We had been told it was really just a locals' pub, and not to expect too much. However the service was friendly, beers were good and the steak and ale pie was delicious, with huge piles of peas and chips.

Lovely friendly pub - nice basic food. Unfortunately very limited for gluten free with Jacket potatoes or Steak and chips as options. My grandson had a home made lasagne and my husband had chicken curry- they both really enjoyed their meals. I had a jacket potato which was ok- as good as a JP can be. We did love the pub though, really cosy and welcoming on a miserable night.

This really is how a pub should be. Went in today (despite living a few miles away have never been in) just for a few pints to celebrate dad's 75th birthday. A friendly welcome, a great range of beers (seven real ales I counted), cosy, buzzy feel and a lovely unpretentious atmosphere. Like there's a dart board. And a fruit machine. This isn't gastro-ville. But it's honest and I love that. A lovely mix of locals supping at the bar and families and other folk enjoying Sunday lunch. There's not many village pubs left like this. And they should be cherished. A gem. Will be coming back for the food.

Great rustic pub/restaurant and b&b. Fantastic welcome from the Landlord - really comfortable twin-bedded room, spotless bathroom - and all decorating looked almost new. Bar offered a good range of beers/lagers/cider at reasonable prices. A menu that covered all tastes provided us with a top notch steak, chips and trimmings - and an excellent battered fish/chips with accompanying season vegetable. Breakfast was huge - offering fresh fruit juice, cereals, and then a magnificent ‘Full English’ platter.... unlimited toast/butter/marmalade/jams to follow... all washed down with as much tea/coffee as we could drink. Will definitely be visiting again. Such helpful staff were a credit to the Owners. Thank you . Davidj

This isn't a five star hotel and it does not pretend to be. It is a 'local' of which so many are disappering. I spent the night here in a warm and comfortable room. I had a fine home cooked chicken curry and a couple of pints of very good bitter with my dinner. Breakfast in the morning was well cooked and there was lots of it. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. If I'min the area again, putting up at the Stags Head will be my first choice.

The beer is good with a wide choice. The food is of a "home made" variety and is good and tasty. The local "opposition", The King's Head, is attractive but fails to deliver good food. Didn’t have a booking but called in with a couple of friends. Small lounge with not much room, but very quiet. Very old building with lots of history. Lovely staff. Good menu. Best pastry ever on the pie and four different lots of fresh veg cooked to perfection. Generous portions too. Lasagne was just right too, also home made. Will definitely be going again soon. This is not fast food, expect to wait, but it’s freshly cooked and worth it.

We didn't stay, we popped in for dinner after reading the Google reviews and we weren't disappointed. At first we struggled to find the restaurant having missed the door for the Lounge Bar.Once seated, we found the bar staff all super friendly, we enjoyed mains which were hearty and home cooked. The cottage pie came with extra gravy which was a nice touch and the all day breakfast was scrumptious! All in all, a fantastic meal which we nearly missed out on for not reading the signs!

Have been to this place several times with a group of friends and each time have been put off by attitude of male bar staff in response to simple request to dispense my pint without the sparkler attachment. I have had various excuses why they could not varying from ' it's a legal requirement' and ' it's pub policy' to the latest ' to avoid cross-contamination', 'from what?' l asked.... ' it's not coming off -end of!!!!' was the clincher. So despite the age of the place, old world charm and courtesy is lacking from this chap. I will now avoid this place and go to a more friendly Cotswold pub where they can do this simple service or don't find the need to use this artificial device to spruce up their beer.

