Spice Lounge Indian Cuisine in North Devon

Food was very good, but kept waiting for nearly two hours for food, which we had to ask for in the end. Two sides turned up after we had almost finished and a curry sauce never materialised. Great shame, as the food was lovely but the communication was dire. The manager brought us free drinks after the meal to apologise, but I have to say the customer service was very poor. A simple explanation of any issues would have helped but nothing was explained! Great shame.

Turned up. 1 hours 40 minutes later we had to order our meal for takeaway as It seemed they had forgotten we had ordered at diner service. Asking questions about food was terrible as the language barrier was awful. Service was not great and atmosphere was horrific. It’s a shame because the food when we finally received after 1 hour 40 minute wait, and driving home to eat after table service. Was delicious. Needs sorting

Food is really good! Tried plenty of dishes, my go to is the mixed biriani - flavours are perfect and the consistency is bang on every time. Friendly and polite owners /staff - nothings too much trouble. Best in town for sure, and not had a better biriani anywhere to date. Top job Spice Lounge!

Decent curry. Nice staff. Make note that you can park for free on the evening in the carpark over the road. The signage doesn’t make it fully clear. But this is the case.

The restaurant has a good location and acceptable furnishing, but the taste of the food was below the expected level, especially the masala dish, which tasted bland and not delicious. Garlic bread is the only type I liked. Average prices

We were welcomed as soon as we walked in. The waiter realized we were American and made some great suggestions for a Starter and dishes we should try. Every dish was delicious. We came in by chance but it turned out to be a very fortunate choice.

Great Tandoori! Marinaded chicken, beautiful. Also had an Afghan chicken which was fantastic. Cheers Drummond. 😉

Went to Spice Lounge tonight for the first time and would happily go back again if I lived here. Highly recommend that you give it a try you won't be disappointed. The food was excellent and ghe sraff were friendly and very helpful. First Class.

1st visit as we're in the area on holiday and fancied a change to pub food. The food was delicious, generous portions and came out piping hot. Friendly service. Great choice of dishes. Would definitely recommend

Very poor service, we requested 2 tandoori lamb leg pieces as my children age 2 and 4 only eat leg and not breast, we were told they can only do the standard option of 1 leg and 1 breast, absolutely disgusted considering they have the chicken pieces in stock! Avoid this place as very rigid and unwelcoming service. Regards from a fellow Sylheti! Terrible avoid!

Definitely don’t recommend. Waiter was rude and unhelpful. Not authentic Indian food and they are unapologetic about it (“we just pour sauce on top of already prepared meat” “that’s how things are in this area and that’s what people expect”). Our captain strongly recommend against it but we stupidly didn’t listen. Definitely would not go again.

0 star if possible. Out of all the Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani restaurants I've been to, this has to be the worst. Awful service, awful food. I make it a point to go to an Indian restaurant every new town I go to, hence I know the quality - this is the worst - not just in the UK , but across continental Europe. Avoid!

We went there for my wife’s birthday meal as this was the nearest Indian restaurant to our resort. We were very happy with the food and service. Overall we had a great experience

Great food and service their Naan breads are excellent i would reccommend the chees and garlic naan delicious!

Had the paneer pekora for starter and then the lounge special for main dish. Both absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

Wow some of the best Indian food we've ever tasted truly outstanding cannot recommend highly enough, mix biryani,chicken korma,mushroom rice keema naan if you are in Ilfracombe and you fancy an Indian just come here you won't regret it 11/10

Family of 5, we ordered online for collection, we had the chicken tikka and lamb tikka starters, lamb was a bit chewy but chicken very nice, for mains we had chicken tikka masala, chicken bhuna, lamb naga, chicken tikka madras and chicken tikka jalfrezi, 2 keema naan and 1 plain naan, all containers were full and a good amount of meat, the food was very good and would highly recommend 😋🍽️ we were also given 3 free poppadoms and chutneys, if we come here again on holiday will definitely return here 👍

I want to move here ! We had 5 main courses and everyone loved it. I had Chicken Tikka Nagachi so that's the only one I can personally comment on. So many flavours you can taste in the sauce. This feels so freshly made and just wonderful. And yeah, definitely warming on the throat 🥵. Perfect.

Food and service was excellent, perhaps the best Indian food I've ever had. We all had a great time, went in hungry and left as full as could be.

I don't usually review anything. The food was amazingly high quality, delicious. The staff were very friendly and polite. One of our group forgot their hat which held sentimental value and we called after hours, and the staff were supportive in every way, always going above and beyond. A business which is an asset to the local community!

