Really lovely pub, amazing food (catered for my Gluten allergy well - coeliac) and really lovely service from our waitress. Dog friendly too!

The service was excellent, we had a really personable experience and felt well looked after by the new manager. Food was pretty good and great drink option.

Currently my fav pub. Superb chilled beer garden highlight of the pub, lovely staff and great atmosphere. Not sat inside yet but looking forward to a Sunday roast inside.

The Plat du Jours menu always features in our family group chat! Never disappoints, gorgeous garden with a Mediterranean feel, extensive drinks and wine list coupled beautifully with the outstanding food. Best in the area.

Clean and tidy, lovely staff, The food was not great for the price Yorkshire puds were extremely dry (cardboard) would be a better description, meat was tough, and our dinner came out cold, it looked pretty on the plate, we were disappointed with the staff’s response, when asking if all was ok, my daughter ordered chilli dip as a starter, I’m not sure if anyone had tasted this as it was so hot took the pleasure out of enjoying it, we do understand chilli is hot but this was beyond.

Tried the Red Lion again after it had closed again for two weeks and had just reopened again. Really want to like and be able to recommend this, as we love the sister gastro pub restaurants, The Sun in Great Easton and I had a great birthday meal at #23 in Uppingham The carte du Jour offer of a selected main for £10 is exceptional value, we had the Sea Bass, which was well presented and cooked. But, the service is so inconsistent. We were greeted well, given a choice of table. Ordered our food and wine and then patiently waited. After half an hour, no sign of the wine, eventually managed to get attention of the staff and complained. But the food arrived before the wine. Unfortunately, the service at a previous visit a few weeks ago, wasn't great either The service at The Sun and #23 is exceptional, so please can the Red Lion get it right? I know it's tough for hospitality businesses atm and really want the pub to succeed, so hoping to be able to give you 5 stars in the future

Beautiful garden area and food was really tasty and good quality, the plat du jour offer for £10 is amazing, my husband had the lamb and leek potato rosti, which was delicious. The staff were all really friendly with a great atmosphere. Will return to try out the homemade pizzas cooked on the outdoor pizza oven and would definitely recommend this lovely village pub to friends and family.

This place is truly amazing, friendly staff, happy atmosphere and the food was very good the lamb shoulder melted in your mouth. Plus it's dog friendly, no car park but parking on the roadside is fine.

Great atmosphere and really lovely staff. We’ve been coming here for years amongst the different owners etc & always recommended the pub. The food isn’t as good as we remembered, the menu we had on that day was quite small, I think about 5 mains? We all had the chicken burger and an alcoholic drink, spent around £80 but left feeling dissatisfied with the flavour of the food and most of us left a portion of the burger on our plates. Definitely could do with some seasoning on the chicken and you couldn’t taste the blue cheese. 5/10 for the food. Great place for drinking and for a younger crowd.

Hey, I had an awesome time at the Red Lion! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the stone-baked pizza was amazing. Plus, they have this great outdoor space that's perfect for chilling.

We visited The Red Lion in Great Bowden based on a recommendation for its drinks and food. While the venue itself is charming and well-appointed, my experience was far from pleasant due to the service. The older gentleman behind the bar was not welcoming at all. After ordering drinks, we sat at a table that lacked any cutlery. When the barman asked if we had booked and we said no, he seemed barely satisfied when we mentioned we just wanted drinks. I then asked if we could order food, only to be told the kitchen doesn't open until 5:30 pm and that they were fully booked. We only wanted to order a side of triple cooked chips, the barman curtly reiterated they were fully booked, leaving us feeling quite unwelcome. The barman's rude demeanor was off-putting, and I certainly won’t be returning or spending any more of my money at this establishment. It's a shame such a nice place is let down by poor customer service.

We experienced a wonderful family lunch to celebrate Kate and Tom’s Civil Partnership. Our table was beautifully decorated with candles and stunning flowers. Nothing was too much trouble and there was so much attention to detail. Thank you for making this celebration so special!

I’ve been following The Red Lion on Instagram for months and whenever they post a picture of their food, I’m always sending it to my partner saying we need to try!! We still have the holiday blues so thought it would be nice to venture out of our local area for date night, and so The Red Lion was our choice and we are so happy we chose to go! They don’t have an extensive menu, but I always think that’s a sign that the food must be good. The main dishes they do are burgers, pizzas, and salads. They have an array of starters too! We both opted for pizzas with myself going for the Cotto de Fungi pizza which had ham, mushrooms, mascarpone, and thyme on it. The only thing I can say is wow. Their pizzas are exceptional🙌🏼. All pizzas are cooked fresh and had the best quality ingredients. We also ordered a side of fries which were SO yummy. The general atmosphere of the pub was so calm and relaxing. As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed by the staff and greeted with smiles. The lovely Francesca served us and made our experience so easy and enjoyable🫶🏻. A spot that is a bit out of the way for us, but somewhere we will definitely be revisiting!

