Fantastic pub with fantastic food. Prompt service even when busy and the staff are really friendly love stopping up here when we're out on the motorbikes. It's also a dog friendly. Doncaster Hypnotherapy Clinic

This is a really amazing place, kept as original as possible and with simple but fantastic food. The views from the outside is stunning and well worth the drive .

It's a proper country pub,proper veg ,not microwave,proper meat, proper home made pie,proper puddings ,treacle sponge ect...thing the poor reviews are from people who go to chain pubs that's dish up microwave rubbish and thats what they're used to ,so believe home cooked food is rubbish, probably live on microwave food at home too!I eat there virtually every week ,as live relatively local,great pub,not plastic ,not full of scrubber town folk,great place to get away from that !

One of my favourite pubs of all time. We have been coming to the Strines for over 20 years since we first moved to the area. A walk in the Dark Peaks isn't complete without stopping by for a drink or a bite to eat. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is lively and the landscape is beautiful. We also love the peacocks.

Lots of home cooked food on the menu which is nice to see. The food was excellent too. My only issue was the number of dogs . It was like dining in a kennel .I counted 15 dogs Yapping and whining.

visited again after a gap of few years, arrived 1:40pm on friday and they are stopped serving lunch on 2:30pm. The prices of meals are in reasonable and are lower than the other peak district pubs. still no free wifi A lovely place for food and drinks, good view and good food

Food was cold and tasteless, roast potatoes were anaemic, beer selection was awful, avoid this pub!

Was looking forward to a roast in this country pub but was like having a school dinner :( beer was very nice

Great place to meet up on motorbikes . Havent tried food but menu looked good and about the right price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Drinks were reasonably priced

A special day out. Over 45 years since we last snook in for last orders. Way back when closing time was 2200 in town. I'm pleasantly surprised. Sunday lunch to die for. It's worth every penny

Great place to stop for a drink and a meal, can recommend you dont feed the pheasant as they will be pestering for food if you sit outside.

I like this pub! The food is basic but good. The location is terrific. No phone signal but that can be a benefit too!

What a spot! To the view and the food excellent! The peacocks and sheep are a bonus! I usually don’t fancy pub food but this just tasted so homely. Thank you to the chefs for that. I will definitely be back.

This place never fails. The food is incredible. The service is always 10/10. Highly recommended.

It's just one of the places you can go all year round. In the winter inside by the log fire or outside with the peacock in the summer.

Just wanted to say how nice the staff are at this pub. A few of us did a litter pick this morning and I asked if we could use the pub car park as a base. Not only did they say yes but they offered us a coffee on the house to warm up after the pick .. such a kind gesture which is worthy of 5 stars. I’ve stopped there occasionally for lunch when cycling in that area - it’s always been enjoyable, And the view from the outside tables is beautiful

Had lunch there today lovely old country pub great food the only thing was the atmosphere it was deadly quiet would have loved a bit of background music and the fires were not lit which would have been lovely even a few candles in the fireplace would have made it cosy

Staying locally on holiday. Had a fantastic meal tonight. 1 Gammon and 2 steaks all well cooked. Will definitely be back again this week.

Popped in for lunch. First time I've been. Lovely traditional country pub. Off the beaten track, February mid-week but still quite busy. Hearty trad food. Lovely.

Really disappointing food, in agreement with previous reviews that state food doesn’t seem fresh, dry and bland lasagne, dry and chewy pie with hard vegetables. The barman was friendly enough however snide remarks by presumably a local gent made us feel unwelcome. The chips were delicious but that was the only positive of the evening, wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return

Guinness was good. Sunday roast was bland. Vegetables need a new lease of life.

Terrible roast dinner all the veg was so hard couldn't eat it beef raw and tough roast potatoes never been roasted and tasted old would not go back , spoke to the waiter he wasn't bothered been going there all my life no more

Nice atmosphere in an old pub on the moors. However, we went for the yorkshire pudding meal, which was average at best

Big car park easy to get to wheelchair access, dog friendly. Nice old pub, bit run down, views are amazing. The food was quiet bad, all our steaks was awful it tasted like liver, weird, overdone was no fresh food at all the steak and ale pie had been in the microwave as it was sweaty, this only comes from microwave use, large potatoes was raw in the middle, am scared for my stomach today 😭. I'm really disappointed we were really looking forward to it. Bar man was lovely though.

Smashing place with great views and nice surroundings. Great if you fancy a walk in stunning country side then lunch and a pint. Real fires and good food. Just what you need on a winter's Sunday morning!

