The Stainton in Middlesbrough

Popped in for lunch. Service was slow and what seemed like the owner a misrable middle aged fella could not even crack a smile let alone notice we were stood there.We had tea and coffees both were cold .Cake slices were hard we could not eat them. Felt sorry for the young girl behind the counter the way the manager was talking to her in front of customers.Will not be returning.Its the Manager/ Owner who needs to learn some customer service skills and manners

We waited outside for the place to open at the alloted hour but eventually gave up and got fish and chips elsewhere. Surprised!

Four of us came for Sunday dinner, it was empty, us and a different party on another table, it took 55 minutes for our meal to arrive, which was the most smallest, cold, unflavoured dinner, ive ever seen, like everything had been dipped in hot water and put on the plate, 1 bowl of veg to share came between 4 people, asked for another bowl which was a waste of time because by the time it came, we had eaten the dinner, only because we were hungry we ate it. The price of the dinner £12.50 what an absolute rip of, oh and paid extra for 3 pigs and blanket Stay away people

Just back from afternoon tea at the Stainton Inn. This was a gift voucher from friends for my 70th Birthday in February and I have only just got the chance to redeem it. Well, it was worth the wait. Lovely fresh quiche, sausage roll and salad, and very tasty sandwiches, scones, cakes and lemon mousse. It was all washed down with a very large pot of tea. Excellent! We'll definitely be going back. Staff friendly and efficient.

Went for an early dinner on a groupon voucher staff very friendly and attentive had to wait approx. 20 mins for the different meals to be prepared and cooked but well worth the time waiting. Food was excellent service was great and despite the hype about Covid 19 tables were parted 1 metre apart staff were there to sanitize areas door handles etc open for business as usual only 2 set of dinners present

Visited here after a funeral. Lovely food and the young waitress was really nice. I was asking about calling in for afternoon tea and she was helpful and very friendly.

Chose this place from a list for a selective evening meal. The service good and we were not disappointed.

Great little place,off the besten track,food is lovely,staff are polite and friendly,dog friendly to,i would reccomend and will return.

I can not say how impressed I am with this amazing place. The food is amazing the service is second to none. The staff can’t do enough for you. The management Paula and rob are allways there to help with anything you need, I’m so grateful to have this as my local pub. Well done to all the staff

I purchased the afternoon tea package for my parents and gave it to them as part of their Christmas box. They booked in advance and turned up 10 minutes before their table was booked. They were offered a drink - mum asked for hers straight away, with dads to follow once their meal arrived. 40 minutes passed and they had no drink or food. Other tables arrived after them and they were seated and served straight away. My parents asked for their drinks and their meal, and sat and waited some more. After an hour the meal finally arrived, Their cup of tea was served with no spoon, so mum had to stir her tea with her knife as here was no-one around to ask for a teaspoon, and there was no spoon for their dessert - they tried to eat it using their fork! My mum & dad were so fed up they asked for their remaining afternoon tea to be boxed and took it home! This is not the experience that I wished for them & a gift I would not be recommending to anyone.

Our son bought us Afternoon Tea as a present for me. On arrival we were shown to our table and our order for tea was taken. This came in quick time.Shortly after that our Afternoon Tea arrived. A hot plate came with quiche, sausage roll and salad. There was ham, egg mayo and cheese savoury sandwiches. Plus butterfly cakes and cream and jam scones. To top it off there was Lemmon Posset with a white chocolate cookie to finish off.The Tea Rooms were busy with booked tables and walk inns. There was a lovely cozy atmosphere with people talking and laughing.Staff were superb, being, friendly, attentive, nothing was to much trouble, in short, very professional. This is by far and away the nicest Afternoon Tea we have ever had. I particularly like the hot savoury idea. It is not just about the food though; excellent service from the staff and the warm cozy ambience all combined to make a memorable visit.Do we recommend this place, the answer is yes, highly recommended.

never go back again food was atrocious 🤮🤮🤮service was good but food quality was poor under cooked and out off date salad was brown as if had been there for days NEVER AGAIN

Had a lovely Afternoon Tea, the Ouiche and sausage roll were delicious as was the whole tea. Such great value for money. Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit in a couple of weeks.

