Amazing party venue! Me and my other half had our joint birthday party at the ugly duckling at the Stamford Pub. The venue is a great size with plenty of space for people to sit or stand, we had our own private bar and the food was absolutely amazing. Our guests raved it was the best party food they’d ever had. The staff were also lovely and helpful too. It was relatively nice weather that day so they opened up the side door and some of our guests sat outside. Everyone had a great time and we would highly recommend.

We arrived, no one to seat us 2 people walked passed made eye contact and said nothing: Went to the bar to ask if we can be seated to our table and was met with “I don’t know where you’re sitting” followed by an awkward laugh. Sat us down no menu’s etc. Blonde lady came over (manage or a senior member of staff) was accommodating and moved us to the restaurant. When she took our order, we asked if the meat comes pink on the roast beef, she said “yes, however you like it cooked we can do it” Partner asked if there’s a veggie option as the menu at the table does not reflect the one on the website. She said yes the kitchen can do you a veggie tofu roast. We asked does it come with all the trimmings like the other roasts. “Yes, it comes with all the trimmings mate” Food arrived. Unseasoned bland Beef was well done over cooked. No roast potatoes Veggie option was a vegan one so had one parsnip and a bit of cabbage no seasoning, no flavour. Not once were we told it’s a vegan option. Blonde lady came back with potatoes no apology, potatoes which had looked like they have been cooked by the heat of a lamp soaked in oil. I mentioned the issue with the beef. Was told; “I found out last week, that’s how’s it’s cooked as it’s cooked the day before it so comes like that” so I mentioned if you said that from the start I would have ordered something else, but you said I could have it how you like. “Sorry about that mate” that was it. No discount off the meal nothing. Not very apologetic. Avoid!!

Dropped in as we were going to an event in Bowden. As we were shown to our seats in the restaurant, we walked past dishes of delicious looking roast potatoes which made my mind up to have a Sunday roast. I chose the pork belly which, while tasty, would have been so much nicer cooked well & crispy. Very fatty. And where were those roast potatoes?! Mine looked like boiled potatoes with a couple of black bad spots. The yorkshire looked great but had obviously been kept warm so was soft & a bit greasy. Veg was cabbage covered by some baby food looking mush - possibly swede & carrot mash. I don't like swede so couldn't eat that, nor the cabbage as it was covered. Gravy was tasty but hardly any of it. My bf had risotto which he said was really good but it was a huge bowl full. Too full for a pudding after eating. The place is nice, the staff were nice but the food needs a little care & attention. And if you have nice, crispy roasters, serve them!

Booked a table in the dining room, on arrival were told it would be at least a half hour wait or we could have a table in the pub. We chose to eat in the pub as we had a function to go too for 7pm and didn’t want to be late. Waitress arrived after 10/15 mins to take or drink order at the same time asked us if we wanted to order food. Yes please she took or drinks order and went off without taking our food order. Another 10 minutes passed before we managed to get her attention to order our food. Husband had the mixed roast, I had the turkey. When it finally arrived, it was lukewarm to say the least. The gravy was the hottest thing on the plate. Declined desert as we didn’t have enough time to order wait for it to turn up & eat it. Not a pleasant Experience avoid on a Sunday.

Thought it was distinctly average. Service was disinterested, food was ok, decor was funky, they ran out of desserts but didn’t tell us that until we asked. Also you have to walk through a really loud pub with massive tellies and people having a very loud pub quiz in order to get to the restaurant bit. Couldn’t work out where to park. It didn’t match my expectations from their very slick website. The Griffin next door looked better, so we will try that next time.

Really disappointing experience. Having raved about the Sunday lunches here it didn’t even occur to me that we would have anything less than a glorious roast dinner with all the trimmings. How wrong we were. The roast potatoes were pale, parsnips even paler and not cooked enough, tasteless gravy and dry crumbly stuffing - it was terrible. The children’s pasta was worse than any school dinner we had back in the 70s and 80s so that had to go back too. So frustrating when it is a rare treat to go out to eat these days. We complained and were offered a different meal so I selected sausage and mash. This arrived and it was honestly the size of a kids portion. Two small sausages and some mash and veg. Not what you’d expect at the price. We were given a reduction off our bill and told that we were unlucky on this occasion. Well, I can’t afford to take the chance of being lucky or unlucky as to whether I’m going to receive a decent meal or not so sadly won’t be returning again.

