The Red Lion at Claverdon in Stratford-on-Avon

It was a very disappointing experience- not a good prawn cocktail at all - about 4 large prawns -lettuce not shredded & a couple of tiny tomatoes The steak & ale pie was poor - more pastry than contents & the cabbage wasn’t finely cut - a few thick stalks

I've popped in for a quick pint, and I lost my wallet. Quick phone call and they found it!! All was in place, so 5* is a must.

The best fish & chips, delicious. Will definitely be back tobtry the rest of the menu. Staff were really attentive, but not overly so. Highly recommended 👌.

Third visit to this lovely pub and it never disappoints! We come from out the way especially to eat here as the food is always delicious. Visited this time on a Sunday afternoon for a Sunday Roast, family of four. The girls had a roast each while me and the lad tackled the Ultimate Roast! All meals were absolutely fantastic and we all left full and satisfied. You are definitely not short on food portions. The staff go out of their way to make sure everyone enjoys their experience whilst visiting this gem of a place. Although busy, nothing is too much for them. Having this type of service only enhances the experience of your visit. A really great place that I highly recommend, might be the best Sunday roast I have ever had! Well done Red Lion!

Went here for a quick stop gap on route to Brockley from Redditch, it was along the route and looked lovely from the road, the pub was great inside, the staff friendly and the outside area really nice to sit in and soak up the view! The toilets were lovely and clean too, I’ll definitely be back for a bite to eat as the menu looked good.

Really loved this place, good food, great atmosphere, friendly and all round excellent on what I believe was an opening night of sorts for new owners, I might have that wrong, so it was much busier than normal with a lot of support from locals. Really enjoyed it.

A really well run pub/restaurant with excellent food and well kept beers. Have used it several times previously and always enjoyed the experience but last night it was excellent. Initially there was a mix up with the order but this was quickly rectified with the bar staff and manager making sure we were happy with the outcome. Both myself and my partner had the Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and flatbreads, which was excellent, nice succulent chicken (and plenty of it) with fluffy rice. The beer was kept in excellent condition (Butty Bach) and the service was prompt, polite and very helpful. We will undoubtedly visit again when we are in the area, a lovely night and an excellent experience.

First time here and the food was excellent. Busy which is good, I was with a group of abt 10. I was there for abt 2hrs, service was slower but it does take longer for group service. Payment at the end was very well organised. Definitely worth a visit!

We all had different main meals but all agreed not the best, I had the pie and mash, the pastry tasted old and not fresh at all, mash and veg was okay. Place wasn't busy so no excuse for poor food, on a positive note the beer selection was good and the real ale was a good pint.

We ate here early last evening with a friend visiting from Yorkshire who is used to eating good food in old pubs with great ambience and friendly staff. We very much wanted him to enjoy his first visit to us in Claverdon. Having had previous mixed experiences with quality of food, we hoped for a good evening at the Red Lion. The usually friendly staff were unfriendly, appearing unhappy to be on a midweek evening shift. We hoped that might improve but it didn't. We hoped the food would recover the situation but unfortunately it was poor and although we are local with no other food option at the moment, we will not be visiting for dinner again. Sunday Lunch is by far the best option. We apologised to our friend. It was all very embarrassing and very unfortunate.

Early Sunday lunch, not at all busy. Ordered Ultimate Sunday lunch ( min 2 people to share. Traditional Sunday lunch with Beef, Lamb& Chicken. No Lamb served ? but beef was gorgeous. Also should come with cauliflower cheese, non served. Explained this to our waitress. She took our cheapest drink(£5 beer) off our bill Not really satisfactory, won’t be returning better value and service around. Disappointing. Ian C

Lovely staff. Good location. Below average food. My burger was overcooked and overly salty.

Nice but not gastro standard but OK. I had garlic mushroom as a starter , nice mushrooms but swamped in a garlic cheese sauce. Left the sauce. Cesear chicken salad was good but all the salad was, was lettuce ,a bit boring and i felt expensive. Would normally expect croutons and an egg, could easily be more appealing. Also there was no orange juice available. Would I recommend yes ,but we won't go again.

We have been to this venue about 8-10 times now and everytime the food just keeps getting better! Great friendly staff Very fast service Great for a quick pub lunch and great for a meal out ! Highly recommend !

