Great local pub with homemade roasts

Popped in for a beer or two as it's my nearest local... Very friendly with both bar staff and locals willing to chat. No feeling of why is a stranger in my bar... If you fancy a quick pint in a old school Pompey pub then I would recommend this place... Really like it (uncle Pete)

Great atmosphere. Tad expensive, but good fun.

Lovely old pub top end of New Road, big large bar sadly no real ale on offer so had to opt for John Smiths, friendly welcoming staff, nice and clean and plenty of comfortable seating. Very quiet for a Saturday night but playing some 50s and 60s on the juke box. Worth a visit near to the Winchester Arms and Mermaid too so could have a good sesh here not forgetting The Druids and Graham Arms.

Great evening. Thoroughly enjoyable listening to live music.

The landlady Karen's roasts are very tasty and gorgeous. Well worth the money for the fresh veg and the amount given...no frozen rubbish!! Lovely friendly pub, bar staff attentive. Had a brilliant band on afterwards to make the perfect end to the day. Definitely be returning

Love the Stag been using this pub since 1998 been many changes in this time the best it looks now the landlady took on board everything i asked to be sorted changed etc etc and she put them all 100% right always clean really friendly staff and a real good pint of lager well done x

Tiny little boozer with a unpleasant crowd of people

A Catherine Hammacott wrote a comment saying that the stag had turned into a Co-Op. this is not the case and my band is indeed playing in the Stag tonight. not sure where she got her information from, but is false.

please note the Stag no longer is open. it has now become a co op shop. please check with most of portsmouths pubs as a lot of them have closed due to financial problems as well as brewers not reopening but instead are selling to builders.