Sunday dinner roast (I ordered the ham) was certainly tasty (compliments to the chef), but a bit disappointing portion-wise. I've seen more ham in a supermarket sandwich. It might be my imagination, but compared to the size of the same order six months ago, I had the feeling the portion sizes of all the meals ordered by our table had shrunk. That being said, everyone in our party of six enjoyed their meal, and the pub does have a warm and welcoming ambience, particularly inviting on a cold winter's day. Our only real complaint was the number of dogs in the restaurant. At one stage I counted no less than five. At a table adjacent to ours, the owner of a mid-sized dog was allowing the animal to sit on his lap, its head above and over the tabletop. This should not be allowed. I don't have a particular issue with dogs in pubs, as long as they are well behaved and sitting quietly on the floor. But during our visit last Sunday, a number of the dogs proved they were not pub-trained; barking and growling loudly, being a general nuisance and creating an unnecessary disturbance. And one selfish and unapologetic owner made no attempt to get their animal to behave, or apologize to those uncomfortable with the way it was pawing patrons and sniffing tabletops as it was led through the restaurant. Not a pleasant experience.

We had a very disappointing experience in December. My main course was sub-par (tasteless and far from the menu description) so I went and found someone to speak to and was told I was not the only person who had complained. I didn’t eat it and yet it still appeared on the bill. I got it removed. I wasn’t happy with a few things so I emailed the contract details on the receipt which asked for feedback. No response after a week so I emailed again - still had no response so I assume no one really that bothered. I have the same attitude to returning.

As a 40 y.o., without doubt one of the worst dining / hospitality experiences I’ve ever had with friends and our children at a Christmas get together. Waiting for a long time for food despite being the 2nd table into the pub. 3 of 4 adults ordered a duck dish and when finally served the dish didn’t come with fondant potatoes or blackberries as advertised, but mixed fruits like strawberry/ cherry and a some boiled ‘new’ potatoes (in December). Waitress then told us that chef wasnt in and it was an agency chef that clearly incapable of cooking the menu. Agreed to eat the dishes until my friend cut into his duck and it was raw inside, so we all did the same and ditto for all the duck served; an hour to wait for raw duck. Waitress suggested we order something else but given the wait and that children had eaten by now we didn’t eat and had some chips. Bill came and snacks were included on the bill, no apology and manager did not attempt to rectify situation. Terrible food, worse service and contemptuous management. Happy Christmas.

What a surprise to find the the “soup and sandwich” isn’t a sandwich off their sandwich list, but some shop-sliced white bread with pre-mixed sandwich filling. Soup is a tiny coffee cup of soup. For me an exceptional Sunday roast consists of great food, service and atmosphere and for that reason we booked a table at the Stamford Arms. However upon arrival we were given a table in the adjacent restaurant area the Ugly Ducking which, for those who know it, couldn’t have a more different aesthetic and atmosphere. When I asked about the empty table in the pub, I was told that was reserved in half an hour. I’m not sure how some customers get to maintain their reserved table and others not, but it’s a risk we won’t take again. We didn’t stay and won’t be booking again, which is a shame as we’re locals, but why treat customers like idiots and try to pass off something completely different. Luckily we got a table elsewhere which is not easy last minute on a Sunday!

On a sunny June Friday evening we visited our local the Stamford for an early supper. We are regulars but have not been for a month or so having been away. The outside areas were busy and jolly during for our first of the evening. Inside was empty as we sat down to eat what proved to be a severe disappointment. The menu has been chopped to 5 or so dishes , steaks or fish and chips plus a veggie option. We chose fillet steak which when it came was minuscule, tough and grisly. The accompanying salad was mainly chopped lettuce drowned in some kind of viscous dressing. We left our food and complained. It was clear that the lovely, regular waitress who we know well was embarrassed that we as regulars were unhappy and reported it to the manager whose reaction was to wipe the food bill. Whilst a fitting reaction I would rather that the previous good standards had been maintained and that we had enjoyed our food. If this great pub is to maintain its revival it’s management needs to address what is clearly a problem with its kitchen.

The food was great and the staff were really good with us, especially the young kids. Despite the pub being busy and noisy they took really good care of us and seemingly everyone else. Will definitely be back

Tasty fish finger sandwich, companions had parsnip soup, turkey sandwich, beef and cheese sandwich and brie & cranberry sandwich. All delicious. I'd have liked more mushy peas, and the lads said the gravy they had with their sarnies was a bit Bisto, but the prices are very fair, so it pans out. Service a wee bit slow, but cheerful and accurate which made up for it. The pub is very dog friendly, with plentiful biscuits and water bowls, so they get an extra star from me for service!