We had a family meal for four of us today at Lunch time , We used a Groupon Voucher given as a Gift, We each had a Chicken Parmosan , Very nice meal perfectly cooked and just as good as it looked on the pictures, We were looked after well by the staff and enjoyed the meal, We will be back to try another dish.

Went on Thursday 16th January for lunch, met the wife there at 12.15, we both were back at work in the afternoon. Went in, the place is a lovely setting and we were seated at table no 7 which is a bit precarious as it is up steps and I was seated with my chair backing on to the “drop”. Tables next to us were empty at this point. Ordered soup and garlic mushrooms for starters. They took 35 minutes to arrive, both were delicious however the bread we had seen taken out of the oven was cold inside.

Called for a drink and assess the pub as we are looking at property there. Won't be going back. There were a few families in and there was very loud nightclub music playing. This didn't suit me at 2 in the afternoon. Stood at the bar for quite a while before being acknowledged even though someone else was counting the till. A lady said she would attend to me soon which was fine. After another wait a local who had previously made eye contact with me at the bar got up and stood at it. After another wait the lady who had spoken to me then decided to go and serve the local first. Not impressed.

Ordered the fish and chips the fish was not good at all mostly batter. Chips weren’t much better. The others thought there meals were good. Won’t be back

Had a groupon meal on a Wednesday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and service was just right. Ruby hobgoblin was a bonus!

We booked the stainton arms for my mams birthday 5 of us went,we went on monday 16th Decemberand decided on the christmas menu,i would like to say it was beautiful,food was amazing and service was 1st class,Nothing was to much trouble,would highly recomend this lovely pub & restaurant

They r so friendly great afternoon tea you get plenty to eat if you don’t like tea you can have a coffee or fruit juice nice seating area

Tasty,traditional food which was served piping hot. I chose mince and dumplings which was served with 3 vegetables and was delicious. My friends were all pleased with their choices and said that the chips wete lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Such good value

My fault completely but I thought I’d book the stainton arms for afternoon tea and hadn’t I’d booked somewhere else but when we turned up 4 of us and a little baby we were told there was no booking I completely accepted it was my fault and said I’d just pay again for afternoon tea it was my friends birthday the man said he would have to ask he then came over and said no just no we all just looked at each other and didn’t no what to do so I said well can you serve us lunch oh yes he said and sat us right next to the door even though the place was empty

Got a groupon deal for two parmos for £11. Wasn’t expecting much but what we got was outstanding. Beautiful meals, drinks are very reasonable and the staff are friendly and polite. A lovely place tucked away in scenic village. We will be coming back

Hi just been to tea rooms they had mix up with dates but they let us have the tea I just thought how lovely of them to do that we booked with groupon the staff were great as usual I had been with my daughter and told my friends so they come today just want to say what a gem of a place keep up your good work x

Friends bought us a groupon for this lovely little place, as we love our afternoon tea and have tested about 30 to 40+ over the last few years! This one has now gone right to the top of our list .......everything was home made and to perfection, the service was fantastic, the place itself is just so homely and bright with gorgeous decor....... but the thing that set this apart for us (as well as the most amazing tasting afternoon tea) is that when I called to explain that my partner does not like Mayo in his sandwiches, I didn’t get the usual “what would you like instead, or we only have meat ones then” or any of that, I just got a very friendly “no problem” and when we arrived the sandwiches he got were exactly the same as mine but all made specially for my partner without the Mayo, this meant for the first time he could enjoy every bite the same as me with just as much variety...... that type of attention to detail is what makes this an outstanding place to go ...... we are definitely going back, thank you so much Stainton inn xx

Came tonight for sons birthday as he really fancied a Parmo. Oh my goodness they did not disappoint. I ordered gluten free and they were huge, and so delicious. When I mentioned to one of the staff it was my sons birthday, they brought out his Parmo with a birthday candle and all came and sang happy birthday as well as the locals. Such a lovely atmosphere and staff were so, so friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to go again, I think I might make this my new local.

On a rare Sunday off work for my wife we decided to go out for lunch.

Just had Afternoon Tea with my husband and it was truly amazing. Home made quiche and sausage rolls, the bread for the sandwiches so soft and the cakes, scones and lemon desert was gorgeous.

