Very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble with my food allergy. We had Sunday roast which was delicious and plentiful and after a short break we found room for dessert. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

Dangerous massive Pitbull allowed to roam freely in the bar growling at children. Dangerous animals shouldn't be around children. Disgusting.

As this pub is down the road from our extended family home we have visited many times over the past 40 years however it was disappointing today. The young bar staff were friendly and helpful, however the older staff looked miserable and the pub was very quiet except for a few locals. It used to be packed in its heyday. The menu was very limited - roast, baguettes and very little in terms of vegetarian options (2 of our party were veggie). Whilst the contents of the baguettes was good, the baguettes themselves were huge - far too much bread and then served with roast potatoes - carbs overload.

We ate at the Dog and Gun on Sat 18. We had Gammon Steak and Scampi mains, Apple Pie and Cheesecake deserts 1 & 1/2 pints Tiger, Coors lager and two glasses of white wine. All the food was well cooked and presented ( The Stilton sauce was very bland ). Servings were generous. Service was fine, The bill was for £66:05. The Dog and Gun is a traditional village pub, very welcoming and dog friendly. It is highly recommended. Paul Reynolds.

Quite a number of years since I was last here in this off the beaten track, traditional pub. Just here to visit as we know the landlady & her family which run the pub. We weren’t there to eat, but did have a couple of pints of Everards Tiger, which was excellent. The staff were friendly & hospitable. The pub had a nice, locals atmosphere about it. Some outside seating is also available. We’ll definitely visit again.

Our first visit to The Dog and Gun today for Sunday lunch. The pub is in an idyllic Leicestershire village and has a wonderful traditional pub feel, great atmosphere and dog friendly, We were shown to our table and our drinks were served promptly.after which we ordered our meals ,which once more were served promptly and we're excellent, beautifully cooked ,tasty and as good as we have had for a very long time. Well done to all involved in making our Sunday lunch a very special occasion. Many thanks Andrea and Roger

Sunday lunch was lovely apart from they put the pork crackling on the turkey dinner instead of the pork so unfortunately my sister and I were served each others meal The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the roast potatoes were delicious but we only got two, plenty of boiled new potatoes which were lovely but could’ve balanced a bit better with the roasties 😊 Lovely outside seating area and very pretty Sunday roast menu very simple but tasty, were not offered a dessert though Good price for a Sunday lunch would definitely eat there again

Beautiful pub. Food was absolutely terrible. One young girl behind the bar and taking food orders and bringing food out. !!.2 of us ordered chicken tikka strips on flatbread. ?. We got awful oblong shaped doughy bread and 3 battered strips of chicken. Nice salad but pale lukewarm chips!. Sml chicken nuggets n chips for 3 yr old. 2 round nuggets and pale cold chips. Bowl of seasonal veggies! Sml bowel with peas carrots n green beans cold swimming in water. Chicken Halumi burger. Cold pale chips and no chicken. Worst meal ever had. !!!. Won’t be going back to eat again !!!

The waitress was run off her feet working alone, not her fault. She was doing her best. However, the food was just poor, poor quality, warm not hot but on scolding hot plates, asked if it was chicken that wasn’t battered, was told it wasn’t, it was! For £15 chicken flatbread - just 3 strips of chicken, on dry uncooked, or non toasted bread. And a poor wilted salad. I ordered a chicken and halloumi burger that came with no chicken. All just a massive disappointment for £75. They did take the burger from the bill as I returned it. Shame as it’s a lovely little pub.

Called in at the last minute to grab a meal ( five mins before the last order for food) and was made very welcome despite us being last minute! Great meal and friendly staff will definitely return. Husband had his usual gammon and as always requested it to be burnt to a crisp, most places go a little easy on this request but the dog and gun ticked the box as it was done perfectly for him. Always been a favourite pub of ours shame it wasn’t more busy for 8 o’clock on a Saturday night.

First visit since new owners in. The staff were welcoming and sat us down quick, we had booked. It’s Sunday lunch on the menu. So five ordered, one pork the rest the mix of meets. Food was at the table fairly quickly. Heat coming of the plates. But had to wait for veg, felt that was poor, a small single serving dish of about 10 carrot slices and mixed beans and peas. Had to ask for salt and pepper, spoons to serve veg, offered for condiments. Given in tiny dishes. Not enough for 5 people to have each condiment. By now we all felt our meals were cooler than would be liked. Turkey and pork nice and tender. But beef, hard to cut, hard to chew. Not a tender piece. After dinner plates left on table, no one asked if we wanted a desert, plates still there when we paid to leave. Will try again. But put veg on the plate, put salt and pepper on the table. Be more generous with condiments. I know that’s a cost implication. Clear away dirty plates ASAP.

A friend and I decided to try the pub for lunch, having heard good reviews from friends and my walking group. Not having booked I was initially concerned we wouldn’t be able to get a table as the carpark was quite full. Unfortunately this was due to people going to a wake at the village hall using the pubs carpark. We ended up just about being the only people there which is such a shame as the service, atmosphere, staff and food were excellent. We both had the chicken & feta flat bread which I would highly recommend. I will go there for a meal again and will tell all my friends too.

An Absolute Gem in the Heart of the Countryside! I’m not from around the area, but during my stay, I found myself coming back to The Staff of Life Pub every single day—and with good reason! The food here is simply out of this world. From the mouth-watering tapas, which were a delightful mix of flavors and textures, to the traditional roast dinner that was as comforting as it was delicious, everything was cooked to perfection. And don’t even get me started on the apple pie—it’s truly to die for. Each bite was a slice of heaven, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Beyond the food, the ambience of the pub is fantastic. It has that perfect blend of warm, cozy, and welcoming, with a lively atmosphere that makes you feel at home, whether you're a regular or just passing through. The décor is charming, and the subtle lighting creates a wonderfully relaxed vibe. What really made my experience special was the incredible service, particularly from Sharon. She is such a gem—warm, attentive, and always ready with a smile. Sharon made sure that every visit was memorable and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. Whether you're local or just visiting, The Staff of Life is a must-visit. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are simply unbeatable. I’ll definitely be back!

We haven't been to Kilworth House for a very long time but thought it was about time to give it a another go! Well you won't be disappointed - the food in the The Wordsworth was amazing! We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and I must say that this would not look out of place! We were very well looked after. The only I would say is that they need another dish per course on the menu as there were only 3 starters, 3 main courses etc. Also it was a shame that there wasn't more people in the restaurant but I suppose it is January. We will definitely be going back!
