Second visit in a month and what a contrast. The first visit was wonderful, today's wasn't! I received a voucher for 30% off mains valid until 7th December so we thought we would go for lunch. The voucher wasn't accepted, with a reply that it wasn't valid there until next week. There is no start date on the voucher, just an end date. They also said that the voucher was for the Spread Eagle in Wednesbury, which we have never visited and is miles away. I have complained to Marstons and await their response.

Met up with friends for lunch, we all opted to have the carvery, this was so dissapointing. Beef was disgusting unable to cut it, vegetables very undercooked and the gravy was so watery and tasteless. We advised waitress when she cleared our plates about the inedible beef, she responded by saying she would let the chef know, noone came to discuss our comments or even acknowledge them in any way. Really poor customer service, certainly would not recommend or return.

We are group of contractors out of town and we have our break in the spread eagle the food is great. But there's a foul mouthed big bloke who sits on a very well laden stool who goes on about his knowledge and wheres he's been and what he's done. He's surrounded by a lot of old codgers who hang onto his every word as if they were his disciples and he was the messiah. You will need more than five loaves and two fishes.

We went for an early dinner on a Saturday at 4.30. I tried to order our meal on the app, however as I had a dietary requirement the app directed me straight to the bar staff for guidance. The lady who served me at the bar was really beyond rude, telling me that she couldn't advise me and after referring also to the bar manager who was equally as rude, they told me I had to check the website. On returning to my table, The Marstons website was incredibly difficult to negotiate and after putting in a gluten food allergy it only gave me 2 options from the main course menu that I could eat. It also advised me that I could eat various desserts like brownies and crumble which I know I can't have. We soon left the pub without ordering anything at all. If this is Marstons idea of hospitality, I wish them luck but we won't be returning any time soon.

One night stay. With daughter plus "cousin-in-law" and his two boys. Heading to airshow Sunday. Expensive (booked 3 weeks ahead). V. busy Saturday tea-time but we were found a table. Food fine, sensible portions. Waiting and bar service good. Bed comfortable, room dark and quiet. All great. Breakfast next day - food good. Waitress-ordered rather than self-service. I like that. Order quickly taken. I assume food 'fetched' from pre-cooked stations rather than cooked-to-order (other than eggs?) At the price, fine! Staff helpful throughout. Fun place.

First time we'd been there since September 2019. We'd always taken our cat-sitter there for a meal when we got back from holiday, so he said he'd book it for us. 7.00 Saturday... but when it came through it was 7.00 Sunday. He rang to change this but no-one got back to him., though he was told there were seats if you just turned up. So we went there at 6.30, having just driven back from Wales and unpacked the car... and were told there were no tables for 3 till 7.30. So rather than go home again we went down the road and sat at the war memorial in Stretton for 3/4 hour, then turned up again. We hung around to be seated again, and were eventually put in what would have been a good place- almost a separate room in a corner- except for the two tables of six 16-17yr olds who were next to us and making a racket, complaining about things, arguing about whose meal was which etc; it was all friendly- but very loud. We sat there and sat there. I worked out that if I was going to stick to my diet I'd have to ask for prawn cocktail without the sauce, as it was the only thing which specified brown bread. When the waitress appeared at the next tables then went away, both cat-sitter and I shouted after her, and she came back and took orders for both starters and mains, we weren't offered the option of drinks but were at that stage more bothered about food. We sat there and waited. The other tables were served and we sat there. Then my prawn cocktail arrived, no sauce (thanks very much!) but white bread. So I left the bread. The men had brie dippers with very second-hand-looking lettuce and no chutney to dip into. Managed to catch the waitress again and she went to investigate, brought cutlery but they'd run out of chutney. Run out of brown bread. By then the dippers were cold. She did say, without prompting from us, that she'd get the price of the starters taken off. We ate. Decided to save time by holding onto our cutlery for main course too. Sat there again and waited. Read the menus. The longest word on them was accompaniments with 15 letters. We made anagrams, found all the alphabet, etc. One of the lads at the nearby tables suggested a food fight and was ticked off by one of his friends. A paper aeroplane was thrown. Then my husband and the catsitter received their meals. Lasagne again had second-hand-looking lettuce, going dark and wilted. Scampi seemed okay, but again shop white sliced bread with it not what was listed. I 'd gone for carvery and didn't get mine with theirs. The carvery chef was making up a plate, which was left at the end of the counter; I could see him looking around for the owner but didn't like to claim it, as i'd expected to be asked if I wanted gravy, etc: I had been asked which meat I'd like but nothing else. Sat there while the men ate.Eventually the man who'd been at the door when we came in brought my meal. Yorkshire pudding- I don't eat white flour, so I gave that to the cat-sitter- and gravy on everything; I hadn't been going to have gravy. And I knew it wasn't mine when I found turkey, beef, rather salty gammon and some pigs in blankets,,, but I wasn't going to complain, I just ate it. And then after a long time the waitress came to clear away and asked if we wanted desserts... we didn't. By then we just wanted the bill. She came back when we called her as she was dealing with another table, she asked if we wanted drinks. By then we didn't, and were trying not to get shirty with her. I asked for the bill and we paid, went home via offlicence and got cider there. We'd been seated at c 7.30 pm and paid the bill (minus the two brie dippers starters) at 9.13. I don't think it was her fault, she seemed to be the only person dealing with about 5 -8 tables, but if they couldn't provide what was on the menu they should've warned us before we got that far. Not feeling inclined to try again; plenty of other places which may be a better experience (it wouldn't take much). As payment for a week's cat-sitting it was terrible. And my husband still hasn't had his first pint in a pub since Aug 2020 which he'd been looking forward to...

