Booked for a meal as it was one of only a few places that mentioned allergies on their menu (we have quite a few intolerences/allergies) And they coped amazingly! We are used to just one or two options but they managed to offer quite a few. And the food was delicious 😋 The staff were friendly and it was reassuring when one admitted they weren't confident in helping navigate the menu, but asked another who checked it all with the kitchen first. The atmosphere is also great with a well used bar to one side full of locals and a comfortable and modern yet cosy restaurant. Thouroughly recommend

Had an excellent time! Food was beautiful and tasted great. Was especially surprised by the beef cheek croquettes, which were very crispy but still tender inside. The sauces that came with the fish and chips were homemade too! Service was fast and very friendly. And best of all dogs are welcome. ~ Edit: £5 for an Appetiser was a bit much tho!

We visited twice. The first visit, was unbooked,an evening meal around 1930 ,my partner had muscles, perfect. I had the suet pudding, it was wonderful. The second visit was booked,1630 on Saturday (23/11/24 ) afternoon. My partner had katsu curry,it lacked,it was OK,wouldn't order again. I had the larger of the fish and chips on offer on the lunch menu, the only menu available. It was only passable, the batter was nice, the fish was bland ,thin and very small. The chips were great and home made tarter sauce, lovely. For around £18,I don't think so. So disappointing after the first visit. No we didn't complain, what was the point,it was OK,but should of been fantastic,as the first visit was. The service on both visits was good.

We had booked a 90 minute bottomless brunch on a Saturday. The food was great but that was about it. Service was terrible in 90 minutes we had 4 drinks for a bottleless brunch. Everything we went to the bar we got told somone would come to us it was like they sat us down and forgot we were there. The place was pretty much empty but had at least 4/5 staff on. We left after the brunch even though we had a table booked for after. Definatly wouldn't recommend. Other lovely places far better in the area

I don't often write reviews (unless I’m specifically asked to 🤣) but felt I HAD to for the Springer Spaniel - on our way back from Padstow and googled places to go for a roast off A30 and SO glad we took a little detour to stop at this pub. It is the nicest roast I have had in a long, long time - meat was cooked perfectly, gravy was divine and all the veg was so tasty, well seasoned and just the right amount. I would happily travel almost 2 hours to come back for another one! Staff were really friendly without being overbearing, really cosy, country pub atmosphere with a log burner (I know this sounds weird but we also loved the sinks in the toilets). Reasonably priced and worth every penny.

Our second visit to The Springer Spaniel having visited about 9 years ago when it was disappointing! What a difference - the young staff are friendly and efficient. The starters and mains were all delicious and were served on nice hot plates. The desserts were lovely and good choice of excellent wines. It's obviously a popular place as it was buzzing and fully booked. Good value for money too. We'll be back!

One of the friendliest pubs we've ever been to. We were looking for a dog friendly pub which served meals on a Sunday evening and stumbled across the Springer Spaniel at the last minute and boy did it not disappoint. A lovely warm welcome from Mia and the other female waitress (we didn't get her name). Both are a credit to the pub. They made us feel so welcome. We sat in the bar near a crackling fire and enjoyed a fabulous meal. If you get the chance and are in the area you have to visit - you won't regret it!

This was booked because of the reviews, we was expecting a typical pub, but it exceeded our expectations massively, the restaurant is lovely, the menu has unusual foods I haven't seen on a menu before. I had the black pudding scotch egg for starters. It was amazing, the rest if the courses where just as good, the food was the best I've had in a long long time, the service was great. Couldn't fault the restaurant at all.

I gave 4 stars for food, but we only had snacks. I gave 4 stars for the value for money. The atmosphere was lovely, fire was lit and welcoming. 3 stars for service - the staff are incredibly young as seem to have a lot to learn. One girl just seemed to be wandering around with an i-pad trying to look important giving orders, rather than helping the staff actually serve. One guy was clearly in training, for which she seemed no help at all, just again kept giving orders. Little things like carrying drinks over by hand (on the rim where we will be drinking from) big no from us. Use a tray?! People stood at the bar waiting, and yet thr phone was being answered first? Big no, and the people waiting muttered unhappy words to each other on this. I don't mind paying close to £10 for a glass of wine, but at least get some decent glassware in! Bog standard "pub" wine glasses just don't cut it anymore. Cocktails we had were good. The welcome we had when we got there was friendly and loved that we could take our dog. Overall, it was okay. We'd probably be back as don't live far (Launceston), but not for anything special.

Lovely selection of veg, all very tasty, although my pork was very fatty. Nice puddings, decent wine. Only 2 non alcoholic beers, both lagers, which was a shame. Friendly and helpful staff, although slow service - we would not have completed 3 courses in the 2 hour time limit.