Nice pub, lovely Mediterranean garden. Food and drink pricey (pizza is definitely overpriced for what it is) but is fine. Not a bad meal, just a bit expensive for what you get. Probably a nice place to go as a couple but we were a group of lads. Probably could have done with some music to add to the atmosphere.

Had heard great things about the Red Lion however we were massively disappointed. We were seated outside in the beer garden for dinner at 7 just as it was starting to get quite cool outside. We assumed that this was because it was busy inside so didn’t ask to move indoors. In hindsight we would definitely have asked to be seated indoors as the notion of sitting outside on some garden furniture simply had not crossed our minds when booking a table for ‘restaurant dinner’ as our reservation confirmation said. We had 2 of the light bites to start which were really excellent and expectations were set very high. This raised the question if you’re this good at food why limit yourselves to pizzas and burgers? Do more like these!! Unfortunately though, for some odd reason the menu is then limited to purely pizza and burgers. The pizza was no better than okay and by the time it arrived it was starting to get cold outside. The pizza did not stay warm for long either and at nearly £20 each they were outrageously overpriced and not just because of how quickly they got cold, if I were setting a price for them based on their quality it would be about £8-11. Furthermore you would need to have a world class detective with you to have found the sausage on one and the cheese on the other however having waited long enough for our food I just wanted to eat so decided against raising an issue at the time. Overall a disappointing experience given the high praise we had heard about the place. I don’t mind paying what we paid for dinner when you’re paying for quality but it did feel like for that price you would have expected the same quality that we got from the starters from the mains as well. Having customers who have booked to come for dinner sit outside to eat without offering an indoor option when the indoor space was completely unused seems like a total waste of space and I’m confident we would have had a better evening if we had been indoors. Final piece of feedback, I had to go inside to the bar to ask for the bill as it wasn’t brought to us. The server behind the bar who gave me my bill didn’t bother to ask if everything had been alright or if we had enjoyed our meal. If they had I would have given a short summary of this feedback there and then and probably not bothered writing a google review.

First time visit for Birthday celebrations did not know this place existed Great service food good quality and superb range of drinks

Whilst my partner and I are regulars to this establishment, we decided to celebrate my partner’s birthday with family (1st time there) and we’re so glad we did. I had reserved a table in advance for our evening visit on Sat 24th June (the venue was very busy on our arrival) and we were seated in the garden area. The weather had been and was beautiful and that really does accentuates the beautiful gardens and outdoor seating area The Red Lion has to offer. The vibe there was a cool Mediterranean like vibe, that made the setting for a great evening to celebrate. The service was excellent as it friendly and quick. I must add the very nice touches of a complimentary drink and a dessert for my partner in celebration of her birthday. These kind of touches were not expected from us so we’re most grateful of the team for offering these. The food served was delicious and of ample portions that were complemented by an extensive drinks list too. I would add the outdoor pizza oven means you can see your pizza being cooked to order from your table, once they are freshly created from ordering: This means your pizza goes from oven to table in a matter of minutes. This all added to them tasting delicious. Overall, we had a lovely celebratory evening made even more so by the team, the setting and food and drinks offered and served. We would definitely recommend a visit to The Red Lion and we look forward to our return there too.

Wednesday night (pizza night) was great and cheap. Only reason for the loss of one star is they forgot one of the people's meals so she say there while everyone else ate. Then when she went to re-order the food she had already ordered, the waiter said they didn't have it anymore and to order something else. It would have been okay but she wanted vegetarian and the only other pizza they had to offer was only cheese.

Firstly, we have to say that we are delighted that this pub did not get converted to housing following it's fairly recent long closure. For our first visit, we tried the Sunday lunch. It was adequate, but could have been better. The beef was rather dry, and did not look as if it had been freshly carved. The meals could have been a bit hotter too. Another point to make is that one or two of the tables are tucked in gloomy corners, so ensure you make your requirements clear when reserving a table. The beer was particularly good however, and was quite reasonably priced. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout. We will certainly give the Red Lion another try though, and perhaps will have something other than a Sunday lunch, but based on our recent visit a 3 star 'average' rating is considered appropriate.

Stopped by for a working lunch and sat in the garden. The garden is stunning if the weather is good it feels like you’re in the Mediterranean! I have the crispy beef noodle salad which was absolutely delicious! My colleague had the pulled pork burger which he enjoyed too. Will definitely return!

Fantastic staff, very hospitable and friendly. The food was delicious 😋 we could bring our dog in too. Really beautiful decor and vibe. The only downside for me was the lack of non-alcoholic drinks.

An impromptu visit tonight . What can I say , amazing meal , top quality food and lovely ambiance. China made us feel very welcome from the start and nothing was to much trouble . Absolutely lovely young lady and a credit to the red lion . Steaks were cook to perfection and my step daughter ate all of hers ( Totally unheard of !) Highly recommend! We will certainly be back soon :) thank you!

Excellent locally sourced food with great service . This is our 4th visit and it has always been very very good 😊 Country deco inside first class and outdoor garden ideal for summer time .

