An Absolute Gem in the Heart of the Countryside! I’m not from around the area, but during my stay, I found myself coming back to The Staff of Life Pub every single day—and with good reason! The food here is simply out of this world. From the mouth-watering tapas, which were a delightful mix of flavors and textures, to the traditional roast dinner that was as comforting as it was delicious, everything was cooked to perfection. And don’t even get me started on the apple pie—it’s truly to die for. Each bite was a slice of heaven, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Beyond the food, the ambience of the pub is fantastic. It has that perfect blend of warm, cozy, and welcoming, with a lively atmosphere that makes you feel at home, whether you're a regular or just passing through. The décor is charming, and the subtle lighting creates a wonderfully relaxed vibe. What really made my experience special was the incredible service, particularly from Sharon. She is such a gem—warm, attentive, and always ready with a smile. Sharon made sure that every visit was memorable and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. Whether you're local or just visiting, The Staff of Life is a must-visit. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are simply unbeatable. I’ll definitely be back!

A lovely country pub and food was fabulous. The young girl serving was a credit to the place along with the proprietors who really made us feel at home. We had steaks and gammon which were cooked beautifully and there was plenty, and the homemade apple pie was delicious. There was lots on the menu to choose from including tapas or full plate traditional. The ambience in the pub was friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be back for the Sunday roast, and the planned theme nights of Indian and grilled 😋

We chose the Staff of Life simply because they offer something different to your mainstream restaurants…. Tapas. We went to town on the menu a little too much, so many different dishes to choose from and each was plentiful which gave all five of us chance to sample each one, all were delicious. No room left for deserts. We ended the evening in the cosy snug area talking with Steve the proprietor about his plans for different menus / theme nights and what he currently offers. Steves Sunday roast sounds amazing so that’s next on our to “try” list.

First time at Staff of Life and I will definitely be back! Went for sunday lunch which was excellent, loved that that they had turkey as a choice and it was super delicious and tasty. Everything was clearly prepared on the premises and not bought in and it really gave it a great home cooked feel.....very generous on the portions too! The staff were also so lovely and welcoming, it is a delight of a pub and I recommend it highly!!!

Having seen the new Tapas menu online we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed, the only difficulty was deciding which dishes to choose from the extensive number of options. We chose six dishes between us, which was ample. Each dish was beautifully cooked and presented. In addition to the quality of the food the service was excellent. All in all an excellent meal at a reasonable price. We will be visiting again soon..

My husband and I had Sunday lunch here. We were welcomed by Sharon and had a drink at the bar whilst we looked at the menu, Although not a carvery, the plated roast beef didn't disappoint. Creamy mashed potato topped with delicious tasting beef, plus roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes, not forgetting the yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy. Wow!!, and then a side serving of brocoli, cauliflower cheese and garden peas to complete a delicious Sunday lunch. Our meal arrived quickly and was piping hot with an extra jug of gravy and choice of accompanying sauces. Excellent service, we'll back again soon

I visited the Staff of Life for Sunday lunch and I was not disappointed. It is no longer carvery but that did not distract from the portion size. I had beef which was delicious roast and mash potatoes plenty of vegetables and I was asked if I wanted more and I didn't as I couldn't manage the amount I had already been given. Definitely worth visiting and I will be going again sooner rather than later.

We visited on Thursday. There were 4 of us. The pub was quite busy when we arrived. We had booked but there are quite a few tables. The menu was largely Tapas but there were also several full plate dishes to chose from, so the choice was plentiful and varied. 3 of us had tapas and opted for 3 dishes each and one opted for the minted lamb shank full plate dinner. That was cooked beautifully and there was plenty. For the tapas, we had a variety of choice which was quite difficult to select 3 items each (you weren't limited but was told by our spain loving son that 3 was the traditional amount). When they arrived, we were surprised at how much there was in each one, and we were all full. A good sharer is the sweet potato fries and the bruschetta. Alongside those, we had the chicken tikka, mediterranean risotto, swedish meatballs, garlic mushrooms, penne pasta, duck parcels and patatas bravas. We ended our meal with an apple pie and chocolate fudge cake. We were all super-impressed with the food and couldn't fault any of it. Tapas enables you to eat as little or as much as you want with plenty of choice but the full plate options enables you to chose more traditionally if you prefer. So a good mix for us. The owners of the pub were lovely - they couldn't do enough for you and were happy to chat giving it that good traditional pub feel. The atmosphere was quite busy when we went in, plenty of people who had come for a drink aswell, so the feel in there was really nice, friendly and upbeat. We would all recommend a visit to The Staff of Life at Mowsely and will be coming back ourselves.

