I am very disappointed with our meal this evening. Lots of menu items were unavailable. The chef forgot our seasonal vegetables so we were halfway through our meal before they arrived. Our first server was helpful and apologetic; the second couldn't be bothered. The service was very slow, and in the end, we gave up waiting for someone to take our dessert order. We had to go to find someone before we could get our bill. Something serious needs to be done to sort out the problems we encountered!

Front of house staff were excellent but seemed frustrated, the food was okay and we were offered a huge discount. The head chef on the other hand, even the front of house staff had complaints about their own chefs to us as the customer, we were told to get our orders in quick as the chefs wanted to go home, this was only 9pm as well. Half the menu wasn’t available in stock either. Sorry for the language but I’m glad I never seen the chef as I can’t put into words how much of a tosser he seemed. Underprepared in the kitchen and didn’t seem arsed one bit, disgraceful from the chefs.

First time visiting with my sister, her partner and my daughter, we really enjoyed our food, fresh and tasty. I had the panko breaded buttermilk burger with chips and curry mayo, the chicken was bigger than the bun but it was super yummy. My daughter had mac and cheese with fries and garlic bread and she loved it. Only thing I would say is to have a drinks menu with the food menu.

We popped in for a drink during a hike and had a good time. Their beer garden is really spacious.

Food is of a low quality and has been over the past 3 times I have been in. Tagliatelle is bland and sticky. Terrible vegetarian option. Steak today was stringy with fat. The salad and chips were OK. The drinks are a reasonable price in comparison to city centre prices. I won't eat here again, really low quality food. I would nip in for a drink as the environment is nice. The menu is also so limited. You turn it over and there's nothing on the other side at lunch time in the week. I really want them to sort the food here because if they did, its in a great location.

Just had afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. I can thoroughly recommend this menu. Value for money, fresh and tasty. Staff brilliant, very clean premises and nothing too much trouble. I highly recommend the Fox and Kitchen.

First time for a while after a previous disappointing experience, this was worse so won't be visiting again. Slow forgetful service, and food was borderline (burnt to a cinder burger on a tiny brioche bun, overcooked fish....). Used to be a frequent spot, but is so far below where it used to be.........

Went in for food with a friend. We both had the flat bread with chicken tikka. It was really nice with the dips and I would have it again. Also had the salt and pepper chips which were really nice. Service was good and we would return.

This was my first visit to the Fox and I was very impressed .The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. We managed to sit outside where there was plenty of seating.

Been here lots of times always good. We had Sunday lunch on 7.7.24. Fabulous. I think we were looked after by head waitress and another waitress both outstanding nothing to much trouble. Ps. Gravey to die for. Geraldine and Mark Urmston.

Sunday Dinner menu was delicious, and the service was spot on.

I really do love this place staff are great however I have been visiting for a while and in the female toilets there is Always a toilet and/or both a tap out of action and closed off this has been like this for a while why they can't sort it our is beyond me!! Please sort it out getting very tiresome!

Out for a family Sunday lunch. On arrival we were advised around half of the options from the menu were not available. We all ordered starters which in all fairness we all 'OK' I ordered the Sirloin of Beef roast, Served Pink. My husband ordered the Pork Ribeye. My daughter a chicken wrap. When i was served the first attempt of my meal on the plate were 3 very small, thin burnt pieces of beef. I asked the waitress if this was how it should be served, they agreed not and said they would replace it. Around 3 minutes later another plate arrived with 2 small chanteny carrots, cabbage that looked like it had been thrown on the plate, 2 roast potatoes and a think piece of steak full of grizzle, yes a pudding, a piece of steak not roast sirloin of beef and a yorkshire I again asked the waitress was this correct, they sent the manager over. The manager advised that they had ran out of beef so sent the steak instead without even telling us. At this point my husbands meal was cold as it was only barley warm when it arrived. So we decided to let our daughter finish hers and we declined anything further. The manager advised they would remove the 2 meals from the bill (the two meals that were not eaten) There was no offer of a complimentary drink or apology at all. Very very poor. And still a hefty bill for the expensive starters and bottle of wine.

An early visit meant it wasn’t as busy as usual. Food was excellent and service was good. They were accommodating and even allowed a choice from the lunch menu rather than the early evening menus.

Incredibly poor service. Actively ignored by the serving staff for 20 minutes until we left. Tables around us were being welcomed and served but we clearly weren't welcome.