Lovely cosy pub restaurant. Staff are so welcoming and friendly. Food is delicious. Be aware that on a Friday night it is quite loud from the busy bar area. That’s for me the only negative as it was hard to chat sometimes. Would definitely recommend though still and return. What makes this place is the amazing staff and the fabulous food. Nothing was too much trouble and as it was my birthday they made an extra special effort so thank you.

Booked months ago for a group booking, the England WC game ended up landing on the same day, despite the pub being very busy as a result of this the service and food was fantastic. Would recommend.

Lovely pub. Good bar food. Cosy place in the winter to sit with the real fires lit. Not tried the new restaurant yet.

Came here for a wake. Real sense of home coming into the atmosphere and the food was lovely wish I had stashed some of the chocolate brownie one of the best I've tasted.

We went for a Sunday lunch as a family of 4. The service felt a little rushed. The food was terrible. We had two roast dinners which were probably the worst Sunday roasts I have had in a long time. The beef burger also wasn't great. The best was the pasta from the kids menu which was basic but nonetheless decent. Total cost was £84. I won't be going here again.

I’m a regular at The Stamford .. it’s my local. I rarely review places .. but my father and I had such a lovely Sunday dinner there last weekend that I wanted to make the effort. The food was spot on.. but more importantly I wanted to highlight to others the exceptional customer service. The whole team there are very welcoming, attentive and friendly.. however, it was Grace that made our evening extra special. Her desire to help, attention to detail and listening skills were exceptional. Often the elderly can get overlooked but Grace ensured that the whole experience was perfect .. even down to packaging up his plum crumble to take home .. the portions are huge! On top of that she has the most beautiful smile. She’s clearly an extremely valued member of the team there as her manager told me when we were leaving. Very yummy early Christmas roast .. see you soon guys !! Tracey x

Poor. The service was very slow despite being quiet. I ordered soup which was rather ok and a steak. The waiting time was incredibly long and when it came the meat was a very cheap cut and tough. Dreadfully over cooked. I was hungry and didn't fancy waiting even longer so I just ate it. Very pricey for something so bog standard. My company was nice but I won't bother going back.

After a lovely walk in Dunham Park we came seeking a satisfying pub lunch. The food we got was bland unimaginative and outrageously overpriced. Plain toasted white sliced bread, cheap oven chips, no thought, no skill and served on enamel metal trays, it looked awful and tasted of very little - so much for fine dining in leafy Cheshire! The only 'saving grace' was there wasn't much of it to endure! Never again!

I ordered a 2 course menu which should be £16, I’m quite sure that is as I pointed to the staff the choices I picked. It end up charged me £22. I asked the staff and she said the menu is wrong. A very dishonest restaurant. Very disappointed.

Visited to catch up with friends over a drink and a meal. Have been using The Stamford for over 50 years and whilst it still offers somewhere to go for a drink and a bite to eat. Our food was good but a number of other things let it down. The choice of real ales is very limited, especially when one of them is off, as it was for our visit. The bar area is often so noisy (piped muzac and loud customers) that it's difficult to chat, even across one of the small tables. The pub has also become something of a go-to place for parents who insist on sharing their unruly children with other customers and dog owners who believe their animal needs to participate in their every social activity. As someone who put others first when chosing whether to inflict my children on them I take exception to parents who assume that 'anything goes' in a pub. As an animal lovel I take exception to customers who insist on subjecting their pet to the unnatural environment of a crowded pub. It surely cannot be right that the Stamford allows dogs on their chairs and certainly unhygenic to allow them to access the tops of dining tables. Stop pandering to the demanding few, be pro-active in managing unruly customers and perhaps the responsible majority will vote with their feet and use the pub more often?

Ordered overpriced ham and cheese toastie...absolutely terrible! One slice of old looking ham and something resembling cheese smeared on old bread - couldn't believe they actually thought it was okay to serve this to a customer 👎

What a welcoming pub! We were spending the week in Dunham Massey and just had to try the local pub. We were not disappointed. The Vine Inn welcomed our large group, including three young children, enthusiastically. Emily couldn’t have done more to make us feel comfortable and at ease, and she engaged brilliantly with the kids. Mark in the kitchen cooked up a storm and the plates were polished clean. Classic pub options and vegetarian/vegan options too. We were stuffed. And the pub will forever affectionately be known to us as “Emily’s Pub”, thanks to my three year old. (Note, as a Sam Smith pub there are no electronic devices allowed, which suited us down to the ground. Who doesn’t need a night off the grid?!)

A nice Costa Coffee location. Located in White City in Manchester. It makes a pleasant place to visit amongst all the furniture retailers and the discount stores and supermarket outlets. Nice place to take a few minutes out Grab a drink and take a break.
