We haven't been to Kilworth House for a very long time but thought it was about time to give it a another go! Well you won't be disappointed - the food in the The Wordsworth was amazing! We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and I must say that this would not look out of place! We were very well looked after. The only I would say is that they need another dish per course on the menu as there were only 3 starters, 3 main courses etc. Also it was a shame that there wasn't more people in the restaurant but I suppose it is January. We will definitely be going back!

Birthday celebration booked in the Wordsworth for a Sunday lunch. Started off with an excessive wait for someone to take us through to the room, followed by cold mains, incorrect desserts and over three hours for three courses. The bill was reduced to match the poor level of service and food but I would have rather paid the full amount and had a positive review to write. I won’t be returning for lunch again.

The Starters were very nice apart from the stale bread roll which was replaced by another one that had been microwaved for a few seconds My wife had sea bream which was fine but my roast beef was not good at all the edges were hard and tasted as though it had been kept warm for ages Desserts were tasty and well presented Overall very poor value and not what we would expect from an expensive restaurant. Service was excellent Certainly did not live up to expectations and we won’t be rushing back

We all ordered 3 courses, which started with a nice treat of a fish and chips aperitif which was small pieces of fish on a light potato crisp and deep fried ham hock different to the starter This was served on a bed of hot stones. We tried the lobster, which was exquisite, the ham hock and duck liver parfait, For main course we went of the Rib of Beef (could have done with more as it was so good) and Partridge. Pistachio soufflé and a nice selection of cheese and biscuits. This is clearly one of the best restaurants in the area so don't be misled by the rating system within TripAdvisor as most people will know the Orangery restaurant is in the same hotel but this is the best and most expensive. A very good country hotel.

My 3 friends and I had a wonderful Christmas meal last Thursday.. We were very impressed with the main course choices. 3 meat options, 2 fish and 2 vegetarian at £38 per head. (Much better than Rushton Hall which is £55 per head) All courses were excellent and the price included tea or coffee and petit fours. the service was excellent and the restaurant itself is very impressive. We will definitely be going back. Well done Kilworth House and for accommodating us at short notice.

Have visited before earlier this year in the spring and certainly still impressive from the moment you enter the driveway to the grounds. Restaurant: Originally tried to book for the Orangery but unfortunately it was reserved for a private function. We found the Wordsworth suite equally as comfortable with some lovely original features and tastefully set out. Food: As expected, very very good. My starter was the Smoked Haddock Rarebit, Main - Pork Fillet wrapped in parma Ham, Dessert - Blackberry and quince charlotte. All were meticulously presented, delicious and of a very high standard. My partner selected the Salt beef terrine to start, Main - 28 day aged strip loin of beef, Dessert - Cinnamon brûlée. Again, all meticulous although the Yorkshire Pudding was disappointing, although not to the degree to spoil a lovely meal. Staff: Obviously the staff were very busy with catering for a large private function, but this did not affect how well we were looked after. I pride myself on being 'working-class' but we felt we were treated like royalty. Everyone was so pleasant, courteous and nothing was too much trouble. Very professional service and a credit to the restaurant. Summary: A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience in a lovely setting. Will definitely return in the future.

We went as a party of 6 to dine in the Wordsworth Restaurant and was very disappointed at the quality and quantity of food served. We are used to fine dining but we felt that the food is being masked behind the opulent surroundings which are stunning especially at Christmas. The main courses were extremely minimal and we certainly didn't feel it was value for money. Also the table wasn't cleared during the evening of christmas cracker debris or drink glasses. We were very disappointed and feel it is overpriced.

Myself and my friend went for lunch on Saturday and what a beautiful experience. The house certainly had the wow factor as it was all dressed for Christmas, the tree and roaring fireplace in the main reception area were both beautiful. Very attentive staff, enjoyed having a drink first before being show to our table. We were there about three hours and were never pressurised into leaving. The roast beef was incredibly tasty as was the gravy/jus. I wasn't too keen on the terrine starter but that was my choice and I had plum sponge with vanilla custard which again was light, tasty and satisfying. All in all a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go again. Would have loved to have walked around the grounds but unfortunately it was beginning to get dark by the time we had finished.