We visited this venue with family for Sunday Lunch and it did not disappoint. They had a live singer playing whilst we enjoyed our lunch, the food was absolutely fantastic & the staff were all so helpful.

I've always enjoyed eating here but sadly the quality of food has become so low, I would never eat here again. Last time I actually couldn't eat the food and returned it, wasn't offered anything else. Thought I would give it another try this weekend but it was not nice. Overcooked fish, stale bread. Microwaved pie. The prices aren't cheap either. Such a shame as it's literally my local.

Good place for a quick meal and a relaxing drink. Has good parking outside with some seats for those nicer days.

Beef Rib was the best ive had just fell apart

Celebrating my mum’s 86 birthday, 9 adults and my grandson who is 15 months old . Everyone enjoyed their meal , good service and even provided some candles for the birthday cake I took. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the live music. Definitely go again as all ages were catered for 👍

Had a lovely meal with friends yesterday the place was lovely and clean and well laid out. Two of us had the Steak & Kidney pudding which was very nice and packed with very tender Steak and gravy, good hand cut chips and not badly priced. We arrived at 3.15pm and we were seated right away one very small disappointment was that we had to wait until 4.30pm for the Dinner menu to start but after a couple of drinks that didn't really matter. Definitely recommend the Fox and i think we will be returning.

Visited recently for Sunday lunch with the family (a group of 8) Bit of a mixed bag really; some of us thought the food was ok but others were disappointed. All in all I'd say decent pub grub but a little pricey for what you get. Will definitely return and try again

To be honest not our usual type of establishment, we went after a rugby match, from the outside it looked great unfortunately it was a busy Sunday afternoon and it showed. Prices were reasonable and whilst the food was fairly standard SWMBO was not happy with her lamb being particularity under-cooked.

It's always a lovely experience at the Fox. Service & food of a great standard. Staff attentive but not intrusive.A really well run pub.

We went to The Fox, a party of 7, on a Sunday. The menu was plentiful, something for everyone 😋. We chose different starters, so we could have a taste of everything. Also the main courses were generous, food was lovely. Not the usual typical pub grub, but a lovely home cooked appeal. Pleasing to the eye, plated up at a good standard, nice & hot. Service with a smile, the staff couldn't do enough....definitely will return again...definitely recommend going there....x

Awful service, came on a Sunday and booked a table for 4 people. We asked really politely if we could add 2 more people as we could see that the tables were free (I also work in a restaurant) they said no there’s no space we laughed and said no problem it’s our own fault, the food runner (scraped back hair black top with pink flowers) then said yes it is your fault l. We then looked online and you could book another table for 6 we asked if we could book that online, they said no because they showing online but not actually available? Does not make sense, so when you book a table you could get here and it not actually be available? The tables were free the whole time we was there. Restaurant was not busy as we were there early and they ran out of a lot of Sunday roast items. We then waited 1.5 hours for the food so was there for nearly 3 hours. Very disappointed would not come back, ruined our Sunday, more from being mean to us and on a power trip.

We visited today to celebrate our Dad’s 70th birthday as a meeting place between our families. All the food was excellent quality, very reasonably priced and generous portion sizes, and the staff were attentive, friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back if we are in the area again, thank you very much! 🤩

I went here for a wake and my autistic son with an optical disability but doesn't use a stick was treat with disrespect by the landlady, when he asked her to show him where he could sit because he couldn't see when she showed the other family member, she just barked at him 'I already told you' then walked off, she was then in such a mood the rest of the day it upset him and made him feel very uncomfortable and if you know anything about autistic you know they can't communicate like everyone else, the bread was stale from the beginning and he did mention this he was later told this was rude, then we were asked to move from near the front entrance while smoking him and I and we were annoyed because no one had said anything all day but he did apologise if he'd upset the member of staff. He then complained on Facebook with the family's blessing but the landlady chose to pick on him and accuse him being aggressive, extremely rude and that our family had been in a fight that the staff had to intervene, there was no fight and he certainly was not aggressive especially to the member of staff who asked us to move when we were smoking, so like he said there was no need to mention it all over Facebook because he'd already apologise and even after he told the landlady about his autism she still came back with 'oh it's still your behaviour and you will never grace us with you presence again' I've had this issue before company's and establishment like this think they can bully and intimidate people with mental disabilities and get away with it especially online, but I can assure you not a single member if my family will ever grace this premises again.

