Masons Arms in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Stopped after driving about three hours headed toward tintagel. Just needed a quick meal a bathroom break and sometime to get reoriented. Waitress bartender immediately took us to a seat in the restaurant which was at best really odd. I'm usually pretty good at describing places I can't describe this one. Basically it was a dive american type part biker spoon with a parrot. Menu was pretty much basic english pub food. Ordered two steak and ale pies and a couple of colas. Foods took a little time but they are cooking it fresh. Surprised. The pie was quite good. Lots of flavor, puff pastry was nice on top. Chips were probably the best ones we had on our current trip. I'm not really sure how to recommend this place. I'm sure in the evenings this place is something out of a hollywood b movie. I guess it's kind of a basic english dive type local pub. Food a bit expensive but it didn't have a lot of options there in town either.

Strange place. Decent options on tap, good to see a real fire going. Real flowers on the tables is a nice touch. But the squad of unfriendly locals that take up the entire bar make it awkward to actually get served. If I was the landlord I'd stop the seating at the bar and then a few more people might actually come in.

I didn't have food, the chef was off. Great place &a great laugh.

Terrible service, over priced food, long waits for food (1hr), over cooked food, forgot one of the meals so we all ate at different times. Then refused to refund money for food that they didn’t provide, as no manager to authorise the refund. I could not believe what I was being told. Avoid this pub at all cost and definitely don’t pay for your food until you have received it, so you can decide to pay what you think it’s worth, it’s is definitely not worth the price set out on the menu.

Great time at the MAC Festival.

Took way too long to get food. Prawn cocktails served in warm bowls and steak over cooked and tasteless. Garlic bread terrible shop bought basic range. Really disappointed. Parrot a highlight. Waitress absolutely lovely

Me and my family attended this establishment after a long journey travelling to come on holiday. As we got into camelford we were looking for a nice place to have some breakfast and saw that this pub was serving breakfast until 12. We ordered 3 breakfasts and 1 vegetarian breakfast, and 3 soft drinks (After being told that hot drinks were not available). This costed £78!!!!!! unbelievable! This also being accompanied by having no menus? strange! The food was mediocre and frankly upsetting. We came to this pub 2 years ago and had a great experience, whereas now we find that there are new owners and obviously everything has changed and clearly not for the best. The most enjoyable part of the meal was the parrot called Rodney that spoke to us during our time there. Overall not fun wouldn't go again. I reccomend nothing from this pub.

Very disappointed service was very poor. Food was also not great. Lasagne was served cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. Chips were luke warm and small portions. Chicken nuggets like rocks. Missing garlic bread & onions rings and had to keep getting up to ask where they were. Really dissapointed and no apology when food was returned. Finally had an off hand apology when plates cleared away. No discount offered. Very expensive meal definitely not value for money. Wouldn't recommend for food or service. Not impressed.

We were looked at, but neither talked to nor served.

We reserved a table at the Masons arms on a Monday night to find out it was pizza night. We were told there was also a limited menu on offer if you didn’t want pizza and they were right it was very limited Food was nice and hot when it came although people were saying they had waited a long time. We have eaten in this pub lots of times over the years we have been going to Cornwall and I feel it’s lost its atmosphere somewhat, which is very sad as it used to be a fantastic pub and very welcoming. Staff where pleasant on the day but just missing the Cornish sparkle

Lovely friendly pub. Great beer, good laughs, brilliant landlord. Rodney is being missed !! Food looks good, will be trying next time . Shame we missed the quiz, sounds like a lot of fun. Will definitely be visiting again!!!