While away on a weekend break, we were looking for places to eat out. We stumbled across the springer spaniel. Initially we called to enquire when they stopped serving food due to it being a Sunday. The lady on the phone was very polite and helpful. We then booked a table for 7:30pm. After arriving 15 minutes late, the lady that greeted us, welcomed us with a smile and seated us at a table in the restaurant. The setting was beautiful and the atmosphere was amazing. For starters, we ordered the black pudding scotch egg and the exotic mushrooms. Both of these dishes exceeded our expectations! For the main, we ordered the cheesy pasta steak with cheesy garlic break, which was a new dish on the menu and the tower burger with a side of fries and coleslaw. Again, both of these dishes were delicious. Due to neither of us drinking alcohol, we asked the waitress if there were any mocktail options. There didn’t have any on the menu but they were more than happy to make some for us and they were delicious. We even got two to take away. Over all, the experience, food and service in the springer spaniel was amazing and we would like to thank everyone that made it a very special evening.

We were seated in the snug and it was a lovely little area, there were board games which the little one enjoyed. Food was fabulous and actually reasonably priced, some things didn't come out in time but this was discounted off of the bill at the end as a sorry from the staff. A lovely Sunday lunch - well cooked, lots of veg, fantastic Yorkshire puds. Staff very attentive and friendly. Only slight disappointment was the strawberry sundae desert - looked like it had just been thrown into a Coke glass, it was 90% strawberry ice cream (and not nice ice cream ..), a thin layer of cream in the middle, maybe one sliced strawberry, and something hard at the bottom which I couldn’t discern. That was it, no toppings or anything to make it look appetising. As the rest of the meal was great, can’t understand what had happened with the taste and appearance of the desert. Would definitely return though, but probably avoid desert.

On entering was welcomed by a friendly member of the team who gave us a choice of tables to sit at. Great choices of drinks and bar snacks aswell as a lunch/ dinner/ side order menu aswell as the very popular Sunday menu. Nice open bar area with a more intimate feel further into the pub for those cosy lunches/dinners. Another area with tables and also a bookshelf which also has boardgames for people to use, which is a great idea. There is a beer garden for those nice spring summer days and evenings. A perfect place to have your special occasion here whether it's for 2 or 12 people, they have your every need. Welcoming GastroBar pub where our dogs were welcome too. The food was ok/good - pork belly was a little dry. The main issue was the size (lack of) of the ‘Fish Wreck’: ok portion of haddock, 2 Panko prawns and the tiniest sliver of bream (from the tail). This seemed particularly mean considering the price. We did tell the very good waitress who dutifully said that all feedback was good feedback and that she’d pass it on. It was a shame really as it put the dampeners on an otherwise pleasant experience. Would I go again? Doubtful - definitely not worth the price paid.

I don't normally do reviews, but on this occasion I feel I have to. We spent a lovely six-week vacation in England, staying with family in Tavistock, who took us here for a meal. It was busy, but the Christmas food was scrummy and the atmosphere excellent. The wee girl who served us was especially polite and charming. During the course of the meal, I overheard a member of staff talking to guests on another table. All I can say is that this woman has a rather unfortunate manner - and probably doesn't know it. Later, the same woman was taking payment for another table and again, I thought her manner was most condescending to the poor couple - and my husband agreed. My daughter suggested we eat here as she has had a good experience in previous visits and I was astonished to learn that the woman in question is the manager! We own a guest house in Edinburgh and we train all our staff to a high standard, which includes speaking to customers in a polite manner. In spite of this manager, the staff we interacted with were impeccably mannered. When we visit again, I'll suggest we eat elsewhere, as it took the shine off the night.

Unfortunately our lovely meal was disrupted on 4 separate occasions by waitresses reminding us that we need to leave at 7pm. The food arrived late, so we only had just over an hour to eat our food. We were sent an email before hand telling us this and we did leave on time. However, I would much rather the old Cornish pub we used to have where you were made to feel welcome and not just for the money. I even went to say thank you as we left before 7pm and the waitresses completely ignored us!

Llamamos aquí en nuestro último día para almorzar. Una bienvenida amable para nuestro perro y nosotros mismos. Recomendamos el panini de tocino, Brie y mermelada de chile. Muy sabroso.

Had a really lovely lunch on Saturday. The food was delicious, the staff were lovely and it had a great ambiance. I've marked it down a star purely on the price of a small lemonade, which at £4.20 feels a bit rich - especially when a small wine was £4.95. What happened to supporting designated drivers?!

After visiting my home county of Cornwall in Penzance, I wanted what all Cornish men yearn for a real Cornish pasty so I bought one from a shop that has been trading for 20/30 years and what I tasted was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had (total rubbish) disgrace to all Cornish pasties, so the next day I went into the deli called the Cornish Hen and bought another pasty and wow it was the best I’ve ever had in Cornwall so I say to all you people who visit Penzance and want the best pasty going visit the Cornish Hen in Penzance you won’t be disappointed

This is truly a hidden Gem!! We've came twice for breakfast and have been so impressed!! The atmosphere taking you back to the 1940's is truly an expericence and the breakfast was genuinely the best we have had, anywhere! The two ladies than run it couldn't have been more lovely and inviting (even cooking a sausage for our dog and provided her with treats). We would come back time and time again and would recommend everyone does! If I could have gave it a million stars I would!!