Lunched on a Sunday at The Red Lion & the Parking was excellent. A party of 6, were given a round table next to the door to the garden area. It was a windy & cold July day & with the door being opened & closed every couple of minutes it felt like we were eating in a Wind Tunnel. In hindsight we should have asked to move but the inside was rammed & the outside cold. Whilst the service was good & friendly the food was average. From our experience, probably best stick to a Sunday Roast. Realise the venue has to maximise Covers but if you visit make sure you avoid the round table near the garden door.

We are never disappointed when we come here, and are always made to feel extremely welcome. The staff went out of their way to find us a quiet spot so my dad‘s hearing aids weren’t challenged by the buzz. Great service and excellent food as always.

Have eaten here many times and the food is usually excellent although wait times can be very long in the evening. Ordered fish and chips and I almost sent it back - the fish was a very small portion and all dried out. We were in a hurry by then so I didn't send it back but it was disappointing. We haven't been there since but will give it another try at the weekend.

I’m We found this little gem of a pub after a day out in Hatton farm . Everything was amazing , service , food came out quick , nice and hot . The steak was tender cooked to perfection . We will be 100 percent be visiting this pub again and would. highly recommend it to anyone passing . Well done guys

Had a lovely hour or so with friends in one of those constantly changing and evolving, impromptu get togethers. I didn't buy anything as others went to the bar, but the servers that bought drinks n food out were nice. Great chips and the other food smelled good. We sat outside in the garden, where they have a pergola with a (broken) plastic roof, but it didn't rain until we left so it didn't matter. A good atmosphere and fun was definitely had.

Very slow service, I had the fish and chips, and regulated not sending back it had been under the heat lamps for very long time as we had to wait for over an hour for food to come out, Frozen chips and fish not at all Fresh, I was mad with myself for not complaining about it, one of the party did send there food back 🤢🤢🤢

Wow! Simple wholesum fresh food. Desserts were to die for! Execellent service. Will certaintly return again in the summer months and sit outside.

First visit and went for lunch. I had the fish pie with buttered mixed greens. It was absolutely beautiful and a good sized portion too. For dessert, I had bread and butter pudding with custard. Again, delicious. Cannot fault the food, the staff or the service. A lovely place to visit. Thank you for a really first class experience.

First time visiting we didn't book we just popped in hoping they could get us in... so glad we did the food was amazing we all had the roast and it was the nicest Sunday dinner I have ever had eating out 😋 it's not overly expensive either..you pay for what you get. Definitely will be a new favourite of ours happy to drive the 40 minutes from home for the next best thing to a homemade roast

They get your order wrong, advertise you get all the trimmings on your roast when you don’t, you get some shredded basic red cabbage, even when you tackle them about it they ignore you ! Absolutely disgusting management team

New Years Eve at the Red Lion was just great. Lovely food, great service, organised fireworks and a bit of music and dancing. Lady behind us decided to have a row with Becci which was completely unnecessary and she was exceptionally rude and argumentative. It didn’t spoil a great night for us bringing in 2024! Happy New Year and we are looking forward to our next Sunday roast 😜

Glad that we decided to eat our Christmas meal at The Red Lion. All 5 courses were delicious. The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was lovely. The whole experience helped make our Christmas Day perfect.

The sharing roast was incredible. Service was good but dropped off a bit after we'd had our mains - we had to go ask for the dessert menu, bill, and card machine.

Fabulous pub with great staff- friendly but not intrusive. Food delicious. Prices are reasonable. We've been there 3 consecutive nights! Easily worth 5 stars.

I booked boxing day meal put £10 down but beware you don't get it of bill , but much say food was really good food shame about bill at end.

Had breakfast here today with my wife. This was our local back in the early 70s and it was our first visit back there together since then. Great changes, and all positive. Breakfast was excellent. I had The ‘Red Lion’ and my wife opted for the small breakfast. Both were delicious, and great value for money. Cappuccino was far better than from the coffee bar chains. Service was good and very friendly. Definitely going back, as we have moved back to the area.

The pub is cosy and welcoming - loved the open fire in the bar area and the background music. Service was friendly and attentive. Plenty of variety on the menu and we really enjoyed our food. Good quality and well presented. Would definitely return.

Lovely pub in the Country, we have been many times especially with the previous owner. This in my opinion now falls in to the pub food bracket and not restaurant. Down to pubs closing this is becoming a hub for the locals, which is great, but noisy for those dinning . Some soft furnishings , tables with lit candles and so on may help. Great menu with so much to choose from. I eventually chose the spicy chicken burger which was huge & beautifully cooked & very juicy & crispy skinny fries were so good 👍...served with coleslaw, which could do with less mayo in it. Great location and view & lovely staff too.

