The Cookhouse and Pub is adjacent to a Premier Inn providing the restaurant to the hotel. It was busy with guest from the hotel but we managed to get a table though we hadn't booked. I had the creamy chicken and pulled ham pie which came with plenty of tasty filling but the pastry was like concrete. It came with a choice of chips or mash and peas. I had chips which were probably frozen and mediocre. Gravy would have been nice. My friend had fish and chips also with peas (garden or mushy). She said the fish was delicious. The chips and peas also mediocre. Price wise both mains I thought were overpriced. £11.99 for me and £12.99 for my friend. We both had desert she a crumble with custard. The crumble was good but needed moor custard which came separately in a small jug. I had a brownie and ice cream which was unctuous. Desserts were reasonably priced at £5.99. In general the menu offers typical pub grub. There's a children's menu somewhat limited as was the vegetarian option. Can't remember if vegans are catered for.

A well run pub/restaurant, I've eaten here three days in a row while staying at the hotel next door. The staff are very friendly and professional especially during busy periods. Would like to thank Sam and Abigail for their exceptional service during my visits.

A massive thank you to Peter for making sure my meal was dairy free and safe to eat, with a life threatening dairy allergy it is unsettling eating food in a new environment and worrying incase of an allergic reaction but Peter very kindly went out of his way to check everything was dairy free and exceed expectations by coming out to make sure I was okay and reassured me everything was safe to eat and understood my worries and reassured me. I’m very grateful for your help, and can’t thank you enough for making sure everything was okay.

Really good food. Smothered platter was cooked lovely. The gammon was succulent and tasty. The steak I chose to meduim rare and was very good. The skin on chips was tasty along with the coleslaw. Chicken goujons were slightly too crispy. The only downside was not enough cheese. Would recommend.

We enjoyed the food and staff were attentive and helpful. It wasn't busy when we arrived as it was late evening, so we enjoyed our meal in a calm, comfortable atmosphere. We will definitely come back the next time we are over this side of the country.

Friendly staff and fast service what more could you ask for, I really liked the interior and it was a great experience, very good solid food.

Service and staff were amazing. Steak was tough and gristley, onion rings burnt. Desserts were spot on. Prices were reasonable.

Good for coeliacs, knowledgeable and careful.

The place is only in business because of the hotel next door. Front of house staff are entitled and if they don’t like the look of you they treat you like dirt. I’ve reserved tables and got there to be waiting for 20 minutes to be seated. Staff will withhold items on menu if they see fit and they feel like you’ve had enough. Avoid this sham of a business.

Can't speak about the food as didn't have a meal

The opening times are wrong. It's very disappointing to arrive when you think you have an hour only to be turned away.

My relatives stayed in hotel and they ate here for 2 breakfasts and Dinner. They are all in their 80’s and said the Manager (don’t know his name but he’s from Yorkshire) was really kind and helpful. They said the breakfasts were excellent and good value for money. We all enjoyed our Dinner.

Good food, friendly staff but service was a bit slower than normal. We were not impressed for our vegetarian friend with broken hand who finds food hard to cut up one handed ordered eggs, beans, chips, the waiter did not explain this would be charged as a full priced meal as "sausage and mash" for £10.89, if she had explained this we would have asked for the sausages on separate plate so we could give our friend some money and eat the sausages. Instead for chips as a side order cost £3.00, two eggs I have never been charged more than £3.00 to go with a steak, and portion bean cannot have been more than £2.00 in total £8 most likely less our friend was charged £10.89. At Farmhouse Inn pubs you can have full portion chips plus two eggs for under £4. It was upsetting for our friend with her broken hand who was just looking for something easy to eat one handed. Goodwill and helpfulness seem totally lacking from the Holystone Cookhouse management.

Popped in with some friends and I was pleasantly surprised. The exterior and interior are very cute and the food is good, especially at that price. I had the Sunday roast and it came with a lot of food, including two huge Yorkshire puddings (the best part of a roast!)

The food was incredibly nice, i was expecting it to be just 'pub' food, the food was amazing, eaten here 3 days on the trot, would love to be coming back but as it's only for work i won't be returning, it's unfortunately too far to pop in as i would be a regular! Emma has been a 10/10 host, making sure we was happy, the service provided was the best i have had to date. A credit to the buisness, a really lovely lady and a true professional!! 5* all 3 days!

I don't usually leave good reviews unless it's worth actually a review and this place is top top tier! I've stayed at many premier inns before for work and the food is usually awful which would usually be attached to the Premier Inn BUT I was shocked! The food was literally 10/10 and I couldn't find any fault whatsoever! We was looked after by Emma and she was very friendly and extremely helpful! Thankyou Emma for making our visit enjoyable, cracking food and service!

Visiting Newcastle from Scotland. Emma served us perfectly. Very friendly and efficient, always smiling. An example for others. If she doesn’t train others then she should be. Very good food at a good price as well.

Waited over half an hour for the food and it wasn't even hot! Happened to another table too when their soup was cold, they waited an age for it to be heated up. Food was very average for price.

We sometimes go for the meal deal which is good value and doesn't break the bank for a midweek meal. Decent portion size. Service is always very slow so don't expect to pop in for quick meal. Food is as expected from these types of establishments. All in all it's okay

Wonderful, good value for money meal whilst working away. We were served by a very polite and helpful waitress called Katie who went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. GREAT!