Very nice staff and good food. Slow service but everything else makes up for it. Had pizza, burger and Sunday roast. It s all exceptionally tasty and good. Atmosphere is great inside aswell as outside. Drinks r good, could have a few more soft drink options but all good. Staff are trying hard but could be a bit better organised and as I said, slow service on multiple occasions when I went there. For example we waited 45 minutes for Sunday roast last time I went…it s not an issue really but if u have a toddler that’s going nuts it changes the experience.

Very unsure how this place doesn’t have a solid 5*, so thought I’d add a review to contribute! The food is beautiful, so much flavour packed in. We went for a Sunday roast, and the lamb I had was so tender it practically fell apart on the fork. The gravy was the best I’ve had, and I don’t say that lightly as a northerner. The staff are lovely people, attentive and friendly but not smothering. We’ve booked in for Christmas Day now and the menu looks beautiful, and I just know it’s be a cosy gorgeous day with an incredible lunch!

Just came back from a group dinner of 8. The menu is simple with just burgers and pizzas and every item on the menu we tried (everyone tried something different) was very very delicious! We all loved the food and the portion sizes were big! Now to the negatives; The bar area is super bright and the restaurant is super dim, quite disproportionate. When we asked for mustard they didn't have it. When we asked for salt they said they only have ONE salt shaker so they came to pick it back up from our table. When we asked for the wifi, our waiter said that the manager doesn't trust him with the wifi so he can't give it to us even if he wanted to! It's not a cheap place. The prices might reflect the food but definitely not the service. The place just feels off and it is a shame because the kitchen is brilliant. Hope they change their staff or train them for the service.

An expensive pint but nice surroundings

Saturday lunch time- place was dead. The menu is quite limited and a touch expensive. The food was ok, ambitious but somehow didn't quite hit the mark. I had the lamb burger (good favour combo, but a little dry/overcooked) other diner had prawn salad bowl. Staff are friendly enough. Decor is strange, managed to remove lot of character from a nice old building.

I cannot recommend this venue highly enough for a special event. We held our wedding vow renewal here on the August Bank Holiday weekend. We had 50 guests, but the quadrant can accommodate double that amount comfortably. Luckily, we had fabulous weather, but the tables can be moved around with umbrellas and there are booths with heating which can seat 8-10 people. Miles and his team are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. The staff arrived early on the day to help us with everything. We had content on all of the TV screens within the booths, we dressed the area exactly as we wanted, we could choose our own music, there is a dedicated bar and toilets, so you will be completely self contained. We have to give a big shout out to Miles, Anais, Natalia and Archie for their amazing service throughout the day, and of course to the chefs for our fantastic food. Our day was perfect and all of our guests enjoyed it too. Thank you Red Lion.

We held an event in the Courtyard Garden in July and it was perfect! The venue was amazing, food was fab, and the staff super helpful. Miles and his team were really accomodating with all our requests. The garden is a great setting for events of 30-60 people and there is shelter in case of rain. It has a really lovely atmosphere and I would absolutely book again.

Had a super lunch in beautiful surroundings. Archie and Natalie looked after us really well. So friendly and professional. Nowhere quite so pretty in the area for a drink Would definitely go again and have recommended to others

We went for Lunch here last Saturday. What a great job they have done with seating area outside, a really nice place to sit and eat.The food was very good, best burger I have had for a long time. What really made the Lunch though was the excellent service, even though they had a large wedding party on, the staff were excellent. In particular our waitress Milly, very professional and knowledgeable on the menu, excellent recommendations and very attentive. She deserves 5 stars on her own !! We will be back.

Slow staff, bowl of fries made it before the two drinks. Told we could have the table for an hour and a half which is understandable, we hadn't booked however, after 25 minutes asked to leave due to the table being booked despite the girl checking the bookings before seating us. One really lovely waitress who was attentive and managed to bring the bill within minutes which is a new experience from previous visits and having to wait around 15 minutes just to get this. Lovely pub, much prefer the Sun inn and The Neville due to the staff being evidently far more competent and accurate with the timings on the tables. More staff training required.

What a fantastic place to visit. Me and my partner spontaneously found this lovely little place only 10 minutes from us and it majorly exceeded our expectations. The Red Lion is probably my favourite thing in the area and without a doubt the best pub I’ve been to. The outdoor area is beautiful, unique and well maintained throughout the year. Perfect place to be on a sunny day, with table service available (different from average pubs). The inside is cosy and elegant. The food is delicious- from the prawn tempura, to the burgers and the authentic pizza. The team is friendly and welcoming. I like to visit The Red Lion whenever I can- sometimes just for cocktails, sometimes to celebrate special occasions or even for NYE dinner. Thank you!

First time here today, and well worth the visit. Very stylish interior, friendly staff, and the food was creative and delicious. My wife had "The Lion" (a coffee brisket / pulled pork burger) and I had "The Bird" (a Southern Fried chicken burger). Importantly for us, the pub is dog friendly, and they allowed Alea to eat inside with us, kindly providing a sausage for her, which she loved. Well worth a visit.
