Came in for food and a few drinks, staff where lovely, especially Emily. She was Very welcoming and managed to sort out a table for us even though the pub was very busy and crowded

Lovely pub. Food was excellent, and staff looked as if they were enjoying themselves. We were allowed to bring the dog which was great. Lots of TV's to watch the sport, Lad at the bar showed me how to download the app and get a free drink. Wife said the enchillada was spot on, I went for a chicken mix which was really good.

Had a meal last night, food was pretty good as usual but facilities are really awful. No central heating the whole place was freezing and everyone sat with their coats on. Gents toilet was out of order so had to use the accessible one. Table tops very dirty and greasy. Inside of windows dirty and stained. Never used to be like this, might be a long time before we go again.

For me it was awful. It was Friday night very busy some extremely loud screeching head banging music hurt my ears drone if voices mingling under the music made it hard to like. But we had little choice in getting table so we're directly under speakers. Table was a mess lot of pots etc. Looking round I saw older age groups prob mid 40s and upwards.choice of Music seemed so out of place. I'm old but young in the head I love a lot of today's dance sounds. It makes me feel alive and young again. So not against loud dance music.. This night I got a bad headache from it. We changed to a small table in corner over near window felt very hemmed in. Too close to the next one. And still very messy. We had tidied each table. Menu was one of confusion. I so get put off. Prices were very cheap so probably why it was full with today's increases across the restaurants. Wasn't happy with any of it. Got the chicken skewer that had 2 chicken sides had to pick another so chicken nuggets little jug of Jack Daniels sauce. For dipping. And chips but a very small amount even for me. So a man wouldn't be full getting this order lol. They were OK. Meals brought by staff members can't complain they were very nice and helpful. It must be hard on them. But yes had a smile. Coffee was a nice latte.

Another nice meal at the Cross last night. Bar service was slow and there were a couple of hiccups with our order but they were quickly rectified. It's a great place to catch up with friends. We often eat here and look forward to our next visit. Perhaps if bar staff are busy doing something then they should acknowledge that we are waiting.

Not nice but maybe it was due to the festive period being overwhelming for theml. Few good things: the patrons/regulars, a pool table and various seating areas.

the waiting time was really poor book for 2 pm for Christmas Dinner didn't get starters till 2,35 wait for main course was just as bad the kids where complain they where hungry witch I don't think it was right they was one girl working none stop no help until some bar staff came out very bad service

Food is abysmal if you are lucky enough to have it actually served, saw a few tables just get refunded and leave after wasting their time for a bit. Staff is rude too acting like them being understaffed is somehow my fault. just avoid.

This pub is getting ran into the ground. It needs a good scrub and definitely a lick of paint everywhere. The toilets are disgusting. There are doors that need new locks and there's been broken toilet seat behind one of the toilets forever indicating to me the toilets dont get cleaned properly. The men's according to my husband are just as bad. I live in Marton and used to go in a lot more regularly. My husband and his mates used to go in every other Thursday but now look elsewhere as judging by the taste of the pints, the lines simply can not be getting cleaned regularly l. Yes the staff are nice but why isn't simple maintenance being done. Carpets need cleaning as the place is starting to smell. My friends where in for food last night and can't believe how much this pub has gone down the swanny from their last visit. Your disappointing the locals people.

Visited on Saturday afternoon. £11.74 for 2 x Carling and a Guinness even with the Season Ticket app - prices seem to have gone up markedly in line with The Rudds Arms down the road. Dog barking loudly every time it saw another dog and kids everywhere - 1 was even riding a scooter - it’s a pub!

Poor meal today - steak fondue - normally good food in here but steak quite tough- first time had a bad meal in here so would visit again

One of the best places in Middlesbrough, very cheap prices. Yes that’s right £2.79 for a Carlsberg I know it’s abit of a sh*t beer but Carl behind the bar does something special, it’s creamy yet tangy. Also the service is incredible and and very friendly

Decent pub food at a reasonable price, Sharing chicken platter bigger than expected and the child's steak was cooked to perfection(Medium). Stopped in for family of 4 lunch, on the way to Scarborough on Good Friday and will look to stop in next time we pass.

Nothing much has changed in the last 20 years here, (50 years for my mam ha!) totally fine every now and then. Latest visit was a function and it was freezing, they don't serve coffee downstairs and the music was blasting for 1pm in the afternoon. But all adds to the nostalgic charm of the place 😅 lots of boro decor ;)

Food was not good, had chicken that looked realy old and was overcooked , dry and hard. Onion rings were hard and just short of being burnt. Never going back.

My band was booked to play a private birthday party in the function room downstairs. We thought the venue was lovely and the young lad who worked there was also very lovely and helpful. We loaded in our gear through the fire exit as we do with most of our venues. We then used the front door for the remainder of the evening until it was time to load out and we opened up the fire exit again ready to pack the car with our stuff. From then on we had lots of staff coming over insisting that we shut the door as its setting off an alarm upstairs to wake a baby. Obviously had we known this we would have been straight away using the front door and very conscious about using the fire exit from here. A very rude young lady came over almost shouting at us to close the door, which we then did, however this was proceeded by the manager coming over to shout at us further blaming us for the alarm going off all night. According to her the alarm had been set off "every half an hour over the last four hours". As I had just explained we opened the fire exit for the first time since arriving when we were ready to load our cars at the end of the night, unknowing that we were setting off a fire alarm upstairs. Very disappointed with the way we were spoken to by a couple of individuals who understandably were stressed but had no right to jump to conclusions and lash out at my band in that way. All we were doing was finishing off providing a service. I would be wary about getting on the wrong side of staff at The Southern Cross.

Food is always up to standard, good value for money

A good night was had by all at a 40th birthday bash. A good sized pub with a big beer garden and a big car park. Pretty good selection of draft beers. There was a band on for the party, Kewen and The Crosswalks. It could have done with some heat on though as it never warmed up.

Superb pub food is good and the staff is better very good chicken wings also the San Miguel is fantastic

Lovely pub with great atmosphere. We had a brilliant service from Lewis who made us all laugh and kept our drinks flowing. Told us about upcoming events and made sure we got the best seats when we returned for comedy night.

I come here every weekend! Most of the staff are excellent, especially Jess, Ellie, Tom, Ed Brad, Emily and Carl! The boss has it down to a T running this place it’s spectacular. Honestly couldn’t imagine going somewhere else! I recommend this pub to everyone it’s the best. they especially pour a good carlsberg 😍.