Had lunch with friends after trawling Trip Advisor for a pub halfway for travel. Table was nicely presented and we were shown both A La Carte and daily specials. We all decided on the ‘over 65s’ two course lunch ... and at £6.50 ... a real steal! There were two ‘roast’ choices ... lamb and chicken ... both were excellent. Four veg, three potato preparations, Yorkshire pud ... all extremely well presented ... and plentiful. Dessert was just as good. We had either banana splits or apple pie .... with either cream or ice cream ... and ‘yes’ on weekdays .... it really does cost only under £7.00. We shall definitely return. Many thanks to the staff

It was like stepping back in time to the bad old days. Stopped off here for lunch on a drive to Birmingham. Nice looking pub. Ordered drinks and grabbed a menu. Normal pub stuff on the menu. I ordered scampi and chips , my wife ordered a jacket potato with chilli. After a 45 minute wait the food turned up. It was definitely from the Iceland range! Frozen rubbish chucked on a plate. The salad that should have come with mine was absent. My wife asked if her jacket potato came with a side salad and was told it did , what it actually came with was a quarter of a tomato and an inch wide piece of rocket! The staff seemed like nice enough guys and girls but were more interested in discovering who was the most drunk last night. A gent on another table had to order bread three times before if arrived. I also notice a chip drop on to the floor as a meal was being brought out. The guy delivering the meal saw it drop and made sure he did not step on it as he made his way back to the bar , picking it up did not sem to be an option! Will not be returning.

This is my brothers local, so whenever we visit on Saturday, we repair here to put the world to rights. I can only comment on the beer, as I have never tried the food, except scratchings, crisps and nuts, but whenever a plate passes, it looks like reasonable pub fare. It is a low ceilinged well-used pub - I remember the thick fug of cigarette smoke that used to permeate the ceiling and walls before smoking was mercifully banned. There are a couple if wooden tables outside the front door, which are usually hijacked by smokers, but if and when there is sun, they make a pleasant vantage point. Otherwise smokers can go into the back courtyard where the 'outside' loo is and get a little shelter. There is a good range of real ales, and an active bunch of locals propping up the bar on Saturday afternoons. They like to watch the horse racing on the large set in the corner of the main bar, but there is an annex where families and couples can sit. The landlord of many years Colin, has handed over to his daughter, but still appears regularly to chat to his old friends and clients. This is an old fashioned village pub, that has resisted the modern transformation to bistro bar, and long may it last.

And when I asked about a draught cider for the missus, they had a choice of two! Lovely old fashioned local pub with good selection of beers, decent menu with decent sized portions and not too costly. Yes it could do with decorating and the outside toilets would make a VIctorian workhouse look like a step up but this is a welcome oasis in a desert of faceless corporate chains.

A little gem lovely home cooked steak and ale pie a real antidote to bland average over priced hotel food. Well worth the drive for a couple of miles.

Cosy locals pub for a nice pint of real ale in an intimate couple of rooms around a well provisioned bar.

Having travelled for many hours, the Stags Head proved to be an oasis during a busy day. We stopped just in time for Sunday lunch which proved to be a good decision. The three courses were all enjoyed and the roast was particularly good. A fine selection of well kept and keenly priced ales all added to the enjoyment. So, if you're passing, it's well worth popping in.

Stayed at the Walton hotel for fee days and needed to escape for an evening. Bar man recommended the stags head, small family run pub with history. Good home cooked food with good atmosphere, at reasonable price. Did not disappoint ..

Food was ok but portion sizes a bit small and dirty table matts. could be so much better than what it is. its in the centre of a beautiful village but just needs to go up a notch on the food front and I didn't like having my drink from a can in a pub!

How often do we look further afield only to easily overlook what's on the doorstep? This is a perfect example. The Stags Head is a very 'local' pub and classic with it. The building itself sports a thatched roof and original features including exposed wood frame on the inside. They serve a great range of beers and traditional ales as well as a large range of beers, wines and spirits plus a range of coffees too.Recently they launched a new breakfast service from 8am. It just had to be done!!The 'Staggering Breakfast' was a great choice, especially if you're hungry. But there are different options. The quality of the food and service is excellent and the atmosphere is great. If you're either local or travelling through, it comes highly recommended.

Popped into the pub, not been in for a good 15 years as moved within Warwickshire. Took an odd turning from stocking up the meat and veg at nearby farm. Glad I did. Landed by default at the pub. Lovel

Filthy filthy food - why would you serve kebabs in the wonderful English countryside. Especially given the pub is in the middle of nowhere, you wouldn’t give it a second chance. Kebabs on the menu wit
