Can be a "busy" pub on weekends

Spring Gardens Pub is a very popular venue with outdoor seating available as I have observed over the years I have been passing. It's been awhile since I have been in due to personal circumstances but it's popularity seems to be the same as always.

Lovely food used to come here years ago then I moved away and went back when visiting and has never changed still quality food

Well, We will not go again. We looked forward to the opportunity to visit here as we used to live nearby and liked it a while ago. The front space was already occupied by many people and there were no seats, so when I asked if I could sit in the space of the many vacant tables in the back, We were refused without any reasons, there was no apology either. We went home. We will not go again.

A great pub sells good beer at a great price. And the service is spot on.

Nice pub, in a good place, easy to find. They have lots of options for drinks and nice collection for spirits. Price for lager was nice, but it raised a bit, later in the evening. The con, is that they dien offer any snacks, exept crisps and pork crakings.

Over the weekend i had the pleasure of meeting the manager of ‘Spring Gardens’ while visiting the area. I had never been to this pub before and i sure as hell won’t be going back. So i found myself in a predicament today (you pregnant ladies will understand) where i was miles from home running errands when i found myself needing to use the toilet, with that said a local person advised that i went to Spring Gardens. Myself and a friend were stopped on our way to the bathroom by the manager and a young female colleague behind the bar to be told we couldn’t use the bathroom without buying something from the bar. This so called manager’s attitude was disgusting from the get go, i refused to buy something and left the pub. The manager tried to tell me that should i have told him i was pregnant (which i’m 24 weeks) then he would have let me use the bathroom, of course i disregarded this excuse due to the disgusting attitude he expressed as soon as we walked in and in front of a number of customers!. This man continued to argue that many people only go in to use the toilet and that ‘it’s a pub not a public toilet’. Like i care if people would rather urinate in his bathroom than drink his beer! I had literally just said to my friend on our way into the pub that i felt bad to use the toilet while not purchasing anything when i never really should have felt bad at all. The manager was horrible and should never work with the public with such a disgusting attitude. To the manager... Thank you for the excruciating pain which was radiating from my bladder being suffocated by my expanding uterus. Have a good day, much love from an NHS nurse fighting a pandemic while trying not to pee myself!

Went here to watch football on Sky Sports whilst in Shields - friendly, good selection, decent prices. Lots of screens so would be OK even when busy (which it wasn't when we were there).

Friendly & helpful staff. We had fish & chips, & scampi & chips, asked if we could have garden peas instead of mushy peas but the chef said he didn't have any, & yet when our meals were served, he had put himself out to find some for us. Great atmosphere & would go again

Local. Cheap beer well kept friendly

Fablous meal had the beef that just melted in ya mouth and lamb that was to die for. Had plenty of veg. And mash roast potatoes with yorkshire. Great service very clean and friendly. Great value for money would definitely come again. Would recommend to anyone.

Called into the spring gardens pub with friends yesterday. It's such a friendly nice pub. I haven't been in there for a long time. It's all been recently refurbished and it looks great. Bthe staff were so nice too and very friendly.

Visited this pub many times especially on Sunday afternoons. The Sunday dinners are amazing and all the staff very friendly. We stayed on after the food and found out they have live music every Sunday at 6.30pm. Great evening had by all, I would recommend it to families during the day especially Sunday lunches and its a great bar to start and finish your night off if you live locally

Not much waiting time at all even though we had not booked, although supposed to be only Sunday lunches, the chef agreed to do fish & chips for the 2 teenage girls in our party.The lunches were 3 courses and with a couple of rounds of drinks for 4 the bill was only just over £50. The service was quick and the staff were really helpful.

Decent pub. I went later in the evening on a weekday so it was fairly quiet. Got served well and was a nice calm atmosphere. I'm not a pub person but I'd consider coming again.

Sunday Mother's day lunch, the food was brilliant, no skimping, lots of fresh vegetables, and the meat was plentiful, and well cooked. Staff are very attentive, cheerful, and the service was excellent.

Aye it was okay like Im not a drinker but i went in just to check the place out, everybody stopped talking in the place and looked right at me, was very disconcerting and had me very anxious. So from there i went to the toilet, male obviously, which wasnt minging but they just seemed like a standard pub toilets, i was rather pleased they werent disgusting, the pub overall was well presented, prices seemed relatively okay, seemed like a very local pub as nobody recognised me and clearly noted that and stared at me. If yoi do drink and you enjoy a relatively quiet local i would recommend

This impressive old pub is warm and welcoming and offers excellent value for money for very good food and drinks. Dog friendly and imposing. It is pleasing to find such an impressive establishment alive and well.