Came here for my husbands birthday. Pre booked our seats and arrived for 7.30pm as booked. When we put our orders in we told they only had 2 Parmos left so we changed our orders and ordered steak, they waived the extra charge for this as we had a groupon which made a surcharge for steak but waived it due to the inconvenience, the waitress then came and said they only had 2 steaks left and we ordered 4. We had to change to order again to gammon. The waitress then offered us all a round of drinks due to this. Our meals came out, we ordered sauce for the steaks and onion rings as a side. I’ve got to say the meal was beautiful. I paid with my groupon no problem at all with no extra charges and they gave me a cheesecake due to there being in 7 of us and the voucher was for 8 people. I felt they went over and beyond too accommodate us. I will return but maybe pre order next time

This lovely country pub is likely to be our local in the not too distant future and being rather thirsty we stopped in for a 'quick wet' and a taste of the local beverage, we were not disappointed - lovely ambience, lovely bar staff, really enjoyable.

Lovely afternoon tea. Can't praise the staff highly enough - we had a wheelchair user with our party and staff were very very helpful. Changed our table for one with more room; put a temporary ramp to the front entrance to facilitate access and none of it too much trouble. Will certainly visit this lovely establishment again and soon.

Best Sunday dinner around everything is homemade and all very tasty would recommend and will be back

Had a nice meal of fish and chips, fresh fresh with a nice batter, chips were also very good, the owners served us and were really helpful i would definitely return.

Went here today for Sunday Lunch. It was a carvery. We went for the 2 meat option (4 meats to chose from) which was £8.95 each.

Went the the Stainton again with my Wife and daughters. We all had Parmo's whuch were beautiful. Not massive but very tasty. Hand cut home made chips were beautiful and the salad and dressing were gorgeous. We'll definitely go again as it was so nice. Thanks a lot

Our dinner organiser managed to book us 2 tables, one for 7 people at 6:45 and another for 18 at 7:30. Having pre-ordered, our starters were ready and waiting so it wasn’t long before we were into the main course. Some interesting quotes on the walls, and friendly service, if a bit rushed off her feet. Karaoke Saturday nights. #ferro roche cheesecake!

Booked with Groupon voucher for afternoon tea at 1pm, pub quite busy as it was Friday only table for 2 was very claustrophobic in a corner. Meal was lovely with hot pastries and salad then sandwiches, cakes and a lovely lemon mousse asked for extra tea with no problem, Lots of other people enjoying the afternoon tea there too.

This is a bold statement on a local fave but we tried a groupon here for the first time. Fresh plump chicken breast, right amount of sauce, not too much cheese and crispy breadcrumbs. Homemade chips and loads of garlic sauce. What more could you want?

Called in for lunch. We both had Chicken Parmesan, served up with salad and home cooked chips. Food was very good as was the value. Staff were attentive and helpful. We will certainly return.

We had a groupon voucher for two and arranged to go on a weekday lunchtime. First impressions were good it was reasonably busy and bright clean and airy inside.

Regularly visit the Stainton inn and Tea Rooms for outstanding quality food and good value for money. Myself and my brother visited just the other day and I had the best Vegetable Chilli I have ever tasted. Kodos to the chef the Crispy tacos which accompany it were amazing, I must get the rescipe! My brother had the Chicken Parmo and he said it was one of the best he'd eaten in the area - perfect amount of cheese and bechemel.

Went here with a groupon deal that was reasonably priced. Took a while to get served at the bar ans when I sat down I noticed my drink had a load of black gunk around the rim with fluff stuck to it

Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. Fantastic value for money. Would highly reccomend. The pastries were fresh from the oven and tasted delicious. Both me and my son came away very full and very happy. Thank you.

Our son and his fiancée had their engagement party here on Saturday night. The choices we selected were Parmesans, chips and salad or pies and peas. Vegetarians were also catered for with quiche, chips and salad. Paula and her staff were amazing. They decorated the room for us, supplied a karaoke, served all the guests and looked after us all. Nothing was too much trouble. The food, as ever was superb. Can’t recommend The Stainton, highly enough. Thank you Paula and your very friendly staff. See you soon.

