The Sports Bar at Old Thorns in East Hampshire

We wanted something relatively easy, sandwich/burger etc. We struggled to find a menu, we were the only table in the place and no-one checked to see if we had one. The choice was very limited and the prices were quite frankly shocking, £20 for a sandwich, chips and drink. I can't offer comment as to whether it was worth the money as we left without ordering.

As we couldn't get a decent menu of food in the restaurant we were diverted to the Sports Bar. The menu was good, the husband and I had steak and chips. Very nice and a well cooked steak!

Very relaxing both inside and out, offering a huge variety of drinks and snacks, and meals terrace overlooking driving range. Very pleasant afternoon spent with friends in the sunny terrace

We ordered a take- away of burger and chips. It was cold and of poor quality. Do not recommend. Not masses of choice either.

Main restaurant closed due to Covid and staff seemed to be struggling with customer volumes. Beetroot humus starter yummy but sloppily presented. Risotto rice rather overcooked but again tasty. My daughter loved her burger meal. Plates sadly cold so had to rush more than we'd have liked. Staff so stressed not even serving arrivees in order when we queued for ages. So attention to detail needs work...

Ordered the vegan moving mountain burger .. vegan pulled pork style burger with skinny fries & vegan slaw.I am not a vegan but I enjoy vegetarian food & the menu made this sound good.What I got was the least appetising patty I have ever seen.I told management I would like to swap my meal as it had not come as described on the menu and looked entirely unappealing. Only to be told I would have to pay for both meals! £12.95 for possibly the worst meal I’ve had.Before you look at my photo, picture your idea of pulled pork.. even made vegan, I expected at least some sort of shredded vegetables. Nothin mountainous about it. Do not recommend. Will not be returning.

Good size TV veiwable from nearly every seat. Show all kinds of live sport. Good food at reasonable prices.

This place is large. Lots of TVs showing different sporting events some with the volume pretty high.There are a few settees, but most of the seating is at wooden tables. Two pool tables at the far end (£2 per game). We came here for a couple of drinks before eating in the carvery, so I can't pass judgement on the food. The place felt a bit soulless.

Firstly the waiter wondered off half way through taking my order to chat to a different waiter and then have a conversation down the walkie talkies. The food arrived cold and with the wrong sides. I sent it back and it returned warm but again with the wrong sides.Arrived half way through the meal to inform us that they didn’t have my partners desert and asked us to walk up to the bar to get the refund in the middle of us eating. When we went to reception to ask if the restaurant was part of the hotel or seperate (a deciding factor on the hotel review) we were informed it was. I spoke to the restaurant manager who pressured me to name and shame the waiters (which made me uncomfortable). The worst part is that we had a free meal available in the other restaurant (kings) but decided to go there for something different and spend money at the hotel as we were enjoying our visit so much. Should have taken the free meal as when I asked for a refund he gave some rubbish about food mark up cost? I didn’t eat most of my food as it wasn’t what I ordered in the first place.I hope this review loses him more money then giving me a refund would have. An absolute joke.

We stayed for a week in private suite and the sports bar was a frequent haunt for us. The food is good but we enjoyed real ale and Then watched the football

We came for lunch while waiting for our apartment to be ready to move into. All in all it was fine, but there was only one girl serving in the bar which meant at times you had to wait quite a while to be served. The food took absolutely ages to arrive, but when it did it was fine. Note that the Caesar sallad does not have any chicken in it - it is literally just salad. Very good portions though.

Bit of a barn to eat and drink in, as a sports bar I guess it does what it says on the tin, wine expensive, beer ok, food fairly so so with good ribs but soggy, coldish chips. Not a great experience!

Visited with a client for lunch, bar was fairly quiet and service was quick I ordered the tuna Niçoise salad and was great. Portion was huge possibly a little too big and I couldn’t finish. More importantly the taste was really good, tuna and salad leaves tasted really fresh.This place is off the beaten track and I don’t live nearby so I am unlikely to visit again although if by chance I was in the area I would certainly come back.

