My daughter and I made a last minute booking for dinner. I opted for the full rack of ribs from the specials board which were absolutely amazing. The sauce had just the amount of 'zing' without being too powerful and the meat just fell off of the bone. My daughter's lasagne was well presented and very flavoursome. Special mention to our lovely waitress Ophelia and barman Jacob who were very attentive and friendly.

Sunday lunch was really disappointing. The place is lovely, the staff were friendly and there were locals eating which is always a good sign. Sadly for us the roast dinner was very poor. The roast potatoes were hard and tasted as if they were old ones reheated. The beef was the same, hard and seemed re- heated. The horseradish made it edible but as a Roast dinner lover, this was sadly disappointing. I’m not usually a negative reviewer and would like to add that others who ate from the standard menu seemed happy with theirs, so it could just have been a one off thing.

From the beginning with all the planning until the end we had the most amazing time. All of the staff were extremely attentive everything we needed we had, the atmosphere was relaxed and filled with happiness. We have had so many positive and wonderful comments about our chosen venue, I wouldn’t have wanted it anywhere else, thank goodness the dance floor was big enough it was never empty and enough room to stage a 5 piece band. Lots of nooks and crannies for our guests to take a breather. All in all in was perfect ! so thank you to Rob Mia and all of the staff that made our day unforgettable. We will keep returning for our Sunday lunch because that’s rather good also

At lunch time today I met a work colleague for lunch at The Stag at Maidwell, and it was a delightful experience. The sandwiches were freshly made with soft, fresh bread and accompanied by a crisp side salad, plenty of filling—simple yet satisfying and very reasonably priced. The pub has a lovely traditional charm, with a convivial atmosphere that made our lunch even more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming vibe. Although it was my first visit despite living locally, I'm already looking forward to returning. The fish and chips at the next table looked outstanding and will be my choice next time!

We chose the stag to host a celebration for near 40 family and friends for lunch and drinks on Sunday afternoon. Rob & team were absolutely fantastic providing us a huge amount of space in the marquee in the garden. The staff were extremely accomodating of last minute food choices (and guests!) and the food service was super efficient, especially given the number of people. We had a fantastic time and our guests have been commenting on how good the food and venue were. The portions were huge, hot, and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend the stag, thanks Rob & team for your hospitality!

I attended The Stag for a wedding reception, my review isn't anything to do with the wedding party itself as everything done by the bride was amazing. My review is solely based on the pub. The food at lunch time was delayed by a few hours even though staff made a note of who hadnt arrived and to hold the orders back and orders between each table was very staggered. Dinner time buffet food was meant to be at 430 for children, it came out nearer 7 o' clock. When lunch finally arrived my lasagne tasted like vinegar, someone on my table had fish and chips, the fish smelt and tasted rancid, clearly not fresh, sausages and mash had a light blonde/ white short hair in it bearing in mind i have dark hair and my partner has none. Lemon meringue tasted awful, texture wasnt nice, cheesecake tasted gritty. Staff not very friendly and were rude, one member of staff asked an elderly man (who has dementia) if he needed anything he said no and carried on walking and she scrunched her face up, regardless of who the customer is there was no need for the face expression pulled. I paid £20 for a sausage and mash and a childs ice cream, just to note on the menu its £9 for sausage and mash and £4 for any desserts, so an additional £7 was paid which in no way seemed justified for the quality and service we recieved and to told it was that price regardless of paying for a child of adult. Choices of drinks are very small, wine tasted like vinegar (i have had both wines before and they didnt taste like that previously) nor was the white wine chilled. The pub itself is very dated

We had booked for 7.15 and eventually got our food at 8.10 due to a large birthday party and the staff apologised profusely and that was really no problem to us - just had a good chat with our friends. I ordered the sirloin steak on the rare side of medium rare and it was slightly overdone but was very nice and tasty. My only complaint would be the cost of the accompanying condiments £3.85 for pepper sauce and there was no gravy on the plate - makes the problem in the press regarding Rick Stein charging £2 for gravy pale into real insignificance. I did not see the price before I ordered it - my own fault, but as I said it was a nice meal and I would recommend the pub to anyone but just avoid the extras

Stayed for one night bed and breakfast and had a evening meal and was very well welcomed by Rob and his staff. Meals were very good and all staff will go out of their way to help you. It is not the Ritz and the prices reflect this, and the owner is doing his very best in these challenging times. Two tips, you may find you can not book in until 5.00pm and in this hot weather take a fan to help sleeping! Nice to go somewhere from here and have a large car park to come back too and have a pint!

Pre-pandemic our group of friends would meet at the Stag for Sunday lunch. We decided to do so again, after three years of Zoom meetings, especially as two of our friends were driving up from Somerset and we hadn't seem them in person for 30 years! Trying to organise a group of nine isn't easy, but Rob at the pub was very patient and accommodating as we emailed back and forth. We were seated in a quiet part of the pub (away from the Women's World Cup match). The food was very good and the girl who served us was efficient and friendly. We all chatted non-stop - apart from eating - for four hours. It was great fun and we will go back to the Stag again. Would highly recommend.

