Cloisters Cafe in East Hampshire

Revolting food we gad to wait 45 minutes for. Order was wrong, was sent back to the kitchen with a backdrop of loud swearing from the ‘’chef’’ for his mistake. Waited for another 15 mins for an undercooked jacket potato, no apology no nothing. Once ready ‘chef’ loudly announced here is a jacket potato with no butter in a mocking voice… on leaving I was clearly charged for 2 jacket potatoes and the burnt panini but felt the lady behind the counter who did the maths in her head, was too passive aggressive for me to challenge. Safe to say we wont be going back.

Infrequent visitor to Petersfield but have found this cafe to be pretty good in the past. However, on my latest visit it was most disappointing. Coffee wasn't great & served with a puddle in the saucer. Notwithstanding a mid afternoon visit there was a distinct lack of choice of pastries. The many servers seemed to struggle with where the orders were heading. We were offered 2 other drinks & food and at the same time saw our order go to another table. Shame really because it wasn't exceptionally busy.

I absolutely love Cloisters, I’ve been coming here since I was 2 originally with my mum and dad but after a while it was just me and my dad, we are good friends with the chef, the service is amazing and the food is so good. I definitely recommend! - Sofia Ayles

Probably the worst breakfast I've ever had. The scrambled egg was white and tasteless. The bubble and squeak was wet and soft. Never again

I went here a few years back and it was great. But no more. I found two huge human hairs in my chilli with no apology or concern for hygiene from the waitress, and was accompanied by the backdrop of staff swearing their heads off. The food was really bad and low quality. Never again.

Enjoyed the lovely food. Good position in sq with relaxed views. It was one of the best cappuccinos I had for a very long time.

Excellent breakfast BAP. Staff always welcome us, even with our crash helmets!

Great little cafe in the heart of Petersfield. They do full cooked breakfasts, bacon butties, etc. till 11.30 am, then sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, soup, burger, etc. from 12 pm. Usual selection of hot and cold drinks, including milkshakes and even beer and wine! There are about 25 seats inside and similar outside where you can watch the world of Petersfield go by...

We ordered the Vegetarian Breakfast which was cooked to order, plentiful and delicious and the breakfast bap and sausage sandwich which both contained quality ingredients and were cooked fresh to order too. We can’t fault the Chef or staff here as they are always polite and very efficient.

Nice location in the corner of the central square so lots to see. Stopped off on one our walks for a huge bacon sandwich with fresh springy bread and hot mugs of tea. There were 10 of us. The lady quickly brought the tables together for us to sit together. She could not have been more helpful.

We stopped at Petersfield for a bite to eat around 1.55, went to The Cloisters and I asked for a menu, member of staff was so rude and said what do you want a menu for we are not doing hot food now, I was very taken aback and explained to my partner what had been said so we asked if they were doing sandwiches we were very sharply told drinks and cakes only, not what was said but HOW it was said, member of staff very rude. Had lunch at a Lovett place across the road with pink chairs, staff and food amazing, our advice avoid The Cloisters.

Best breakfast ever , great place to sit and watch world go by , staff friendly and so is the owner/chef , highly recommended.

Visited July 10th 2022 on our way to the lavender fields. The staff said they were not making any lunches. We never did find out why so had to settle for teacake and a scone.

No food being served when we arrived at 2pm for lunch.

Poor service,The staffs were so slow in the morning and they didn’t feel like to work, after waiting more than 30 minutes, I had to go without breakfast!

Sadly, having visited this cafe before, we can only say that it is not what it used to be in terms of customer service. It seems to have lost some of it's atmosphere during the last few months. We got there just before breakfast should have still been available and was told it had stopped earlier and no meals before 12. So we left to a more welcoming cafe round the corner where we had an excellent value for money meal.

I visited this cafe today with a friend. We haven’t been to Petersfield before so popped into the first cafe we came across. As we were walking inside, a man was telling one of the young girls working there that there were some tables outside that were dirty so she needed to go and clean them, but the way he spoke to her was so rude and disgusting. We were then served and the girls were lovely. We sat down and a few minutes later the man came and sat down with some women on a table next to us. They spent the whole 30 minutes we were there talking about his staff, saying things like ‘this is the problem with young girls who have nothing in their heads’ and saying how ‘stupid’ they were and how much they lacked any initiative. To speak about your staff in such a way is so awful but to do it in front of customers was even worse. The manager/owner is a bully and I am disgusted with the way the staff were treated by him.