Fri- 7th June - A one night stay in Camelford so we visited The Masons Arms. One young girl serving behind the Bar and chatting to 2 other Young Female customers. We ordered drinks and asked about food. We found a table in the dining area (there was no one else in there). We ordered 2 meals one of which was Duck , and we were warned it may take up to 20 minutes which we accepted... After over 30 minutes , no food and not even a visit from any member of staff .. 45 mins same no food..no explanation offer for delay. (remember there was no one else in that Pub eating) At this point we had not paid any monies for the food so having being totally blanked while the 3 young ladies enjoyed their chit chat we decided enough was enough. I returned our empty glasses to the bar area. Complained about the wait and lack of attention and we left - NEVER to return . This forced us to eat elsewhere , where we struck up a conversation with another couple, Long story shorter - In their words "they had experienced long delays at the Masons Arms and added the food was less than average." They were staying in Camelford for a week but confirmed they would not be returning to The Masons Arms for the duration of that stay . In such a small place I suggest every customer is valid, We hear the sad tales of Pubs closing, But this is not the way to avoid that possibility.. Sorry for poor feedback Masons Arms but you were sadly lacking.

Lovely meal at a reasonable price

Nice to sit in the Bar adjacent to the coal fire with a pint and a wine. Who thought sitting by the fire in a ‘lovely early English Summer (not) could be do pleasant!?🤪 We had a meal each in the adjacent diningroom. “Mediterranean Chicken” with small potatoes and some Med veg, and “Chicken Supreme”. Both were very good, moist well-cooked joints of chicken breast with the respective flavours and accompaniments. The Cauliflower and Cheese Soup as a starter was also very flavoursome and arrived piping hot. People are Happy 😎

Pizza cold in centre and burnt around outside plus another client left after waiting 40 minutes for meal (only people in restaurant)

Visited as we were staying locally overnight.. after our order was placed we were told the Duck could take up to 20 mins which we accepted.. worth pointing out there was no one else eating at all..45 minutes later.. I returned our empty glasses to the bar and told them to forget the food and we left .. NOT ONE member of staff had even entered the dining area let alone offered any update or apology... it puzzles me how some businesses survive.. if you visit Camelford and there is no where else to dine... I'd rather sit on a bench with a pasty than return here.. wake up before you become another closed down Pub..

Food was lovely but did take ages to come and not much choice on the menu.

Called in at the newly refurbished Mason's Arms in Camelford on Friday evening. Ordered pizza with my cider- absolutely delicious and great price too! Definitely worth a visit. Sadly couldn't stay for the live music but will definitely eat there again.

Great food, with lovely service! We had the burger (my partner loved it) and I had the prawns and aubergine balls, which were delicious. Cosy pub dinner was exactly what we were after. There's also a pool table!

We ate at the Mason's at the same time as the previous negative reviewer. We had an outstanding fish platter from the specials, really fresh and tasty. The new landlords are doing a great job and the staff are really friendly. We overheard the complaining guests and I can honestly say I've never heard such rude behaviour from other customers. We were shocked by the way they treated the staff and we felt they were just after a free meal. They were really quite offensive and picking issue with anything they could find. The poor young waitress was clearly upset by the woman's rudeness particularly and did a sterling job of handling them. Even if they had any reason to complain (cold plate, terminology of cups/glasses was their main gripe), they ate all their food so it can't have been that bad. We had a lovely meal in this cosy pub with friendly, helpful staff.

If you want a warm welcoming..Good food (hot)..Good service with a smile don't go to the Mason arms ..food was cold and the service absolutely terrible young girls with such an attitude and rude asked for deduction was told we are using out electricity..part refund was given but totally unprofessional in all areas ..need training badly ..dark hair girl that took our order was great but the rest puts the pub down and make customers not welcome by the rudeness even asked for two teas got 2 coffee cups different sizes not saucers bit petty yes but not on for a paying customer such a shame we will never go back

What a great traditional pub, food was excellent, staff friendly locals good humoured.. Looking forward to going back.. You need to go it's not a new plastic pub but been around since 1783.

We visited the Masons Arms with family for a simple evening meal on Thursday 17th Aug 2023. Despite the recent issue with the kitchen fire they were able to accommodate the booking of 9 and provided a great service. The pizzas are really nice and the other food options are also good and tasty. Some recent negative reviews simply can’t be accepting of them still trying to provide a food service while dealing with the kitchen issue they have at present. The person serving forgot to add a round of drinks to our bill at the end of the meal so I went up and paid for them before leaving and the nice woman behind the bar seemed shocked at the honesty. It’s all down to the service you gave and the efforts you are all making to be able to continue to make customers happy and serve food. Thank You to all at the Masons Arms for the great meal and for enjoyable evening.

