Started going to the black horse , would drop in for a pint or two, they started a promotion buy four pint of beer and get the fifth one free, I bought my four pints, and when I went back to claim my free pint was told by, a member of staff that I’d never seen before that they weren’t excepting the free tokens any more, REALLY, they are still advertising this promotion today, on a board outside, pretty shabby think and I wouldnt ever darken they doors again , yes I know it’s just a pint but it’s the principle of the matter .

Despite the substantial investment from craft union / stone gate : the bar staff need to PUT THEIR PHONES AWAY - and serve the customers stood waiting at the bar. 20th March Evening. Manager weak as water and young lad behind the bar needs to look like he’s at work not plugged into his phone. Sat on his backside on the back bar!!! You’re here to serve for the benefit of your customers not to do what’s best and easiest for you. Won’t be back to yet another generic managed house with poor disengaged poorly trained management and staff. I wonder if the people above you realise what waste of money they’re investment has been.

Visited this bar yesterday first time for quite a while. The barman was very welcoming and friendly. The pub was spotless clean and the drinks are very well priced. We will definitely be returning.

Very nice ambience. The two Girls serving where very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Definitely an asset to the owners. We ordered their Sunday Lunches and can say that it was first class, top notch in presentation, quality and superb value for money.I can highly recommend it for a visit, we will certainly be back. I would have given 5/5 if they had some Real Ales on but I believe they had sold out. Not to worry, hopefully better luck, next time.

My twin brother Stephen and I were in Newcastle for a week's holiday, one of the days we decided to jump the tram line to Whitley Bay and visit some of the great little places along the tram route,this is what brough us to Monkseaton, one of the first pubs we visited was The Black Horse Pub. This is a superb pub ,multi roomed, an island style serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings, tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their beer garden, a very good pub indeed. We were here on a Wednesday late afternoon, a friendly young bar person greeted us warmly, we ordered Strongbow dark fruit cider at the bar ,these were served iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My cider was really good, a crisp, effervescent cider that on a really hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying an iced cold cider sat with my twinny. We really enjoyed our ciders in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to The Black Horse Pub we were totally impressed. The Black Horse Pub is easy to locate along Front Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm. Friday &Saturday, Midday till Midnight. Sunday, Midday till 11pm. A great pub ,one I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area ,its only a few minutes walk from Monkseaton Metro Station.

The Black Horse in Monkseaton is a really good pub that offers a fantastic range of food and drinks and is located in an area where there are some excellent pubs and craft beer bars. Located on Front street and a five minute walk from the Monkseaton metro stop this superb pub has a traditional multi-roomed interior with excellent seating options and a fantastic outside seating area. We had been in Whitley Bay allday and on our way back to Newcastle we decided to jump off at Monkseaton metro stop to visit a few of the pubs around here. We had been to the Front Street Tap Room an excellent micro-pub and from there we made our way over to the Black Horse. You know when you walk into a decent pub and we new right away that we would like it here as there was a great atmosphere and the pub itself was a joy to visit as it was well maintained and spotlessly clean. When we where here we had a few glasses of Strongebow brewery fruit ciders a really refreshing cider which was well served and well priced. The Black Horse is a great pub to visit and is very easy to find from Monkseaton metro stop walk along Norham road and turn left onto Front street.(This is my first review of the Black Horse). Cheap as chips for a monkseaton bar but lacks atmosphere in the lounge. More TVs and a juke box required

We visited this pub on Sunday evening unfortunately we came just before closing but enjoyed our half hour in here , my husband was looking forward to his pint of Rahtas & enjoyed it so much , will make sure we get in earlier next time

I had lunch here with my parter and baby. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly. They have ikea highchairs (with the tray), perfect for my 7 month old to have her lunch too

After ordering Sunday lunch I was told I couldn’t pay by card so had to go over the road to the cash point for money. The machine was broken but luckily I could get cash back in the shop. When waiting for our lunch we noticed how many people were leaving food. Ours arrived and looked very tasty but the mash and Yorkshire pud were cold. The veg was cooked lovely but covered in gravy as thick as wallpaper paste which spoiled the whole meal. Don’t think I’ll be rushing back for Sunday lunch.