I organised our work Christmas do at Kilworth House after a couple of recommendations from friends. I was looking forward to having afternoon tea in the beautiful orangery. As soon as we arrived, the house and gardens had the wow factor (it would be a wonderful venue for a wedding). The numerous Christmas trees and decorations were beautiful and very classy. Our party had all arrived early and we were able to sit down well before our allocated time of 4pm. We were immediately served with a glass of prosecco. However, it was advertised on-line as a choice of prosecco, sherry or a non-alcoholic punch. We were not offered any choice. We were then served a selection of thin breads with four different toppings. They were all quite tasty. After that, the sweet selection was served. If I remember correctly, there were six different types of patisserie including a crème brulee and two types of scones. There was not enough patisserie for everyone to try one each and we had to cut the little cakes into four or more so everyone could have a taste. There was 13 of us and we had three stands with the same amount on so I'm not quite sure how they expected us to share out our food fairly. We did ask the waitress who looked a little bewildered when we asked for more crème brulees so everyone could have one each. The pot of cream provided for 6 scones was small and I don't think it was proper clotted cream. So to sum up, the food was alright but nothing special. I actually felt quite disappointed with the quality of the patisserie and the amount served. When I have afternoon tea, I usually end up feeling really stuffed but I didn't this time and felt it really was just a large snack with tea. Oh the tea. The tea was lose leaved which was nice but it was very very weak and we had to ask for more leaves and we were never asked at any point if we needed to top up. We had to ask them. I feel they could improve immensely on both the savoury and sweet side. How about small quiches or savoury scones or a small savoury tart of some sort? With the sweet side, I think everyone should have been able to try one each instead of having to share. I don't think it was worth the £28. I think it was only about £28 when we had afternoon tea at Harrods and that was unlimited everything! Not that I eat a lot but it's not good when you feel you haven't got your moneys worth. You want your customers to feel it was good value. The young staff were pleasant enough but didn't really show any interest in looking after us.After our afternoon tea, as it was still early and it had been about an hour since we had been served a drink, we decided to have coffee in one of the lounges which looked very comfortable and inviting. We ordered 3 lattes, 1 filtered coffee, 1 hot chocolate and 2 glasses of water (we were charged £2 each for the water which they did not bring out the bottle so it could have been tap water). We must have waited at least half an hour to 45 minutes. The ladies opposite us had already complained twice about the wait. Eventually our order arrived without an apology. The waiters were polite but I think a quick apology for the wait would have been appropriate. However, despite my low rating of the afternoon tea, the house and gardens are beautiful and it's worth a visit for the experience.

We have previously enjoyed a meal followed by the theatre at Kilworth but this time we booked a room for 20 people and had the best service possible from pre-booking to the very ast moment of the actual night. Nicki was flexible with our choice of menu which all arrived and was enjoyed without exception. We had prosecco waiting for us on arrival and nice wines and excellent service throughout the meal, Well done. Thoroughly recommended.

We booked this for ourselves and friends but were a little worried that our expectations were perhaps too high because of how good afternoon tea was. Our friends looked at the menu and seemed quite excited and we looked forward to the evening ahead. Once we arrived, the atmosphere was as always amazing in the restaurant. The jump back to the 1920s was so refreshing. However, it was the service that made the service quite special. A member of staff of was able to recommend and recognise that there was a vegetarian in the party and straightaway we were impressed by the conscientiousness of the staff at such at early stage. Our pre-drinks were brought to us quickly and equally taken to our tables with efficiency and aplomb. We opted for the a la carte 3 course menu and we had the full range of starters, main course and desert. Personally, I had the salmon and scambled egg for starter, the belly pork and lobster for mains and raspberry and popcorn for desert. All 3 courses were wonderful and I would have it again. My friends had the vegetarian option, the steak and my wife had the fish. All 3 remarked on how good the food was. The service was always attentive and not too in your face or over friendly and the maitre-de was able to judge very well the right amount of attention guests needed/ wanted. The price was very reasonably including drinks was about £50 per head which for what the hotel represents is very reasonable. I am considering hiring the private room for a birthday party and certainly hope that the service and food is as good next time.

For the first time in about 8 years of occasional dining here, I had less than a splendid experience. The ambience hasn’t changed (superb) and the service was as genteel as ever but the menu is now restricted to about 6 each, starters, mains and desserts.I choose ‘Fish and Chips’ – the portion was miniscule, the fish most unappetising in colour and tasteless and the batter was thick and crunchy and frankly, horrible. The chips were excellent however. My Bakewell Tart was dry and without any almond zing!.Sorry – please do better next time!!!

This review is specifically about The Wordsworth restaurant - I have reviewed the Kilworth House Hotel separately.Firstly the two good points: the dining room is stunning, especially if you like Victorian style decoration; it's evident that it has been very carefully and tatefully restored. Our server was also very attentive (although there were only 3 couple dining that evening, including us) and appeared knowledgeable about the dishes. And that's about it.The evening started poorly when we were seated in one of the lounges for pre-dinner cocktails. I was aware of the (strict) dress code when I booked and consequently packed appropriate clothes so as to comply. However, having arrived for dinner wearing purple twill trousers I was told that I couldn't dine in the restaurant wearing jeans! This was rescinded when I explained the difference between chinos and denims. The waiter then asked for our drinks order: a G&T and an Old Fashioned. The latter baffled him and he went away to check with the barman after I suggested he would be able to make one so long at there was bourbon on the bar. When he returned he wanted to check that it was an Old School I'd ordered! Hmmm, not to impressive for an up-scale establishment.Things got a little better when we went throught to the dining room as our server was very polite and friendly. We decided to go for the set tasting menu (different from the one currently on the website incidentally). At £49.50 pax that seemed very reasonable and in hindsight I suspect it is too inexpensive - my sense is that the dishes are too ambitious for the price and so compromises are made. My other suspicion is that while the chef is clearly competent he would be better producing simpler plates of food well rather that more elaborate ones that don't really work. Here are a few examples: the consome was crystal clear but utterly tasteless (aside from the handful of fresh peas floating it in); the avocado sorbet tasted pleasant with the cock crab but having something frozen on the plate detracted from the dish, it didn't enhance it; the quail was very well cooked, moist and tender, but was accompanied by some conflicting flavours (half goosberries!); the blueberry granola pre-dessert dish was devoid of granola, the 'crunch' texture being provided by popcorn. My wife said the chocolate pudding was devine so the meal ended on a high note for her.My final observation is the wine list - way too limited and the quality too low to sit alongside a menu like this.If a retaurant aspires to produce innovative dishes in a quality dining room (with a pointless but strict dress code) it better do one thing above all else - serve high quality, well thought out plates of food. Sadly it falls way short which is a genuine shame.

