Great sports pub. Went to watch England play Switzerland whilst having food and drinks. Pre-booked a table & was very pleased that we were placed close to a screen (as requested). The staff were very helpful & pleasant. Pint of Hells lager was £7 so the going rate I guess for the city. Ordering food was simple enough but value for money perhaps not so. Pie, chips, mash & cabbage (x3) was OK although the quantity of mash was pretty small (went to pizza express after the match because we were still hungry). Suzanne chose the chicken Kiev but unfortunately it was really really dry. She was spitting feathers! Not great. Also, to my dismay, the pies didn't come with gravy. Now come on!! How can that be?? Even a bit of Bisto would have been OK. Us Northern lads love our gravy! So, 4 meals. No starters & no desserts. Grand total of £90. Not great value for money at all. Did enjoy the match though.

As someone who works in London, but doesn’t live in London, this is very much a pub! I red a previous review about a location for after work drinks and that is exactly right. We booked a table for early evening and it was a. Dry busy fully pub with groups of people congregating and drinking. We were the only people eating. A number of items weren’t available and one of the reasons we wanted to go here was for the pie menu, which in reality isn’t available at the time we went nor was the pie of the day. What food that was available and left was was lovely, brilliantly cooked and the service fabulous, though please note, the service charge added to the bill (12.5%) does not go to,the staff. For non UK residents this charge is not a local tax and goes directly to the company. As a pub, It is very loud and no chance of a conversation at normal volume, and when eating the vast number of people means you end up getting knocked and nudged at your table constantly. I suspect this would be a lovely venue out of peak drinking times. My advice is a greater place to,socialise and drink, not for,an evening meal as a couple!

We popped into the square pig whilst my boyfriend was here in a London for a job interview round the corner and I was really pleased with the beef pie (my bf went for the burger). The food was really good … our server Rose was very attentive, and it was a nice place to stumble upon!

My colleagues and I are regular patrons of The Square Pig as our office is in the vicinity. As we come here often we have sampled many of the dishes and I must say the new Spring menu caused quite a stir in our office when it dropped earlier this month. Many junior members of staff were salivating at the thought of it! My particular favourites are the pie and profiteroles. The service here is fantastic and Rose always recognises us with a warm welcome here when we visit :) Look forward to cumming back again!

Love this place, food amazing so tasty and great choice especially the deals with the small platters. Mostly it’s the service, the wonderful Roz, she makes us so welcome and is the perfect host I would recommend this place very highly!

We were disappointed that most of the small plates on the menu were not available. The food we did have was very good. Service was friendly.

My partner and I visited on a short city-break from Bath, and I must say that I think we have discovered a “hidden gem”. I had a wonderful ploughman’s, and my partner went for the steak sandwich. Our server Rose was very hospitable. I’ll definitely return on my next city-break.

We work in an office in the local area and often attend The Square Pig - it’s our “go to” pub for a relaxed catch up with either colleagues or business contacts, and always very helpful staff - especially Rose - and great quality food!

The Square Pig is a regular haunt for my office which is nearby, We always find Rose here very welcoming and the food is great. The CEO of our company says the ploughman’s board is ‘top drawer’ so a strong recommend on that one. Look forward to coming here again regularly in the future.

It had a refit last year and has lost the pub feel. Now table service with just warm food. Menu is average and nothing spectacular which is a shame as it could be better given it's table service and a bit pricey considering portion sizes. When the food came out it was disappointing to say the least. We had fish finger sandwiches which were on the dry side as overcooked and the bread was toasted and cold, no fries despite being mentioned on the menu so we ordered them but got charged extra! The steak sandwich said it came with onion rings, but not if they dont have them and don't tell you! To be fair they did give us a portion of fries instead but only when we asked for them in replacement for onion rings. If we hadn't been ravenous we would have gone somewhere else. Won't be back unless told it has improved.

The food came out quickly and those in our group who had the sandwiches were happy with the quality, I had the pork bites which were unfortunately mostly fat. The thing that mostly marred our experience was that the pub was really cold, and most of our group didn't remove their winter coats throughout the lunch. I'd try it again in the summer for a quick work lunch as the service was quick and friendly.

We picked this venue for our Christmas lunch and I was pleased on all accounts. Sam, the manager, did a great job in the run up to get everything organised and patiently answered all my questions. On the day, everything ran smoothly, again thanks to great organisation and amazing service. The food was tasty, excellently presented, and overall much better than you'd expect from any restaurant around Christmas time. The feedback I got from colleagues was positive and I wouldn't hesitate to visit again!

I organised a team meal here and it went very smoothly! Sam and his team were very helpful with sorting the pre-orders, and accommodating any changes the day of. The food was delicious and our office team were very thankful of the lovely service we received.