Been to the Black Horse many times under previous owners but this was a first visit under the new owners. On arrival at 2.00pm was just two tables left which is always a good sign and plumped for the large table near the bay window. What struck me was the number of staff on duty and the warm welcome we recieved. The waitress informed us that it was cash only today which was not a problem for me but for any others there is a cash point across the raod at Spa. Our four drinks were very reasonably priced including my Moretti which was a good start. There were three or four starters of which we plumped for the Potatoes skins. Foer mains there were four choices on the menu beef, chicken, pork and lamb shank which my daughter had. The Yorkshiers were huge and done to perfection accompanied by roast potatoes, mash, cauliflower, turnip swede and sprouts and plenty of it. The starters were very reasonably priced and the mains just over £8.00. For those brave enough to finish there meal there is a sweets cabinet with lots of choice which looked delightful. Sadly all four of us were to full. All in all a very friendly and enjoyable experience so please give it a try.

On Saturday 2/3/19 my wife and i went to the Blackhorse pub in monkseaton to watch Westham vs Newcastle the game was rubbish.but on the other hand the food was amazing I had a beef baget and the wife had prawn cocktail . Best food ever you have got to try it.

Had excellent lunch - yorkshire pudding wrap with slow roast brisket and gravy with chunky chips - gorgeous home cooked food and good price too. Cakes looked great too but was too full so will definitely go back for coffee and cake.

Was in the black horse 15.1.19. Had cooked food. I had their chips and Yorkshire pudding wrap. Tender beef chunky chips with gravy. My other have had the Cumberland sausage in Yorkshire pudding mash potatoe gravy and peas. For dessert I had choc cake with cream. Will be eating there again. Great service lovely staff lovely atmosphere 😊. Highly recommend it.

Has recently changed hands so no food was available. I believe it will start in March.

The lounge is too good orientated while the bar layout is wrong and can be very intimidating to new guests, if you come on with others it's lovely but would not recommend solo entry.

Just reopened again and now our local.

There is only a very limited choice of drinks so far the bar is cash only at the moment . No meals are being served. The manager has said that he hopes to be supplying meals in the new year

Beware of old reviews, changed management in December 2018. No longer a good place to eat, entertainment stopped and manager is not a patch on the old one.

We had a great meal including new and exciting foods I had never tried before. The food is really nice and reasonably priced.

I was only here because the local provider of a music room was having their pub refurbished and we needed another venue to sing in. However I was very impressed with The Black Horse in many ways. The Manager? even borrowed a guitar and gave us a couple of songs and I have to say he was a very accomplished player as well as being very approachable guy. Good surroundings Good Staff and I'm sure the food will be just as good! Thanks very much I’ll be back! I have been conservative with the marks as I didn't have food but I feel confident that higher marks would have been in order had I had a meal.

Great food (including imaginative vegan options) and friendly service

This was my first visit to this popular local since it was reopened under new management. The decor was smart and appealing and m friend and I were served by the owner, who was friendly and chatty. There were a fair selection of beers and lagers on draught, with many more in bottles in the fridges. We had heard the food was good so decided to take the plunge. I opted for the Ribena sandwich - pulled beef with melted cheese in a bun, with chips and coleslaw decorated with pomegranate seeds. The beef was soft and tasty, the whole thing being very moreish. My friend went straight for the fruit crumble waffle and declared it delicious, so much so I wasn't even offered a taste! It was buskers night, and although the standard was good, it was maybe a little loud if you had gone there to chat. Reasonably priced, welcoming service. As my friend remarked ' I think we have found our new local!'

Lovely place for food (which is delicious) and a few drinks with friends or family and always a great atmosphere.

I attended a boxing charity night and have to say what a great night. Chat in with a former world cruiserweight belt holder Glen Mcory. He spoke on his next adventure of climbing mount Kilimanjaro for charity with a wheel chair user. It was very open honest and he was friendly to all, a credit to him and the north east. Credit must also go the management who made all feel welcome and relaxed. This pub just goes from strength to strength and long may it continue. I'm looking forward to the next activity they have as it sure does beat the boring stuff and other establishments in the area. Long may it continue.... Well done to all..👍 wish i could give more stars...