I took my mother for afternoon tea as an early Mother’s Day treat. The food was fresh and homemade. The staff were attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. Was excellent value for money. The meals looked lovely as well. Will definitely visit again.

Our family from Manchester were visiting for the weekend and on the Saturday evening we decided we would like to go for a Sunday carvery at the Stainton inn and tea rooms as we have been several times before and really enjoyed it. I called at around 9pm and managed to book a table for 12 adults and 3 children (high chairs) for 12pm the next day.

Booked on a Groupon, food was excellent as was the service. We both had Parmo's whch were very tasty and super delicious chips, We loved the decor tastefully done, will go back.

Booked a table for three four days in advance, arrived on time to be told they had given the table to another party because they where busy and informed though I had booked a table it did not matter as it was a Sunday, they offered me a very small table right against the area the customers stood to be served, we would have had no privacy and probably got pushed and shoved as people tried to get passed. The landlady did not blink an eye when I complained her attitude was well that's the way it was, they offered us a table in the empty bar on two sticky brown tables put together in the dark and dingy area at the other side of the restaurant.

This is our local & never fails to provide good food & drink for value for money, we visited yesterday on a Groupon deal, we had 4 lovely meals; 3 ‘parmo’s’ & one gammon, service was excellent despite being extremely busy.

It’s a long time since I have visited this pub and I was pleasantly surprised how nice the restaurant looked. The only problem I found was the noise levels, due to there being no floor coverings, just laminate flooring. It was very loud at times.

Went for afternoon tea with my friend. Would highly recommend it. Wish I'd taken a photo before eating it. The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Having a cafe/tearoom myself I know how important having the right staff is. Will certainly be back when visiting friends again.

Came for the parmo groupon deal after recommendation from family. It was very acceptable food and a big thumbs up for real chips. The restaurant was very quiet but still service could have been better, it wasn’t bad but could be better. Our waitress was good but the help she got was disjointed and not quite right. Food came in dribs and drabs as did the drinks. Not sure if I will go back or not. Nice place but some improvement in service needed.

One of the best afternoon teas I have ever had. All food fresh. My friend has specific dietray requriemenst and these were met without any fuss - this was pre booked so they knew in advance, DEFINATELY going back

Tried this place for the first time as they had a groupon offer available (parmo with chips and salad)....we were brought the food but without any salad whatsoever...I asked the girl who served us why this was and was told politely that they'd been so busy that they had no salad left. Is it really possible to run out of lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumber? Curious however that 10 minutes later the customers at the next table were brought their meals complete with salad. I cant help but wonder if the customers next to us were spending more on their meal or maybe one of the staff ran quickly to the local supermarket. Wont go back!

Been twice in one week, that alone speaks volumes!! The chicken parmo is the best I’ve had in a long time, they’re mouth-wateringly delicious. My Geordie boyfriend reckons it’s THE best he’s had and he’s been to a fair few places to sample the boro delicacy. The chips are the perfect ‘chunky’ home cooked accompaniment. Sarah the waitress was a darling, looked after us on both visits and nothing was too much trouble. Oh the sticky toffee pudding also deserves a mention, done the proper way with dates (also said the Geordie) Great place you’re running Paula, you’ve got it spot on. K&A; xx