Me and the girlfriend called in to the pub on Friday for a couple of pints but decided to stay for or tea and i must say we were not disappointed. We both had the hotdog meal and the presentation of the food and the taste of meal was top notch. My girlfriend then ordered herself the sticky toffee pudding dessert and my girlfriend is a dessert specialist so when she says it was the best sticky toffee pudding she has ever had. That is some praise and some statement. The owners of this pub are so friendly and nothing is to much for them to do. I would recommend anyone visiting the area to call in there and have a pint and something to eat.

Meh. Pub is just your typical street pub. The environment is quite cosy. It's always empty however, honestly I don't know how they turn a profit, it's quite lonely feeling when having a drink here, wish the environment was a bit more lively. Prices are standard for the area

Well for a pub to advertise food served all day. My visitor from Sunderland and another from Dover wanting a snack. This the Spring Gardens couldn't supply such a shame. Its years since ive been in the pub last time entertaining afraid won't be hurrying back

Went today with the family, absolutely delicious. I had Hunters chicken & chips (chips are amazing) thoroughly enjoyed it as did the rest of the family.

One of those places which is sort of on the doorstep, we'd heard great reports about the Sunday lunches but had never been, other than for drinks, so it was time to give it a try..... Clean, airy place which on first glance, seemed as if it's not really a natural eating establishment, but any doubts are soon banished, by the friendly, helpful bar staff. We didn't have a starter and went for the main's which were absolutely fantastic, very tasty, cooked to perfection and certainly plenty of it! The best we'd had for a long time. There were also a good choice of desserts and they were equally as good and for an extra 2 quid were an absolute bargain! All in all, 2 Main's, 2 desserts, 2 pints and 2 soft drinks for just over £26 - you'll not get better than that and the quality put many of the way more expensive and more showy 'restaurants' within a couple of miles radius to shame. We'll be back, without a shadow of a doubt - very impressed! Small parking area at the front, but there is plenty of street parking nearby if it's full. Best book though.....

You get a warm welcome at the spring gardens with lovely food and beer on offer. We tried the hunters chicken and it was delicious along with a fantastic pint of Moretti. The staff are friendly and the pub itself is immaculate. If you like live bands there are acts on every Friday night so this place is well worth a visit

I visited this pub with my girlfriend last week as we were driving through North Shields and it caught our eye looking nice and fresh and bright from the outside. There is a few on site car park spaces so we could pull straight up next to the pub. on entering the pub we were greeted with a very warm, cosy feeling pub with quite a few different age groups enjoying a pint and a chat. we were greeted at the bar immediately and very quickly we had our drinks in our hands and at a very good price. we took a seat at one of there tables and browsed the food menu which was a very good menu, using fresh ingredients. you order at the bar and Me and my girlfriend both went for the chicken burger meal with my girlfriend not wanting certain ingredients on hers but other stuff on instead which was no trouble at all for them. within a few minutes our napkins and cutlery arrived at our table and we were asked if we required any condiments that they could get us. within 15 minutes our food arrived very hot and very fresh, beautifully presented on a board, with a bowl for the amazing home made chips and the homemade coleslaw. the meal was very quickly eaten and it was a very good meal indeed. with not one complaint, just an all round brilliant food experience. after our meal we played pool that is situated just off from the bar. they have a dart board and a juke box to so the atmosphere was always very enjoyable, they have two separate toilet areas at each end of the pub which were very clean and smelt fresh which if you go to pubs you know never seems to be the case. After our games of pool we thanked the pub and there management team and staff as they made this a very good experience with there friendly, warm, fun pub they run and we will be going back next week again, it just shows you if you put that extra bit of effort in and treat your customers nicely, you end up with a brilliant business, so thank you to the Spring Garden pub for a lovely evening

Visited this pub with my daughter and 10 friends. Lovely and friendly staff. Food was really nice, all home cooked which makes a massive difference. All food ordered was piping hot and no complaints whatsoever. I would definitely recommend this pub for families as well as meeting place for friends.

Been here now on several occasions and the sunday lunches are amazing. Quality and quantity with the added bonus of first class service too. Can not go wrong if you are looking for somewhere local and satisfaction guaranteed. I also recommend visiting through the week...

We stopped off here for some lunch after a walk in a local park.Its was described online as a dog friendly pub with home cooked food.Dog friendly it is to the point they let them in. No welcome no fuss nothing.And even though it is plastered all over the pubs walls outside that they serve food all day....they DON'T serve food.There is no parking so we had a nightmare finding somewhere nearby safe to park. We unloaded 3 tired dogs out of the car, crossed a busy road, settled the dogs down took our coats off and made ourselves comfy, went to the bar for a menu and were somewhat annoyed when we were told after all that we could not get anything to eat as they did not serve food anymore.

I had been to the Spring Gardens in the past, prior to renovation and new management. It was typical and unremarkable. We arranged for the function room upstairs and ordered a buffet. The staff were welcoming and brilliant. The room was very clean and the bartender was attentive. Our experience was so positive that I'm happy to return on a casual basis, and I don't spend a lot of time in local pubs. Gary and his team were outstanding.