Great food in the sports bar. Huge rack of ribs and Old Thorns burgers are main courses for really hungry people. Very good and the ham eggs and chips are excellent. Can really recommend.

I just been served by most friendly helpful bar lady Jemmima so refreshing to have a smiling face and a nothing too much trouble attitude . A real credit to this hotel. Thank you Jemima

Eat at this venue whilst staying at the hotel, nice menu similar to a typical chain with burgers, salads , etc ,.... food was served quickly and was of good quality and very tasty...

Love this bar, the sporting memorabilia and the decor on the walls is fantastic. Staff are really friendly and the food is great.

A barn of a room with poor service and a poor range of offerings. There was no bitter on one of the days we werte there and the food was poor.

We came here a week ago to find a minimal menu and were told a new menu was launching this week hence they were running down stock. We accepted this and the poor quality food that followed. However, the anticipated ‘new menu is virtually identical to the old menu except everything is a pound more! The salmon was over cooked and,therefore dry as a cork. The burger was disgusting. It hung limply sandwiched between two halves of a huge, stale dry bun with only a lettuce leaf to garnish it. weirdly, if you want mayo then you have to ask for it as it isn’t readily available like the other sauces. I’d avoid eating here unless you want to compromise to watch the footy. Be aware though that on big game nights a very minimal menu is offered. Bad show ‘Old Thorns’

A lovely lunch in the Sports Bar today! Really nice & a huge pot of tea too....Relaxing & comfortable. Bar & waiting staff very accomodating & friendly. Looking 4ward to the Sunday Roast next time....

The sports bar is a very spacious bar with has many tv screens to watch the football matches. The lighting and furniture are just so for a comfy bar. The chill con or the fish and chips were very good. The big cod fish was covered in crunchy golden batter and inside the batter was a very tasty white thick fish meat. The fish was served with lovely freshly made chips, white fish sauce and peas. The whole fish was very yummy. If you like chill con then you will not be disappointed. Of course, you must wash it down with a cold pint of larger. We cannot wait to visit again.

Plenty of Tvs to watch sports , good bar with fast food type menu friendly staff ,if you’ve been to sports bars before you know what you get , we enjoyed it there

A big bar but just lacks something. No atmosphere. Takes ages to get a drink even when quiet. The staff behind the bar seem as if they would rather be anywhere else and find it hard to crack a smile. The beer and spirits are not badly priced.

Nice pint of Guinness left for correct time and friend had a Stella. Bar staff not very engaging and more interested in a discussion with their colleague than serving customers. Nice and clean but for the price you’d hope for more personality but I’d imagine it wouldn’t be a place to go to for watching a big game as staff do seem someone “one paved”

The space, tables and wood surrounds are good but it's a very noisy, souless bar. Not sure what needs to be done to give it a bit of intimacy. Yes there is the other bar, but that doesn't open till 7pm.

My observation when I visited this venue and used the Sports Bar was although at times busy, you could still tuck yourself away somewhere quiet and read a book with a good glass of wine or enjoy the sport that was on. If you are a sport lover, and sit and have a snack with friends or family. A well balanced venue for all with varied areas for recreation and relaxation. Good food at a reasonable price for Hotel rates, served with enthusiasm. If you want peace and quiet, there are plenty of places at "Old Thorns" to do just that too. Will be returning soon there.

Nice views over the golf course. Has a couple of pool tables, Gins not as good as the other bar but fine.

Loads of Tvs so you can view from every aspect of the huge bar. Standard bar food and the beer is ok, would've been nice to see some craft beers.

This is within the old thorns hotel. It is spacious and has some outdoor space. The service was good and a very nice bar to relax. They also do food but we didn't try this.

We came to the Sports Bar to watch football Sunday afternoon before having a meal in the evening. It's got loads of screens to watch sport on and has a bar, food is ok we had a sharing Nachos (large) which is massive and sweet potato fries. All in all it's a sports bar...