We had starters, main curry with rice and nan bread, drinks and dessert. Amazing food like always, I cannot fault it. Service and staff very attentive, nice atmosphere for dinner.

Best Indian food in ilfracombe’ by far! Extremely authentic.

I ordered a takeaway on the 6th of January and I’m really disappointed, the chicken was really chewy and it was rushed. The next day I was unwell after ordering a takeaway.

Despite visiting mid week and off season, we were welcomed warmly and the service was both professional and personal. This is a large and capacious restaurant, which no doubt is packed in season, but nevertheless still had a good dining atmosphere when quiet. The menu offers some interesting regional specialties and we were not disappointed by ordering a couple. Good portions, piping hot and very freshly made. Would highly recommend The Spice Lounge to everyone. Delicious!

We had our anniversary curry here today, we have eaten Curries all over the UK over the years this rates within the top 10. Staff were welcoming and happy to chat with us. Although they have only been there a couple of years, they seem well established. Look forward to eating there again when we are back in the area

This is my favourite go to for a curry. The staff are really helpful and pleasant. This time there was 6 of us & we all had something different, each meal was very tasty and hot (as in temperature) The Naan breads are just so yummy. I can definitely recommend

Brilliant little spot - stayed open for us when we walked in at 9:10 on a rainy Monday. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Service was very good but that could be down to us being the only ones there! Hidden gem, it would seem.

Very good restaurant. Friendly welcome and good service. The food was delicious. My only minor complaint is that there were no "grownup" low alcohol drinks for drivers, not even Cobra zero (which is actually pretty good). Otherwise can recommend this restaurant.

We walked past it on our first night of our 1 week holiday and thought mmm, smells good, but walked along the harbour and ate in a pub that night. Then when we finally tried it we weren't disappointed, so pleased in fact that we returned a few days later. Lovely layers of flavour in all our dishes, lots of choice on the menu and guidance from the staff if unsure what to go for. Good for families, nice, comfortable atmosphere. We will return next time we visit Ilfracombe. Recommend the fish curries and peshawari naan.

We went in as a family of 7 with 3 kids. Ordered food and requested the kids food to be brought out at the earliest. We also requested tap water. After around 30 minutes water was brought about! No food still. Upon asking the waiter retorted that it will be served as “it needs to be cooked”. Very unprofessional and rude individual who completely destroyed our experience, which was nothing great as it is. Food was sub-par and so was the ambience.

In Devon on holiday and one of the neighbours in the village we are staying in recommended Spice Lounge as it is their favourite Indian restaurant. Can see why, all thought doesn't look much from the outside the service & food are absolutely brilliant. Very helpful and friendly staff. Generous portions and reasonably well priced. Really enjoyed the evening and well worth the visit.

Staff don't bother your request, food is not worth money, dal tadka is like they are giving to the patient. Google review is completely wrong.We requested for infant chair and they told us it's broken Never recommend anyone.

Wir sind ins Spice lounge Indian cuisine aufgrund der guten Bewertungen gegangen. Bereits der Empfang gestaltete sich sperrig: während zwei Kellnerinnen im Restaurant arbeiteten, nahm hinter dem Empfangstresen ein Mann eine umfangreiche telefonische Bestellung entgegen. Trotz unserer Ansprache, bat uns eine der Kellnerinnen, auf diesen Mann zu warten. Nachdem wir platziert wurden, kann schnell die Frage, ob wir "Paperdam" haben möchten. Wir wussten nicht, was das ist. Der Kellner zeigt in der Karte auf die Vorspeise für 0,75£. Wir nickten und bekamen ausgebackene dünne Teigfladen und vier Dips. Die Vorspeise stand am Ende mit 5,60£ auf der Rechnung. Das Restaurant füllte sich mit anderen Gästen. Es wurde sehr laut und die Luft stickig. Außerdem übertrug sich über die Fußbodendielen die Bewegung der anderen Gäste: man fühlte es auf dem eigenen Stuhl und die Getränke auf unserem Tisch wackelten. Dafür, daß ein als "mittelscharf" bezeichnetes Gericht mir trotz mehrfacher Nachfrage die Schweißperlen auf die Stirn getrieben hat (und ich mir gar kein "extra scharf" vorstellen möchte), kann das Restaurant nichts. Geschmäcker sind verschieden. Dafür, daß wir aber in Laufe des Abends zunehmend ignoriert wurden, die Rechnung erst nach mehrfacher Nachfrage kam und (zufällig?) zu viel berechnet wurde, aber schon. Wir verstehen die vielen guten Bewertungen nicht. Das Spice lounge Indian cuisine ist maximal durchschnittlich.

