Not the best for fish and chips Rotten really fish was definitely birdseye and chips are far too chunky to eat and what was supposed to be grease proof paper had disintegrated so every mouthful had brown paper amongst it for £13-14 Waterfront a few doors down is a lot better

Such a waste of time. Should have seen the red flags. Tried to call them all day and no one picked up so thought it might be busy. Took a chance and ended up being the first in. The staff were shocked to see us. Service was bare minimal. Really poor front of house to match the really poor seafood cooking. Ordered languistines sharer platter for the table and they were the worst I've ever tasted. They were so over cooked that they were flowery and just became mash. I had the burger lobster and it was a total rip off. You got a tiny bit of lobster tail bit of meat on two dry patties. £26 for a tiny bit of lobster and not half a lobster as advertised. Where is the claws etc. Chips were also under cooked and had to be sent back. Waiter was also confused on how to split the bill but we wanted to just get out of there so 1 of us paid the bill and the rest settled between us. From someone Tynemouth born and bread, this place does not know what they're doing and not worth it at all

Had a group meal there last night and the food was outstanding and the staff were superb. Nothing was a bother to them and we all had a great night out . Would highly recommend booking it in advance as it gets very busy . 5 star all the way 👍

Very small place but dont let that put you off. The plates of food were generous and tasty. Some nice reductions and puree here without being silly or poncy so good stuff. The tables are very close together so if you have anything secret to talk about use pen and paper but a nice small friendly place with parking out side.

Don’t bother! I was disappointed with my experience at Dodgin’s Yard. I attempted to email in advance to reserve a table for a birthday celebration but received no response, which should have been a warning sign. When we arrived at 7:30 PM, there were several empty tables, yet the two male staff members at the bar ignored us for several minutes and then responded with rudeness. Despite the restaurant still serving food, we were told the kitchen was closed, without any apology. This was frustrating, especially since the website states the restaurant is open until 11:30 PM, with no mention of kitchen closing times. Considering it was the opening night of North Tyneside’s restaurant week and the limited menu, it seems unreasonable that the kitchen could not handle a partially full restaurant. Save yourselves the disappointment and poor standard of service and go elsewhere! The company has now blocked me on Facebook as I sent them a message asking why I was turned away - totally unprofessional and disgusting attitude.

Came here for our work Christmas night out , the food was spot on we never had the chance to take photos before as we all just dived right into it but it was fantastic, staff were very friendly and keeping up with the drink orders! Will be definitely be back again!

Went for our christmas night out food was amazing service was good when we looked on line it said the place closed after 11 we asked for sweets but told the kitchen was closed this was at 8.55 pm they were clearing the table around us some of us left our drinks because this made us uncomfortable we felt we were getting pushed out as we were the last table in

Haven't been to Dodgins yard for a couple of years now but went Sunday with members of the family. Gotta say the food wasn't bad but the Sunday roasts were served luke warm. The fish and chips my mother in law got however we're very good. The general atmosphere of the place seems to have dipped a bit as well. Friendly staff as was then but won't be rushing back.

Been here a fair few times. Staff always friendly. Really enjoy the food, although can be hit and miss with service. Sometimes food takes a while or is not piping hot when it does come. Breakfasts are good and generous portion.

First visit had fish and chips,nice place good service food ok

Not impressed, over priced! Can't just get a tea or coffee and a piece of cake or something light for lunch. It's ideal for a full size meal which you'd expect at night for dinner, but again it's very pricey.

Been to Dodgins many times and the food is always excellent. Went tonight with my folks (plus dog) and despite them experiencing very difficult times (electrical issues, meaning kitchen problems obviously) they were as professional and courteous as ever. The young lady serving was fantastic and when the food arrived, it was as delicious as ever. Thankyou Dodgins Yard, you deserve to be packed out every day of the week. Keep doing what you do!