New menu which is totally overpriced and underwhelming food quality. Waited over an hour from ordering our food to be served and restaurant was nearly empty. Over £22.00 for a rack of ribs which I sent back. Quality of the dish was very poor. Been here a few times and enjoyed the experience but now price has escalated but food quality gone down.

I had heard great things about the Red Lion, so I chose it as a place for my partner and I to meet up with a couple of friends over dinner. The front of house staff were very welcoming and polite. Our orders for food and drink were taken promptly. The décor is nice and cosy inside, but the tables are quite small (it was difficult to fit drinks, sides and mains within the small space easily). Also the bench seat I was sat on became quite uncomfortable after sitting on it for an hour or so. The lighting was very dim inside the restaurant, which made the tiny print of the menu difficult to read. But the very attentive front of house guy noticed I was using the torch on my phone to make the print more readable, so he quickly switched on a nearby up-lighter lamp. A nice touch. The menu had changed from what was posted on the website. A couple of the dishes that we had been looking forward to sampling (Scallops starter, Meat Feast Pizza, Hunters Chicken main) were nowhere to be seen on the menu. However, the lovely and accommodating waiter managed to get the chicken dish cooked for my partner, which was very much appreciated. The food was okay. They just need to update the website menu to avoid disappointment. Unfortunately our evening was marred by a couple of excitable noisy children who were sat with their dad on the adjacent table. The father was totally oblivious to the volume of their constant shouting and the effect it was having on other diners; especially as it was interspersed with ear-piercing screams at regular intervals. One of the little darlings enjoyed an impromptu jumpy-up-and-down dance next to our table as he squealed with joy and egged his brother on to stand on a chair. Sadly the front of house staff didn’t seem too concerned that their restaurant had become a children’s adventure playground, so I had to ask the father to keep the children quiet. This gave us a five minute reprieve, until the kids took on a few more E numbers and ramped up the screaming again. I know that customer behaviour is beyond the control of the management, however it would have been better if the father had been asked by a member of staff to address his unruly children, rather than leaving it up to a customer to confront him. It’s such a shame as the Red Lion will be forever etched on my memory as being akin to dining in a crèche.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Good beer comfortable surroundings, dog and child friendly. Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes and meat all of a high standard and like home cooking. Good beer, will be going again.

The ultimate roast on a Sunday is fantastic!

We went for lunch today, Thursday, after a local walk and couldn’t fault anything! The food was excellent and incredibly good value, two courses for £13.95, and the service was brilliant- we chose a beer that wasn’t currently on tap but the barman/waiter put it on tap for us, superb service. We’ll definitely be going back!

Advertise a cocktail menu - outside and at the bar stating you’re doing cocktails then when trying to order one, there not available as short staffed yet restaurant is quiet. Having had a 3 course meal here then not being able to have a cocktail is just poor.

Randomly came across the pub when looking for lunch close to the M40. A local pub had no kitchen open so The Red Lion was next and we were not disappointed. Pleasant location to eat outside, staff were excellent and the food particularly good. Would stop again when travelling in the area.

What a great find. Something for everyone and the most expansive gluten free menu I have seen for a long time. Service was a treat and is dog friendly for those that need it.

Absolutely fantastic! We are a group of families who all have a child with an ultra rare condition - Bohring-Opitz Syndrome. There have been approximately 350 diagnosed in the world, but sadly, only approximately 250 are still alive. We have our Annual UK BOS meet up at Hatton Park, and had a meal at the Red Lion last year, when they accommodated us all, including wheelchairs at very sorry notice, and the service was amazing, as well as the food! So much so that we decided to go again this year. The staff were amazing, and the Chef accommodated all of our meals as requested. We will definitely be going back next year!

We went for lunch on Saturday 29/07/23. The service was poor and the staff were miserable. We spent £112 on lunch for three of us. Both portions of chips were over-cooked.

A 1 off visit but if i was ever in the area again i would go here again. Food great & good value.

I was starting on a walk with a friend from Claverdon and we popped into the Red Lion for coffee. It opens at 10 am and we were made most welcome and enjoyed a delicious flat white in the garden if this delightful pub It is my intention to make a return visit to have lunch here in the near future

Really good food, had the beef Sunday lunch and the meat, potatoes and vegetables were all freshly cooked (no freezer to fryer) and delicately seasoned to perfection. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A really lovely experience with beautiful views, we will back.
