End of tourist season, so waiting for a city tour bus can be disappointing when it doesn't arrive. A walk into the centre can uncover a few sights. Lunch once ordered can quickly, food was hot, with a waterside view.

Me and my girlfriend went to meet some friends after her graduation ceremony, I went to the bar to get a pint of Stella and a au vodka pineapple, the women behind bar asked for two ids so we obliged and showed her, she snatched the id out of my girlfriends hand and was quite difficult in general round the ID situation, I went back up about 15-20 minutes later and she asked to see my id again having already seen it, I get the need to check IDs but not more than once and be rude while doing so, I wanted 4 shots and she said she needed to see 4 IDs but I pointed out two were for me and the girls ids she’d already seen, she refused to give them to me and so we took out money else where and didn’t have any problem like this

I typically love this place and all of the staff, but the manager Dan has ruined all that. He is rude and should not be working in customer service anywhere. When someone is experiencing a medical emergency, a good manager (or person) would care more about the persons health/safety and making sure they were cared for properly than collecting payment on a couple of f*%king cookies. Had he bothered to ask his staff before accusing regular patrons, he would've found they had already been paid for. This clown is ruining a good place, but until he is gone, you won’t be seeing me or my money there. Wise up Square Sail.

Daniel the general manager was incredibly rude and aggressive. I had suffered a hypo and friends got me some biscuits which were paid for. Daniel later approached me in aggressive manner telling me I hadn’t paid for the biscuits. I apologised and asked if I needed to pay? He shouted at me”yes you do”. My friend went with me to explain he’d paid for them. He shouted back at us that he hadn’t been told. I later approached him in a calm, polite manner and tried to say that he had been rude but he put his hand in my face and said I was being aggressive! He told me I had to leave, when I asked if he was serious, he said if I didn’t leave there and then, our whole party would be thrown out! Security were very polite, even apologetic, I believe they knew he was this way with customers. It was bad enough suffering a hypo and being embarrassed in front of friends, but to be treated so rudely by a manager is despicable . This man has no people skills or empathy and should not be working as a manager. I see that I am not the only one who has been treated this way by this man. Come on Wetherspoons, get your act together!

Went out with a group of friends for a celebration to Square Sail - Brayford, Lincoln. The staff were exceptionally hard working and polite but we were badly let down by a manager called Dan. Following an incident where he wrongly accused a lady of not paying for biscuits, he was aggressive, extremely rude and arrogant. A little while later, she went up to purchase a drink and politely said to Dan that he was rather rude. Dan retorted back in a most aggressive manner and told her to leave - if she did not, then he would tell the rest of the group to do so as well. It is evident that customer service does not apply in Dans case - it is known that he has an abhorrent manner. I can firmly say that I have never come across such an attitude and this lets the Square Sail down badly.

I enjoyed a hearty breakfast of two Quorn sausages, two hash browns, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, toast and dairy free spread and a few free coffee refills. A couple of the items could have been a little warmer but overall the temperature was generally acceptable. All the staff I spoke to were friendly and welcoming. The tables in the outside area were clean and cleared of any crockery and glasses and the toilet was hygienic and well maintained. It was lovely sitting in the sunshine and watching the world go by. I briefly spoke to one of the members of staff who was tidying up the displays of flowers and shrubs, complimenting her on doing a good job, adding that it makes a welcome change to some of the tacky plastic plant offerings at other establishments along the Brayford Waterfront.

A real shame to be let down by Dan who manages Lincoln square sail in Wetherspoons. A drink we had ordered on the Wetherspoons app had not turned up and after 50 minutes. When we left we asked for a refund and Dan completely refused and was being very unhelpful and rude. The security and bar staff were very pleasant and showed good customer service, as they have done for the past 15 years we have been coming here so cannot fault them at all. It’s unfortunate that Dan was an exception to this, really letting the place down. Please do avoid.

I nip in The Square Sail quite often for breakfast. Lincoln is a University city and the pub seems to be frequented and staffed by students almost exclusively. Mornings are usually pretty quiet and the breakfast can be eaten in peace. Can get very busy, particularly when Lincoln City have a home game. Would recommend The Sail for cheap food in the heart of the city.