Ok, working away over in the North East, which is new territory to me. Found myself a decent hotel that was well placed and went for a walk on the second night to clear my head after a long, hard day. 10 mins in and with the semblance of civilisation homing into view, I found the Stainton Inn. I could see that there was a nice restaurant area to one side, but being on my own a lot has taught me that these can be lonely places to eat, so headed into the Bar. This was a nice open space with a few locals already in, which within 25 mins became pleasantly filled by more folks who had popped in for a Casino Evening (I was asked if I wanted to join in, which was very nice, but declined on the basis that I hate losing money #Tightwad). I was served by a friendly young lady, who I subsequently discovered was the Landlady's Daughter - Toni, who offered me their great range of Gins and helped with my food choice by identifying Parmo Chicken (Yep, it was a new one on me too) as a local delicacy. whilst waiting, Paula the Landlady came through to make sure the Casino Evening got away to a good start and I asked if I could have the TV on for the Footy, which she did with a big smile. Gin in Hand, Footy on, nice buzz around the room with guys playing poker and blackjack, my dinner turned up and I can honestly say it was HUGE!! Good advice from Toni not to have a starter (Thanks again Toni) lol. It was also very presented, freshly cooked, tasty and HOT!..if you've not had this dish (I do recommend it Btw), it is flattened Chicken Breast that is covered in bechamel sauce and cheese then Grilled (I think, but defo cooked so that the outside is crispy leaving the inside succulent with a semi-liquid sauce and juicy chicken breast). Do try it, but go with a big appetite! Took me about 50mins to eat it (I was determined not to wimp out) all, but I did clear the plate, as it was so nice. One of the local lads Dog has his eye on me though and I could tell he'd assessed me as a potential food source - Wrong on this occasion Pal! lol. I went over to say my thanks and goodnight to Paula and Toni, and was introduced to Rich, Paula's husband and the Chef. So I thanked him for the meal and complimented him, which earned me a free Gin and a pleasant conversation about life, business and Brexit for the following hour - What a great night! If you are local to Stainton do check them out if you haven't already - Great Food, Good Bar, Great People and pretty location. They will cater for all occasions including Funerals (not far from the crem by the look on the map) and I can personally vouch for the Scones cos Paula gave me one to take with me that she had made that afternoon (along with some butter and a wooden knife btw) - Paula, it was fab!..Yes, I did warm it up first and I also acquired some Strawberry Jam too :-) lol

Although we only live 800 mtrs away this is a great little pit stop for all cyclists passing through village on way to North York's Moors Great little pup with attatched tea room serving great food. Would moor than recommend this little gem

Booked for 7pm, table of 18. Preordered the food. Starters started to arrived an hour later and all starters were present by 8.20pm. At 9 pm some of the customers were told that their main meals were not available. At 9.45pm some mains still hadn’t arrived and so we left. No apology from the manager who hid behind the bar. Our party went to the bar and complained. Manager said she had been to table and apologised (she had not). Instead she had sent a waitress to take the flack from our table. Utterly appalling service. 3 hours after we booked the table we were ordering a take away.

Quite literally the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Over an hour to bring out our starters. Then another hour before they started bringing out the mains. Unfortunately for two people dining with us, they got nothing. NOTHING. One person was told after two hours of sat waiting, that they didn’t have any veggie lasagne for her. She couldn’t even have her side order of chips because they had ran out. We had all pre-booked our meals days in advance. The landlady couldn’t even be bothered to come over and apologise, the “chef” was at the bar laughing, when people went to complain.

A lovely welcome, and excellent service. Paula and Stewart pulled out all the stops and accommodated us at this busy time. Buffet was just as described, and delicious!! Thank you so very much xx

Waited 50 mins for starters to come then they were cold. In total it took 2 hours we didn't have time to eat mains so all left very hungry and disappointed.

Visited with family for an impromptu evening meal, we had the traditional Teesside Parmo & Green Thai Chicken Curry, really lovely food & value for money, service excellent.

Recently visited here for afternoon tea, i’m glad we had an entertainer voucher as I wouldn’t have been happy paying full price. We were sat right next to the speaker which was blasting music, not the ideal atmosphere for a relaxing Saturday afternoon catching up with a friend. I received a dirty cup for my tea but let this slide. The food was fine but very average - the pastries were quite well done. Scone was lovely and was my favourite thing served. Overall I wouldn’t go back here.

Booked a table for 2 people for afternoon tea. We did arrive early but felt we were being rushed they locked the doors, even though food was suppose to be still being served. If we turned up at our time i think we would of been locked out. This place as lost our costum and it has gone down a lot. There was nothing wrong with the food smaller portion than the last time and not many varieties of cakes. Didn't feel welcome with being rushed.

We ate at the Stainton Inn for lunch. I have visited before in the evening but this was my first lunchtime visit. It was quiet but that was fine. The service was friendly and the food was very nice. I would say that the price is largely typical for pub food, but that the quality is much better than most pubs.

I reviewed this pub favourably but unfortunately it's under new management Waited over 45 minutes for a chicken sandwich. In the end I asked for my money back and left without being served. I no longer recommend this pub for lunch

Just moved to Stainton and heard really good things about the carvery so we had to try it out. It did not disappoint, absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend.

