The Stag's Head in Sheffield

1st visit to this establishment as it was close to The Lantern Theatre and was perfect to sample both food and drinks before the performance that night. On entry, you felt a warmth about the place, and I was welcomed by the gentleman serving behind the bar. I had already viewed the wide selection of Thornbridge Brewery Beers available before making my choice... a lovely pale ale called 'Brother Rabbit'. Whilst the beer was being poured, I asked if food was still available at 3.15pm and was politely informed that I could order anything off the menu. I didn't want anything too substantial, so I chose the Ham & Cheese Toasted Sandwich with brown bread (white bread available, too) and a side portion of chunky chips. I was asked where I would like to sit, so as it was a sunny afternoon, I picked the conservatory at the side to sit and enjoy my pint and food when it was served. Having picked a table that would accommodate two people so as not to take up other bigger tables for more customers, I enjoyed the view outside were there was a children's play area along with other tables to accommodate customers who preferred the outdoor weather. I also noticed a food preparation area where a member of staff was throwing and preparing fresh pizza dough as well as turning pizzas in an oven next to him. After about 20 minutes had passed, my food order was delivered, and boy did it look delicious 😋 Two big slices of thickly toasted brown bread with melted cheese and slices of ham with a lovely pile of thick cut chips next to it. Delicious would be an understatement, and it was certainly substantial as well. I paid £10 for the toasted sandwich and chips and £4.50 for the pint of beer, which was tremendous value. The staff were first class with their friendly, polite, prompt, and attentive service throughout my visit. I can totally recommend The Stags Head as both a pub for real ale drinkers as well as those wishing to enjoy delicious food at tremendous value... You can bring your children too with a brilliant play area outside as well, so perfect for families as well. A 5 Star Pub...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I would happily return...👍

Called in by chance and had lunch. The food was tasty, the staff friendly but the pub was cold. The food was a bit slow coming out given that the pub didn't seem busy. Would I go again, maybe.

Fuimos aquí para un almuerzo de cumpleaños familiar. Éramos cinco. Primero, hacía frío ahí. Y en los baños de señoras todas las ventanas estaban abiertas, en febrero, a temperatura exterior 3 grados. Mi madre limpió su inodoro con el cepillo antes de usarlo porque estaba en un estado. Comidas: tres personas disfrutaron de su comida. Tenían pastel de carne y hamburguesas. Mi madre y yo sacamos la paja corta. Pedimos pescado con papas fritas. Cuando llegó, el bateador estaba muy exagerado. El pescado de dentro era duro, gomoso e insípido. Los guisantes del jardín también eran insípidos y mal cocinados. A mi anciana madre no le gusta la vergüenza de quejarse, así que se comió la suya aunque me dijo que no la estaba disfrutando. Fui al bar a tomar una copa y el camarero me preguntó si nuestras comidas estaban bien. Así que le dije la verdad, que el pescado con papas fritas no era muy agradable y de hecho tan malo que no podía comer el mío y que mi madre estaba comiendo el suyo porque era demasiado educada para decir nada. Todo lo que hizo fue decir "oh perdón por eso. " Estaba enfadado porque no me ofreció una comida alternativa. Dejé todo excepto las patatas fritas. Cuando fui a pagar no me ofreció ningún descuento. Si hubiera sido más asertivo, quizás debería haberles pedido que me quitaran el precio de la comida, pero no lo hice. Estaba enojado y avergonzado. Lo peor para mí fue que el servicio al cliente aquí era terrible. No volvería ni recomendaría comer aquí.

Fuimos aquí para un almuerzo de domingo tarde con una gran fiesta (y un perro). El personal era muy amable y servicial. Habíamos pre-ordenado (el único inconveniente de una fiesta más grande), pero acomodamos fácilmente algunos platos adicionales para compartir. Buena comida, servicio rápido, eficiente y amable, excelentes cervezas (aunque las cervezas Thornbridge tienden a saber muy parecido). En resumen, un pub local amable, que también hace buena comida del pub. Ideal tanto para una pinta rápida, y una comida con amigos

Popped in here for a pint and some food before heading off to a nearby theatre. Great selection of beers and the food was very good. Great atmosphere even for an early Wednesday evening, not overcrowded. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Lovely atmosphere shame the food was below average. The flat beef burgers were served burned and crusty and the justification was that it is because they are thin! Not recommended dish .

Banging quiz with free leftover roast bits!!