Booked a table on Monday 29 Jan 2024. 50% off food which was an excellent offer and has been available throughout January, although some items were unavailable the majority of mains were available. Food, service and staff were excellent.

We walked in on Wednesday night and were turned away by a waitress because they weren't taking 'walk-ins'. I could understand if every table were taken, but there were many free. I then asked if all of them were reserved, which they clearly weren't and I was told such. I was then given a different story that the kitchen closes soon. At a busy 'eatery' style pub at 19:30?! Don't be ridiculous. Either they were under-staffed or just couldn't be bothered and had been told to give a lame excuse. Other diners told me there was a 50% off deal on, and that half the menu was unavailable anyway. In hindsight, I should have booked, but that offer was not mentioned anywhere on the website, and it even has a specific "news and offers" page that I'd visited earlier in the day. We had to get a taxi into Urmston instead as there's nothing else nearby. I don't mind somewhere being busy... good for them, but save the phony explanation please and show a little compassion for customers; I didn't even get a simple apology.

A massive thank you to all the staff at The Fox for making mine and my wife's 50th birthday celebrations a brilliant night on Saturday. Nothing was to much trouble, we had 4 tables reserved in the bar and Jake was brilliant with his hospitality as were you all. The food was excellent and we fully understood that the restaurant was also busy but we were updated throughout the afternoon and evening on waiting times. I would definitely recommend The Fox and we'll be back soon. Thanks again to you all 👍🍻

Nice pub, nicely decorated and nice food but rubbish service. The young girl didn’t have a clue what she was doing, dirty plates left hanging around for over half an hour, setting a new table up (nobody waiting for a table) while we were trying to order drinks etc . She looked really miserable too. Worth a visit and just hope she is not your waitress .

Food and service all good pepper sauce though after being lovely last time was like dishwater consistency of water and tasteless.Consistency is the key to a good restaurant I’m afraid.

We expected a better experience from The Fox. It was a quiet lunchtime, but the service was poor. We were kept waiting for starters and the main course. Staff seemed to be hanging around a lot, and it was quiet. There were a few booked in afternoon tea diners, and the staff were more attentive towards them than the walkins.

We came in as a group of 5 ladies and we were pleasantly surprised with the food, the staff and the atmosphere of the place. Couldn’t recommend enough everything was perfect.

The Fox used to be a great pub for really lovely food cooked and presented very well, sadly this has all changed in recent times. We went for a meal for four of us a few weeks ago in early December, the food took nearly 1.5 hours to come out, and was very poor, we even went for a take out afterwards as we were still hungry. Hoping that it was a one off issue, we booked a table of 12 for the 17th December (a family Christmas meal), most of the starters had to be sent back, just shocking, dry mushrooms on dry bread, the pate was literally a tea spoon of what was supposed to be pate (we couldn’t tell what it was) and a lump of jelly on the top, and the prawns were 4 prawns with a piece of stale bread! many of us refused to even risk trying a second starter replacement, and the manager even agreed it was shocking! The mains were mostly awful as well, the blade of beef was a small bit of chewy meat mostly fat, and missing all the advertised trimmings beyond a lump of mash! There was too much wrong with it all to even list here. None of us will ever be going back, even though they gave us all 50% off next meal vouchers as a sorry for how bad it all was. Just avoid the Fox now if you want a nice meal, it’s fine for just having a drink.

I booked a table for my son his partner and myself for Christmas eve for 2pm. I booked the table on 11TH NOVEMBER 2023. WELL OVER A MONTH BEFORE THE DATE. When we arrive we were shown straight to a table, as we were sitting down the waitress came back and asked us would we move, someone had asked for that table. We agreed and was shown to a very small table that could have held two dinners at a push, we refused the table. We were then offered a table that was the same but square instead of round. We told them we refuse that table as its not bigger just as small, just a different shape. We were then told they were just clearing a bigger table and it would be a few mins. We waited 30mins and I asked about the table. I was told it was almost ready. After another at least 20 mins we were seated. We were not offered any kind of compensation for the inconvenience. The food was of a good standard but the family time was ruined due to the service. Needless to say I didn't leave a tip.

We went to listen to the christmas carols by a brass ensemble. The place was packed! Luckily, we booked a table. I had the ultimate fish and chips. All freshly prepared. Definitely the best fish and chips I've had in a pub. Fully recommend this pub.