Lovely outdoor area, friendly staff

After a previous very enjoyable visit, the while family had Sunday lunch at the Black Horse this week. We tried the chicken goujons (enormous!) and flatbread to start and then graduated on to 4 roast beef and 2 beef and mushroom pies. All excellent and great value for money.Only one person had room for a desert so the sticky toffee pudding was a natural choice. Vert sweet but delicious. We'll be back!

Went to the black horse pub with my partner and friends for a meal and to listen to music. This is the best place in North Tyneside to eat drink and be merry. The food was unbelievable the staff are just the best and I have found just the best place in the world... thanks to the owners and staff for a great night.

We LOVE coming here. The food is absolutely fantastic. We are both vegan and the staff are always very accommodating. Everyone is so friendly and everything is so reasonably priced. There are also lots of great regular events on, including our favourite pub quiz. Cannot recommend this place enough!

New ownership has proved good! Food excellent and easy on the pocket, I had crisped belly pork Sunday lunch amazing tastes. The burger sampled a few weeks ago also mouth watering. Last but not least Good friendly helpful staff.

The Black horse is now my favourite pub in the area. Since it has re opened it easily has the best priced and quality food around with a great selection. There is a good choice of drinks and if you like your Gins you’re on to a winner. Another aspect that puts the BH above the other pubs is their events. This has included comedy, music, football, bbq / DJs to name a few. Keep up the good work will be back soon!

I had the Belly Pork - tremendous, my wife had the Chicken Supreme and she loved it, Sister in Law had the Veg Pie and she thought it was brilliant.Excellent food at a very reasonable price and very rare that kids eat for free (I don’t really like to pay £7/8 for kids meals, particularly when my child rarely actually eats much!)Service with a smile throughout and even gave us a refund for one of the deserts as the person didn’t have their first choice as they had run out and wasn’t too keen on the replacement (which I ate and loved).Highly recommended.

The Black horse has been taken over by new management since I was last in and it seems to be for the better. We called in for some lunch with friends although the menu was small what we had was of good quality and cooked well and at a reasonable price. They have a small range of cask ales on offer. the staff are friendly and helpful

We dropped into the Black Horse on a whim, having been told by a friend how she enjoyed a recent visit. The menu had a good range of traditional lunch dishes and other lighter meals, plus vegan and vegetarian options. The owner explained the hot weather had prompted the chef to consider the food on offer. There were several diners outside, enjoying the sunshine but we elected to eat indoors.The food was well presented, very tasty and reasonably priced (around £9 for a main course). The pub offers a free meal for young diners provided an adult main course purchased which is a really good deal for families. The service was speedy and pleasant; the staff are happy to chat about the food on offer and what's planned for the future. We shall certainly try this again.

Went to see Lorraine Crosby last night at Black Horse and had a meal too.Lorraine was fantastic the pub lounge was jumping and the price of the ticket was worth every penny. Great crowd. Bar staff were very good. The steak was to die for cooked to perfection and my husband reported the lamb flat bread was delicious. the guys who have taken pub on are getting it right. We need good food good service and great entertainment. Well Done.

First visit for many years although at a funeral gathering the buffet i can say was the best one I have seen and tasted for a long time highly recommended !

Just wanted to thank the manager for his swift and generous help regarding an unfortunate accident with a food spillage! Cant thank the staff enough for rectifying the problem and going above and beyond to help. Also, the mac cheese is AMAZING

Went for lunch 3 times last week with my friend from France, definitely going back !!! Had various dishes, different each time, the flatbreads were brilliant & full of flavour

We reserved a table for 12:30 for Sunday lunch & was informed that the beef would be a 20 minute wait which we were happy with. However it was apparent after 45 minutes that no one in the restaurant had any food. The waitress brought out some snacks while we waited but we weren't told anything about the delay. The wait in total was 1.5 hours. The roast was delicious but it was tarnished by the delays & lack of communication. Also there wasn't any check to see that everything was ok. We will however give it another chance as we only live across the road & the food was cooked very nicely but we hope to see a improvement to the service.

