Nice Tin Tin Chinese Restaurant in Portsmouth

The food is filling and tastes great. Recommend the salt and pepper squid and Hong Kong shrimp

The staff has been friendly nice, the waiting time has been short which can also not be a good sign because dishes can be not freshly made and reheated. Both dishes ordered were inedible and prices are too high. The restaurant interiors are quite old. A traumatic experience to forget.

I popped in on Friday for a take away and ordered Crispy Seaweed, Aromatic Duck , Chicken Satay Skewers and Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls - my go-to favourites. I must say, the service was very quick and I wasn't waiting long for my food to arrive. I was even given prawn crackers whilst waiting. That's the only good part of this review. It's not NICE Tin-Tin at all. The seaweed - the smallest portion I have ever encountered - was chewy and disgusting. It went in the bin. Followed shortly by the duck! It was awful. There was so much fat and soggy skin and hardly any meat and the accompanying cucumber and spring onions were sparse (no bigger than the tiny seaweed portion). The skewers of chicken were an awful texture and didn't taste much of satay. Needless to say, they ended up in the bin with the rest. The S&S chicken was also disappointing - the texture was questionable and the sauce, unpleasant. This was a VERY expensive mistake. I love Chinese food and I sincerely hope that this has not put me off forever - but I do know for sure, that I will never visit Nice(!!?) Tin-Tin again.

Amazing taste of Chinese food!!!

Had a lovely Chinese here on Friday evening. They give you a plate of spring rolls that were freshly made, so light and crunchy aswell as a large bowl of prawn crackers. All 4 of us said it was a great. The staff were so friendly with us. The food was lovely not 1 bad dish and we ordered quite a lot of different dishes. A great meal.

Located across from the train station and the historic dockyard is a fantastic Chinese restaurant that serves delicious food and provides great service.

Best thing about the food was the quick delivery time...ordered 1. vegetable fried rice - rice was not fried and hardly any vegetables. Main flavour was salt. Not good at all!!! 2. Mock chicken - no flavour. Again main taste was salt. Had vegetables yes but dish lacked any real flavour. 3. Deep fried Tofu with garlic salt - was like hollow plastic in deep fried batter. Absolutely tasteless. 4. Kung po chicken - tasted like sweet and sour chicken but slightly different tang. Not really much different, especially compared to the king po chicken I've eaten at other restaurants before. 5. Satay chicken - best dish due to the actual flavour from the peanut sauce.

What a beautiful restaurant , the staff is amazing and very friendly .when we sat down the staff gave us some free prawn crackers and provided us some water. The restaurant’s atmosphere is so chilling and relax .The staff were so generous and kind . The food cook super fast and hot .They also gave us free spring rolls! The manger also shared her story with us . Overall the restaurant is perfect, worth for coming ! BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT IN WHOLE HAMPSHIRE!

The food was so delicious and enormous, the service was amazing and comfortable atmosphere.

I do not recommend it, empty place and everything very expensive and of poor quality, by the way if you order sweet and sour sauce you have to know that they are going to charge you 4.20 pounds, what a rip-off. Now I understand why it was empty, and the reviews posted have to be false, there is no other explanation.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed. The customer service was poor, with the staff being unfriendly. Additionally, the food did not offer the authentic Chinese flavors I was expecting. The quality of the dishes was substandard, making for an overall unsatisfactory experience. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking genuine Chinese cuisine.

We got a table of three. We ordered one starter and 3 mains. We were give. Extra spring rolls and prawn crackers for free. The service was excellent and we were really looked after. The food was also excellent. Will come again!

Friendly staff, great service, and delicious food!

So good first time went again. Same super efficient,smiling service and food served quickly. The house special chow mein is both large and delicious. The duck was also good, in fact everything we had was good. The decor is old and worn, but overlook that and you will have a great meal and not expensive. lord P

I visited this restaurant just opposite Portsmouth station before catching an 8 pm train. I arrived at 7:45 pm, hoping to grab a quick takeaway. The staff were exceptionally polite and guided me to the counter, where a helpful lady made food recommendations. Despite our small order of about £25, we were treated extremely well. We were directed to a separate area to sit and wait while our food was being prepared. During this time, a staff member offered us delicious complimentary snacks, which was a pleasant surprise. Remarkably, our order was ready within 5-6 minutes, ensuring we could catch our train without any stress. When we requested extra ketchup, three staff members went out of their way to find and pack it for us, even though the restaurant was at least 70% full with diners. The food was amazing. The chow mein tasted authentically Chinese. However, the schezwan chicken was a bit blander than expected. Overall, the exceptional service and quality of food make this restaurant a standout choice. I highly recommend it for both its convenience and dining experience. Rating: 5/5

A group of us visited this restaurant before our ferry trip to Normandy 1/06/24 for a meal. What a fantastic experience the hospitality and the atmosphere was amazing. The Staff were amazing and very friendly and the food absolutely fabulous, massive portions and delicious. Thank you to all, we will definitely be visiting you again next year if not before!