Went along for a dinner and had a terrific experience with very welcoming staff. We had the honour of being cared by this handsome and elegant gentleman called William. I would really recommend to all, with excellent service for exploring various alcohol.

Así que, cuando organizamos una comida familiar en un pub Thornbridge, estaba lleno de expectación. Elegí fish and chips, pero sin sacar esta crítica, fue la excusa más decepcionante para lo que debería ser un clásico del pub británico. El pescado sobre-cocido, al borde del quemado, que en sí mismo era una porción miserablemente pequeña, se servía con cuñas de papa empapadas. ¿Cuñas de patata con pescado? ¿En serio? A great local pub with a big selection of both cask & keg beers! The food is good and served in decent portions - well worth a visit!

A nice quiet pub,which myself and Daughter visited for Lunch,nice food and reasonable prices.

It's an old pub but it's expanded and has an outdoor bar and a much seating to appeal to a younger demographic with traditional brews and newer, fruitier draught pints.

Kurt, James, Joe and the team are all very welcoming and knowledgeable about the beer and wine selection!

Food was delicious, in a chill location with a beer garden.

Great place to have some drinks

Apparently they change their menu every three months; I have always been happy with the food here but this last time I thought the lunch choices were pretty rubbish actually, very boring.

I arranged a gathering for my Zumba Gold ladies and the staff were super helpful and very accommodating. Thank you for a lovely evening

Acabamos de hacer cola durante 45 minutos para tomar 3 copas, esto tomaría 5 minutos si corrieras como un pub adecuado hay 4 personas en el bar y tienes una cola de una sola fila que va hasta la calle . . absolutamente mental, por favor, ¡detén esto! Hasta que resuelvan esto, no te molestes, ¡ve al Lescar!

6 months ago this was my favourite pub in Sheffield, now the customers that go have started to queue for the bar. We just queued for 45 minutes for 3 drinks, this would take 5 minutes if you ran as a proper pub there’s 4 people on the bar and you have a single file queue going all the way onto the street..absolutely mental, please stop this!!! Until they sort this out don’t bother, go to the Lescar!

Afternoon drinks on a Monday. Had the burger and cheesy chips, both excellent. Service outstanding, quick and friendly. Been coming here for a few years and always have a great time.

Flipping lovely roast dinner, nice staff very happy we dropped in.

Good beer (Thornbridge ales), pleasant vibe, no muzak, good children's playground outside, decent outdoor seating. Haven't tried food so can't comment, but it looked OK and was reasonably priced.

Go regularly on dog walk but seems to be running into ground. Weeds everywhere, empties left on tables outside, smell of cooking appalling and off putting when you go to bar - so bad you feel like you’re wearing it when you go outside … Sat at an outside table near toilets and smell was so bad we had to move. Such a shame, used to be great - good location but feels neglected.

Food ok ( burnt pudding), we sat in the conservatory, looks tired and run down. Staff very good.

Great beer, Great food, outside garden split in two.. One end with kids play area other just benches. Service is good and the guys and girls are always friendly even when it's 3 deep at the bar on a bank holiday. Sunday roast is really good and I don't normally say that as I make a cracking one myself apparently but I love the ones here. Since Covid, the car park is now outdoor seating. Even with the restrictions ended that's still there so should be awesome come summer with some nice pizza and beer Update 4/22: Covid clearly now released for UK and the pub has kept the outside area which is absolutely the right plan. Pizza oven is fired up and provides a lovely pizza (£8 upwards) Update 12/22 Pizza oven now off. Change in staff.. Still good. Update 5/24 The pub is back at it's best. Regular x beer events, curry nights and more. The pizza oven and outside bar are in full effect for summer and the cark park is now just picnic tables galore so loads of space. They are showing the Euros here too this summer. Whether it's the 1 screen in a tent again I don't know but it's on. 👍

Paid over £15 for a chicken roast. Really disappointed. No mash, no stuffing, hardly any gravy, measly portion of peas and half a carrot. The roast potato's were yesterdays re heated it felt. The waitress was surly...used to be lovely. Won't be back.

Dirty pub, particularly the toilets. Seriously in need of a deep clean, put me completely off my pint. Pint was ok but had a line cleaner aftertaste. Shame is there is no choice of anything other than Thornbridge on tap. Disappointing really, won’t be back again.

Really traditional looking pub. The menu looked great. Had a great duck salad, highly recommend. Service was great.

Amazing little gem Went there for our early family Christmas dinner. They are dog friendly and they also provided Christmas crackers. Staff were amazing! Food was very delicious and good amount. 6 of us with dring paid under £120. We will be back!