Went here today after not been for years and won't be going back. If you like a nice home cooked Sunday dinner this isn't the place for you, it tasted like a heated up microwave meal. The steak and ale pie was very chewy, chicken and mushroom pie had no taste and pastry was soft like it had been heated in a microwave. Best think was the chips and fish fingers but can't really go wrong with home made chips and bird's-eye fish fingers. Definitely nothing like it used to be

Popped in for a quick drink, lovely building, menu looked good but didn't have time to stay. Looks popular as was quite busy. Left bag behind, staff found and rang us when they did. Kept it safe till next day. Lovely outdoor area. Definitely worth a stop if you're out that way.

Cenamos sobre las 18:30 sin reservar pero en poco tiempo se llenó, por lo tanto mejor reservar si vais un sábado. Se puede acceder con perro dentro aunque también tienen terraza con mucha hierba. El servicio rápido y la comida fantástica.

Wonderful place that serves wonderful food.

Called in to the Strines Sunday lunchtime on our way back from Manchester. Plenty of parking spaces even for large campervan. Three guys behind the bar were very professional and well organised, working through the queue of customers politely and efficiently. Order food to our table outside with a lovely view over Strines reservoir. The waitress was easily on a par with the bar staff, polite, chatty and caring. We all really enjoyed the food which was cooked and presented to a high standard, ribeye steak, lamb burgers and steak & ale pie. I noticed there were plenty of veggie options too. We’ll definitely be back.

Love this pub, staff very friendly, food FANTASTIC, only got 4 stars cos they didn't have Fish and Chips, which is a go to when I take my 91 Yr old auntie out for lunch. Wish I could give 4.5 as they do Guinness Zero, best zero alcohol drink around

Very tasty few meals here and enjoyed it, great beers as well. They fitted us in after a very busy bank holiday and the dog was also very comfortable!

Had a cooling drink in the huge garden after a long walk. The garden is absolutely massive and would be ample room for tents or even an outdoor event. I realise it's being refurbished, but not well signposted from the road if you were visiting for the first time..

Good place to to stop and have something to eat and a drink especially when you’re on a motorbike with the country roads. Lovely scenery, lovely place specially Pidcock to keep you happy 😃

Not the best place if your gluten free, your stuck with basically gammon or jacket potatoes but the food is spot on and you can't fault the service. Four stars is purely for lack of choice for gluten free but all pubs seem to be the same. Absolutely recommend.

Great country, Inn . no glitz or glamour, just great homemade food and a decent drink selection... all round good value! Open fires and dog friendly make it a great atmospheric old Inn!

I love this place. Me and my girlfriend go once a month and have an unbelievably good priced and portioned food. Staff are really polite. And the food is so homely it feels like ya nans made it! I’d eat here every night if I could.

After a mornings walking eating here was just what was needed. Friendly service from hospitable staff and food that satisfied our hunger. We had four different meals and all were large platefuls, pie of the day, Yorkshire pudding with beef, Yorkshire pudding with sausage and fish cakes. All washed down with Timothy Taylor’s, excellent.

Called in as had been years ago. Beautiful Inn with stunning views. Unsure if there was a problem, staff not very chatty or welcoming, maybe the warm weather, certainly not as I remembered. We decided to have a bite to eat, and again, food wasn't as I had expected from my past experience. Maybe it was a one-off 🤔 I don't live in the area.

Really lovely pub near some excellent places to go for a walk. Loved the colossal Yorkshires, I ordered one filled with chili, which was great. Outdoor area overlooks the parking lot and road, which the petrol head in me enjoyed.

The food smelt and looked amazing although it was too early to eat. Second time visiting the pub and it was amazing as always.

Fabulous old pub. Historic and with atmosphere. Wonderful food and on a lovely summer evening, great views down the valleys. This pub is just off the Snake Pass between Sheffield and Manchester. I had the giant Yorkshire Pudding with beef. I struggled to eat it all

Myself and my daughter were out for a motorcycle ride and stopped for a drink on a beautiful June afternoon, it's a very old inn with great view and lovely food and drink, oh yeah and I can't forget the peacock's

Went for a pint in the beer garden, fantastic views and a great spot to sit outside. Inside is classic pub so would also be good in winter if our walking.

Old style country pub good location loads of parking space. Decent selection of beverages and prices are okay. Didn't have any food, but the meals I saw been served looked really good well presented. Staff friendly and polite. There is plenty of outdoor seating with stunning views.

A more beautiful setting would be hard to find. Loads of parking, good beer selection and a warm welcome. Gorgeous on a summer's day (like today); wonderful in wintertime.

Didn't eat here, but have in the past. Staff were very friendly. A welcoming pub with plenty of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area.

Nice beer garden, some nice beers on tap. Food mostly good - cheese burger terrible, gammon, great with proper chips. Lots of meals come with mixed boiled veg - not so good.