Had booked a table, asked if we could sit outside as weather was lovely. We're told yes, we can use the qr code on the table to order. Great. Ordered drinks for 5 of us, they eventually arrived 25 mins later. Then tried to order food, kept saying some items unavailable, but didn't say what. Eventually went inside to explain the problem. We were told we could eat if we went inside, we said we didn't want to go inside, that we had a table outside & had already ordered drinks from there. They said there were problems with ordering from outside, so I asked if we could order at the bar for outside, as people were ordering their food at the bar. We were told no. ‍♀️ So, needless to say, we left and went somewhere else. You would think these places would do what they can to get their money back in the tills, but not this place!

First meal out with my husband in a very long to g time, the only good part of our experience as the lively waitress who hasn’t been there that long, she was amazing and I’m sorry I didn’t get her name but she as very attentive and apologetic. I ordered the cod and my husband ordered a burger when it arrived the cod was warm at very very best. I told the waitress who quickly returned it to the kitchen for me. The meal that was served as a replacement was just awful, it was hot but it was also extremely overcooked. The fish was almost nonexistent and dry and the batter was near on burnt, The “bloomer bread” was 1 slice of thin (cheap) bread with no butter! I asked for butter and I was brought a dollop of margarine in a plastic tub. My husbands burger was chewy and dry. I wish I had complained to the manager now after reading recent reviews! We will not be returning !

My wife and I chose to take my elderly parents to the Spread Eagle for our first meal with them in over a year.On arrival, we were shown to a table right next to a family with several young children . Maybe, in such a large pub, it would be better if all the families with children could be grouped together while all the 'adults only' tables are given space from them as we endured much crying and other noise during the first 40 minutes of our time there. We ordered drinks, which were brought to our table at exactly the same time as a waitress came to take our food order. The two waitresses didn't seem to be aware of each other, one trying to ask us what we wanted to order while the other simultaneously tried to ask us which drinks belonged to whom! It was chaotic, so we took the drinks from the tray and distributed them ourselves. The food, when it arrived, was very poor. We ordered two 'carvery' meals and two 'steak pie and chips'. Apart from the two steak pies, nothing was truly hot. It was mostly warm, at best. The pots of gravy were just about cold. (We asked for a replacement - and received another tepid one.)One member of the party asked for some salt and pepper as the food was delivered. The waitress acknowledged the request and went away, apparently to get some, but never returned. We had to ask again.Deciding that cold desserts would be a safer option than hot ones, we duly ordered some - but after waiting for over 20 minutes, we gave up, went to the bar and paid. The manager listened to our explanations as to why we were unhappy with the whole experience and, in good grace, discounted the cost of the meals.I wished we had looked at the current reviews before booking as it seems we have had a similar experience to others who have gone there recently.