Not so good experience the chicken and pineapple was more pineapple than chicken even my 8 y/o who really wanted a decent Chinese was upset. Definitely not ordering again.

I stopped here for a quick bite after touring the naval yard. The duck was amazing! And incredibly reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. Service is awesome!

Authentic HK cuisine and friendly service

A small cozy restaurant with excellent service and really good food. They generously treated us to spring rolls and rice chips. When ordering, keep in mind that the portions are large. There is no unpleasant smell from the kitchen (this problem is typical for Chinese restaurants). Things don't smell like food after visiting this restaurant. Prices are reasonable. The location is great. Opposite the train station and bus station.

Standards have significantly dropped since I last came here. There must be a problem with the oil as a lot of food had a nasty fishy taste to it. Ribs were tough and chewy. Singapore noodles had too much of a kick.

Tasteless food and disgusting dirty toilets

I visited this city a few weeks ago and I haven’t forgotten this restaurant since I left! This Chinese restaurant is indeed my favorite among the many Chinese restaurants I have visited in many cities in the UK. The service is the best, the portions are the largest, and the taste is very authentic!

Amazing place. Delicious food at a fair price, nice staff, complimentary basket of prawn crackers and spring rolls. I definitely recommend it.

Grabbed a takeaway Chow mein quickly on my way to the train and it was utterly delicious, made my journey! Giant portion, everything cooked properly (and I am an experienced cook myself), short waiting time, and very friendly service as well. When I'm next time in Portsmouth definitely will pop in again.

We’ve tried most of the chineses in pourtsmouth now 🤣 and this one is our FAVOURITE! The dumplings I wouldn’t go anywhere else for dumplings they are AMAZING, the chips aswell the chicken curry literally everythign we’ve also tried the salt and pepper ribs the spring rolls we got complimentary the rice the noodles everything was fresh and delicious 10/10 recommend to anyone ordering take always or to anyone that wants a nice place to sit in and have a meal or catch up with friends, it’s just by the train station and by gumwarf where the ferry is ! Lovely staff also x

While in Portsmouth a friend and I visited here it was a lovely little restaurant the staff made us feel welcome the moment we stepped through the door. We were seated quickly our drinks order taken. To our surprise we were presented with prawn crackers and spring rolls on the house our food when served was hot and and plentiful we were given glasses of water without having to ask its the little touches that makes this a great little find next time I visit Portsmouth I will happily return

This place has had a refurb since our last visit and personally I preferred it before .The food was good though not anything you couldn't get from a takeaway .The toilets are up a very steep long set of stairs which would be a real struggle for me with arthritis in both knees .Thankfully I didn't need to go .My husband asked if there was a service charge and was told no so we left a good tip .When he checked the bill the next day there was a service charge .Doubtful we would return .

I love their food, but when you live 2 seconds away the system does not let you order. I've had a few issues with making the order over the phone as they let some under experience deal with calls which results in frustrated conversations. Defo think thwy need a better system to do ordering.

Nice cozy Chinese restaurant just in front of the Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Lovely food, staff very friendly, you wouldn't be disturbed by the outside traffic noise, very enjoyable atmosphere. Despite some people complaining about the prices in their reviews, I can bet that they didn't leave any leftovers on their plates.

Had a wonderful experience at Tin Tin last night. The food was delicious and the service was first class...and so patient, considering we were late arriving and we needed a breather between our starters and main course. Will definitely return and I highly recommend!

We were greeted by very friendly staff into a bright but cosy restaurant. We chose from the set menu which was all delicious and very generous portions (we took home what we couldn't manage ) Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a lovely evening 😊

We were recommended this restaurant by the ship Hotel. Food and service are both excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Great value for money. Had the set meal for 2 , lots of course everyone was piping hot and delicious.

We aren't familiar in Porthsmouth so we didnt know that all the restaurants will be full in the harbour. We were very hungry so we decided to walk back to the city to grab some food. So we started walking and next to the bus station near the old ships we noticed this small Chinese place. First we though it's closed but then we saw that people sitting in there. We gave it a try and didn't regret it. Food was fantastic, staff was nice and smiling, they also answered our food related questions, because one of us needed vegetarian food. I had roasted duck with noodles, the best chinese that I ever had. Amazing. If I ever return to Porthsmouth, I will eat there again. Definitely a well deserved 5 stars.

We had this chinese delivered for the first time we thought we would try a new Chinese. It was delicious hot through out and not one thing we did not like the noodles were a favourite we will be back :)

Have eaten here many times over the last 10 years and always had a great meal. However, it is now 'under New Management' so this is now our 1st visit under the new regime. I'm pleased to say the same high standard is still being maintained.

Bland tasteless food, not remotely authentic, and very overpriced for what you get. The ambiance is terrible, it seems to be in a really tired former pub. The toilets were not clean at all. They also had the cheek to stick on a mandatory 10% service charge on the bill which was completely undeserved. It cost us £33 for two beers, and a shared starter and main. Avoid!

Pleasant restaurant in Portsmouth City centre close to Gunwharf Quays shopping centre. Food was good and portions generous. Service was friendly. Reasonably busy on a Saturday evening.