Very poor food, our meals were luke warm, we both ordered mixed grills, the sausge looked raw in colour, my steak was fatty and extremely poor quality. Very thin and folded over to look bigger. My gammon was the same quality, fatty and unacceptable. My husband meat was so much better quality. I explained this to the waitress, and she was apologetic and polite, she did offer to take it back to the kitchen, but we waited do long for the original meal, and we wanted to eat together. My granddaughter was starving, she waited ages for her meal also. And they forgot to put the peas on her plate, we had to ask for them. Then another long wait for her pudding. Overall very disappointing and a massive let down. Certainly not value for money. We won't be back.

I came here for my work Christmas party and the food was a little disappointing. There was an older female staff member on the bar who was extremely rude but the other members of staff were lovely.

The only thing worse than the food was the service. Meals did not come out together which meant some were finished before others meals even arrived. Avoid. The older lady behind the bar was extremely rude, gravy was brought out in a steel catering jug! I could go on, but really don't want to waste anymore of my time on this venue.

My wife’s experience . On Sunday 3rd December she attended a staff Christmas Party. The meal was pre-booked and started well. Being a vegetarian she pre-booked a main meal of vegetables only. When it arrived it had fake meat on the plate to her disgust. Vegetarians be aware !!!! The one star was given for the staff only.

Stay here quiet often, really comfortable, good food in the adjacent Cookhouse restaurant. Ideal location for exploring the coast and Newcastle.

Busy pub/restaurant but booked a table earlier in the day so no problem. Was dining alone so was seated on the “single diner” table near to the kitchen, no fault with it, radiator to the side along with a double socket. Had the big stack burger with chips which was filling enough and reasonably tasty. A pleasant waitress called Emma served me and helped with my question about breakfast times. Overall as it goes a reasonable visit with no faults

Staying at the Holystone Premier Inn and with a bitterly cold wind outside, rather than driving into Newcastle city centre to eat as we had the evening before, we decided to have dinner in the Cookhouse & Pub next door and we really couldn't fault the diining experience. The food was great, the price very reasonable and in particular the attention we received from our waitress Sophie was faultless - the staff at the far more expensive restaurant we ate in on the previous night could learn a lot from her! We wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.

Visited for Breakfast as we’re travelling through the area. Nice venue clean and tidy, good food options too. Staff friendly and engaging. 4 star instead of 5 as there’s only 1 coffee machine available during breakfast (or at least during our visit in November 23) for the whole restaurant so as it got busy there was a queue. However, will not hesitate to visit again, nice place.

We stayed 2 nights and very much enjoyed our 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts. The staff were excellent, especially manageress Lynn and waitress Sophie.

Poor. We had not been for 6 months due to poor experiences so thought we would hive it another try. Ordered steak as it was advertised with home cooked chips. When our plates arrived yhey were oven chips. False advertising.

The food was good solid chain pub food can’t say much more about it. The staff however were definitely noteworthy, Sophie and Emma were very friendly and attentive even the chef brought some meals out and was very jovial, staff attitude makes a huge difference to customer service and these folks were fabulous, make sure these staff are appreciated, they make the business successful!! We visited 27/10/23 and were in at 8pm. Thanks team!!

Lovely! Perfect actually, as we were staying at the premier inn next to it and I have to say I may not have gone there otherwise. However, I will now go back to brewers fayre. It’s not the cheapest if I’m honest but the menu is very varied and the service was brilliant. Our waiters were really helpful and polite. They took time to get the order right and checked in on us a couple of times. Also helpful with directions - thank you! The atmosphere was very relaxed which was very welcome. We sat in the conservatory and took our time. Give this place a try you’ll not be disappointed.

Yeah, what is there not to like! You get to fill up on pretty much all breakfast options, and kids eat free with a paying adult! Cereals, toast, fruit, juices, mini crossaints, and mini choclate crossaints. Also, American pancakes. Then out came the waitress to take my full English order... Me "full English please" Waitress "is that 1 2 or 3 of everything"?" Me.... I love you! (Just kidding) but yes food was spot on and enough to make my family roll me out of there.

Popped in for some lunch. Went for the steak and ale pie and a pulled pork or chicken pie, can’t remember which. Anyway, the filling was tasty enough but the crust was as hard as nails. Not great for a pie. Steak and ale one was a bit better. Portion sizes were on the small side too. Service was very good though and a shout out to Zara and Ella for that. Well done girls.

Went as family of 4 adults, service was very good with Emma and cannot thank her enough for that. Even when drinks were served 1 was with Ice which i had specified not to be included, Emma apologized and a fresh drink was made this time without the Ice. The service was bad from the start, with the greeter being too busy talking to bar staff to notice us arrive and the waitress was rude, and unapologetic to us for the overly long wait to order after requesting a few minutes to look at...

This restaurant is nice and clean with very pleasant staff . The food was well cooked and reasonable in price. I would say however the lager is a bit expensive.

We ate on consecutive nights and both times they got the bill wrong. The first night they said one of the meals wasn’t on the special deal (it was) and the second, they wanted to charge us for a bottle of wine that they had...

No complaints with the food. But…. Friday they offer £5 off a bottle of wine after 5pm. Except they have no wine, well not the wine on offer. They do have a cheaper bottle but can not offer you a reduction as it’s company policy...