We were looking forward to going here for a meal as it was highly recommended. However after very poor service on a recent Friday I would not be able to recommend it to anyone. We had booked a table for 2 for 8pm and arrived early. It took some time to be seated and we waited for menus to order. After about 25 minutes the waitress appeared to ask if I'd like the menus taking. I said that would be lovely if we'd actually had any. Very apologetic she brought some. Once we'd decided unfortunately there was no mushrooms for a garlic mushroom starter or to accompany the chosen steak. And even worse there was no chips!! I find it really hard to believe that on a Friday night there was no chips left for a meal booked for 8pm. There was only one very busy waitress available and a reasonably large birthday party in but thats no excuse. Suffice to say I shall not be returning.

Visited the stainton tonight for a meal with our friends. We all ordered starters 3 arrived after 25 minutes, mine arrived as the others were nearly finished which considering I only ordered black pudding and poached egg I don't know what took so long. Again the mains arrived after another long delay, guess what mine arrived ten minutes later. Terrible service all round will not be back any time soon.

Popped in for a meal after climbing over 5 dogs at the restaurant entrance was told it would be over a hour wait even though there was only six people in , not very hygienic and unprofessional this pub was highly recommended but don’t think we’ll be going back , disappointed and disheartening

Called in for a spot of lunch my partner had Scampy I had Lasagne have to say there wasn’t a scrap left ,this homemade food & chips were lush I would definitely recommend The Stainton for a reasonably priced tasty meal ... can’t wait to return on a Sunday apparently the lunches are to die for

I visited this lovely place with friends for a meal I hadn't been before. The service was excellent friendly and first class the food was presented beautifully I had the chicken parmo which was the best I've had my friends had steak and ale upside down pie and chicken breast we thoroughly enjoyed it we finished off with cheesecake such a lovely atmosphere and charming place. Definitely go again.

Went to the Stainton for a surprise 40th birthday meal. There was over 20 of us in total, on two separate tables. Right from the start, the staff were excellent...very attentive and welcoming. Not one complaint about the food from anyone. The pub itself has come a long way under the new owners,, and the Landlady is lovely..

Called into the Stainton Pub for coffee and cake at 2pm the place was empty we requested coffee and Cake or desert

Excellent service and so friendly, nice roaring wood burning stove added to the atmosphere. Steak was Cooked to perfection with home made chips and the Parmo,s looked delicious.

Wonderful...quiche sausage rolls good quality ham in a brioche bun, egg, cheese savoury sandwiches scone, chocolate biscuit, mini trifle, and little tarts. Plus a generous pot of tea. The room is really cosy with a log burning stove, and the quirky collection of clocks on the chimney breast . At £10 a head well worth a visit. If you want to have afternoon tea there though you must pre book.

Called in Friday night just after eight to be told we stop food at eight but the chef will not mind doing you a meal, Wish he had not been so kind. My wife had Fresh Local Cod with chips. Straight out of the freezer, and to prove it had ice inside. I had home made steak pie with mash and veg. The pie filling was fair, as was the mash, but the raw veg and unwanted chips spoiled it as a meal.

Having recently moved to Stainton we started to try the local eateries which to be honest were disappointing.....

Booked The Stainton for my 60th birthday, the staff made it a superb night catering for 20 people the food was excellent notably the 'Parmo', the service was impeccable with all the food served in a timely manner, a big thank you to all the staff at The Stainton especially Paula for organising, Jack the chef & the waitress (apologies for not knowing her name), great night, great birthday party.

Popped in one Friday night for a few drinks and a bite to eat.

After getting the craving for a Sunday lunch, we happened along this very quaint tavern with a great atmosphere.

Had an amazing afternoon tea. Beautiful fresh sandwiches in different breads, home made quiche and sausage rolls and lots of different pastries. Have had many afternoon teas, guisborough hall, crathorne hall, tontine to name a few but this was by far the best and the best value for money, would highly recommend it.

Visited for a family meal. 2 of us were vegan but there were no options in the main menu. Emailed the establishment at short notice to see if there was anything we could have. Spoke to a lovely lady called Paula who couldn't do enough to accommodate us offering some lovely vegan options. I had a delicious teriyaki stir fry with rice. I would definitely eat there again!