Venue is lovely and feels extremely welcoming when you enter. The waiting team were fab, extremely attentive and friendly. However what let the trip down was the food. We paid £6 for prawn cocktails. Put it this way, somoene in the part ate the two pieces of bread and the sauce and left the lettuce, we joked that she was leaving £4.50 worth of lettuce. Honestly, they shouldnt have come out of the kitchen, there were literally 5 shrimps (not prawns) and about a table spoon of dressing, if that. The carvery....... The meat was fab, could not fault the meat in the slightest. Frozen yorkshire puddings, Carrots so overcooked they were black and like mush. Parsnips again, black. Green beans that seemed tinned. Roast potatoes like rocks. Also everything seemed SWIMMING in oil, to the point on the plate you could see seperate pools of gravy and oil.

Recently reopened in Mowsley, Lutterworth after a long closure. Went on a Thursday evening and the welcome was very warm and friendly from Steve. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was lovely. My son decided upon the fish and chips and he said it was one of the tastiest he had had for a long time. We bumped into the chef towards the end of the evening and paid him compliments which were fully deserved. Will definitely return, and in fact we are for Mother's Day. My wife and I had the Sunday lunchtime carvery. We were greeted with a lovely friendly welcome from Steve the owner. The ambience could not have been better as the pub was relatively busy but there remained sufficient room to order the pre lunch drinks. The place was very clean and the decorations were impressive. The food, we had the beef, was perfectly cooked and plentiful, the vegetables were both excellent and freshly cooked. It was the best carvery we have eaten in a very long while. We will definitely return but I suggest you book first as when we left it was very busy

A village pub with a good ambience. Lovely to see everyone come into the pub with their dogs after the local shoot. It created a nice country vibe. I had been looking forward to trying the food at the Staff of Life. However, due to time constraints, I opted for a quick bite to eat rather than a main meal. I ordered loaded nachos and was very disappointed to find that none of the ingredients were fresh. The toppings were what I'd call 'fake food' straight from a bottle. The guacamole was bright green, obviously full of food colouring. The salsa had never seen a tomato in its life and the cheese was a processed liquid. Why opt for fake toppings when it takes a few minutes to make them fresh? How difficult can it be to grate real cheese over a plate of nachos? This was a very quick and simple dish to execute even by an untrained cook. It surprises me that an establishment selling food would be okay with allowing this to leave their kitchen! Definitely room for improvement.

Recently re-opened after a prolonged period of closure and having undergone refurbishment this pub/restaurant is worth a try. The staff are extremely welcoming and the bar has a pleasant ambience. The current menu is a little restricted but a revised version with more popular pub favourites is promised soon. The food was good and well presented but lack of customers must be a challenge. Sunday carveries are proving to be very popular and good value. The pub needs more supporters to ensure it continues as a business so we shall return.

We had not been to the 'Staff' for years and decided to book Sunday lunch with them. The young staff were pleasant and gave really good table service. Before the delicious main course warmed fresh bread with a dip was brought to us. The food was excellent including the dessert for which we did, unlike other places visited, have to wait long. All round we just could not fault anything with the food but one qualm was the customer car park at the rear of the building as after the rain its gravel surface was partly waterlogged with puddles and we drove out again and parked on the roadway near by. Anyway really recommend and it made our Sunday that also included a stroll around the village afterwards including a look at the parish church.

Been here a few times now and cannot fault the food, however on a recent trip the service was lacking. Surprised on a Saturday night that the front of house staff consisted of four young teens. Now, I have absolutely no issue with that and they were no doubt doing their best but seemed to have little to no training. Service is a lot more than taking your order and bringing your food out. We were served Sauvignon Blanc because they ‘had ran out of’ the Cabernet Sauvignon we asked for (BTW - one’s white and one’s red!). Also, the bottle of wine we ordered was plonked on the table unannounced, unopened and without an invitation to try. I write this in the spirit of constructive criticism and because it was a shame that a little training would have made a big difference. Food superb though!