My wife booked our overnight stay for the 5 men of the family after being at Silverstone for qualifying on Saturday and to return for the race Sunday. 45 minutes from Silverstone which is perfect as we live 2 hours away. Set in amazing countryside we arrived to a beautiful old building of a pub with a warm welcome from the staff. Our rooms were nice and clean with comfortable beds. The evening meal was very good especially after eating rubbish all day at Silverstone. The steak and ale pie is a winner and dessert was just as good. Breakfast was excellent with great coffee and set us up a treat for race day. Had a nice chat with the owner Rob before breakfast which considering how busy he is has to be respected. If we ever go to Silverstone again or if I’m ever visiting this part again , The Stag will save me the trouble of having to look elsewhere. Thank you very much to adding to our excellent F1 weekend.

We stayed as a couple at the Stag for 1 night as a stop over to visit family. Our room was on the ground floor and was very quiet and clean, towels, tea and coffee making facilities were included. The room was small but contained everything we required. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed an evening meal in the bar which was well cooked and plentiful and served by friendly staff. Our evening was made very pleasant by talking to the locals whilst sharing a bottle of very good red wine. Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked, plentiful and delicious it was served in the bar area by friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. I would strongly recommend an overnight stay here if you like good food, good company, friendly staff and good basic clean accommodation.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the food was delicious and home cooked with lots of options on the menu. I had steak and ale pie, my mum had fish and chips- the portions were generous meaning we did not have room for dessert (which is a shame because the dessert menu looked fab too!). In an era where pubs are trying to rebrand as expensive gastropubs or microwave meal chain pubs, this was a breath of fresh air. After approx 10 minutes our orders were taken, 4 Starters, 5 Roasts, after a 25 minute wait we enquired about starters, the young girl apologised went to check and said they were just coming, 10 minutes later they arrived. After tables were cleared we sat and we sat watching lovely meals going past to the tables that were previously empty! At 3.30 we decided to give up and go without lunch, we went to the bar to pay for the staters and the Barman seemed shocked we hadn’t eaten, he did apologise and only charged for 2 starters, not really the point when you are hungry. Staff fine seems the problem may be the kitchen

Have been to The Stag previously for lunch and was looking forward to sharing dinner with 5 friends. The food was good for all of us but the service was dreadful. We had starters and main course in a reasonable time, but when it came to dessert we had to enquire after 30 minutes when dessert would be served and were informed it was coming (no apology) At 7.40 pm we ordered coffees and again had to ask after approximately half an hour when we get these coffees and were told by the person I presumed was either the manager or owner that he was waiting for the coffee to come through (again no apology). The young waitresses either needed more training or more support from their employers as they were pleasant but hand to go and ask someone every time we asked them a question. When we enquired at 8.30 pm again about our coffees she went off and came back saying they were coming. At this point we cancelled the coffees and asked for the bill which came immediately!! The owner/manager did not come to speak to us to give an explanation just left the poor waitress to deal with us. He has obviously not heard of leading by example. Good manners and good service are an essential in any establishment and unfortunately we received neither tonight. Value your customers and your members of staff is all I can advise.

Dreadfully slow service ! Such a shame as the food was good. 40 minutes for dessert and 1 hour for coffees. When asking the manager where the coffee were his attitude was dreadful. We cancelled them after an hours wait, no apology, no explanation nothing from him. We spent £170 tonight and they simply couldn’t care less ...... all 6 of us would never return. If he doesn’t care about customers then good luck to him in a service industry led business

My Son took us to this pub, to celebrate Mother,s Day, and he picked a very good venue. We had 4 different starters, and 4 different main courses, ans all four of us enjoyed our meals.

We stopped in for drinks and lunch on a sunny afternoon. The garden is a lovely suntrap, well kept real ale with original and interesting choice, varied menu, delicious food, well priced. What's not to like? We'll be back.

We were very tired after a long day, and were diverted by bad traffic to pass through this village, where we spotted the Stag. It looked so promising that a few days later we made a special detour on the way home to call in on the chance of a meal here. We were not disappointed. Although the place was obviously pretty popular and was fairly fully booked they found us a nice table for two and we had a delightful meal served by very friendly waiters. It was mainly local produce, and was extremely tasty. Later we realised that had the restaurant been actually full, we could have eaten in the bar area, and taken our dog in with us. Dogs are not allowed in the Restaurant part. There is a lovely large car park, and it is a very pretty very old building, beautifully kept. I would highly recommend it to anyone - and make a point of passing even if your route does not naturally take you down the A 508 from Market Harborough to Northampton.

We went there today (22nd) on a spur of the moment trip. Although we had obviously not pre- booked, it was no problem. We were quickly seated in the comfortable and relaxed bar area. After about 20 minutes my starter was served. I had chosen the garlic mushroom option, and they were truly well cooked, and tasted amazing. Next came chicken and leek pie from the specials menu. Again, it was cooked and served to perfection, and it was also VERY filling. My wife had hunters chicken followed by vanilla and strawberry cheesecake. My wifes dining experience mirrored mine, and we would thoroughly reccomend this eatery to anyone.

We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.

I thought I would try this pub one more time seeing as it's the only one in the village yet again the nasty individual thatworks/runs this sespit was at it again. This time it was a lone man. Absolute disgusting behaviour. Why is the brewery employing someone who knows nothing about hospitality or village live. Time to boycott till the brewery steps in.
