Two words “truly amazing” Stayed just up road and walking past on arrival into Lynton the food aroma was inviting. Second day we called in couldn’t resist. The Service was super friendly like talking to an old friend. You don’t get massive choice but each week a selection of amazing dishes which is a benefit rather than a negative. Most places offer wider options but this can affect quality, Spicy Mare offers a small selection that works well together ultimately improving the quality and experience. You will not be disappointed

This is a great takeaway...we were walking past, wondering what to eat when we were lured in by the great smell of food coming from it. The service was great, the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We took the food back to the hotel as she had advised us that the hotel would lend us some plates and cutlery. Highly recommended.

Great place to pick up a takeaway or a meal to have later on. Great selection, and obvious the food is ‘home made’ Friendly helpful service - what’s not to like?

Really good meal. We visit Lynton a couple of times a year and this is the first time we’ve had food from The Spicy Mare - clearly we have been missing a trick! Thoroughly recommended - thank you!

The Spicy Mare offers a very unique service. This is not your average takeaway. Ilona takes great care and pride in what she does and takes the time to discover what your likes and dislikes are. We had Fish, potato and coriander tagine and chicken thigh olives and lemon tagine, both moroccan. Both exceptional. Wish we lived a bit nearer. Thank you.

Ilona catered for our family wedding celebration, the most delicious menu to cater for our vegan, vegetarian and meat eating gathering - absolutely gorgeous lamb curry, alongside an equally tasty vegan curry and dahl, mango chutney, raita, kachumber, naan and poppadoms, followed by scrummy vegan sweet treats From start to finish Ilona was so enthusiastic and helpful, making it so easy for us, cooking and delivering us food that looked and tasted great, and that everyone so enjoyed. We were too early for the daily take away (5pm) so opted for two dishes from the fridge which after reheating they were so aromatic and tasted authentic Indian flavours. If in Lynton again will wait and get the fresh choice and eat it in one of the local parks.

We were tempted in by the fragrance of the spices drifting out into the street, and the flavours lived up to that promise. Really good cooking, and friendly service, highly recommended.

Perfectly cooked Indian food in generous helpings all packed up in tiffin tins to make an elegant takeaway. Highly recommended.

Staff were very friendly and talkative. Food portions were very good!! There were delicious vegetarian options including main and dals.

We were holidaying in Lynton and the delicious smell pulled us in. We weren’t disappointed. Everything was absolutely delicious. So much so we visited a further two times during our week long stay. Never had so much curry in one week but we all loved it! Thank you spicy mare.

Incredible and consistently delicious food. The Spicey Mare never fails to deliver and is hugely talented with her flavourings and cooking. You will miss out if you don’t try this amazing food. Can highly recommend.

We stayed in Lynton for a special family birthday, so we arranged in advance a selection of dishes for a large group to suit many different tastes; chicken curry, vegetarian, dahl, rice and sides. The service and communication was excellent from this small, personal, establishing business. The curries were really, really tasty and flavoured without being overly hot for some. We were down in Lynton for the week and on my first night walking around getting my baring's I walked past this place. I thought it may be worth trying for later in the week and would be a taste of home. My wife is of Indian heritage so we have plenty of curries. I went on-line and came across all there glowing reviews so assumed it must be good. So, we headed out later in the week and tried the tomato dhal. It cost us £8 for about 3 ladles which not much at all and looked a bit lost in the plastic tub. Anway, we got back and I tried some and there was just a total lack of any flavour, totally bland, no taste of any spices at all. If this does pass for what some people are saying is the best curry, they have tasted then...hmm. It is very rare that I do post something that is negative and perhaps this was just this one dish but the cost to volume was grim. To end on a positive note, my daughter did like the home-made mango chutney.

Popped in looking for a dinner solution for our family and was delighted to find such a great range of curries that could be heated up at our convenience (essential with small children to deal with in the evening!). The owner was so lovely and helpful anf the food was fantastic. If we lived in Lynton, I'd be unable to stay away! Thanks for a great meal!

Best Chicken Tikka Masala I’ve ever had! Cauliflower, potatoe and pea curry and the Tarka Dal both delicious as well! Great service with the Tiffin Tins and a very friendly cook! Really enjoyed this authentically cooked Indian meal! Thanks!

Best homemade Curry I've ever tasted We found this resturant by chance followed this amazing aroma ! We were meet with a charming array of simply cooked curries but they were cooked with great care and a real authentic heart of good wholesome food all cooked and served in metal tins to carry home and return the next day !! So all environmentally friendly too A pleasure to eat too

Our small batch Indian takeaway from the Spicy Mare was absolutely delicious! A beef curry would not be our normal first choice but the beef kerala was amazing and I would recommend in an instant. We tried everything available that evening and it was all fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Thoroughly recommended!

Popped in for a regular top up of frozen dahl dishes, these are wonderfully varied, subtle, wholesome, and delicious. Came away with a jar of stunning freshly roasted (still warm) and vibrant garam masala, plus a jar of lime curd as well, which already needs replacing! Super fresh ingredients, mouth watering aromas, and great service, what's not to like!
