The art wall in the St George, all for sale. Lovely unexpected experience. And the drink isn't bad either. Seriously local pub.

A rather grubby unkempt pub. Looks initially like it should work with the standard bare brick look but it stops at that. Our table was so incredibly sticky and was in need of a good scrub. Half dead flowers in left over tonic bottles. Salt and pepper in packets. Big slash in the settee by the window. Food was below average and very disappointing. Felt like it needs a good clean and a much needed spruce up. No real need to return.

We often visit for drinks but last night we opted for dinner as well and were pleased we did. Fish & chips, sausage & mash and ham, eggs & chips all were all delicious. Service was friendly and efficient and the outside seating space is really quite good for a town pub. Next up must be the Sunday roast…

I have not been here for some years and I wasn't very impressed when I went here last night the manager seemed to have an attitude and was very unwelcoming compared to other managers that have run this place over the years. I asked a very simple question and she felt the need to belittle me rather loudly. Felt very uncomfortable so we didn't stay long. We ordered food and the condiments box was basically empty food was ok for pub food but expensive for what we got . Was not nice being treated like that especially when you are used to it being a nice friendly pub I know she will see this as she spends most of her time on laptop except when she pipes up to belittle people!!!! Barman was very sweet and very friendly.....she should maybe take a leaf out of he's book we moved on to sidewinder staff much nicer there and we felt more comfortable. Would not reccomend it's not the same pub it used to be over 13 years I have been coming here on and off with different managers she has put me off returning !

The management team has made the best of the outside space, with many of the tables under cover and with heating. We all had the burgers (chicken, salt cod and wagyu beef) and they were all excellent. Draught ales were on top form and the white wine (Trebbiano) went down well. Best of all, the service was impeccable: even though everything is currently outdoors we didn’t have to wait for anything and the young man who looked after us - I think it was Gabriel - did a splendid job.

This is my local pub so I pop in now and again. I'm always on my own but made to feel very welcome, the staff are lovely. They have a new chef and the Sunday roast today was delicious. I had the beef and it was cooked perfectly, huge amount of food that I couldn't finish, but very very nice. They also have a DJ on Sunday afternoons playing a bit of Elvis and the like, but at a volume that you can still talk, it just adds to the atmosphere. I totally recommend this place. Also garden for when the weather improves.

The staff were all lovely and we were served with a smile. We’ll be coming back on Sunday to try their roasts and I’m sure we’ll be leaving the Saint George’s with smiles on our faces. 10 out of 10

Beer is always cold, 1/2 decent wine list & a new chef, who is turning out good quality pub style food. Avoid Friday afternoons, as it gets swamped with hospital staff & seats are scarce. Great beer garden/patio, in the summer gets the sun from 1-5 ish & is a great hangout. Summary, a great local boozer, quieter after 8, but always a nice, & friendly place to hang out.

The new kitchen is producing really nice food and the Sunday roasts are great. But the choice for veggies is really limited and if you don't like goats cheese you have to eat vegan. Not only is there only one veggie dish but it never changes so friends get fed up of meeting us to eat the same thing each time. We've tried the weekday menu a few times and it is not as adventurous as I'd like (it's a bit predictable pub-grub) and, maybe we've just been unlucky, but it seems a bit hit and miss at what times they serve food during the day.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

As I usually work on Sunday's I rarely get the chance to go out and eat a Sunday roast, so today as I had booked the day off I was super excited. I had explored a Brighton fb page designated to Sunday roasts and sourced the one of the best places based on reviews, which is why we ended up here. I had never been to the St Georges so was unsure what to expect. I love the pub itself and its alternative clientele. My wife and I ordered roasts, my wife the lamb, myself the half chicken. Both roasts came with a great selection of vegetables which I liked, however all veg were slightly overdone which didn't give the meal any various textures. I feel broccoli unless cooked to order is a tough one to get right, as it can turn both in colour and texture very quickly and that's exactly what happened here. It was unattractive in colour and mushy. It did come with parsnips crisps which I believe is a signature thing here, but we were sat outside and so they blew off in the breeze. My chicken was lovely, plenty of meat, moist, tasty. My wife's lamb however was scrappy, and not a lot of it. At £11 I would expect some lovely slices. We both got given 4 extremely small roasts potatoes. 2 of those spuds were inedible, too hard to eat. The others were crispy but lacked seasoning. Ok, my review isn't the best, I expected more based on previous reviews, but I wasn't massively disappointed my the meal so much so I wouldn't go back. The biggest thing for me though and I'm a smoker, but I don't want to see the chef smoking in his uniform. Want a fag? Then change into your civvies.

We discovered this hidden gem having tried to book a table at another regular venue for Sunday lunch but found it full. The food (and subsequently found not only on a Sunday), is very good. I am a veggie, and found the food to be not only of a very high standard, but decent portion sizes too. They seem to have struck a balance very well with the portions, as some pubs just seem to overload you with food which just generates waste. The interior of the pub is a more traditional style but has been maintained well, and if all of that wasn't enough, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is also worth noting that you are welcome to take a dog into the pub too, which for me adds to the appeal of the venue.I can highly recommend this pub!

We have just moved to Brighton and have already been here several times; The food is outstanding, we tried their sweet potato chips and burgers and Sunday roast and everything was absolutely delicious, they also have a wide selection of beers; the staff is super nice (cheers to the amazing and friendly cook!) and we will surely be returning many times.