Took my mum for her birthday and decided to take in the show too..this year, Sister Act is showing and it was fab. The grounds are superb and would go again to the theatre. However we were really disappointed with the food. I thought that it was over priced and really bland. We both had the lamb curry which was little more than a stew, rubbish portion sizes (we're not big eaters either but we both left hungry) and the crumble for dessert was poor. I would not recommend eating here at all. The staff were ok but not overly attentive. I had been looking forward to going here for some time but would not return to eat in a hurry. A really shame. It is a gem of a place. Just needs an overhaul with new chef who has taste buds!

To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we decided to try out afternoon tea at Kilworth House. Having looked at the menu online we knew that the food (based on the price) would have to be good. We had obviously set our expectations high. You straightaway feel very important as you take the drive into the grounds, up the driveway and then the grand entrance past the hallway into the restaurant. Once you were seated, you were amazed at the 1920s decor which seemed to send you back in time or pre war decadence. Service was of course exemplary and afternoon tea was splendid. Though it can be accepted that these are only sandwiches and cakes, the food is amazing. The sandwiches were all standard fillings; salmon/ cream cheese, ham/ tomato, chicken caesar but each one tasted fresh and not filling as a variety of 'posh' bread was used instead of your standard sandwiches. The piece de resistance were the scones/ cakes and homemade jams. The scones in particular were beautiful but the cakes were so light that you did not feel over full up with the lightness of the pastry and chocolate filling. This is definitely something you need to do as a treat and we have also booked the restaurant for September for an evening meal which we are looking forward to. If we are as impressed with the food, I will want to spend an evening there as well and take in a theatre show!

We booked as a party of six for dinner and show. The setting is fabulous - beautiful house and gardens. We all opted for the pre- theatre deal on meals. On the whole the food was very nice but could have been improved upon. I had chicken in sweet and sour with rice. To be honest - the chicken was a touch dry and overall the meal was a little bland. I had a mackerel fishcake for starter which was a little lacking in mackerel. The restaurant was packed but service was efficient if a little hectic at times. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The show 'South Pacific' was excellent. Staging was first class and the 'theatre' is excellent with great views. The bar is well appointed and reasonably priced (unlike the hotel which is expensive!)All in all a wonderful night out and somewhere we shall return to.

Afternoon tea at Kilworth house was a taste of luxury at a bargain price! We were served an incredible array of food, we chose a savoury and sweet selection. The savoury was our first course, quail eggs, homemade quiche with a delicious chutney, a tempting selection of breads with various toppings, smoked salmon included. The sweet selection was a delight and all enhanced by the quality coffee served continuously. The atmosphere was of time gone by where afternoon tea was an everyday experience. Both the traditional Sunday beef which my wife had and all the other dishes were lovely. The service was attentive and quick without being obtrusive but there was time between each course to chat. despite there being two lunch sittings one never feels hurried.Apparantly there is a theatre in the grounds. An Absolute Gem in the Heart of the Countryside! I’m not from around the area, but during my stay, I found myself coming back to The Staff of Life Pub every single day—and with good reason! The food here is simply out of this world. From the mouth-watering tapas, which were a delightful mix of flavors and textures, to the traditional roast dinner that was as comforting as it was delicious, everything was cooked to perfection. And don’t even get me started on the apple pie—it’s truly to die for. Each bite was a slice of heaven, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Beyond the food, the ambience of the pub is fantastic. It has that perfect blend of warm, cozy, and welcoming, with a lively atmosphere that makes you feel at home, whether you're a regular or just passing through. The décor is charming, and the subtle lighting creates a wonderfully relaxed vibe. What really made my experience special was the incredible service, particularly from Sharon. She is such a gem—warm, attentive, and always ready with a smile. Sharon made sure that every visit was memorable and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. Whether you're local or just visiting, The Staff of Life is a must-visit. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are simply unbeatable. I’ll definitely be back!