AMAZING BRUNCH!!❤️❤️ Just wanted to pop on a review about our delicious brunch on Sunday as it was that good it should be raved about! I saw on their instagram they had a platter(the Anglers board) with lots of seafood and fish and thought wow that’s right up our street..BUT it had fish cakes and goujons so wonder if they would do gf? They replied straight away on instagram and said it was no problem at all! They could swap for other products or bring out on a separate plate. My partner chose for them to be on a separate plate as he was desperate to eat them…but I would say you really don’t need them the portions were so huge and they weren’t missed! When we arrived they asked if we would like any sides. The chunky and I mean CHUNKY chips were gf so we went for them. I have to say they were soooo good! As a massive seafood lover I enjoyed it so much! The portions were huge and the lobster and prawns so fresh you could taste the sea! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I can not recommend them enough, the staff before and during our meal was so lovely and accommodating. I didn’t feel an inconvenience at all and of course it was nice to wash it down with some delicious fizz! They don’t normally do it on a Sunday but if you preorder they are happy to which I thought was very kind of them. Such amazing value for money, delicious and great with allergies!

Called in here before a funeral of someone who had promised to bring me here for lunch but we never got the opportunity before he passed unexpectedly I’m glad I made the effort because the food was fantastic for a noon time on a beautiful October day next to the Tyne in fact it would have been amazing any time Relaxed chilled with great service give it a go The seafood comes direct from their own trawler.

Recommended by Tyneside life on YouTube. Went on a Sunday and had fish n chips. Lovely chunky chips and large fish. Wife said her Sunday roast was the best she's ever had, and we've had a few. Definitely going back

Wonderful food really good value for money

Great food but I do not expect yapping dogs when I'm paying £100 for an evening meal and drinks. I'm a dog owner but would not dream of taking my dogs to a restaurant for an evening meal.

3.5 stars . Ordered the £55 hot seafood board for 2 , with 1 side of chips . While the food was super tasty some of the platter was tepid at best . The goujons and chips ( they say chips but in reality potatoes wedges like cut length ways quaters, fries they are not .) Were piping hot the mussels too . But the langoustine was just warm as was the salmon and fish cakes . The girl ate the small half portion of lobster she said it was delicious. For the price I feel something was lacking they miss the mark and this really could be 5* . Simple things like finger bowls and a side of bread to mop up the lovely mussel sauce put tarter and sweet chilli sauce down with the food . Shouldn't have to ask for accompaniments . The tables are that horrible sticky feeling on the wood and parts of the banister felt like it hadn't been cleaned in a while crusty bits on the underside yuck. On the subject of banisters the toilets are up stairs no accessible loos to be seen . So would I go again , probably not. I did hear others complimenting the staff on the food though.

I really don't want to criticise because the food was excellent and the service was great. But the place feels a little tired - the menus are dog eared and sticky and really need to be replaced. It's the little things that make the experience...

Lovely food, reasonably priced.

I booked this for food the other night with my other half. It’s a small restaurant yet the service was terrible! They had 3 staff members waiting on and it took ages for our order/drinks to be taken, ages for the side plates to come after we were given our food (it was going cold), they never took our plates away, we had to ask for the bill and we were misinformed about whether a dish was hot or cold. I’m pregnant so had to have the fish hot, which I told them. The giant prawns came which were cold. The food was lovely though, delicious in fact. Just the service let this restaurant down. I wouldn’t come back sadly.

Been meaning to sample the menu here for a while. Disappointed to say the least. Waitress didn't want to be there for a start. Diet coke was flat and tasted watered down. Fish and chips, more batter than fish. To be fair other dishes being served to other tables looked good. So many exceptional eating places on the quay, won't be going back in a hurry.

Food was great but service was really bad. The two young lads that were on tried their best but the place was badly understaffed. There was no manager there to help out. We were a party of 8. Our table was still not cleared even though we had complained 3 times. We left after waiting 30 mins for ice cream for the kids. They still didnt get any! Well understaffed.

Rude staff, average food and cold atmosphere. We’ve been 3 times over the last year, sadly every time we’ve been met with rude staff who stood around chatting and greet you as if you’re not welcome, even if you’ve booked. The music was way too loud so it was hard to talk. We had a Sunday dinner and the chicken was tough, potatoes not great and we were charged £1.50 extra for gravy, on top of the £16.50 for the dinner it was for. Bit of a shame, they also locked up with us inside, 3.5 hours before the advertised closing time. We’ve tried it enough times to now know it’s not worth trying again.