Visited here Sunday lunchtime after leaving the Ritz wetherspoons due to lack of food. We got a table upstairs straight away, food came out quickly, we had pizza and as usual it was very nice. More than enough food as a good portion size. This isn't the quietest of pubs, it's a cheap and cheerful drop in, a lot of uni students. It is family friendly but if you are wanting a quieter experience I would suggest the The Royal William IV just up from the square sail but you will pay more

Came here for a drink with my family after graduation. After ordering drinks on the app we were refused them as one of our party members did not have a physical ID. We couldn't get a refund for the drinks we did not consume... We had to change our order to suit the apparent company policy. When the new drinks arrived we carried on with our sitting. 10 minutes later one of the servers came out assuming that the party member who didn't have ID was drinking the alcoholic drink. Which they weren't, they were having the lemonade they ordered. The server did not listen and asked us to leave. I feel this as discrimination and racism as we are Polish and the server could hear that we were foreign. He turned around to his colleague while standing behind us and was talking about us behind our backs. We could hear them. Also, there were plenty of young people who did not look of age drinking, and plenty of them were not asked for ID when drinks arrived to their tables. Will not be returning and will definitely be taking this further. Disgusting treatment.

One of the things we often like about a Wetherspoons establishment is that they are often housed in historic buildings and care is taken to retain as much of the original character as possible. The Square Sail is named after the barges which used to visit Lincoln when it was a busy port, but is located on the modern wharf and the environment does lack atmosphere and character. Staff seemed very busy - the window where glasses and plates were being left after having been collected from the tables was constantly overflowing, but they still managed to be friendly and give good service. Whilst not following a vegetarian diet, having had some recent horrors of pink meat recently (although not at a Wetherspoons) I have resolved to only eat vegetarian dishes when eating away from home and, viewing the familiar menu with a vegetarian meal in mind, I found it a little lacking. I had the Pasta Alfredo, with no additions, and suspect that the sauce comes ready made. It was pleasant enough but nothing special and left my appetite wanting. There isn't anything inherently wrong with the Square Sail, maybe my delight in the Wetherspoons brand is waning; you will certainly get a varied menu (if you are a meat eater), good value and quick and efficient service.

My younger sister whom is a University student at Lincoln was mistreated by your staff yesterday. She arrived at The Square Sail yesterday in her household group of 9 whom she lives with in halls (shared flat with shared kitchen and lounge- A HOUSEHOLD). The covid restrictions state when meeting outside "in a group of any size from up to two households" abides by the rules. Therefore, they were within their rights to queue for a table at your establishment. They chose to split into a five and three to be seated easily on your available tables. The group of three were seated and the five were left in the queue, told that they would be seated when a table became available. They stood in the queue waiting for over an hour (whilst others behind were seared) to then be told by a waiter that one manager was finishing and "knew they were with the table of three" so had informed the new manager to not seat them. After over an hour of waiting, they were told they could only get a table if the three left. I want a full explanation as to why this group of one household were not allowed into your establishment? Why they were not told sooner? Why they had to wait for an hour until they were told this ridiculous excuse? What a grosse and legally flawed way to treat paying customers. This was the first time my sister had been out since lockdown. Her and her flatmates abided by all covid rules throughout lockdown and consequently were looking forward to having a meal out. You and your staff upset this group of young adults whom left to go home after standing around for ages. I want a full explanation and apology.

Impersonal facemask and visor wearing man we could hardly understand DEMANDED we washed our hands before entering even though we had literally just washed them before coming out, he then frogmarched us to our isolation booth i mean seat, where we sat in awe at all the signage plastered everywhere saying what we can and cant do (hardly anything as it happened), totally non-necessary one way systems made going to the bar or toilet to something akin to 'the knowledge' taxi test. Whilst all the while masked up, impersonal staff were literally scrubbing and spraying everything and everywhere on a near constant basis. The whole place seemed quiet and subdued and we couldnt wait to leave. It was more a trip to a clinic for a minor operation than a trip to the pub.I know there are rules in place but this was too much, absolute overkill which is at odds to other Wetherspoons pubs we've visited since re-opening.It certainly needs to relax this almost totatarian approach before we even consider visiting again, which is a shame as we live nearby and used to visit regularly.

The mains door open into the main bar area so everytime the door is opened the bottom floor feels a rush of cold air. The toilets are situated upstairs and are a bit of climb to get to. So after deciding what we was getting she'd gone up to order food. We wasnt drinking we just wanted a burger and a coke- so as she went up go order she was asked for ID. (For a burger and a coke) shes almost 21. As she said shes not drinking shes just getting a come and a burger she was told if she didnt have any ID she had to leave. I waited at the bar to speak to someone about this but was brushed aside and nobody came and spoke to me. I am really not happy with this service and the staff need a course of customer service skills.

Firstly, for a while now it stinks. Previous poster is correct - either vomit or sweaty feet. Awful.