We tried to have lunch in this cafe today, about 1.30pm, I asked the waitress if we could sit outside, with that she said “yes”, I then went inside to ask for a menu, to which, I think ! She Was about to say they were not serving food any longer, but wanted to check first, not that she had chance, because the chef was shouting at her demanding her to take food out, he was so rude to her, and she looked quite embarrassed. Very disappointed that one they were not serving food at this time, and that the male chef would treat a young employee this way. Shame because it was in a lovely location and the last food served that day looked good.

Delicious freshly prepared food, and very good value. Great location. Friendly. Definitely recommend.

I wanted an alternative to chain coffee shops (I’m new to the area). Approached this shop, was unsure if open as looked closed, door was closed and dark inside. Tried the door and found it was open - told the lady behind the counter it looks shut - she didn’t comment. Had coffee and fruit cake outdoors (both okay!). Several people approached and then left saying ‘oh, they’re shut’. 2 couples questioned if they were shut or not, tried the door and then bought something. A group of 4 then sat down outside, a waitress came out and said we’ve closed as we aren’t busy enough to stay open, so they left. I pointed out to her that people think you are closed and are leaving as the door is shut and it’s dark inside. She replied ‘no, it’s not, the lights are on’. Then a second group of 4 arrived and got turned away, and then another couple, then a single lady… in the time I was writing this review. How on earth are they making money?

Delicious food and excellent service.

Food was delicious. A few little hiccups but nothing major. Wait was long for service and got a drinks order wrong but only human. People were lovely and was a great breakfast. Menu limited to times.

Food was lovely, the halloumi had a lovely creamy flavour, and the coleslaw was some of the nicest I've ever had. We also had the jacket potato with chilli con carne, which was really nicely spiced. The potato was really soft and fluffy. Menu is small and prices are about average for the area. Portions are a nice size. This is our second visit, neither time had disappointed and well be recommending to friends.

The jacket potatoes were lovely. Good value for money. Freshly made. Well done Just one let down. Staff needs more " I want to be there " attitude.

This looked appealing quiet, so I chose it in preference to the noisy-looking alternatives nearby. There was a warm welcome and excellent, friendly service. The coffee was great and the baked items looked so tempting I opted for a croissant, which was delicious. The cafe has a very pleasant atmosphere and is conveniently located in the heart of the town.

Came here for a breakfast . I had a vegetarian breakfast 😋. Absolutely delicious. The best vegetarian breakfast I have ever had. You must come and try the food for yourself. They also do sandwiches, lunches, cakes, and drinks. Breakfast was £9.00. Plenty of room, we're served quickly and didn't have to wait long. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely come back again.

The BEST cafe in Petersfield. Great food, fantastic staff, lovely atmosphere. So much to recommend about Cloisters. Don't go anywhere else if you are looking for good food and a great experience.

Typically a lovely place to go on a summers afternoon for a coffee break, with some great motorbike parking nearby. Last time I went I paid full price for the most stale doughnut I've ever eaten though.

I like Cloisters for what it is. A nice little Cafe in a good position right at the edge of the square. The small kitchen copes admirably well and serves tasty food. It's a popular spot and rightly so. But Jorge, surely it is time for the Loo to have a bit of a refresh? This is the one area that consistently lets Cloisters down for me. OK nothing to do with the food, or the ambience, or the friendly service but the state of the loo is something that distracts from your lovely little establishment. Just saying!

Not keen on dogs inside, otherwise great.

A little bit more magic in the heart of Petersfield. Located in the Square, and beside St Peters church, Cloisters provides consistently high standards of delicious food at affordable prices. George and his team deliver a service of friendly, personable warmth and are very accommodating to needs. Many beat a regular path to Cloisters continental cafe for its friendly and exceptional levels of service.

Quite frankly there are too many coffee shops in Petersfield but this is my favourite for a number of reasons. The coffee is the best in town and I love their breakfasts too. It's pretty small though and can get crowded so get there early! Highly reccommended.

Super little independent café in the square. I think it's family run and has a lovely atmosphere. Quite full when we got there late morning for a delicious cappuccino and cinnamon bun. The full English breakfast looked amazing!

Just had an amazing breakfast at Cloisters. It was cooked to perfection. Had to wait a little while for it but didn’t mind that. Staff were lovely. Well worth a visit. We travelled from Basingstoke and it was worth the drive.

I was really impressed by this little restaurant; the food was unexpectedly good, and the service friendly, informal and swift.

Our burgers were great but I suspect I'd have been happy with everything they were serving up as it all looked good.