Disappointing Sunday meal. We both had the roast chicken buns with roast potatoes and stuffing. It was actually one roast potato and sadly it tasted funny (my wife agreed, we thought a bit chemically). The roast chicken was ok but had the skin on the roast so was a bit stringy. The platter it was served on looked nice but was impractical. Couldn't pour the gravy as it would just drain off the side. It's a nice place, the staff are canny. Maybe we just hit a bad day but room for improvement. Put the meal on a proper plate, serve with roast potatoes (several of them, not one) and maybe give a bit bigger portion

This was recommended by a friend. I have been twice. Won't be back on a hurry. Food was burnt and old.the first time, cold the second. No thirds for me thank you

Had an absolutely delicious meal here. I had the monkfish with crushed potatoes and asparagus, my husband had the steak, and my son, the lobster. The food was top notch, and as it was steak night, it should've been busy, so we were surprised to find it not even quarter full. The England game had been played earlier, and maybe that had something to do with it. Sadly, there was no vibe or atmosphere. We will visit again, the food was so good.

Popped in on Saturday morning, ordered the breakfast, didn't realise the size of it,much too much for me( 73yrs ) tasted and presented very well. Only criticism is the server was pushing food,I ordered tea but felt pressured to order food

Popped in for a light lunch so opted for a sandwich. My partner had the slow cooked brisket, I had the chicken. Lovely brioche buns with an extremely generous serving of meat. Roast potatoes and sage and onion on the side. With coffee just a few pence over £20 for us both. Service was friendly and prompt. We are looking forward to a return visit. We ate inside but there is outdoor seating as well.

Went here for lunch on Bank Holiday and it was really busy. We were sat right next to the door and I felt a little squashed in. It took a little while to get menus and we were asked what we wanted to drink without a drinks menu. Food came out relatively quick and was fresh. I had cod and chips and their was little taste to either unfortunately but they were cooked well. My friend had half a lobster but was short changed with what she actually received. She did mention this to the staff and got more lobster which was really good of them! Prices were reasonable and the aesthetic is nice. Not a place I'm in a rush to get back to personally but certainly a nice restaurant.

Booked for 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday, they were closing doors. They had made an error and apologising they invited us in. Food was good, as norm, and other diners arrived. It's when things go wrong and a business steps up to the line that defines a good establishment. Well done I say. No hesitation in going again.

Food was bland, loaded fries had 4 prawns on and no other seafood so basically plate of chips for £14.99.Fish tacos in bought tacos and tasteless. Its a pity as the staff and venue are nice. Wont be going again.

I had a tug boat inspection just cross the road and following the finish i was quite hungry and seen the Dodgins yard is open . Just walked in to have something, 10 min later i sat down , place was fully booked and people was turning back from the door because no space left. And you can't blame any of the people coming to eat this place. Food was absolutely lovely , i love my fish and i can tell you that this place know how to cook fish . My seabass was delicious with nice vegetables and puree. If I end up in the region again , will definitely call again ..

Had to send three coffees back as freezing. Food was warm and the service was abismal. Our suger thrown across the table,as none of our hot drinks came with any,much have been too much of an effort for the server.

Went here for breakfast on Saturday morning and it was fabulous. The pictures of food on the website are really good but the plat of food that lands in front of you is so much better. I had the full English and it was amazing. Really tasty and well cooked. It arrived hot and I really enjoyed it. I took my youngest with me and orders a few bits off menu which was no trouble at all. We really enjoyed the chilled atmosphere and had a lovely leisurely breakfast together. I felt it was reasonably priced especially considering the quality of the food and cooking. Can't wait to go back for dinner and have one of the tasty looking lobsters. Ps the sausage were some of the best I've tasted on a cooked breakfast.

