Overpriced - £4 for a very small chai latte (much smaller than a regular size take out - see photo for how it compared to a woman's foot!) It was only just about warm too. The cakes we had were nice though.

Part of the Millennium gardens complex, this is a fairly big airy cafe overlooking Arundel gate. We called in for lunch, it was busy but there were a few tables free. Food offerings are in the range of sandwiches, sausage rolls, etc and sweet treats, scones, flapjack, etc. Sandwiches are order at the counter and then it's brought out to your table. Although busy we didn't have too long to wait. Will go back for further visits.

I would really have liked to be able to have written a positive review for this place, which is so convenient for the Millennium Gallery, but was bitterly disappointed during my visit on Friday 19th January 2024. All I wanted was some quiche and a coffee for lunch, to stand me in good stead for the afternoon's viewings, but Ambulo couldn't manage it. The service was very slow, the prices high and in the end I obtained a refund for the quiche that never arrived and opted to go to the nearby Greggs instead. Do yourself a favour. Avoid this place, eat elsewhere and have a bit more time to explore the exhibits.

I ate at this cafe on 2 occasions and it's usually the same. The cafe is quiet with great seating and a view out to the street. It's on the first floor, so there aren't any stairs, etc and is easily accessible for wheelchair users. However, the staff are usually unwelcoming, with solemn faces and brusque demeanors. I brought a bacon sandwich and ate it there for my mid-morning breakfast last week. The bread had a perfume scent, which I noted after 2 bites so I stopped eating and drank my drink. After a few minutes, I had symptoms of Gastroenteritis. I would honestly never eat there again.

Very disappointing in a few ways. Extremely limited menu, very little for dietary requirements. We ordered a chip butty and jacket potato with baked beans. Some how the chip butty was terrible, unsure how to get something so simple so wrong. The bread was stale, it crumbled when picked up it was so dry. The jacket potato was hard and the beans were oddly watery. It was inedible. Museum cafes are usually such a treat and offer varied, tasty food but this one misses the mark. Take your own hot drink, the tea is over 3 quid!!! The staff were friendly however and service was quick

I visited Ambulo at Millennium Galleries regularly in its early days and was very impressed. Twice recently I’ve visited and gone away disappointed. On both occasions the only food on offer was cake or a light pastry from the counter. This was on a Saturday lunchtime. I’d been so looking forward to the Nordic bowl. The staff were curt and disinterested. Ambulo please return to your glory days. I fear it will go under very soon if not especially as the city centre is soon to be a food and drink hub. And that would be a terrible shame.

Welcome visit after our visit to Weston Park Museum. Bright and clean with a range of cold and hot food. We only wanted drinks and possibly a snack. However, to say they are family friendly does not reflect in their prices. It is the first time ever I have paid £3.25 for a tea bag! The same price for not very nice coffee. This is profiteering at its worst and spoilt what could have been a pleasant visit.

A very pleasant bright light eatery with friendly staff and a nice menu. The coffee is reasonably good if a little pricey. I've been to Ambulo both here and at Western Park Museum. Both are decent, solid cafés - fine if you're at the museum anyway, but not worth a special trip. Solid 3*. However, we went to Ambulo at the Millennium Gallery recently and were incredibly disappointed by the kids' meal deal. Usually, it's £4.50 for a sandwich, bag of Seabrook crisps, 2-finger KitKat, Cawston Press juice, fruit, and yogurt - on the expensive side, but not by a lot. This time though, we only got the KitKat and crisps, and an inferior juice, and the activity box was absent. The sandwich alone is £2.50, so we were effectively charged 65p for each of these. The fact that each retail for 30-40p is somewhat immaterial - one expects a markup - but the fact that we were charged the same for less - losing out of the healthier components - is incredibly frustrating. The worst part is that the staff didn't seem to care, and just shrugged, confirmed that there's supposed to be more, but made no offer of an alternative. If you're in the museum, do yourself a favour and head up the escalator to the Winter Garden and eat in Zooby's. You'll get far better quality and value.

Very disappointed. We booked online but arrived to find a long queue to order food and virtually no food from the menu left available. We arrived at 1250pm on a busy Saturday. The childrens snack boxes were unimaginative with sliced white bread and cheap cheese. They had sold out of the ham option. The only option available to us was soup - or chips. In desperation, we opted for soup which was served with crusts of cheap white bread. The bill came to more than £24 for 2 adults and 2 kids to have soup and snack boxes. Very disappointed. Will not be returning.

