We had a great lunchtime pint and cob in a lovely, warm traditional pub. The higgledy-piggledy nature of the building added to the charm. What was even better on a cold day was that our dog could sit inside with us. The staff were really friendly and everyone there was having a good time. Would recommend!

So sad to find the pub closed, we decided to pop over for bank holiday drinks with my elderly in laws both in their 80s who have fond memories of the pub from their younger days. I travelled here from South Wales. It was a bit of a risk because the website and Facebook pages have not been up-dated for a while. I tried to ring but the number was disconnected! When I arrived an industrial standard gate had been placed across the access road and padlocked. There were other vehicles also parked up wondering what was happening. There was no signage or, indeed, any other source of information. We decided that the owners had obviously "done a runner". I am not sure if this is true but it certainly appeared that way. I am hoping the owners will read this and realise that they need to communicate with their customers. If they don't, I would suggest you save your petrol money!

Was working in gornal and so decided to pop in. Approach is very shabby (the road) and the actual exterior could do with cleaning up. I walked in one bar was closed the other empty. No real ale on tap for a period building and with such character was a shame so I left. Hospitality is a tough business, but you need to make an effort. The place felt unclean and unloved.

I haven’t been to the crooked house since I was a teen which is quite some years ago , me and my partner planned to go today and booked to eat in the restaurant for 3:30pm I booked the table yesterday morning When we arrived at 3:15pm we walked into the restaurant the young girl said have you booked I said yes and gave my name , she looked in the book and said oh I can accommodate you , sit there or there , I said can we sit there in the comfy seats , she said no as iv got other people coming in , there was only two other tables occupied and they closed at 5pm so we were led to a table by the door which was half in the dark area , she then said I can’t give you menus yet as you are early ! So she left us 15 minutes whilst she went to chat to a younger girl behind the bar area . I had noticed on the website they done faggots mash and peas for £9.95, so we eventually ordered two soda waters and two faggots and mash meals . It took about 30 minutes to come and no other guests did ever arrive after us to sit in the other comfy seats so she told a bit of a lie there , well when the faggots come to say it was a small portion is an understatement and was in two tiny bowls . I could have ate mine twice , i went up to pay the bill and she said that’s £12.95 each for the faggots and mash and iv charged you both for soda wAters , so the bill came to just shy of £30 for two small bowls of faggots and mash and two waters , I said no it’s £9:95 as stated on your website site , she replied abruptly it went up today to £12.95 each I said that’s a £3 increase and there was not enough there for a child . She said I only work here I don’t make the prices and we need to tidy up as shutting soon , I reluctantly paid but said I won’t be eating here again to which she replied ‘OK !! Her customer skills were none existent and she had an abrupt couldn’t care less attitude and the food portions are expensive and tiny . 35 years since I last visited the crooked house and I won’t be rushing back soon !! The prices on the menu website is not what you pay . !

...the best meal you’ll (1) see, and (2) taste in Dudley - fish pie very highly recommended. Book 24 hours in advance and they’ll give you 20% discount on the specials menu ! Even without, was still there Bly £55 for 2. Okay, now the negatives - it’s highly critical but they’re nearly there anyway. The welcoming waitress took us to our table and then went back to get a wine menu. Of course, without looking at the two menus together, we were not able to give a drinks order... so off she went again for another few minutes. This time, another waitress came to take our order - probably advised that we were taking too much time to order our drinks ?!? The 2nd waitress brought the wine as follows... A bottle of wine that had been opened in another room - how do I know that I’m getting what I paid for ? It’ was a twist cap so just do it at the table. Furthermore, it didn’t come out of a chiller cabinet so, although the opened bottle was presented in an ice bucket with plenty of water and a little ice, the first two (over)filled glasses were served at only just below room temperature. I didn’t get a properly chilled glass (13 degrees) for 20 minutes. Another table, 10 minutes later, was asked for their drinks order within 30 seconds of sitting down - their menus arrived a few minutes later. I guess beer or house wine requires very little thought... probably equal to the level of their gastronomic experience. A 3rd staff member brought our starter, a baby tomato pesto salad, some of which came from their homegrown allotment- apparently very sweet and enjoyable. The fish batter was a little greasy and the fish too soft, while the chips appeared to be pre-fried and oven finished. The homegrown carrots and honey marrow were also pre-cooked and rapid finished but very enjoyable nevertheless. The marrowfat peas came as a very pleasant surprise - I always hated the tinned versions in my youth. Heinz tartare sauce, or anything close to/resembling Heinz mayonaise, is best avoided. Semi-fredo tiramisu was enjoyable, as was the traditional bread pudding and Birds custard - good size portions too. The Crooked House is at the end of a short country lane, surrounded by woods, and presents itself exactly as expected. While the walk through the bar will require an immediate adjustment on your senses, the restaurant is very nicely laid out and doesn’t create any optical illusions. They also have a relaxing sofa area if you’d prefer. Personally, I feel that the music could have been improved to something a little more refined, or chilled, or anything but Irish boy bands and radio adverts etc.