Massive bar with one person serving just isn't good enough. the food was over priced and not very good. I had a fish finger sandwich were i had to put my glasses on to see the two fish fingers. so really was more two slices of toast.

Business stopover, so ordered a burger and pint at the bar. Other people's food came and went, and at last mine turned up. No guesses where it has been - coleslaw bowl was hot and the top of the coleslaw toasted, so it had obviously been sitting under lights for 10-15 minutes. I complained and it was replaced, but I had jumped the gun and should have tasted everything first - the burger was incredibly dry, and you could have played frisbee with the fried egg.

Food okay, room has loads of screens such a shame for a sports bar the screens don't show various sports running at the same time. Why not show golf on a couple while showing football and cricket or whatever is being screened on various channels

Had a bacon butty prior to golf. Bacon was a bit cold. Bar was full of TV's and very well appointed. Good service and beverages etc as expected.

Very bold very well lit. Food good , beer good (both food and drinks expensive) Lots of tvs so great for sports watching. We had a mixed service from staff some attentive - others clueless.

Ate lunch here twice during our recent stay at Old Thorns Golf & Hotel and difficult to find anything to complain about. The service at the bar was quick and friendly as was the delivery of the food. On both days I had the ham mustard mayo sandwich on brown bread and both times it was good. Rocommended

A bite to eat after golf including a turkey stuffing & cranberry wrap and a beef and horseradish wrap brought quickly and well presented. They were unfortunately very average and had the appearance of having been pre-prepared which is a shame because they promised much. Nicely presented though and brought quickly which was good. Adequate only but there were other things on the menu which I am sure would have been nicer and u would eat there again but select more carefully.

Awful food extremely slow services and it wasn’t even that busy will definitely not be eating here again EVER

This is an amazing hotel and the only thing that lets it down is the sports bar food. Typical bar food but the menu hasn't changed for years. For a regular guest, this only acts as a reason to eat elsewhere. Shame because the venue is great. They could do with adding something to dampen the noise because when its busy the sound just echos and you can't hear yourself think.

Loads of screens, quite a few displays from sports and movies. Decent service, not a great choice of beer, very few strong beers. It was OK, but I would not go out of my way to come here again.

This is a quirky bar with some very large transformer type robots! Anyway if you like sports there are plenty of screens to watch. Not really my thing - but it was just somewhere to meet up with friends :-)

Went here for lunch while staying at the hotel, choice was fairly good and a nice selection of drinks on offer. Staff were friendly and polite and food tasted fresh which was also well presented.

Been here a few times, can be quite noisy with gatherings away from the bar and stangely quieter at the tables nearer the bar.

Fue servido con un viejo secos de col. Las patatas fritas eran decentes, pero por 14 libras que esperaba de mejor calidad y una "casa" que esta claramente burger no era.

Visité el viejo hotel de negocios y las espinas eligió el bar de deportes para tener mi cena.

Disfrutamos de unas copas después de una ronda de golf. Bar agradable y espacioso. Vale la pena ir para disfrutar de un día de golf y bebidas o un fin de semana de golf y relajación

Huge sandwich with crisps and salad garnish. Very fresh bread. It would satisfy even the largest appetite.

Nearly perfect.. need to move with the times with regards to healthier food and drink choices sports bar needs to be a sports bar or not a sports bar can't pick and choose whether or not they showing boxing after being told that they will be only to be told we are now not showing yet you're a sports bar maybe you should close the bar and turn it into a different bar...

Had lunch in here whilst waiting for our hotel room to be ready. The menu was good with reasonable prices. We chose burgers & really enjoyed them. Ample room and tables, good service.

Once again see my review The Old Thorns as this is in the hotel building. Great pub grub, great service, great portions and good value for money.

Food is awful mass produced microwave rubbish. WiFi is poor. The draught beer is always flat. I am a regular dissapointed customer.

