Bit OK Coralish in the bar but no bother. Lounge is more relaxed. Both areas are friendly enough though.

Went for a drink Sat night,ordered 2 vodka/lemonade,the barman plonked it on the bar so I asked for some lemon in our drinks as it was served without any.The barman then got some lemon with his fingers and literally threw it in our glasses.Not hygienic or pleasant service,won’t hurry back.

Totally characterful pub with an identity of its own. It felt like a real pub, with real people socialising in group and pairs. The interior was an eclectic mix of random items, but it still felt like a genuine, beer focussed pub My friend and I only had coffees (how boring), but the beer and whiskey selections looked extensive!

Should have had some food but drink and meeting people was the order of the day what a great place to meet up music not too loud lots of people vdry friendly and all of our comapny said this would be the place to spend an evening when in tynemouth think it may be alot busier at weekends and with it on the small side compared to others will of course fill up quickly so best by in there early get your seat and watch the world go by staff very very friendly and more than the usual happy for a busy pub so we will of course be popping in as much as we can just to be social of course

Go through Tynemouth quite a bit but always seem to miss this little gem out, had a lush time and the beer was excellent. Good vibes, decor and staff, beer good too. Will be back

Great bar, best in Tynemouth...it suited us anyway. A good mix of people of all ages and a cosy, quirky atmosphere. Very friendly staff, good selection of beers and interesting cocktails, our sort of music (70s - 90s the nights we were in). Good Guinness when we visited on St Patrick's Day. We tried a few other pubs in the town but none other than the Head of Steam were up to much.

We visited Tynemouth for a week and the Barca became our local for the duration of our stay. We loved everything about it, the atmosphere, the deco, the staff, the locals and the range of beers, ciders and cocktails. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The locals were too. Us and our 2 dogs were made to feel more than welcome with plenty of dog treats given to our girls from staff and locals. Our only regret was that we couldn't become permanent locals! We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

As pointed out by others, recently - whilst are still some nice people and bar staff in here, is all too often a bizarre mixture of, "We're way too cool", whilst happily tolerating the biggest load of reactionary krap possible - from the perpetual ageing bar fixtures and slobberers! A once nice bar down the pan. More dropped pineapple rings than the nice chippy opposite. Really is 2 for 1 on the gammon. (Oh and food here now laughable too.)

Went in for a quiet drink....not for the first time subjected to a load of sexist comments from a bunch of older men propping up the bar. This time defending accusations of rape and sexual assault. Absolutely disgusting. Why the management allows them to continually dominate the bar , I have no idea. This used to be a great bar too.

Very nice bar and gets very popular so can get a bit cramped at times! Staff are friendly and it's a general nice atmosphere in here.

Overpriced for the service. Mainly as the staff are so conceited. They would rather look cool than earn their corn. They forget that without punters they wouldn’t be in their minimum wage jobs, which is more than they deserve. If I owned the place I’d sack the lot!

If the ignorant bar staff were more interested in doing their jobs, this review wouldn’t have been necessary. You had some plum washing glasses whilst watching his team suffer. Then instead of clearing the 3 people waiting, the lass just wanted to chat with ex-staff and gossip about staff members. Utter sh*t show. Walked out. Used to be a great bar. It has been left to wreck and ruin and is currently engorged with kids who have no pride in themselves or their job.

Terrible service went on what I thought was a quiet Wednesday night, which it was btw. Waited for ages to be served with a mate, (probably near to 7 minutes), when we were seen to, we were told "two seconds I'll just serve this guy first", this guy had just walked to the bar! Music was enjoyable, service was atrocious, I would love to say I won't be going back, but I work in tynemouth and usually it's the only place open when I fancy a pint. Really bad service, unless you know the bar staff it seems like you are waiting til rapture before you'll get served

Our favourite go to in the north east. Great beer selection, trendy decor, affordable prices and lovely staff all on the beautiful Tynemouth high street.