This pub is very overrated. There were 4 of us out for a quiet Sunday lunch. However, on the table behind us were a very noisy party of 12-15 adults. We asked to move to the bar but were told no, even though there was room. We could not hear each other talk. Well, fair enough, but then they got our meals wrong, there were clearly no vegan options; we were given our main about 15 minutes before the veggies came out. My son-in-law had finished his beef so had a plate of vegetables. My daughter waited so she had cold meat. I haven't had such a rotten experience of eating out in ages. I was in tears after because we'd wanted a quiet, family meal. What we got was appalling. The large table obviously their priority and we could go hang...

There are a great deal of positive comments I can make about our experience at the Staff of Life but this has to be qualified by some negatives I'm afraid. We had a table of 5 on a relatively busy Saturday night. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a cosy, warm atmospere and quite romantic lighting in the restaurant section. Came here a few weeks ago for my daughters birthday as we live locally and have enjoyed meals here several times before. I ordered prawns and salmon for the starter which was ok although they were the smallest prawns I have ever seen and although quite tasty rather expensive at over £6 for a small portion. Next I had beef medallions which was nice but the veg were very over cooked and really tasteless. This I would have accepted but what really did put the icing on the cake was the sirloin steak both my husband and daughter ordered, both rare and both definitely medium! Again this is hard to get right but they both asked for sauces and chose Stilton, this came not as a sauce but as a slice of cheese on the over cooked steak! Really not impressed especially as the steaks already were over £20 each and we were charged another £2.50 per dish for a slice of cheese! Will

We came here on a Saturday night as a party of 10 (should have been 12) for a double birthday party with one young person and 9 adults. The member of staff who appeared to be in charge was quite 'off' with us about needing to hurry our order, as we were taking our seats and waiting for the birthday ppl to arrive. As it happened they were in the bar just ordering arrival drinks. She was also rather gruff with us when it turned out 2 ppl couldn't make it and she made quite a deal about removing chairs and cutlery. The menu is all hand written in the bar area (apart from a more fixed vegetarian menu which is printed), which is a little awkward for the elderly or infirm to get to (down some stairs) or to read if they have forgotten their glasses :-/ or indeed for such a large party as the space is not huge next to the board. Or indeed if you have a problem memory and can't remember what you wanted on returning to your seat! The food was very nice, if a little pricey and the waitress was not prepared to have anything changed on the menu apart from leaving items off a plate. My son has food issues (he is autistic) and I asked if his chicken (the only thing on the menu he would eat) could come without the bacon on. I am assuming at these prices the food is cooked to order and I don't think we were being unreasonable in the request but I was told a firm no, that's the way it comes. He was allowed not to have the sauce :-| Fortunately I was able to intercept his plate and remove the offending items before he got them. I have a dairy allergy and there was one dish on the menu that I could be sure had as little dairy as possible. The food was delicious, tho some of the veggie options seemed over priced. The puddings looked nice but I have to avoid butter, cream, icecream, milk chocolate etc so I had green tea in lieu of dessert. They were very accommodating about us bringing our cakes, tho' with the narky attitude of the waitress (poss manager) we wondered if we would actually be allowed to have candles/cut them etc! Another member of staff brought them out and offered us knives and plates. Despite the unfriendly and quite intimidating attitude of that one member of staff we enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere amongst others guests was fun and friendly. The room however was exceptionally hot with a wood burner in one room and a radiator next to our table.

Hadn't been to the Staff of Life for some time so decided to return for a family birthday celebration and we weren't disappointed. The food was just as good and the staff just as friendly and helpful. The game pie was wonderful with gorgeous goose fat roated potatoes. The mini pudding and coffee rounded the meal off perfectly.

Very disappointed with our Sunday dinner. Tiny portions at expensive prices. No greens at all with vegetables, half a carrot per person and a quarter of parsnip isn't what I call a portion of veg. Will not be recommending or retuning.

We visited as a group of four on a Friday night. It wasn't as busy as expected but still had a nice atmosphere.Good choice of real ales, well cooked food and reasonable value. We liked the home cooked bread. The menu was good without being overly long. Only possible complaint was that there was a lot of pigeon, rabbit and game on there which may be not to some people's liking, although the game pie I ate was excellent. I will maybe try again later in the year to see if it is seasonal.Overall - does well at being both a locals pub and offering high quality gastropub food.

We've been visiting this restaurant now for 10 years, and its always our first choice on a special occasion. The food is outstanding and the menu is always seasonal. I can't say we've ever had a bad meal. Last night it was the best we've ever had, everything is very fresh, theres never too longer wait and it always impresses. The choice of wine is great and we had a wonderful bottle of red last night. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is due to drinks being very expensive at the bar and the staff being quite unfriendly/cold. We weren't welcomed with warm smiles or any conversation at all, in fact one of the young girls was stood on her phone behind the bar, it felt a bit like it was a pain to serve us. Its well worth a visit though and we will always return!