Great atmosphere and variety of food - quick and good service. What's even better is that we can visit the restaurant in our towelling robes rather than have to get dressed each time. Certainly adds to the completion relaxation and enjoyment of our visit!

Had to do some business and meet some old friends, was very impressed with atmosphere, staff were great and really enjoyed my visit. Would highly recommend it.

It's another bar in the hotel. We went for a wedding for 2 nights. This is the bar we all met in and had some food, the curry's are not recommended as not hot in taste and the chips have potatoe skins left on.

Quick service, fantastic fries, chilli chicken pitta lovely. Can get noisy since a sports bar, but there's always the terrace outside.

We was on our spa day when went in here for a sandwich. The prices are reasonable and the sandwiches were a bit dry but it was a very hot day. All the staff were nice and friendly.

Attended a day meeting at the Old Thorns and got lunch in the Sports Bar. As you would expect, it has the ambiance of a sports bar, which is a little strange for a sober, working lunch. The menu offered a good number of options and was surprisingly well priced. The bar area was busy serving guests from a wedding but we didn't have long to wait once food was actually ordered, I really enjoyed the steak sandwich and would order again.

Had many visits here and enjoyed every one of them. Staff very helpful and willing to please.food is great as part of an evening out or just pop in and have a snack.

We didn't actually eat in there - too noisy, but we stayed at the Hotel as we were attending a wedding. The menu looked pretty average, but then again we wasn't expecting a la carte for a sports bar. Staff were very friendly and helpful and what we saw of the food being served - the portions sizes were good

We just had drinks here after our golf but judging from the menu, they offer a wide variety of usual pub food at average prices. Fish and chips look good for around £10. Curries, sandwiches are also available. It seems fairly popular and the dishes look appetizing enough.

It's a massive bar within the hotel. Great setting super TVs showing the football when I was there. Food looked good. Prices high though but as expected for such a place. Great outdoor terrace.

Had a family meal and good choice on menu! The bar was busy as there was two wedding receptions going on in different function rooms so there was no noise etc! There was a mix up with our bill and not very helpful with sorting out but eventually all was ok!

Pleasant surroundings sky sports on telly. Good snack menu. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced drinks. Nice outside sitting area.clean and tidy throughout.

Food not great in the sports bar the burger was dry and very badly over cooked. Also the bar was extremely noisy and only a few people in, hate to think what it would be like if it was busy.

My best man and I came in for a drink and a few games of pool.Lovely looking place but very disappointed that they were American pool tables and £2 a game!We were a bit confused about why as there is classic pool memorabilia around this area of the bar.The drinks were also very overpriced.

Well this place was a nice surprise for a few guys just looking for a relaxing pint and a fun place to have it Big big place lots of Staff, lots of big screen TVs and some interesting memorabilia and the food I had a home made burger fantastic it was tooThe guys who serve and clean tables ETC what a job you guys do and up and down them stairs hats off to you Good Bar guys Dr Steel

Great fun if you dont want a formal dinner - alcohol served, games and tv in here - must less formal than Champagne bar

Sports bar serves good reasonably priced food but some of the portions can be a bit on the small side, I suspect this is to keep costs down however the food is good and the the service very pleasant.

Enjoyed a couple of pints, the sport and a good meal. Was just what the doctor ordered after a long day of travelling.

Sat at in the Starbucks bar area for a meeting when my colleague went to the 'Sport Bar' to get 2 'croque monsieur' for our quick snack break... their were excellent but apparently a bit on the expensive side for what their were with no crudities around the plate !!!... I cannot complain about it because that was offer gracefully to me by my colleague....

Visited whilst staying in the old thorns hotel. Food was ok, much like that of a weatherspoon pub. Atmosphere is relaxed with pool tables and plenty of tv's to watch sports. Overall good but not to the 4 star quality of the hotel.

Fantastic food and great service, just turn off of the Longmoor road and keep going to the end of the private road until you get to the Old Thorns Golf Club. They are opening a 16th century pub soon, very exciting!