Love the Fox, food is delicious and kitchen chef’s need more credit than they get. Excellent friendly staff who can’t do enough for us. We visit couple of times a week and hadn’t had a bad meal yet. Portion sizes are superb and very tasty. 5* from us 😋

Visited yesterday evening with 10 family members for our annual Christmas get together. The pub was fairly empty and had plenty of staff working. We’d all preordered from the Christmas menu about a week in advance so there wouldn’t be any confusion with what we’d all ordered. The starters came out, after about 25 minutes. I had ordered the prawn cocktail, along with another family member. It was shocking..Where do I start. 4 prawns sat on a bed of warm wilted lettuce and 4 squares of stale bread. Another family member ordered the pate but we weren’t entirely sure what it actually was, so we sent that back. My partner ordered garlic mushrooms, which consisted of 3 mushrooms sat on a dry piece of bread..that went back to the kitchen, to be redone..which was better when it came back out. Then the mains came to our table..we all felt at this point we should’ve gone somewhere else. The portion sizes were abysmal. I’d ordered the blade of beef, which consisted of a piece of meat about 3 inches long on a dollop of mashed potatoes with 5 teeny mushrooms and a shaving of what looked like carrot. I was that disappointed I didn’t even order dessert..I didn’t want to spend anymore of my hard earned cash on substandard food, in what used to be such a lovely pub. The food used to be so delicious and I have visited many times before. I sorry to say we won’t ever be returning..it was awful and it ruined our family gathering. It’s obvious that the kitchen staff have changed..the food is rubbish

We had Christmas lunch here yesterday and it was a lovely experience. The food was delicious, the staff attentive and very pleasant and the crackers were brilliant! We spent a fun time reading the jokes and trivia cards.

Had a fabulous meal here today. Food was spot on and the staff were lovely. Highly recommend it. Unfortunately went again yesterday, the 14th December, and was very disappointed. Booked early, 12 15, waited an hour for soup and sandwich for 5. Soup had to be returned as it was cold. Waited again for sorbets, which was served in a hot bowl. Coffee was also cold and was told that was the way the machine made it . Very disappointing. Been before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Excellent Sunday lunch today, roast beef & Yorkshire pudding followed by lemon tart. The food was delicious, and the service was great, I will definitely ho again.

Came in tonight for a family Christmas meal. Fantastic atmosphere and great service and great food. A member of staff that particularly stood out was a young lady called Megan. She was so friendly and helpful and constantly smiled and couldn’t do enough for our party of 6. She is a valued member of the team and really nailed the 5* customer service keep up the hard work xx

Not impressed at all. Fish and chips were ordered by 3 of our party. The fish was very small. The batter was thick and brittle. The fish inside overcooked. The chips were very dark and when eaten, lukewarm at best and the skins were gritty. Mushy peas were cold. I left most of my meal as inedible. I discussed my extreme disappointment with the waiter and was told they had an agency chef working that day and had recently changed their fish supplier! I was offered coffee by way of “apology”. Poor service, poor food.

Food lovely pepper sauce bang on but please train your FOH staff to be more attentive no check back and three different members of staff had chances to ask if we’d enjoyed it especially when paying the bill but not a word.Plates remained on the table the whole time after we’d finished initial welcome at the bar was friendly but it’s crucial feedback to find out if people are happy with everything some people won’t say anything unless asked.

tried it 3 times now. Always me and 2 kiddos 6 and 12. Once a week, slowly becoming regulars as we are quite all really happy with it.

Nut roast had no taste . Advised new recipe . Plus no carrots with this meal . All other roasts had carrots. Roast potatoes undercooked

Me and my wife visited the fox for the first time. We both chose the ultimate fish scampi and chips. I have to say we were both impressed with the food and service, the one minor constructive criticism is that my wife thought we would get a choice of bread. The Xmas decorations are amazing, we'll be visiting again. 5 stars

Catered for a party of ten , with all meals arriving at the same time and were delicious.

Lovely lil pub, been a few times when I've visited friends. Dog friendly, even free biscuits and water for your pooch. Food is lovely, fast service and tidy prices. Definitely going again.

Chicken and stuffing ciabatta- chicken was overcooked, stuffing was dry and crumbly (mentioned in previous reviews; why has this not been rectified?), ciabatta was stale (and not toasted), chips soggy and gravy tasteless. Overall disappointing.