Service was nice and quick and great menu choice, from game pies to fish and chips. I chose the burger and added in cheese and bacon for an extra pound each - what’s a pound hey? I would urge you all to spend the two quid - the bacon and cheese made the burger. The meat was superb, bacon cooked perfectly and the whole combination of burger was fantastic. It came with chips which were delicious and a small salad garnish. Reasonably priced, will definitely visit again when in the area.

We were promptly seated and our food order was taken. 2 Chop house burgers & 'chophouse chips', (which we didn't get, we got fries instead with no explanation) . The burgers were topped with bacon and cheese, the bacon being half a slice of streaky and the cheese was a slice of what I can only assume was ASDA's smart price range. We paid an extra £1.50 for these delights on top of what we thought was an immensely overpriced £11.50 burger. It should've been priced around the £8 mark. The side salad consisted of 2 withered looking leaves of lettuce with a squirt of balsamic vinegar. There was absolutely no atmosphere whatever. I've seen more life in a morgue. Have a Burger King instead and avoid like the clappers. Won't be visiting again.

And told it was dripping and she whippedcitvup herself and that it had smoked salt sprinkled on it, it was hard lard with no salt flavouring to it. Quite expensive for what you have. Extra pepper sauce, and blue cheese very nice and a lot in one serving. Dined at 6pm. Overall nice quiet dining experience, ambience nice, exactly what you expect from housecoat that age, and wet week, slight smell of dampness, in bar area, just as it should be, their own brand pale ale quite nice. When living in Solihull back in the 70s I, with some friends would visit here often. In February this year, I took my youngest daughter and 2 step daughters to have a meal. They were litterly gobsmacked by the shape of the house. Since my 70s visit, they have added a restaurant and still do bar meals as well as in the restaurant. Very reasonable prices, great value for money, we chose the pheasant breast with kale, knocky and a homemade cranberry sauce. Google knocky. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful. I recommend this to anyone visiting the west midlands. It's a bit off the beaten track but I would definitely do it again. Check out its history, my daughter did and she told me more about it than I knew.

After hearing some good reports lately about food at the Crooked House, I had the opportunity to try it one Sunday. First point is positive: the house bitter is a lovely drink. But the food . . . My wife and I ordered fish and chips. We didn't get what was offered on the menu, we got cod bites, the sort of thing you would give to a child (a very small portion at that), and those awful thin French fries like those you get in McDonald's, all packed in a box clearly intended to contain Southern Fried Chicken, since that's what it said on the outside. Not good value at all. To add insult to injury, the meal was presented on what looked like a slice of a tree trunk - Gimmicky!. Presumably, when you tip it all out and add vinegar, it will run all over the side of the plank of wood and over your trousers. I have to ask the simple question: what's wrong with using a traditional round white plate? It would be much preferable and better for the washer-up, and would thus enhance hygiene.

Popped in here on passing. It’s a bit off the beaten track a bit off putting as no lights so would be extremely dark at night.

This pub is hidden away but a real asset to the community. Not only does it's quirky history and image make a trip unusual and exciting but staff, gin menu, variety of drinks and food is also a worthy treat. Cannot wait to visit again soon!

Off the main road, along a dark track unlit on a dark night, very spooky. The building was indeed crooked and had to be seen to be believed. Restaurant all dressed lovely for Christmas and it was comforting to see a few other diners in there. Food was okay, the place was quirky.

A great venue but the staff are rude, unhelpful and unwelcoming. The place was near empty we wanted lunch and for some odd reason we were told they were fully booked (90% of the tables were vacant and remained so all afternoon) we were told that we had to have "bar food" that was the most quirky menu we have ever seen, the manageress was rude and obnoxious we will not be returning.

Visited for bonfire night with family, really nice family friendly atmosphere and whilst it was busy it wasn't uncomfortably packed. With exception of the 'specialty gins' the drinks were a reasonable price and service was relatively quick too. The actual firework display was very impressive and there was a live band providing entertainment for most of the night which was enjoyable. We all had a nice night and agreed it was worth the £4 ticket price.

