This is the pub I always pay a visit when staying in Whitley Bay. Ever since 1997. It wasn't called The Brewery back then (Fritszgeralds?), but it's still the same good atmosphere. A typical "brown" English pub with some maritime decoration. Just lovely. I could sit her for hours. The only thing I would knock on is the menu. I miss the sandwiches. I went for the baguettes, but it is too massive for a light meal. A simple cheddar cheese sandwich would be just fine. But anyway, this is still my "local pub", when I visit Whitley Bay. Good beers, ciders and nice staff. Thanks again :)

Cracking pub beer really decent staff really friendly whats not to like. A pint is a tad more expensive than some places but quality drink. No idiots nice relaxing atmosphere 👌 Six months later Well update and it's not good.. returned to this pub after six months no clue what has happened the beer was terrible flat, the pub smelled damp and not pleasant the men's toilets need a deep clean awful smell here too, one of the bench seats in the lounge area was ripped to shreds and all the foam hanging out could go on all day just unbelievable from being a great pub to the worst in such a short time, wished I'd had the presence of mind to photo the damage etc.

It was all oK. The atmosphere is tired and dated. The food was tasty but menu is typical pub grub, not very healthy. If you're after cheap & cheerful in an older style atmosphere, then it's ok. Biggest let down was the loo. The gents toilet looked like a scene from Train Spotting! To be honest, If we had seen this first, we wouldn't have ordered food.

Absolutely disgusting I wouldn't have gave this a star if I was able too. !! After going to the jam jar cinema which I would give 100 stars..!! I have disabilities and as we approach the pub a member of staff having a tab break refused entry to the pub with the accusation that I was intoxicated..Sunday 07/07/24 at approx 8.30 pm I have disabilities and specifically in my right foot....!! Absolutely appalling and I would suggest that yr staff be trained on awareness of possible disabilities it's not often I get out with having disabilities as I am unable to walk And on this occasion this staff member totally spoiled our evening totally humiliated me and I felt degraded and hurt so for that reason I have left this review and I would never spend any time in this establishment U SHOULD BE AND HOPEFULLY WILL BE ASHAMED OF HOW YR STAFF MEMBERS TREAT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES 😡🤬😡😡🤬😡🤬😡

It was good, the place was quiet at the time of visiting but I could see it being busy at other times. My husband and I were out for a walk and some lunch. We weren't sure where to go for food but bumped into a friend that suggested The Brewery formerly Fitzgeralds. The bar itself has not changed much. But the staff were friendly and helpful and well the food was delicious the beef melted in our mouths the vegetables were all fresh not frozen as you often find nor were they over cooked, proper roasties and Yorkshire puds. Mmmm hats off to the chef we throughly enjoyed our lunch and we will definitely be returning.

A "Sports " bar with muted Sky TV everywhere and poppy music playing at a comfortable volume. Pub was warm and comfy, on a quiet Wednesday evening. As we were leaving a folk group, who were practicing in the back room, started up and the pop was turned down enough to hear them play. Wish we could have joined them! Beer was OK and cheap. Wine average. We were served by a very friendly member of staff and she pointed us to a nearby eatery!

I was ordering at the bar one day last week when I felt a couple of taps on my left leg. When I looked down, a large dog was rubbing its head against my trousers. I did not know where the owner was. I do not want to eat or drink in the same room as a dog but, in Whitley bay, such a choice has steadily been taken away from me. The reasons I do not want to eat or drink in close proximity with dogs are the same reasons why I would not want to eat or drink in close proximity with any type of animal i.e. their habits and their hygiene. I specifically mention dogs because, although there are over 2 million animal species identified by science, no other species is ever invited to share food and drink with humans in a public space. So why dogs? Even all of the owners of the other animals in the top ten pet list manage to keep their pets at home and never need to bring them into public spaces. When dogs are allowed to wander about off leash I don't even have the choice of sitting apart from the dog as the dog will come to me and intrude in my personal space. Many people are, justifiably, frightened of dogs. Although a small number of people have a phobia about dogs, fear of dogs is much more usually a rational response to the reality of dog behaviour and their unpredictable nature. I will not go into details but readily available statistics illustrate that what people fear about dogs is an all too common occurrence. Approximately 15% of the population is allergic to cats and dogs so there is a significant number of people who do not want to be near dogs for that reason. When you allow dogs to wander about off leash, the only options allergy sufferers have is to stay at home or make sure that they are stocked up on medication. Allergies and intolerances are usually taken very seriously in the hospitality industry but dog allergy is trivialised or ignored. For sufferers it is a considerable issue which restricts their freedom. All of the Whitley Bay Brewery establishments allow dogs off leash and all actively encourage dogs. Few people will complain about dogs, choosing to grin and bear it or to stay away. People with allergies will stay at home and, therefore, never complain. I was a regular at the Rockcliffe for over 20 years but stopped completely 3 years ago as the dog situation had got out of hand. I came to the conclusion that enough was enough and left. As the Rockcliffe now specifically mentions dogs in their advertising material, I will never go back. Those of us who want a dog free life have no options other than to tolerate the imposition of dogs everywhere we choose to go. A favourite phrase of dog worshippers when we complain is, "if you don't like it, go somewhere else." We are left with nowhere else to go. I enjoy all of the Brewery beers but, if it is a choice between drinking in the same room as loose dogs or staying at home, I would choose to stay at home every time.