We recently visited Sheffield to meet our Granddaughter who has been studying at Hallam University. While looking around the lovely Winter Garden we noticed the Ambulo Café just beyond the Millennium Gallery and thought it would be a good place to have lunch and a chat. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful with just a little music in the background. Our orders were taken and paid for at the counter and brought out to our table. Between us we had a Chip butty, a Grilled Italian Flatbread and an Almond Croissant plus a pot of tea each served in nice blue matching cups. Everything we had was really nice, the flatbread was very tasty, the chips were amongst the best we have tasted and the Croissant was so light and fluffy. I would definitely recommend Ambulo to anyone looking for a nice place to have a light lunch, tea or coffee while visiting Winter Garden or The Millennium Gallery.

The staff who was taking my order at the till seemed to be new and didn’t seem to know how to use the till properly because she asked her colleague for advice. I ordered the Eggs Royale which costed £10.50, not the cheapest Eggs Royale I must say but it tasted nice. The canton earl grey which costed £2.50, was a standard earl grey tea. The local ham was delicious but the hollandaise was very strong in mustard, overpowering the eggs. Also, the plate arrived with water on it from the eggs and neither egg was properly cooked - oddly the second one was even less cooked than the first. If you are going to do all day brunch, then cooking eggs properlyis is essential. The service was adequate but not particularly friendly, which is unusual for Sheffield. We ordered our food and mine arrived in 15 minutes whereas my friend’s was half an hour for avocado on toast (?). Then she realised there was coriander in avocado mixture and on top of the toast as well, which is disappointing because coriander has such a strong and awful taste for people who hates it. On top of this, this isn’t mentioned in the menu at all, so if you order an avocado toast be prepared to eat lots of coriander. When mentioned, they offered to change it, but the second plate was exactly same avocado spread mixed with coriander minus the coriander on the top! They forgot to bring order of my other friend’s, when arrived an hour later, poached eggs were solid eggs and avocado was still the same mixture even though she said no coriander either! It was a disaster.

Visited for brunch with my husband. Plenty of empty tables, so easy to get seated. They no longer have table service, which is super when your clock watching. Ordering was simple. Coffees were brought to the table and there are amples of bottled water to...

An absolute disgrace, drinks were cold and tea was like water, customer service was dreadful, they were rude and wouldn't stop staring at us, i felt very uncomfortable, would not reccomend but the museum is very good and worth a visit, not the cafe though.

Food was ok, but quite expensive and small sized plates. Kids menu not great. Staff were a bit abrupt. Truly dreadful iced coffee. All in all, not impressed.

I have got a friend of mine who's been going in there and spending silly dollars for the past few years and never had any issues with nobody at all last Sunday around 2pm he tried to go in there with his mate as the manger saw him she came out straight away before he walked in and said your banned from here can't come in nomore as he tried to asked her what's happened she just ignored him and walked back in If your barring someone it's gotta be a valid reason and your have to tell this person the reason your can't walk away thinking your going to get away with it and if your in a bad mood go home don't come to work and take it on people Bear in mind without a customer's your as a manger wouldn't have a job and none of the staff will do I have had escalated the case to the customer support and hoping they going to resolve this issue soon and sack the manger who caused me bare upset

Very polite and friendly people. Came here for a carvery with ladies from my rugby and I had a blast - great environment. Ordered a carvery - had two rounds & a desert for about £15 bargain & a half, loved the music too. The people working - Johnny Lennie, Louise, George, Ben, Lenny and Sue - are amazing people !

I am a fan of Thornbridge Brewery's award-winning beers, especially Lukas and Green Mountain, which for me, are some of the best on the market. So, when we arranged a family meal at a Thornbridge pub I was full of anticipation. I chose fish and chips, but without drawing this review out, it was the most disappointing excuse for what should be a British pub classic. The over-cooked, verging on burnt, fish, which in itself was a miserably small portion, was served with soggy potato wedges. Potato wedges with fish? Really? Come on, people, it should be chips as in 'fish and CHIPS'. There is a hint in the name. The mushy peas were adequate, but what on earth was rocket doing on the plate? You don't serve salad leaves with fish and chips. Ever. My wife and boys enjoyed their burgers, but the overall experience, for me, was very disappointing. I am all for chefs experimenting with new ideas, but you don't need to re-invent the wheel when it comes to something as basic as fish and chips. I shall not be eating here again.

Fantastic old pub featured in Camra’s heritage pubs book. Beer selection on the smaller side but a great space.