Went here for a Sunday lunch, I don't ever enjoy a Sunday lunch out. I prefer my own. I ordered the Lamb Shank, and my partner ordered the Trio of Meats.. nice veg perfectly cooked.. Really good food, first time I've enjoyed a Sunday lunch out in a very long time. The Lamb was lovely and just fell off the Bone, the Beef nice good bit of slow cooked beef and just broke away with the fork 😋 the belly Pork with Crackling so yummy and then the Chicken which was also lush. The only issue was the veg, potatoes and Yorkshire were Luke Warm but the Meat was Nice and Hot just a shame the rest wasnt the same, also unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked but nice big Yorkshire puds if you like them well done.. The place itself is a cute little bistro type restaurant, nice and clean... The staff are friendly but not very interactive with customers, which lets any business down... I'm not sure what's up with people who work in customer services these days, but what happened to Service with a Smile 😃 ... We will still give it another go, but next time for the seafood, they had some lovely Live Fresh Lobsters 🦞 in a tank waiting to be picked to be cooked 😋

Came here for lunch and had the tapas. Went for three items and they had a deal with a bottle of wine included. I left absolutely stuffed and the quality of food was amazing. Lovely place with great service. Can’t wait to go back.

I had the pleasure of eating here with my friend for my birthday meal - the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent, Hayley was really welcoming and offered great advice about the specials board and main menu, we even got to have a chat with the chef and discuss the new menu - which we will definitely be back to try!

Had a lovely lunch with family. When I booked I was told about which seafood wasn't available that day - I appreciated this being made clear in advance and there were still lots of options to choose from. The food was excellent, service a bit slow but very friendly. Will definitely visit again.

Great little eatery with it's own trawler supplying fresh seafood, it got full pretty quick so recommend pre booking as a couple were turned away whilst we were there... Need to try it in the summer and eat outside on their quayside tables

My husband and I came here on the 7th December. We were greeted by the nicest waitress. She took our order fast and the food came out quick. We got prawns in garlic and lemon, beef brisket, coleslaw, chips and onion rings. It was the tastiest food we’ve had in a long time. I would highly recommend it to everyone. We can’t wait to go back.

Didn't find the exterior very inviting, but pleasantly surprised with the interior rather quirky. Went for Sunday lunch first time. Good selection on menu. Plenty of meat and good variation of veg arrived at the table. It was hot and tasty. Seasoned well, possibly to much black pepper for some. Would ask them to hold back on it next time. Again good selection of deserts. Fair size portions. Yummy! I would definitely go back. Would also recommend booking first, quite a few people had to be turned away. Popular place.

Never took off the items I asked them to take off my burger and 40min later than the time they gave me after changing the delivery slot before hand a minute after it was due to be delivered definitely won't be using agen

First time ordering, food I received was nice however the tacos are supposed to come with salsa, guacamole and sour cream and only got the sour cream and the pudding was meant to have ice cream and didn’t which is disappointing considering the price I paid.

Highly recommend this place for a date night. We ordered the Angler Board for 2, 2 fries and the battered onion rings. (Generous fries portions!) Everything was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere gave cosy, intimate vibes. The place is tastefully decorated with a seaside theme. We’ll definitely be back to try your other menu options!🤤

We had a delicious lunch, the beef brisket was really tasty and tender and the kofta was very flavoursome. We'd definitely be back as there was a good choice of dishes which we'd love to try.

Great food but sadly it was one of those days ...the staff had lost our reservation so we had to wait for a table then they lost the order so waited a while for our food. Once we had our food it was superb, beef, lamb and a trio of meats were served in true Sunday roast style. The staff were great and a free round of drinks made amends for the wait. Very good value overall.

We visited Dodgins Yard last night 01/09/23, upon entering we were seen to promptly by the nice girl on the floor. After having a chat about the menu, she immediately apologised for the fact everything may be a little slower tonight (not a problem for us as was a date night). Turns out the reason everything was slow was due to some unforeseen staffing issues and she was running the entire floor of 12 odd tables herself (including a large party). Not only was she greeting people, she was also taking orders for food and drinks, serving food, pouring drinks and making cocktails, checking in on all the patrons, clearing tables and I’m sure a host of other things we were unable to see! Despite all this we received exceptional service from the place and would 100% return, the food was delicious. I would just like to give a big shoutout to lady as she was exceptional under pressure and a real asset to the business. We will 100% be returning! Hopefully we aren’t a bad omen!