Have been here a couple of times with friends and really enjoyed our food, I don't know if there are new owners but this time we we're not impressed with the food. After ordering it was served really quickly, actually too quick. The plates weren't warmed and the food was OK but expensive, they also add 10% service charge. I think it needs a refurbishment and the staff should smarten up. I think this will be the last time we go.

Really disappointed - expensive, cold atmosphere, below average food. We paid almost £50 for two mains, one dim sum and two soft drinks, sadly I really can't say anything nice about this place. Nothing was awful, it was just really bland food and very overpriced. The venue is lit by too many strip lights which make it feel cold and the furnishings are pretty tired. The waiter didn't smile once and was very sultry. If you really like Chinese food then I'd advise you try elsewhere, the 4.5 star everage rating really isn't deserved.

We visit Portsmouth alot , most visits we pop either for a take away or a meal out ..over many many years never had a bad meal . Visited last Saturday lunchtime we were greeted with a fullish restaurant service was good .food was beautiful. Just very tired decor doesn't matter its clean and I'm not eating the decor. Keep up the good work. Times are tight for everyone.

Traditional British-Chinese food done really well. There were some Chinese families dining so I guess authentic Chinese cooking is also available. Anyway what we had was delicious and the service was friendly and welcoming.

Food was exceptional, plenty of it and piping hot. We couldn't eat it all so they boxed it up for us to take home. The staff were also delightful. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

We visited Tin Tin for a late lunch. Not a large seating area but cosy and clean. Very friendly staff and so helpful too. We had a mix of starters; bao buns, dumplings and crispy seaweed. All were very nice. For main course we chose mixed vegetables, scampis with ginger and curry chicken. Sorry that there are no photos of the meal but we were so blown away we just got straight into it and forgot to take any pictures. Sorry. We highly recommend tin tin if you’re looking for a Chinese!

Best Chinese named after a Belgian detective in Portsmouth!

What a pleasant surprise Tin Tin’s was. We popped in after a visit to HMS Victory and were greeted warmly by the host. As we were dining with a toddler he was very thoughtful and seated us in a booth so she could sit between us. The service was brilliant. Very friendly and attentive. The food was equally delicious and tasty. The restaurant had a really pleasant atmosphere. Quiet enough that you can hear yourself think unlike many of the other restaurants we looked at. It was a really lovely dinner and great end to the day! Well worth a visit for anyone looking for a nice spot for dinner! Would definitely go back.

I enjoyed the new nice tin tin. Lovely service, good menu lots of choice. I will definitely return. I went to original tin tin every couple of months for the last 4/5 years. It’s a shame they sold up but I am happy with the new nice tin tin that is now there. The staff were lovely and friendly and are settling in nicely. I think it would be positive for people to try it and not compare it to a business that’s now extinct.

If you like spicy hot then go for the Boiled Fish Schechen. Amazing!!

**HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!** People say that when you see Chinese diners in the restaurant you want to eat at, you can guarantee it’ll be good one and it’s no lie. As a Vietnamese person, I can tell you this is true, not just for Chinese, but Vietnamese restaurants also. We found this restaurant by chance walking past on our first day to Portsmouth and came here for lunch on our departure day. We were not disappointed! The food portion was great for the price but the taste was simply amazing - tasted to me just like home-cooked food and not your standard, average Chinese restaurant. After speaking to a staff member, she told me the food is cooked Hong Kong style which explained a lot (my parents lived in HK and my mum cooked the local food) which is why I think I found the food tasting so authentic. Lots of options to choose from including the Chef’s specials (I need to try this next time) and dim sum dishes. My friend and I had the fried beef in ginger and spring onion with sauce, roast duck fried rice, king prawn and vegetables chow mein, and spare ribs. Well-seasoned, flavoursome and delicious! Staff were very attentive and friendly, place was clean and so were the bathrooms/toilets which are upstairs by the way in case you have mobility issues. The interior design looks a bit old-school but I could swear that is intentional to add the authentic charm to the place as the staff member told us they had recently refurbished. PS. They only deliver between PO1 and PO7, which differs from the information on their leaflets (please update!) but if you do pass by Portsmouth Harbour, make sure you visit.

Friendly and welcoming place to eat with delicious Chinese food

We didn't get any food or drink. The place was three quarters empty when we came in mid evening. We sat for over ten minutes without even being asked if we wanted anything to drink while we looked at the menu. One member of staff was busy on her phone all that time. Too brightly lit, no atmosphere and a table of noisy sweary people nearby didn't help. We walked out when it became clear customer service isn't on the menu. We had talked to locals in our pub/hotel whether it was a place to eat and the consensus was don't go there. I would now agree with that.

Very bad, there will never be a second time. The spoiled duck meat is definitely overnight. Buying such a thing at a high price is really outrageous

New items every day, fresh every day, delicious every day! It’s best to eat something new every day! Next time you come, be sure to invite your relatives and friends to eat! The stir-fried pork ribs, which I haven’t seen in the UK for a long time, have a real Hong Kong taste. They are so delicious that I even ate the juice at the bottom of the plate!