Quirky little place but a gain a must when visiting Tynemouth. It has a great selection of beer and a very unique trendy vibe. There’s some seating inside although not overly many spots to sit so at times required to stand but it’s well worth it. Dog friendly too and some seating outside.

Hosted a party in the upstairs area. Great staff. Great place to have a party

Lovely local pub with great atmosphere

I walked through the doors of this establishment with great vigour, towards what can only be described as one of the best pints of Guinness a young man could find. What met me however was a wave of heat that could stifle a pig. Regardless of the sweat lodge I found myself in I did enjoy my time. I would recommend that you bring a towel and soft footed sandals to fully enjoy the hot sauna that awaits. 10/10

Best bar in Tynemouth. Haven for the creative and quirky and always a warm welcome. Proper bar that welcomes all and their dogs. Great selection of local craft ales and a wicked cocktail board.

Really liked the atmosphere and general vibe. Good range of beers on tap and in fridge. Nice cocktails too.

To my opinion the finest and most cozy pub on Front Street. Good people, good music

A quirky bar with a great selection of beers. There is a great atmosphere at any time of the afternoon or evening as the volume of customers ebb and flow. The staff are very friendly and efficient. This soon became our favourite bar in Tynemouth whist on holiday.

Nice atmosphere and aesthetic, decent selection of beers, quality location right next to the coast and pretty good outside area when it's not super cold. Staff seemed professional enough but seemed kinda sad/annoyed, lack of smiles which you'd expect in a customer facing role. Other than that, no complaints from me.

Great little bar. Love the army men on the ceiling. Great selection of standard beers on tap. Staff always friendly. However they used to have a great bottle/can selection of beers. They don't now. That's very disappointing.

This is a likeable, quirky friendly bar that had the venerable Beer Lao in stock. Nice place and pleasant contrast to other nearby venues.

We wandered in here on a Tuesday night as it looked quite busy and we fancied a few casual drinks, and were so glad we did! The staff were sooo lovely and went out of their way to help and even just chat. the setting is really cool and unusual, drinks good and fairly priced for Tynemouth. Everyone seemed to know each other which we think is always a good sign too of regulars! If we go back to Tynemouth we will definitely return ☺️

Enjoyed a few visits here during our stay in Tynemouth! Great service, reasonable prices and nice outdoor seating area which was very welcome. Gin and tonics were our regular order and didn't disappoint.

It’s a coincidence that I love this pub which is just a few metres from my favourite fish restaurant, which is only a few metres from my favourite wine shop. I chose a pint of Theakston’s Best Bitter and it was exceptional. My wife and I enjoy the quirky atmosphere when it’s a quiet time, but when it’s busy it’s incredibly loud. But we’re old.

I like the friendly bar staff, the amazing choice of beers, wines, cocktails etc., the wonderfully quirky interior, the layout and the seating, the location, the locals, just everything about it is top notch. I'm reminded of that old American series 'Cheers' when I walk in. I just feel very much at home in this place. The Theakston's went down very well.

We popped in for a quick drink and ended up ordering some bar snacks, they were delicious! I recommend the squid and the falafel! The staff were really friendly and helpful. The bar itself was really quite chilled and relaxed

There were five of us for a Mother’s Day lunch. There was a great choice of Starters, Roasts, some vegetarian options and great desserts too. Portion sizes are very good and the food looks good. It’s well presented and tastes great. I had Ham and lentil soup to start and then the Roast Beef which was perfectly tender. Huge and tasty Yorkshire Pud, Roast Potatoes carrots, cabbage and cauliflower cooked perfectly, (not overdone). Everyone else’s meals also looked and tasted great. There were a stack of empty plates and happy people by the end of the meal. We have already booked to come back with friends on Sunday.

Good selection of beers and atmosphere. It was a good sign when we were about to enter when an old man walking along the road said "Good choice, best pub in Tynemouth". Not very big, but welcoming.

We came in here for a couple of drinks and were very impressed with the quirky decor, great background music and general ambience. There was a very good range of drinks and I had a lovely pint of local ale served by a very helpful barmaid.