Lunchtime menu is fabulous for the money, just enough to keep you going until tea time! The staff are always lovely and couldn't be more helpful

My sister had her wedding meal here with family & a few close friends. The manager was very helpful from the start, he said we could have the room to ourselves so it would be private. He was also helpful in advising what food to choose because of the number of people attending. There was no pressure to choose, all he needed was confirmation the week before. On the day there were some of the guests who wanted to choose from the menu, which was not a problem and all the food was available at the same time. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious, everyone said how lovely the food was. There was lots of food left over and the manager provided containers so guests took take food home. We have nothing but praise for all of the staff on the day who were lovely, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all very, very much. We would thoroughly recommend The Fox to anyone who is thinking of eating here, you will not be disappointed.

Bit of a boring menu tbh The pub is lovely and clean though

Having recently rescued a very nervous dog, I called ahead to ask if they’re dog friendly. I was advised they are dog friendly at the bar but they won’t take bookings for the bar area and it’s walk in only. Upon arrival, we were told that no food is being served to the bar area due to an issue with their POS system, and they are only honouring bookings (that we weren’t allowed to make…) I explained to the FOH, that I had called ahead and wasn’t advised of any issues and my parents had travelled 30mins to join us for dinner. They wouldn’t budge on their stance and brush us of entirely. I appreciate it must be a stressful situation with the system being down, but have some empathy to accommodate customers if you can, or even have some flex to your policies in this instance. Fortunately we were forced to try somewhere else which ended up being great, not sure we’ll be back to the fox, especially reading about their food being frozen 😳

I'm responding to the post below by David Wilde. I was a customer in The Fox on a nearby table on this night. I feel I have to respond in support of the staff at The Fox. Mr Wilde's behaviour towards the staff was disgraceful. He was rude, arrogant and very disruptive. I understand that people have a right to complain if something is not up to standard, but there are polite ways to complain. Not this way. He was yelling at staff from the start. It was obvious to me that he was never going to be satisfied with his food or the service. He was slamming his plates on the kitchen counter, very aggressively. I should imagine the staff felt very intimidated by his behaviour. To me it was bullying and if I was the manager, i would have barred him. Nobody has the right to speak to people in that manner. I go to The Fox regularly. The staff are polite and helpful. I find the service is great and the food is lovely. This man was just rude.

Driest pork we’ve ever had and potato’s weren’t much better. Weakest gravy in the North!

The roast beef was absolute perfection – tender, juicy, and packed with flavor! 🤤 And those crispy roast potatoes? Pure magic! 😍 The Yorkshire pudding was like fluffy clouds. The fantastic team at the Fox always there with a smile. The service was top-notch, and they made me feel like an honorary Fox family member Hands down, this place is a must-visit for Sunday roast enthusiasts!

We've just had a team work do here. Can't say enough good things about this place. The service has been excellent from the minute I first walked in to organise the event. On the evening itself we could not have been better looked after, the food was excellent, especially given that we were a party of 20. Thank you to all the team and chefs, especially Louise, Paula and Dave for making it a fun and memorable night for us all

We visit the fox on a regular basis and always find the staff friendly, the pub has a great atmosphere about it and has regular live entertainment over the weekends,the food is a good standard and reasonably priced,a great selection of beers. If your looking for somewhere to dine or just a drink or two I would highly recommend giving the Fox a go

Upon arrival, the welcome wasn't very warm. We had booked a table with the request for a high chair, which wasn't at the table and instead were told "don't know where the pram will fit". Then, we were only told upon ordering that certain foods weren't available, after making us wait 10 minutes to actually order. these things should be said to customers upon sitting down. The portion size for the roast was very small, normally roast sizes are so big that one feels too full to have a dessert, but this was tiny, especially for the price! The only good thing was the taste, amount and temperature of the gravy.. The staff throughout our short stay weren't very friendly and really looked like they didn't enjoy their jobs. One member spilt some gravy (which can happen) over our daughter's cuddly toy and the cup holder on our pram and didn't even apologise or offer to bring us anything to clean it up with and he was fully aware he had done it. We were planning on having dessert before entering the pub, but very quickly decided to leave as soon as possible. Overall, the service was very poor and portion sizes tiny, definitely would not recommend nor come again!

Great place to be fair, staff are always welcoming. Have had the beef dinner a few times with Yorkshire pud last time, the beef and veg was spot on. Best onion rings ever. However they do not do fresh Yorkshire puddings and roasts, they are frozen what tastes exactly like and was confirmed are bought in. Ramsey would have a field day here. No excuse for this at all.. let’s it down BIG TIME
