I've been to the spice tree a few times over the past couple of months. Great food and atmosphere. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. Good value for money and would definitely recommend whether out with friends or family.

The food is really good at Spicetree. The best thing about it is that the kitchen is separated into Vegetarian and non-vegetarian cooking areas (which I think vegetarians really appreciate) Service is quick and friendly. Worth a visit.

My partner and I have been to this restaurant abot four times in last two years. We have experienced poor service each time but the food has always won us round. They have always cooked the best methi lamb in Leicester. Returning this evening we placed our order with the waitress, having to repeat ourselves several times. Starters arrived and i can really recommend the lamb chops.... Delicious. After a short time my partners main meal arrived with our shared nan bread and rice. Not wanting his food to get cold I said go ahead and start. Well I tried for quite a while to attract the attention of waiting staff as it became very apparent my own meal wasn't going to arrive. Once I did get the waiter's attention he was extremely apologetic and said he would get my meal as soon as he could. My meal arrived as my partner had finished his meal with a fresh nan. Unfortunately the rice had gone cold. On pointing this out the waiter said he would get some fresh. This he did but I had mostly eaten my main meal by then as my partner lookedon. My meal was certainly not methi lamb. On pointing this out the waiter said it had been cooked in a rush! So disappointing. The waiter was continually apologetic offering a free pudding or a drink, even another methi dish to take home. However all we wanted was to eat a meal TOGETHER and to have the food we had ordered. I'm sure this review will not affect business at all as the place is always busy. The price of my extremely late and wrong main meal was not included in the bill but our enjoyment of the evening was affected and we will not return.

Visited The SpiceTree, Cathrine Street, Leicester, LE4 6GA on Saturday 13th December for a 730pm booking and travelled 34 miles for this meal and meet family who had travelled from London. The booking was five adults and three children aged 2-6 years old, this information given a week before. As we arrived we were told they didn’t have our booking, we were then sat at the entrance of the restaurant by the door, where customers kept arriving and leaving. The table area we were allocated was by the front door so the cold wind kept blowing towards us and our poor children! The heater above the door was asked to be switched on several occasions, which was finally done on the third attempt to combat the cold. The table was also situated by the toilets so we could smell the stench of urine from the toilets. The waiter took 40 minutes to come over and take our order after the serving of drinks; the food menu does not cater for children so it was a case of chips and plain naan. The chef would not cook un- marinated chicken for the children. The children’s food came in two phases and missing items, the chicken was to spicy for them. A late bowl of chips came as the kids ate dry naan!My wife’s lamb Madras hot, came bland and the meat was tough, the mix meat sizzler was 90% chicken (not a mix)The chilli paneer never arrived; another mix grill was confused for a paneer/mogo/chips combination of utter excrement. The above dish was replaced midway through the meal with the mix meat sizzler, which was not a mix.The condiments arrived again midway through the meal; I then walked to the cooking counter to obtain my yogurt and fresh chillies, which had been requested twice. The waiter seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and was rude and abrupt understandable as they were so busy and he couldn’t cope he was heard arguing with other staff. After this so called meal we asked for the manager. The manager who looked old enough to be at High School decided instead of listening to our concerns it would be better to argue and be rude and blame the cooks! She had more attitude then an alligator on speed. Our complaint was discussed with the cook and waiter in front of us and a revised bill was issued, which we paid hesitantly. This restaurant will be the last place on earth I will be visiting if there was a zombie apocalypse; I’d rather eat my left toe. Be warned we will be contacting the Leicester city council health and safety regarding the smell of urine from the toilets into the restaurant.

We visited this restaurant in early November - we were a large party (approx 20).Although we had a good time with our friends I was completely unimpressed with the food. Not only were the portion sizes small, but arrived "luke warm".This is not quite what you expect at any restaurant. The Naan was cold by the time they brought it over & only the 2nd batch of naan arrived hot, but by that time I'd lost my appetite. It's a shame also, that a waitress was rude enough to swipe away a paid Gin & Tonic knowing full well the glass was 3/4 full. It was a good job I turned around in time to stop her taking it away.Would I come again? There are plenty of other Indian restaurants to visit in Leics such as The Clowes, where food & service is much better! I'd be more inclined to spend my money at those establishments in the future!! Don't waste your cash at the Spicetree

I live in Los Angeles and visit Leicester quite often. The old "Coro" now sports 2 separate kitchens one for Veg and the other for Non Veg. A couple of years ago Spice Tree came out with their Quorn menu. Quorn Tikka, Quorn Masala and Soy Samosas are to die for. I recently visited Spice Tree 3 times during my last visit. This is what else i recommend:1. Quorn Pilli Pilli - good amount of spice not too overbearing2. Stir Fried Aubergines - one word (WOW)3. Quorn Madras - tons of great flavor and taste, with great consistency in the curry (yes i spell flavor with out a "u")Im back in Los Angeles and am going back again in 2 weeks. My mouth is seriously salivating as I'm typing this. Great job on the food Spice Tree and the service is good. See you in 10 days!