Quite simply the best pub meal we have had in the area for many a moons. Great food, lovely pub and excellent service. Really nice menu with plenty of choice. I had the rump steak which was great and my wife had the Sea Bass fillets. The homemade Soda bread was very nice. We'll be back Saturday 29th Jan (if we can get a table)

Food selection was amazing and all fresh. The quality was outstanding as was the service. Price for 3 courses at 30pounds approx is amazing. Staff were efficient and polite. Ambience in the restaurant and the pub was welcoming. Beer was well selected and maintained. For a small establishment to make such a good impression is rare. Elsewhere a review mentioned the lack of soda bread and vegatables. Well we had no problems and indeed the value is not diminished.

Booked a table for 8. Received the starters with 2 soda bread mini-loaves. Asked for additional loaves as it was clearly insufficient to cover 8 . . request denied as they had only allocated 2 to cover 8 people. All main selections were minimally sized as every dish looked amazingly small compared to the £32.50 3 course cost. Vegetable dishes were 1/2 full compared to any other restaurants we had eaten at. Puddings all undersize. So, as a customer, who has used this restaurant on previous occasions and had no complaints . . it has simply reversed its policy to charge the most money for visibly reduced portion sizes. So much for loyalty. . . I won`t be going back !!

On our first visit we had a great meal with friends. The smell of food as you walk in the door is amazing and you are compelled to take a table and sample the cuisine. Great food coupled with well kept beer, need I say moor

I was recommended to come here from the old hall B&B just down the road, i am glad I decided to take there recommendations rather than the wetherspoons i was going to go to. They brought bread to the table, this was a nice addition, it was still warm too. I had pigeon to start and this was fantastic, the taste was brilliant. I relally enjoyed this. I had the shin of beef for main, this was just as good.I was very impressed with my whole visit, the staff where great. I will be returning here. I was very impressed with the 3 courses for £16!!!!!

I can’t really understand what’s happened to this restaurant / pub! Went for an evening meal last Thursday and the place just had no atmosphere only a couple of other tables with people seated for food.Big same as it was nice a few years ago. Food was ok this time if you like Pigeon and game as there’s quite a load on the menu boards which are very difficult to read.Shame it’s gone south !

This came highly recommended by local knowledge and we were not disappointed. Between us the starters were excellent prawns and scallops followed by stone bass and haddock. Decent wine list too and a cost pub to boot.

Good selection of real ales, well keptLots of choice on the menu including some good country dishes like pigeon and pheasantThere is a specials night on Tuesday and Wednesday where you get a three course meal for $14.95 and that is very good quality and value. The double cooked hand cut chips are excellent. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and go great with a steak and pint of wainwright.

I went there for lunch, there was a nice variety to choose from. The menu is nothing like your standard pub grub, it is more sophisticated with different choices such as wood pigeon. I had three courses, the wood pigeon to start, the steak for mains and the homemade malteser cheesecake to finish. The price was very reasonable for the quality and presentation of the food, also the service was very good. I would recommend this place for lunch if you are wanting to have a memorable meal or perhaps wanting to try something different!

We haven't been to Kilworth House for a very long time but thought it was about time to give it a another go! Well you won't be disappointed - the food in the The Wordsworth was amazing! We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and I must say that this would not look out of place! We were very well looked after. The only I would say is that they need another dish per course on the menu as there were only 3 starters, 3 main courses etc. Also it was a shame that there wasn't more people in the restaurant but I suppose it is January. We will definitely be going back!

Mums's 90th suprise birthday get together 🥳 A fantastic venue and our own area which made it even more special. There was 21 of us and the room was ideal. The 3 course meal was amazing! Great value for money. The staff Bill, Hattie and Karen were superb 👏 thank you! Some of us stayed overnight and the room we had was really clean and comfortable. No breakfast available here but is available a short drive into Ullesthorpe. Altogether a brilliant venue and would recommend this for a personal function.

Order at 9am if you want lunch 🙄 honestly I don't think I've been anywhere so slow. Even at full capacity it should not be hard to manage with the level of staff. Avoid.. Unless you see going for breakfast as a full day activity.

Very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble with my food allergy. We had Sunday roast which was delicious and plentiful and after a short break we found room for dessert. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