We got fed up after more then half an hour of waiting, left and wrote an email to complain.Thankfully, we got a reply very soon with apologies and an offer to have complimentary breakfast at a day and time of our choice. This completely made up for the first time. We just had our breakfast today and found the same great food we've known there, chilled atmosphere, and the staff were amazing this time. The man on the carvery was agitated and didn't really listen to my requests, (I had to repeat myself more than twice), and kept disappearing into the kitchen between serving me and my two friends. The food was average and the cauliflower cheese was just mush. The ordered meal arrived later. Three of us had finished our meal and my friend was still eating when one of the waiting staff (female), came and cleared the table as she was eating. No manners, very rude! Its a large place so we thought we would be easily on a table on our own but we ended up with a couple right behind us & a family to the left of us. There was 5 tables on this platform & 3 ended up being occupied even though the place was almost empty. Both my son & myself became anxious & couldn't understand it. But the carvery was well done as we were asked what we wanted so wouldn't touch anything on there or be near the server. We ate our meal quickly & went outside to the park area. We chlse from a set reduced menu and I sent my partner to order and pay, he came back to me saying the bill was £26 odd.....2 mains came to around £18 and we had a pint and a diet coke?? £8 for thoes drinks?? We went as part of this eat out to help out as the website said they had 50% off...eg 2 for 1....but we got charged full price...I wouldnt normaly complain but the portion sizes were quite small...i had about 12 chips and 2 oinion rings, it reminded me more of a £4 weatherspoons lunch to be honest. Deserts were okay. Ive messaged the company, im hoping the can resolve this issue and compensate for what we shouldnt have had to pay...we didnt get a recipt which is quite poor because nlw we dont have proof of purchase....

Turned up on a social distanced mass en-route home after staying in a hotel in Wolverhampton where breakfast hadn’t been good. The staff were very hospitable and despite them suggesting the food may take longer than normal or arrived quickly, hot and tasty . Two vegetarian breakfasts, pancakes for children and cooked breakfast for children too, plus Beans on toast and three full breakfast. Drinks came quickly too. Good food at a very reasonable cost. I would definitely go there again

First visit out for lunch now that pubs are open. Perplexed by the set up here. We picked it because it's so big, plenty of room to separate people. However they have half the space empty and everyone on top of each other in one half of the pub. There is no way tables were 2 metres apart. Literally people back to back. Wont be risking this place again.

Well my first visit to a pub since lifting of lockdown was to the Spread eagle and what a disappointing experience. How come prices seem to have almost doubled in three months. Was stunned to be charged £5.00 for a single pint of ipa bitter. This is London prices in the black country. Is this how to encourage people to support local businesses. I am self employed and have been off work for over 3 months and have received nothing whatsoever so then to be overcharged by my local boozer is disgusting. Wetherspoons here i come. The boss may be a bit of a idiot but he doesn't rip his customers off. Goodbye spread eagle, no wonder there was only a handful of patrons in there

Visited over the past few days. Room was superb, both very clean and very quiet.Bathroom could have done with a shelf and hooks etc. Basin plug was of no use at all.No instructions on how to use the heating in the bedroom. A small card with details would have been helpful.Restaurant was OK but looks tired . Ordered our meal, which was not of good standard. Steaks were not good and chips ?? Restaurant was also very cold where we sat (reserved table). Lack of staff at the bar was very noticeable, with many people waiting to be served.

I have been coming to the Spreadeagle with my friend for around 20 years. The food has been pretty average for all of this time but it's inexpensive and the location is midway between us. Tonight was the worst it has been. Lack of staff. Hard overcooked scampi brought to the table before advising me to go up to the carvery. No one asked if our meals were ok. The lady who cleared our plates just took them without saying a word. When we paid I was asked how it had been and I explained not very good. The chap on the bar deducted both meals as I was explaining. No eye contact. No apology. The Spreadeagle is definitely poor at the moment.

Four of us had lunch at the Spread Eagle recently. Looks good from the outside, large impressive pub, with a cavernous inside with numerous alcoves and spaces, rather attractive. The speciality is a carvery, and two of us had that. The meats were pretty dry and rather tasteless, and only warm. Vegetables were limp and tasteless, had been standing for a while and looked to have been prepared from frozen or canned ingredients. Again, warm rather than hot. Overall a rather unpleasant meal. One of us had fish & chips. The chunky chips were O.K., the mushy peas were again just warm and became cold as the meal continued. The fish was a smallish fillet -- the fish itself was O.K., if a bit dry, but the batter was dark brown and dull, instead of shiny orangey coloured, and had probably been cooked once, then re-dunked later to heat it up again. The end of the fillet was curled up like a scorpion's tail!! So really disappointing. One had a pork chop, which was O.K. but rather chewy, and the vegatables were like for the carvery, tasteless and almost cold, looked sad on the plate. We were within a whisker of complaining or sending it all back, but decided to let it go and just not return. Desserts were fine, but were the usual pub items probably bought in and chilled, so couldn't be mucked up. Staff were friendly and efficient, prices are good value if the food had matched up..