Was staying down with my brother for the weekend and he recommended we have a few beers at this pub. It's a cracking little boozer in a quaint part of Brighton but still really neat the coast. The decor inside is a mix of different brewery memorabilia which allows for a great pub atmosphere. The garden outside, has a lovely range of flowers and heaters and cover from the rain.A wide selection of board games to play if you are bored and the bar staff are friendly and welcoming. Good selection of beers and ciders and we ended up spending a vast part of our weekend at the pub. They serve food but I didn't have any. The assistant chef was a great pint though. Will pop in again next time I'm around

Decent pub I guess but the guy behind the bar on Wednesday 29th July was exceptionally rude.He mixed up the order and refused to correct it. We were ordered to pay for extra glasses of red wine.Completely ruined the mood of the evening.

Great friendly pub with always a very warm welcome from landlords, Daisy and Richard. Super on a summer evening or Sunday lunch in the courtyard garden sometimes enhanced with the music of Chris & Dom.

Just enjoyed an excellent Thursday pub quiz with five friends. Very friendly service, good pub grub and reasonably priced beers and drinks. One of the group praised the Guinness as the best he'd had in Brighton (I'll take his word for it) Three reds on the wine list doesn't offer much choice but the Australian Shiraz wasn't too shabby.......

Been here a few times now and it's becoming one of my favourite haunts. They offer delicious ales which is essential to me! Timothy Taylor's landlord is always on, accompanied by two seasonal guest ales. The staff are welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The pub garden is a great sun trap in the summer and has patio heaters for the colder months. Food is lovely, and when the kitchen is closed on a Monday they have a pizza van with delicious sourdough rustic pizzas from a wood oven, pizza and a bottle of beer for a tenner is great. A little off the beaten track, this pub is a great find and worth the extra walk.

We went here as it's near the hospital. They offered a good selection if roasts and they were all in stock. There was a decent pint of hobgoblin for a very good price for Brighton. The chef was also very attentive and enthusiastic about his frankly excellent roasts. Great atmosphere, nice old school toilets with tiles and stuff, and tasteful decor. Would definitely recommend it.

I came here with a friend while visiting someone in the hospital. The staff were all SO friendly, and the selection of drinks was good, so we popped back in for a Sunday roast, which was GREAT! The chef really takes pride in his food, and we've now eaten there a few times. They offer great veggie and vegan options as well as really nicely cooked meat options.

Traditional pub - humans, not TV and noise. Lovely sunny beer garden (heated in winter), and comfortable seating inside. Now has an excellent chef - lasagne better than in many Italian restaurants in Brighton. Pizzas Monday; choice of excellent roasts on Sunday - tender beef, splendidly cooked with good veg selection; specials (lasagne, burgers, and most days a stew and/or a fish dish) are 2 for £10 most weekdays, all freshly and carefully cooked; also vegetarian choices. Always a choice of real draught beers, well kept and reasonably priced. Decent range of wines by the glass too. Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.

I just had a delicious Sunday roast here and stayed much longer than I'd planned to. I was alone and just needed some food, but there was a DJ playing a very eclectic 60s-70s-80s mix and I ended up chatting with the people at the next table. Very friendly, and the food was delicious. I will definitely be going back!

If you ever needed a definition of bad management this is it. Poor food, bad customer service and downright aggressive personnel. My friend and I had popped in for a drink on the way home, I've frequented this pub many times over the last 10 years and I'm sad to say I'll never go back. The new landlady is rude and aggressive, accused me and my friend of trying to take drinks out of the pub (which we weren't). There seemed to be a couple of bouncers on the door that seemed more intent on intimidating people than welcoming them in. In a nutshell I'd say it was a lovely little pub that's gone downhill and I would spend your money in nicer places locally that value their locals. I will never go back.

Had a great experience at the Saint George's inn. Booked for 15 people and was made very welcome even the DJ introduced himself. The roast dinner was probably one of the best roasts I have had. There were no complaints from any of my friends and clean plates all round. Great value & a nice walk from the main part of Brighton.

The service is excellent, I took my whole family of vegetarians and we all agreed that it was the best roast we'd ever had. We all had the Wellington. The plate was piled with veggies, yorkies and cauliflower cheese. Good outdoor area and cosy indoors too. Dog friendly

I booked this restaurant for my friend’s birthday on a short break in Brighton. It is part of the M and B Chain. There were no other guests there when we arrived but a couple more tables came with 10 mins or so. We ordered wine which came swiftly and was poured. We then ordered our starters and main course. Within minutes our starters arrived. My scallops were tepid at best. Literally as soon as we finished our plates were whisked away and our main courses arrived. Every time the waitress came she poured us more wine. We finished our mains and were given the dessert menu. By this time the table next to us had just received their starters. We just felt really rushed, there were only two other tables in and it was early evening on a Monday . We declined dessert and I gave them my discount voucher for 20% off food. The bill arrived with a service charge which we refused to pay as we felt we it was service at speed. We had literally spent 45 minutes in there. The waitress practically threw my coat at me and it was only after we left that I realised they had changed my voucher so that the 20% was off drinks only. That’s shocking. We don’t have this chain as far as I know in The Midlands, but on this showing I wouldn’t go even if they did. Go here if you are in a hurry!!