One of the toilets was out of order which maybe couldn't be helped but the toilet that was working was in a bit of mess with toilet roll everywhere. Not a big deal but it's just a drop from its normally high standards. We also had quite a bad experience with staff where we asked what time they stopped serving food and was told 9 and then when we tried to order dessert at 8:50 were told quite rudely, by someone who seemed to be the senior staff member, that the kitchen was shut. Again not a huge issue but it just left a bit of a cloud over a place we normally love. I don't know if there has been some changes lately or if it's just an off day but its put us off and probably wouldnt recommend to other people going forward.

Nice place. The staff are friendly. The pub is dog friendly. They even offer water for the pets, too. Nice atmosphere.

Friendly, helpful service, great food and, although there was a selection of beers with chocolate, raspberry and other young person flavours, there were a few very well kept ales that tasted of beer. Result!

First time eating here this week. The food was delicious.

The Stags Head is a great little pub but unfortunately the food fell a little short of the mark. We ordered the GF beef brisket and the Turkey Christmas Dinner on a midweek evening. Sadly both meals were luke warm and kept under the food lamps which spoiled the meal. That meant the roast potatoes were a bit tough, but the meat was nicely cooked. I also thought it was a shame that they didn’t have any of the Thornbridge GF beers on tap.

Very friendly knowledgeable staff which and a great atmosphere. Food was excellent, great value for money and good selection on the bar. Would highly recommend for lunch or evening meals with friends or family.

Excellent community local. Outside area has been improved. Wonderful, varied beer selection. Always knowledgeable folk behind the bar.

Service was okay, but you have to pay by card. COVID is over now a five pond note will not kill you. Not the cheapest beer and the range of ales at my time of visit were mostly high in the ABV dept.

A (very) brief stopover on a longish walk in and around Sheffield proper. This was a lovely stop.

So disappointing when you go out for a Sunday dinner with friends and, when you’ve eaten the poor quality meal, you know you could have cooked a far superior roast at home. The lamb was very fatty and lacking in flavour, the carrots, potatoes and kale were ok but it was swimming in weak, skinny gravy. It feels uncomfortable to be so mean but it should have been so much better. The drinks order was also mangled, a pint instead of a half, red wine instead of white…

Can't beat it for beer and food

Great Beer, great food, lovely staff.

Dinner was quite nice, but some of the staff (not all !) we’re a bit miserable and despite it saying on the menu that last food available at 9pm, when I went to ask for a desert at 8:45pm, he said “it’s too late, it’s shut”. Sure he could have checked with the kitchen if they could have rustled up an ice cream and I would have got another round of drinks. (Especially when they brought us our starter and main at the start (which the friendly kitchen staff corrected straight away and apologised for). Maybe manager needs to encourage nicer client service from one of the staff.

Great location and good food massively let down by the playground. It's very tired and increasingly dismal. Nothing has been replaced when it has broken and the equipment is now quite limited. You end up crammed in amongst bits of shredded rubber tyres next to a shabby marquee tent with barrel tables of occasional floating fag ash. It's a real shame as they have enough space to make a beautiful beer garden and play area amongst mature trees. If only they would invest.

Sausages, Mash, Bacon & Black Pudding. Can’t say much more than Perfect- Piping hot, totally delicious and Staff were as always friendly helpful polite. Would highly recommend to anybody wishing to visit

Great beer garden with play area for the little ones.

In the area, visiting family, and found this pub with a play area for our three girls. The setup is great and the food was fantastic. I normally think the kids meals are a bit rubbish, but these were great - just as good quality as the main menu (which was also brilliant). Will be trying to convince the family to go here when we're next visiting.

Big beer garden, really lovely friendly and helpful staff. Knowledge about which draughts were vegan and helped us choose. Pub quiz on Mondays is great fun.

Lovely lunch at the stags head today on my first visit, wish it was my local, real quality food and service, excellent pint too.

Good atmosphere and dogs are allowed. If snall children annoy you stay out of the conversatory.

It's a good pub with gluten free menu items and beer options. But this place gets really busy on match days, it's a convenient place to meet a walk down so you won't get a table to eat

3 of us went for dinner and all of us loved it. I ordered a fish finger butty which came on fresh crusty bread, with plenty of fresh cut chips and the fish fingers were more like small cod fillets in a light batter which was a nice surprise. Lovely staff and amazing food! Absolutely delicious.
