also, for anyone with mobility or back problems the benches are super uncomfortable... The staff member who served me was very pleasant and approachable which was great. It wasn't packed while I was there so the atmosphere was quite relaxed. If they can expand the menu a little, especially to add hot drinks and a few desserts (I don't know anything about Tibet's sweet culinary traditions but I'd love to!) it would make the meal experience more complete. I would definitely go again and try another dish, but maybe not to eat in until things are a little less problematic on the Covid front as there isn't enough room if you are someone needing to socially distance. But if I saw it was quiet, or on a pleasant day when I could sit outside, I will happily visit for the tasty food.

Had this years ago at Gloucester Green market and have been wanting to go ever since the restaurant opened. Was absolutely delicious and just as I remembered. I am vegan and they had lovely vegan options