Welcoming, characterful pub with good beer and friendly locals. Also, a nice little beer garden. When in Camelford, The Masons Arms is definitely worth a visit.

The front section of this pub is in need of a complete renovation. The eating area contained 2 freezers/fridges parked next to a table. The ceiling has rows of dirty bottles hanging on hooks. The heating stove looked like it had never been cleaned. The tables and chairs are rudimentary and uncomfortable. The bar top was very sticky and thickly covered with drinks spillage. Food was served in a cardboard box with throw away wood knives and forks. This is a real appetite killer. Apparently a kitchen fire 4 weeks prior had forced this method of serving food for reasons of hygiene ? Difficult to believe that a business having such a " wrecked" kitchen would still be serving any food. How long does it take to get a dishwasher running on a temporary basis? Avoid.

Nice place for a drink, slight issue with food as ordered beef skewers from garden grill.Very well presented but some parts of beef were abit raw (under cooked) so would be worried if ordered chicken skewers. Ordered a meat feast pizza, that was nice. Only other issue was a few young kids (6years of age) running around a very tight space in beer garden. With staff walking around with food and drinks, this is an accident waiting to happen.

Unwelcoming dingy pub.This place is definitely one of a kind as its the only place I have ever had a bad pint of Amstel. Think it must be haunted as my pint was headless. Camelford is such a lovely small town and I won't let this rancid boozer sour my memories of a lovely friendly place.

Lovely pub in a lovely village. Food is all fresh! May be a slight wait but worth the wait and you can't rush good quality! Parking close by too. Family run and everyone really friendly. We went on burger and pizza night and it was great, couldn't fault it , thank you

Lovely pub. It was pizza and burger night and the burgers were amazing! Mine was a lamb and mint mayo with chips to die for and coleslaw. Side order of crisp onion rings. My daughter had a sticky toffee pud and ice cream with butterscotch sauce and it was gorgeous apparently. Hospitality great and very dog-friendly. Lovely big tables with loads of room for all the family. Would recommend to anyone.

What a gem.From the service to food .This ticked every box couldnt not find any fault at all .We visited saturday evening while on holiday and for my partners birthday we wanted a traditional cornish pub and we got it .So friendly and welcoming, the food, the taste was excellent and yes you can definitely tell its fresh .Also i would like to note the disability access is brilliant too .I personally felt very relaxed and comfortable in the surroundings. My speech isnt good and the staff was very accommodating. Also walking around there is space and access to the toilets is in each reach .The staff cant do enough for you.On behalf of myself and partner thank you very much and hope to visit again .

It took over 1 hour for our main corse ordered at 7.30 got our food 9pm food was nice but only one chef on ? If they had told us we would have moved on to another food outlet

Rough dive with a beer garden that just charged me £10 for a large white wine. I had an hour to fill before my bus, I fancied staying for another if the price was wrong but when I questioned it the Landlady justified it with "well it's what I have to pay so that's how much it is". I went next door and bought a bottle from Spar for £5.99. If she's getting charged that much maybe she should be buying it in from Spar next door too. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I'm not an offensive or bad person but if a pub thinks they can just exploit you like that and justify it with stupid reasoning, do you really want to feed into it?

Good roast, two of us really enjoyed the roast beef although the one of us that had pork was a little disappointed. Pretty generous with the meat but quite a small portion overall, but the price isnt too high either. Was able to have mine gluten free, minus Yorkshire pudding.

Food was excellent and atmosphere friendly. It has a pool table and darts. Toilets were clean. Overall, welcoming.

Great local pub, cask ale always on form and good atmosphere. I've had Tribute and Proper Job here and both have gone down well!

Absolutely amazing! Had the 10oz gammon for tea, went down a treat! And all tasted fresh from the garden, great atmosphere and amazing staff!

Spent a week in Cameford and ate at the Mason Arms every night. Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and we were lucky enough to participate in thier Monday night Candlelit dinner. Such wonderful memories to take home.