Booked well in advance for a fairly big table, for a work event. The two guys behind the bar around 6pm were amazing, sad to say the woman that joined later was very unpleasant. We were really excited to come here for a leaving party and Christmas event. Started off really nicely, we booked a table for 5pm. Most people turned up after 5:30 pm as work ran over. It was really nice to start we got a drink while we discussed work etc. when to get a second drink a couple people ordered food. A group of us go to the bar to order food after 7, they told us kitchen closed at 7. This was not mentioned when we arrived, nor in the booking. We asked to buy shots and the lady on the bar told us we don’t do deals on shots here, you should go somewhere else. We decided to stay for another drink and decided on a second round of drinks (we knew we would not get a deal) she then said you really need to leave. 8pm we have had 2-3 drinks each and a shot or two. The place is empty asides from a few small tables. This woman was giving us dirty looks and attitude and genuinely making it a very uncomfortable experience. We even offered to go to McDonald’s or Waitrose for snacks to stay here longer and she told us to leave. Maybe if you go when the two nice men behind the bar are working that originally served us are working you’ll have a nice time. But today was a massive let down for what was supposed to be a big celebration which was clear in the booking. :(

I don’t normally leave reviews but we were greeted with such a warm welcome that I had to. Don’t skip this venue if you’re after an afternoon of cosy drinks!

Walked in last night because I saw there were several reservations listed as open. After walking in, was told they weren’t able to help me because they had a private party. I expressed that there were reservations listed online only to be told “sorry.” Tonight, I actually booked a reservation for 9pm to grab some dessert and drinks (the reservation required a credit card by the way). I walked in only to be told, very rudely might I add, that sorry, the kitchen was closed. I was speaking to the lady behind the bar and asked why I was able to make a reservation for 9 (there were even later bookings open), only to be told sorry I can’t help you. If you aren’t open or can’t take a reservation, please be responsible and update your booking settings. Extremely disappointing and apparently both the booking mishap and the rudeness from staff is not a first time occurrence judging from some reviews listed below. Bottom line, don’t waste your time.

Actually had lunch here two days in a row. Lovely staff and great food. I am a fan of their small plates 3 for £17. Stuffed ! Very much like the goat cheese & honey flatbread and the mushroom bao bun. I may hit it at least one more time before I head out of London !

The service was wonderful. Very friendly and efficient but unfortunately the noise level was too much for us to chat and the music was very loud. Also we sat by a door with people coming in and out and not closing the door which was irritating as I had to keep getting up to close it.

Considerable mix-up on arrival. Told the kitchen was not open until 6.30, despite booking for 5.00 and needing to be in a theatre at 7.00pm. This was corrected, but left us time only for small plates, before we had to leave. Staff handled the situation well, admitting their fault and did all possible, but we still had to find a meal after the show, making us late for trains etc. One party had a journey of three hours. The small plates of food we had however, were very good.

food and service always amazing at the Square Pig. Especially the small plates and Steak Sandwich. Rosa is always a excellent host guessing our order before we have even decided ourselves - and always makes you feel welcome.

The beef items on the menu wasn’t available making it an even smaller choice. Starters were lovely, main course , one came out and we had to wait at least ten minutes for the others.

Waitress was very offhand, like we were disturbing her. Food was lacklustre and they ran out of coffee! In central London! Told they weren’t allowed to buy any from a local shop and had to wait for a delivery 😮

Although a very handy pub if stopping through Holborn, the food was extremely average and the price of a pint was exorbitant. Our reservation of three people was notable less significant to them than other larger parties (understandable, but it was made blindingly obvious this was the case) - they hadn't bothered to set aside a table for us, whilst plenty of others were marked 'Reserved for X from Y' Most tempting item of food on the menu (the burger) was unavailable, but we weren't told that until we tried to order them. Layout isn't ideal, rather than the front doors, most people seem to come and go via the patio area, so human traffic by our table was relentless.

Food took over an hour to come and we had to leave before food came.

This is a spacious restaurant at the side of Red Lion Square Gardens. It is easy to get to using the tube or bus (5 mins walk from Holborn Station). There is a variety of food on the menu (from fish and chips to Caesar’s salad), which are all reasonably priced, bearing in mind this is London! Drinks are reasonably priced too. Food portions are reasonable. Staff are attentive and we waited less than 15 mins for our food order. The toilets are in the basement of the restaurant, disabled toilets on the ground floor. The toilets are clean, the only criticism I make is that there were no papers towels to dry your hands with after washing them, Overall a positive experience and I would certainly visit this restaurant again.