Perfect evening with great bonfire and fireworks really enjoyed it not packed in like sardines and not to long at a bar for a drink. Loved the leaky blinders theme to some great outfits

It’s worth a visit just for the quirky setting as a one off. It was absolutely dead for a Friday night with a total of 6 people in the whole place. The bizarre thing was, we were told that we might lose our table if the others in our party weren’t on time!!! And it wasn’t a joke! The food was very average and one of the steaks was the worse I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it was the cooking, just the quality of the meat. The staff were good though and the fish and chips was awesome. It’s a really wacky, one of a kind place but I don’t think is worth the money food wise and I couldn’t really recommend it. The place could be amazing with a bit of effort as it has the wow factor building wise but the food just doesn’t hit the mark.

Must be the worst place I have been never used to be in the past visited to show other members of my family yes the building is good and my granddaughter loved seeing the marble go uphill but that is where it ends ordered food was told went to sit down and was told couldn’t sit there even though we had paid asked for money back was told no food was ready when we ordered we was told 15-20 minutes and it was bearly two minutes we had the food if that’s what you call it none of us eat it worst food ever. Staff so rude and not interested spoke to manager after speaking to her can understand the staffs attitude.

Quiet Friday afternoon saw us go to lunch at this very delightful pub, with a warm well from the staff that we met, our lunch (fish & chips)was freshly cooked , was so good, the were big & crisp the fish was cooked to perfection with batter bits ( remember them from my childhood) staff were very helpful showing us how a ball rolls up a table as well as a brief history of the pub, if you plan on making the journey to this great pub trust the day nav or googl e map, yes you will think you are going the wrong way when it takes you along a track, but stay with it, it is the right way.

We arrived on a lunchtime, and wanted to eat, picking the special of the day, only to be informed, that we could only have it, if we had already booked it. In the end because we were hungry, we opted for a sandwich, it was okay, but nothing special. We were not made to feel welcome, in fact it appeared to be we were somewhat of a nuisance.

We went here for birthday celebrations. Looked at the menu online which looked good however upon arrival very disappointed as menu was very different so much so non of the 3 potential main dishes I had in mind were on it but were on online menu. The staff could only say "Oh it does say menu subject to change" no where did I read that nor others in the party.

Took elderly relatives for a lunch time treat. Most unfriendly and unwelcome reception ever. People in front turned away, pub open but restaurant not for 5 mins. Not allowed to sit at a table in restaurant, order a drink and peruse menu. Sent to the bar and told there were two others booked who would take priority. Our turn to request a table, rather rudely enquired if we had heard what other customers were told. So we left.

New to England... drive to The Crooked House and realised the restaurant / bar boarders on a rubbish tip. The place itself looked pretty cool from the outside. But the refuse adjoining the area totally takes away any amenity value this place might once have had.

Been to the crooked house many times , always like to take any visitors we have , who don’t cone from these parts of the world ,it’s an amazing building , it has to be seen , very strange feeling when you walk in the place , not recommended to go if it’s raining as the road leading to it gets flooded and very uneven , but definitely a must on a nice dry day , eat in the restaurant once , excellent food but not cheap, Bar meals are also very good

Quite a well known pub in the area, so decided to pay it a visit having not been in years. Took a while to get served, probably arrived at the wrong time. Ordered a pint of Bank's Mild, normally a sure fire bet, however on this occasion it was poorly kept and warm, I returned it and changed for their self named bitter which was not much better. The place itself is quaint and the kids will love it. Though I am suprised as to why they didn't try and replicate the theme of the crooked nature of the building to restaurant extention? No doubt something to do with Health and Safety.....pretty dissapointing really, as it's quite near to Himley Hall which we visit often.

Saturday 8th July. Had planned a trip especially from north wales. Always been on my bucket list. Checked website and Facebook page. Sorry to hear about the break in. Information stated should be open again 6th or 7th July. Tried to phone before visit to check if open. No answer. Should've been open 8th but no updates or information. Arrived at 12:15. Five cars parked by locked gate. Nobody knew What was happening. Walked down the lane. Fantastic house. Unfortunatly we had a wasted trip. Blackboard outside 'closed until further notice' people arriving after us who we informed they were closed. Had we known we wouldn't have wasted a journey.

Popped for lunch after dog walking. A good selection of choices on the menu and a lovely atmosphere in this canalside pub. Dogs are welcome - there's a couple of dog-free areas as well - and this makes a good spot for refreshments (or more) after walking along the canal towpath. We'll definitely be back!

Love this restaurant. Use it for personal as well as business and it’s always superb. The daytime/Prixe Fixe is such good value during daytimes and what I love is they are not small portions! The cod loin is delicious as are a whole host of other dishes. Goats cheese is unbelievable too. Drinks are also good value and an excellent choice of wines and spirits. All in all, it’s a cracking restaurant with really warm and welcoming staff. Nothing is too much trouble, even at the busiest times. Special mention to Tonya as she is excellent and very friendly & warm. A real credit to you. Keep on doing what you’re doing, well done guys & thank you.