Absolutely spot on. Gave me that real old school curry vibe. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for that sort of thing when visiting ilfracombe.

Came from Manchester on a holiday, the only Indian close by but by far one of the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time. Amazing owner, amazing staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming but the food is honestly 10/10. Shoutout to sonjoy for the solid work. Will be back again

Great food and good service, using cheap immigrants for service but plesant, could do with more interior decoration but we like it.

The food and service was very good. The food was delicious and tasted freshly prepared. We found the restaurant by chance and was very pleased we had. Majority of the restaurants and places to eat are closed Monday evenings but Spice Lounge is open. It is definitely worth a visit.

I had the balti afghani and it was pretty good, though it was definitely better than my friends’ dishes. The wait staff seemed to ignore our table, several other groups came and left while we were waiting for the bill (we had to ask to pay three times)

Amazing food and customer service. We started with poppadoms and pickles, followed by chicken pathia, and lamb madras, with rice and cheese and garlic naan bread. All tasted great. We will definitely be back. 100% recommend.

We had a take away - the woman on the phone sounded very flustered when we called to order The staff were lovely however we found the prawn purée starter very bland The main was ok but tasted hot rather than tasty

So terrible! Everything tasted the same, brown sugar sweet. Nothing tasted like Indian food at all! How could some people here review this place so highly? All the dishes were over colored but nothing had any taste! They also use tiny glasses for the drinks so you’ll have to order more! What a freaking waste of money! 😡🤬🤯🥵😨🙄

We really enjoyed eating here, food and service was excellent. As vegans we didn't have many options in Ilfracombe for dinner, but Spice Lounge delivered 3 times in our 5 day stay. Great range of vegetable curries and we would recommend asking for lemon rice. Enjoy!

Chilled environment with delicious Indian food at affordable prices.

Went for a meal as we were staying in Devon. Place is a little run down and the staff make lttle effort tbh. Casual clothes and no ambence at all, the owners daughter was sittting on her own on next table playing on her tablet....

Set right in centre of Ilfracombe with parking in locality. Booking is a bit of a pain as they don't repond to online bookings. Outside is quite off-putting and once inside, it could do with a good lick of paint. Menu is extensive and prices...

Takeaway. I’m in love with the Spinach Garlic rice. I have it every time I’m down. It’s amazing!!!! Great service. Delicious food. Eating in is a lovely experience! All the staff are friendly and chatty.

Usually get takeaway from here but decided to eat in this time. Food is always really nice, good flavours. Staff polite and friendly. Eating in is a little on the pricey side but takeaway is good value.

We had a lovely chicken Tikka masala, kema rice, nan bread , and pompodom and pickles for 1 as a take away, served the 2 of us, no problem, plenty of chicken in the masala,and plenty of kema In the rice, it cost just under £20, so not to bad for 2.

We were early so there wasn't many customers In to give a review for the atmosphere, but I am sure it has a great atmosphere. The food was excellent and Sanjay was lovely and very welcoming. Service was very good and great value for money. Would thoroughly recommend

Decent food but nothing to write home about, service dodgy to say the least beginning with online booking system where my booking was not accepted or acknowledged although they plainly knew about it when we got there. The place was only half full so I would have imagined they would have been grateful for the table of 4 but on the contrary. We were seated and ignored for about 20 minutes, no menu's or drinks offered. There seemed to be plenty of staff milling around and they got to us eventually. Food was just about above average and decent portion sizes. Having ordered the most expensive thing off the menu, tandoori king prawns, they arrived and were presented tossed on a plate with a small heap of shredded lettuce, not really looking like good value for the sixteen quid price tag. Presentation was truly useless, when I asked for some lemon to squeeze onto the prawns I was eventually given 2 wafer thin dried up lemon slices that were plainly meant for drinks, not good for an Indian restaurant where you would expect fresh lemon to be in abundance. We all ate our food which was okay but not exactly cheap, £120 for 4 of us with a couple of drinks. Only 2 starters and no puds, I would have expected more for the money frankly. Hopefully they were just having an off night as the one thing that took us there was a decent set of reviews. Suggest they up their game on the service and presentation front which marred the evening somewhat sadly, shame.