The sports bar is located within the centre of the Old Thorn Spa and Hotel complex. It has plenty of space and seating for lots of customers - which also has many large screen TVs on which they show several sports channels at the same time - giving a choice of events to keep tabs on.There is a wide range of beers and wines on offer - with some local beers on offer as well.

We visited for lunch and the food was great. Service was quick, friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed an enjoyable. Food wasn't cheap but worth it, the beef in the burgers was high quality and the chips were fresh and crispy.

I had curry on the first night of my stay and it was ok. It was processed and on par with wether spoons curry night affair. But it was hot and tasted ok.Burger on second night for £13 was poor. Two cheap frozen burgers, dry seeded bun and not that great. When you think of the gourmet burgers in brioche buns you get for £5 now in London this is poor effort, the chef should be ashamed.

Fantastic sports memorabilia, including rare signed photos and shirts etc......but this hasn't translated into a sports bar with atmosphere.The food and the service are very ordinary compared to that of the owning hotel.They serve a limited selection of real ale - but for a sports bar I guess any real ale is to be commended!Worth a visit when big game is on but could do better

Nice setting, a bit cheaper than the main restaurant, but not a lot, still, nice food and the wine was good also.

Lovely decor, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The prices are competitive to other places and not too bad considering it is a hotel. Food was lovely and reasonably priced.

Extensive bar menu which seems good value. Food was well presented and tasty. Lots of wide screen TV's if you want to watch sport while you eat. I didn't but that wasn't a problem

I felt that their bar was trying to be something and it was just wide of the mark. My food was nothing special and the service was average.

Probably not untypical of hotel bars. Yes, it has a clear sports theme with TVs all around showing Sky Sports, the food is OK if you don't want to use the more formal Dining Room and the generally young and inexperienced staff do their best, but it lacks real atmosphere. In summary, it's OK - but nothing more

The overall atmosphere is great, there is a lot going on there, weddings, gold and parties! Staff are very friendly and they use Glass-safe so they really look after their customers and staff!

Great sports bar with plenty of choices of beer. Not cheap mind. Can get loud. All the tv sport you can wish for !

Fatty lamb, poor doggy roast potatoes and hard pastry in dessert. Needs a chef to go with the buildings. Disappointing - will not hurry back I'm afraid.

This is a very good meeting point in the hotel and has great food at a reasonable price for a hotel restaurant. It gets very busy and loud but that's what you expect from a sports bar.

We had a girlie weekend at the hotel and a large group of 9 of us went into the Sports Bar for food/drink. 8 of us went to the bar and there was only one barmaird serving (which was silly as it was quite busy). She acknowledged us but then when a new group came up to the bar she just started serving them?! We did say that we were next but she proceeded to serve everyone that came after us, just leaving us standing there. We left in the end as she didn't serve us at all ..... which defeats the purpose of a restaurant/bar. My top advice for this place is to not actually go if you want to eat or drink as if the barmaid doesn't want to serve you, she wont! I would say, we weren't drunk or rowdy; it was 2pm in the afternoon and we'd just spent the morning in the spa.

Went for lunch on the first Friday in January. Place was empty. Club sandwiches perfectly acceptable for price paid. Service ok but dirty plates did remain on table for ages. The stench of drains was shocking ! Clearly a problem that needs sorting. Told the female bar supervisor who duly opened the door which caused such a draft it had to be closed shortly after. Smell never abated so we skipped desert and had it elsewhere.

The Sports bar at this hotel is really nice, very modern, bright, and comfortable.The food was very good, I had a club sandwich and my partner had a burger, both meals were hot and very tasty.I would visit again.

Excellent service - with very pleasant staff.Arranged an ice bucket for us with champagne to share with friends in our room as celebrating a birthday with birthday cake.Good cocktails when we returned to the bar. Good atmosphere and all the sports channels.