As ever at Cloisters the service is ever so slightly on the slow side and there were quite a few items not available today, however service was friendly and the food was very nice.

We had been to this place pre COVID and it was great. However things have changed a lot since then. We arrived to two waitresses sat at a table chatting. They looked at us but just carried on. Another eventually came over and sat us at a table. 10 mins later we were asked what we wanted to order, we hadn’t been given menus. We watched as two other couples came and went due to the poor service. When our food arrived it was actually very good. However, the service was so poor that we will not be going back.

The staff were not organised. Didn't have a clue where food was meNt to go .brought wrong food to us .I had cloisters breakfast .the sausages were hot and tasty .the beans were ok ..bacon was bitter mushrooms bland .I asked for soft yolk poached eggs they came out hard yolk .. I didn't eat much of the breakfast it was off putting ..when I went to pay they asked where I was sitting inside ..but still got my bill wrong ..I won't be rushing back in a hurry .. and as I was waiting for my food I heard them say twice ..take no more food orders ...obviously can't handle it .. don't deserve to have that business ..on the positive side milk shakes were very nice

Loved it, quaint little village setting, very popular with locals, very good quality food, all freshly made.

What a shame, lovely location but completely disinterested staff more interested in their friends, vaping whilst working, moaning, plastic cups, tired washroom, shut early (fair enough) but customers were definitely a pain and in the way. Nah won't bother again thanks.

Avoid if you have allergies. Staff didn’t have information about a key allergen (soya) and the waitress suggested our best option was to go to a different cafe down the road.

Nice little café, very good food and efficient pleasant staff to whom your satisfaction is highly important. Nice surroundings both inside and out. Highly recommended. Fair value as well.

Ordered lunch at 11.50 quite happy to wait as lunch didn't start until 12. The chef guy with black hair was so rude to the young girl that we ordered with and really shouted at her. I called the young lady over and said it was no problem and we were very prepared to wait but I told the chef he should not be shouting at his staff like this and we had an argument about it and I apologised to the young girl for getting her into trouble. It's a very nice cafe with lovely waiting staff but he doesn't deserve to be running staff with his horrible bullying and shouting. I wouldn't want my son or daughter working there. We left without lunch funnily enough and i hope the young lady wasn't too upset.

Restaurant advertises breakfast service until 11:30 am. However, at 10.30 they informed us that there was no breakfast service. Despite taking orders for my children at 10.20. If you want to have breakfast go find another location.

A popular and cheery venue, with some attempt at style in the decor. A little cramped in the winter during the time of COVID. However plenty of outdoor seating during warmer weather. The staff were efficient and very pleasant. Menu narrow as to expected, well presented and adequate food.

I have had tea/coffe and cake here a few times and all good. However today I thought I would treat myself to lunch. A goats cheese and beetroot panini. I waited for at least twenty minutes and when it finally arrived it was a toasted sandwich and not a panini. I pointed this out to the very nice waitress and as I was in a bit of a rush, decided to shut up and eat it. I couldn’t believe it…when I took a bite it was just beetroot and no cheese. I was told that he was talking a lot and forgot to put the cheese in. Anyway, it was sent back and, well I thought I’d be given a fresh one preferably the panini that I ordered in the first place but no, the same sandwich with a bite taken out of it but with bit of melted cheese inside it was brought back…no apology that was it. Is it me or what! To be fair they did knock a couple of quid off the bill but I won’t be spending precious money in there anymore unless all of these establishments realise this. Everything is going up and customers expect a pleasant experience when they spend their hard earned money in your pubs/cafes/restaurants etc.

Love this place. I waited for a while to give a review and they really deserve one. The restaurant's leader and head chef, G*****, is so welcoming and seems to take a lot of pride in his work, whilst also ensuring that same standard of high-expectations is also reflected by his team. He and his team make great food, and serve it quickly in a warm and friendly environment. He's really impressed me with his kind actions to make every visit great. If you're looking for a place that cares about their customers and even knows many of their names, this is one of those places. Thanks again!

The chef in this establishment a man with black hair was being obscene to the young lady working here. The place stank of burnt food. The coffee was nothing special. This Chef should appreciate his staff and understand how hard it is to recruit good staff. The lady loomed close to tears and their was an awful atmosphere inside. Cold coffee, stale pastry. Waitress more interested in her phone than customers. No one serving or making food was wearing masks or any other PP gear. I left after I saw that the tables were not sanitized/cleaned between guests. Avoid!

Small, quaint cafe in a lovely spot.