What a superb job the new owners have done here. I have tried a fair few meals on the menu now and they are all superb. The food is delicious and the care and attention the owners and bar staff show customers is top notch. Hands down this is my favourite pub to visit in the local area now and this is all down to the hard work that's been put into making this place a success over the last few months. Please come here and try the food and honestly you won't go anywhere else afterwards!!

Visit on Friday at 5pm.Visit prompted by article in local paper that reported that chef had won an award.We had concluded following initial visit that this would suit evenings where having a drink would be the main focus and any food would snacks (is that what is meant by street food). Our previous visit left us with good vibes so we were geared up for good time on this vey pleasant early evening and start for the weekend.Much to to our surprise it was almost empty although some tables were reserved. As I was about give the young, smart, cheerful and confident bar maid (Elizabeth) my order she shouted over her shoulder 'f..k off' to gentleman customer in the adjoining bar. This was very different response to the very profession staff on duty on our last visit. I was further disappointed to learn that it was no longer possible to open a 'Tab' and payment would be Pay as you Go.The drinks were excellent and a credit to the cellar manager. The 70s/80s background music was a perfect match for our taste.For food we ordered a sharing Nachos Veggie Bean Chilli with vegan cheese melt, and a side order of Patat Oolog which was exactly as described on menu and very tasty. We did complain about the Nachos where there was a serious shortage of chilli (I would have been seriously disappointed if this amount had been served as a single portion) and the very few shaving of vegan chees had never been anywhere near a hot grill! Elizabeth thought the problem could have been due to an inexperienced chef.We spent 3.5 hours leaving at 8.30pm and it was quiet all that time with two of the 6 seater tables reserved and unused all that time a big contrast too our previous visit.The Blackhorse is potentially a good venue and I hope the management refocus the attention ... our experience was just not acceptable.

Ordered 3 mains. All absolutely delicious especially the jackfruit on flabread. Had a couple of puddings one of which was the tiramisu, this did say semifreddo but the fruits were also somewhat on the frozen side. However, I cannot fault the response of the staff who exchanged my dessert with exceptional customer service - probably given that yes, semifreddo meant half frozen! But maybe not the fruit on the side.Anyhow, excellent customer service and beautiful food .... locals please give this a try we will definitely be returning.

Just finished the lamb shawarma which was tremendous! Kids eat free as well. What more could you ask for. I will be back.

Delicious lamb shank Sunday lunch with homemade Yorkshire pudding and a selection of fresh vegetables. The food here never disappoints.

We had a Lamb Shawarma flat bread and Patat Oolong Dirty Fries to share (mayo and peanut sauce) it was absolutely delicious. We have eaten here often since it reopened and have never been disappointed. It's a great bar lovely atmosphere and the staff are all really nice and helpful.

Good old fashion pub. Excellent light bites at lunch time. The smoked mackeral fish cakes were a delight.

The staff were fantastic so well mannered ,BUT mediteranian food not everyones taste .I have o say my char grill steak n cheese burger was to die for delicious i like the way they are going but i think there should be a mix for all tastes

Having read reviews about this place I was excited to try it, but all my expectations were met and then some! I had the grilled veggie flatbread and it was outstanding - the flatbread was perfectly crisp and the toppings were so flavourful. Lamb shawarma also went down a storm and the War Chips we got to share were incredible. So many fantastic vegan options (including a vegan sticky toffee pudding option!) and the quality was top notch. Definite hidden gem!

We had a selection of delicious tapas for lunch. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are more than fair. We will definitely return.

At 2045 hrs on a Tuesday evening the lounge was full of children - perhaps a children's party??? Why was this not held in the function room upstairs? The whole lounge was taken over by this so locals and regulars were not able to use the lounge. Most of the trade was take to another local pub. After over 20 years of loyalty, through various New Management & takeovers plus refurbishments this is not what we expect at that time in the evening & perhaps to the detriment of ongoing local business at The Black Horse.

Fantastic night at the Black Horse - Great food, great Comedy - great night out! Brill 😁 so great to have something like this local to the area.