We googled this pub by ratings for a bite to eat whilst on holiday and thought we were playing it safe by doing so. We were greeted by the staff and shown to a table. We chose the chicken curry from the specials board and upon the first mouthful realised there was nothing special about it. The curry was watery and tasteless as was the over cooked wet rice and the chicken was equally as bland almost as if it had been boiled. We could not believe that something so easy to make could taste so bland. Very disappointed.

Absolutely disappointed with this place , I went to away with my partner for couple night and we went to this place , as soon as we walked it it smelt of sweat and was not nice smell at all , we then told the lady we was here for the food, she then took us in the back room where we seated, ( they had loads of glass dirty dusty bottles on the ceiling which is random and tatty , the tables felt all sticky and then we ordered food . I had the bangers and mash (thinking it’s proper homemade pub grub) I was very very disappointed , I could tell instantly this was a microwave meal , the sausages was still pink and looked liked they wasn’t cooked , and the mash was so dry wouldnt recommend this pub at all , we got fish and chips on way home , AVOID !!!

Visited this place a number of times over the years always been remarkable food but unfortunately our last visit was a catastrophe mash was lumpy and cold definitely not home made overpriced for what it is won’t be visiting again sorry

We stop at the Mason Arms on our way back to Bude from Bodmin. Great friendly pub, great food, good value for money and very dog friendly. Service was amazing, great young waiter, nothing was too much trouble, from taking orders, to clearing away and checking we were enjoying our meal. Great Irish coffee, made to perfection. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Very poor. We were the only people eating, but when we arrived the adjacent table was piled with dirty dishes. Food was poor quality and overpriced.

Nice place for a quick drink. Looks like they are redecorated inside. Beer garden could do with a tidy up.

i went there on the 21st 7th 22 service was outstanding, ordered two pork belly's scampi chips burger and for afters chocolate brownie and ice cream sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, apple crumble with custard all home made outstanding food hot drink was to die for it was just a lovely pub highly recommended more then 5 stars

Me and family visited masons arms and the food was not good. The pepperoni and margherita pizza didn’t taste very nice. We had a couple of pudding but the custard very watery and the member of staff said it was out of a carton. Also the apple crumble didn’t have much apple in and the crumble was not the best

My friends and were welcomed with upmost hospitality when we had been stuck in nearby Davidstow after losing our car keys. We walked to Camelford to go shopping and found the Masons Arms. The service was excellent and the roast dinners were delicious. Thank you to the friendly owners and the locals which made our visit so pleasant. 5 stars

The new place next to it (koolios) it’s so over priced it’s £10 for 2 waffles and I got told to take my dog Paws off the table (his paws were on the edge of the table the place is so crammed and it up gets warm really quick you can see how they make the food and the other day one of the staff dropped a waffle and still served it they also, take forever to Collect your plates and expect you to know what you want to order as soon as you walk in the door (ps I couldn’t find the koolios website/review place and koolios is related to the masons)

We were fooled by the top reviews on here which is why we went to this pub for lunch but trust me this is no hidden gem of Cornwall. My wife and I ordered Pork belly and Lamb cutlets with mash and 'seasonal vegetables' which consisted of canned sweet corn,  boiled parsnips and hard sliced carrots. The lamb cutlets were raw and just about browned. The Pork was tough and chewy. The decor is unwelcoming, tired and dated. On a positive note the service was good and that was how they scored 1 star.

I've visited the Masons Arms once before in 2021 and once again today after a long day of traveling from Suffolk. The service was excellent and the seat and serve times where spectacular as per the standard I have come to expect from the Masons Arms. Some lovely variety in both food and drink ranging from some "Propa Pub Grub" all the way to high end gastro food. After seeing the many places in the hospitality trade forget about the important aspects of a pub it was nice to see that it is not forgotten here. As the manager of a pub I have to say that this is one of the better establishments that I have visited - The only thing that I can suggest is a reprint of the menus with a bit more of an extensive description of the food served. Other than that - Absolutely stellar night !!