If you enjoy the smell of vomit everywhere this is the place to go! All away from the entrance to upstairs. If you think it’s a one off you’re sadly mistaken. Even after the refurb it’s still soaked in. Bliss

This development of Brayford was not here the last time I visited the fine City of Lincoln,. It's been tastefully done, and the Spoons has, as usual, taken upon itself one of the local traditions in the Square Sail. We had an ascent of Steep Hill plus cathedral visit to come, so this lunch was most welcome, in my case, a cottage pie special at £3.99. The staff here were lovely: we couldn't have felt more welcome.

Ordered on the app. Food arrived before the drinks and I went to the bar to see where our drinks were after 25 minutes! Saw them sat at the bar and someone asked me if I could take them myself. Food was good but service was incredibly subpar.

Popped in for a drink and catch up with my son and his uni mates. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the 3 sides for £10.25 - 8” pizza and haloumi fries and a bowl of nachos. All nicely Presented and cooked really well. Toilets need a bit more regular checks on cleanliness but staff were very busy. All staff polite and courteous.

Nice setting on the Brayford, strolled in about 12 on BH Monday and was a bit surprised to find it virtually full, but managed to find a table for 4 right at the back, after about 10 minutes we cleared and wiped the table ourselves as no one had appeared.

If you want a decent pint, lots of choice, good creamy head, served at right temperature - this is your place. Food good also. All at the right price.

If you want value, this is the place to come. Half the price of neighbouring restaurants. Had a pint of Guinness and a lamb shank for just over £10. Very tasty and impressed my German visitor. Possible a bit less fancy than the places nearby but so much better value. You choose.

Got seated and ordered our food. Disappointed with what arrived no bacon so had to ask for it and then it came on a separate plate and was cold. There was no butter with the toast. It’s not like it was busy I mean come on get it right. We got fed up asking in the end. We are here a year ago and never had problems like this. The place has clearly gone downhill.

Let's face it, what they do they do very well. You pay your money and take your chance. Standard operational procedures more, or less, guarantee a fairly uniformed experience in many of their outlets. Overall the Lincoln hostelry offers good value and at times hectic service. The food has always been well presented and in a very timely fashion.

All the good things from a JDW, value and choice of drink and food. Fairly busy, but slow service, perhaps another staff member needed? OK, but nothing special. Good central location

Used this bar on a few occasions, we decided to meet our friends there for a sat afternoon drink , the bar was very busy as with most of Wetherspoons. The bar is spacious with an upstairs balcony and a larger bar downstairs , the toilets are situated upstairs as with most of there pubs with a disabled toilet downstairs. For the amount of staff they had on we found the service very quick with using the app to order food and drink overall great place to eat and drink

Always highly rated Wetherspoons until yesterday. Our food arrived tepid and service was slow. No staff around to complain to. May be good value for money but you need to get better chef in as well as more staff (and yes my partner is a chef and he didn't rate the food either!)

As more and more people become enlightened regarding the inherent cruelty and suffering associated with consuming animal flesh, internal organs, calves milk and other animal products, pubs and restaurant chains have responded to the increased demand by offering more compassionate choices. Thankfully Wetherspoons is one of these forward looking companies and it is encouraging to see the variety of vegan options increasing all the time in the breakfast, small plates, salads, deli and main meals, sides and desserts menus.

So beautiful spring day, a walk down the canal side into Lincoln with my wife and trusty cocker spaniel Milo eventually resting at an the outside seating area of the Square Sail within Lincoln’s Bayswater harbour. This area has 4 small round metal tables/chairs within a small rope area of the pavement.

Always make a beeline for The Square Sail when in Lincoln, probably one of my favourite 'spoons anywhere. Enjoyed a few beers and snacks on a very sunny afternoon by Brayford Pool, and returned for an excellent breakfast the following morning. Lovely pub, great value.

Just been to the Square Sail Lincoln, ordered the meal within less than ten minutes saw the Valentines Special went to the bar to change it. The response was sorry too late, it was a curry day and a curry we had ordered. The curry turned up much later after the conversation with the manager, just like faulty towers sorry the chef as opened the tin. I wouldn't care but the Valentinesi meal was going to cost us more. Very poor Square Sail and I have shares in this company as well. really naffed off. The meal was not ready when the change was requested and you could have changed it, a curry hundreds sold on a Thursday on this occasion poor service.

I had a disappointing experience at the Lincolnshire Poacher. The food quality was very poor and definitely not worth the price. To make matters worse, the customer service was unhelpful and unwelcoming. I wouldn’t recommend dining here and will not be returning. B Smith

Visited the crown and arrows and had the pleasure of meeting Polly. We come regularly as a family and bring our baby with us. She interacted with our little one and even gave him a toy “hungry horse”. Excellent member of staff, really made our evening with her kindness and witty jokes!!!