Having recently moved to the area (summer 2019) we’ve had several fantastic meals so opted to have our Family Christmas Dinner here. The pub was set beautifully for the day - lots of care had gone into setting of the tables! Our starters arrived promptly and were absolutely delicious. I had the soup - yum! A cheerful waitress cleared our tables and explained the process for our main course - easy! The kids loved that they could choose what went on their plates - happy faces all round! The food was hot and fresh, served with a smile too. We opted to have a short break after our mains, grab another drink - make room for puds! Within a few mins of letting our server know we were ready, we had our puds in front of us. Not too sure how I managed to fit in the chocolate roulade but WOW it was delicious. Couldn’t fault the food or service at all - will definitely be booking to come back again next year. Thank you to the team on shift for giving up their Christmas so we could really enjoy ours!

Myself and the family have just had Christmas lunch here, very disappointing from the start, the table wasn’t ready for the time was booked which is fair for the time of year as it is very busy, the starters didn’t meet expectations and we had to ask what we had to do for our main meal as we were left to fend for our selves, the main course was shocking, wet plates, the Yorkshire pudding over cooked and the veg was under cooked.... once that was over we weren’t asked if we were ready for our dessert’s 25 minutes later I gave up and had to find someone to find out what was going on, 10 minutes later the dessert’s arrived, Mine came out cold and this was the last straw I got up and handed it back to a member of staff who wasn’t really bothered ...

We came here on the 6th December to have a get together and a meal with work colleagues, Dawn and I also booked into the hotel for the night so we could both have a drink and be safe. After a wonderful evening of drinks good food and company, and a good nights sleep we were looking forward to our breakfast, we went over to the pub, and was told to find a table and the waitress would be over shortly to take our order and to help ourselves to the continental breakfast while we wait, there wasn’t any croissants so I asked if there would be any more being brought out to be told they would be out in 5 mins, half an hour later with 2 glasses of orange juice still no croissants, also no waitress to take our breakfast order, so again I asked when they were going to be brought out in 5 mins, still no attempt to take our order for breakfast either, after another 15mins of the three of us from our group who had stayed over, I went up to the man who was taking orders to ask if he could come and take ours, which he finally did we ordered 3 classic breakfasts with slight changes (no biggie you might think) still no coffee or tea and we were not asked if we wanted one after a further 10 mins of no one coming to us for our drink order I went to the bar to order our 2 teas and a coffee which the only things that came quickly and were hot. Another 20 mins past and no breakfast when it finally came it was mediocre at best and cold and then I was told that the croissants were out not by a member of staff but another customer, (the croissants were actually chocolate brioch) they were the only things that were hot, the waitress came and took away my plate where there was nearly a full breakfast on!!! (It was that bad I couldn’t eat it) and didn’t even acknowledge that there was a problem. I am disgusted and disappointed that after such a wonderful night it was ruined by the staffs lack of attention to detail, we sat down and disappeared or that is how it felt if I stay again it will be a maccy’s breakfast for me cause at least that will be hot and done in a reasonable time

It was steak and wine for £20 so went for that. My partner upgraded to the mixed grill and I had the sirloin which was really lovely but my partners steak was overdone despite asking for medium rare. The waiter was Luke and he was so lovely and helpful. Such a nice lad with a lovely smile. Another waitress was Lauren (pretty girl with blue hair).. she got us steak knives and was very helpful with getting us sauces etc. These two worked so hard tending to the tables around us on a busy night. They are an asset to you. It’s youngsters like this that you should be proud if. We will return again as had such a lovely experience on a rare child free night out. Thank you.

I recently visited the Spread Eagle and was very disappointed, as we first entered the pub we were greeted by a VERY rude and patronising man by the name of Graeme, as he was taking my order I found he seemed very rushy as if he wanted to wave me off very quickly, like I was too much hassle, I found him quite arrogant and uncomfortable to be around, his customer service leaves a lot to be desired, he could barley make eye contact with me. As I got to the carvery which I must say was very nice, props to the carvery chefs! then realised there was a offer of pigs in blankets, which we quite clearly weren’t offered up the bar by Graeme who was taking our order. Other than the poor service from him, another props to the young hard working staff who were well mannered and polite setting a good example of customer service.

The cod loin is delicious as are a whole host of other dishes. Goats cheese is unbelievable too. Drinks are also good value and an excellent choice of wines and spirits. All in all, it’s a cracking restaurant with really warm and welcoming staff. Nothing is too much trouble, even at the busiest times.