Its a shame this place is so close to me in Leicester that its always empty. They need to change their menu and their chef. We live near by spicy tree. We visited twice un the week days Tuesday and Thursday . On both occasion it was dull and empty. Yes there are lot of cars on the car park as a muss leading publicity to outsiders. The comments here on are all a false comments by the owners family and two young girls who run the bar but do not have social skills to attract variety clientele groups. This side of the city is mainly male (asians) and only go in spicy tree on Friday and Saturday night but by 10.30 pm it is dead like a cemenrty. This should be their prime time as you will see nearby woolpack, the Martin Inn and Horse& jockey are heaving with multi cultural families and friends having good quality food, music and fabulous times. The comments we have so far are from extended families of the new owners. It's not bad but certainly it's not as great as the pictures are painted either. You may visit the pub yourself and see what we mean. We have lived in the area for 50 years and have witnessed lots of changes and new owners come and go. That in it self talks volume if it was as good as the family purport it to be in their perceived ideas then why does owners changes hands much more than other rivals in the vicinity who are still popular as ever with the same landlord for many years. Let's look at it realistically not please don't waste time fabricating factual information that can be visible to a naked eye. Let's stop this biased family friends review at an incentive of getting a free pint if we pose good report on trip adviser sites which other landlord don't have a need to promote. Thank you

Went for an evening meal with 2 friends. The table had been been booked 2 evenings earlier, however no record of the booking. Eventually after 10 mins they found us a table right in front of the open kitchen which meant the waiters and everyone else kept walking by all evening and knocking our chairs/elbows etc. A very long wait for drinks - they seem to struggle with the concept of people wanting a bottle of wine, took the food orders fairly swiftly but the food was very slow to appear - probably a good half an hour and they forgot part of my order- I had to ask twice for the accompanying pickles. Food is tasty and hot when you get it though. A very long wait for the mains - probably an hour and again they got the order wrong - tried to give me boiled rice when I ordered jeera rice. It did arrive after about 5 mins. The food is very tasty and quite spicy and portion sizes huge. The quickest part of the evening was the presentation of the bill which was wrong - they had charged for the rice which we had not ordered but they did apologise and deduct it.One person out of the 3 was ill shortly after leaving the restaurant though we cannot say it was the food but we ate different food so it cannot be ruled out.In all the food is not bad when it arrives but expect a long wait, expect them to mess up the order and don`t expect any sort of service from the waiters or waitresses - they are appalling. The restaurant is very noisy so don`t expect a quiet meal out. It was the 3rd time visiting here and the last. The service has gone completely downhill - such a shame as a year ago the restaurant was amazing.

We booked a table for 12 this weekend where we ordered drinks within 5 minutes of being seated as well as 3 portions of chips for the children in our party. This was at 8.30pm. We also ordered starters soon after at 8.45pm the drinks arrived at 9pm and after constant questioning about the chips they didn't actually arrive until 9.30pm with our starters. Shortly before our starters arrived we decided we had better order mains as they were slow. So keeping in mind we ordered mains at around 9.25pm, they arrived no earlier than 10.45pm.Starters were great although they took over an hour to deliver, but the mains were absolutely disgusting, tasteless, bland and quite rubbery. Not to mention the fact that no naan or rice arrived until 15 minutes later so it went cold anyway. The waitress as sweet as she was didn't seem all that bright and did nothing to explain why it took so long. By 10.30pm 2 diners left us which we made clear to management, with no response from them at all. No mains dish was touched apart from a spoon or two. This was such an embarrassing experience as we were entertaining guests visiting from over 200 miles away! When my husband spoke to another waiter he told us that he felt so bad as he saw them cooking our mains in the kitchen in a rushed way and not even bothering, but there was nothing he could do about it. All we were offered was a 10% discount on the bill, but this wasn't about the money, this is a joke for a restaurant and I would advise people to stay away at all costs. 6 of our party members suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting after this as well as the entire party complaining of itching within an hour of being in there and the following day. We tried to leave many times but were promised our food was on the way. I feel ashamed that a restaurant like this even exists in Leicester. Shut it down!

I have been to SpiceTree a few times and every time me and partner have had a wonderful experience. I don't like the rush and loudness of the weekends so we often during the week after 10. The restaurant looks very big but it some how has a cosy feeling about it. It also has two kitchens, a great concept, where one kitchen is purely vegetarian food and a separate kitchen is non-vegetarian. It's great as I'm planning on taking my parents there as they're vegetarian. The food is also very nice, we always ask for the chef's special dishes as they are really special. The vegetarian food isn't bad either! The service we receive every time is really good. The waiter that serves us during the week is very nice, he's professional and very informative on how long the food will take to come, and he's always accurate. He knows what he's talking about, he gives great advice on the dishes and recommends us a number of dishes off a description we have given him on what we like. He is also very friendly, making our meals a very enjoyable experience and often sharing a joke with us.One bad thing that i did notice about the restaurant on a couple of visits was that there is always a table of family members, or I think they are as they act like it, that always come and eat. They are very noisy in an almost empty restaurant. They are constantly swearing and very loud. I know another couple, that were in the restaurant, also started to get irritated in what was a good atmosphere.Really give this restaurant a try! It's a gem that isn't on Melton Road!

This is odd restaurant cramped seating arrangements most ofthe restaurant floor is taken up by two kitchens one that cooks Veg & other Non Veg. Strange concept its either on or the other. Later that evening we complained to the owners, who also run Lakhani Motors. Looks like they're trying run a restaurant like garage...on the tight! In short this place is nothing to write home about, mediocre staff & owners, average food, cramped seating arrangements. If you want a quality Indian restaurant, visit one of many on Belgrave Road. Well I have been to this place not once but thought I would give them a second chance to impress. All I can say is that the place is run as bad as "faulty towers!". On both occasions they had run out of one or other of the meats. On both occasions it was so cold we had to ask them to put the heating on and when the food arrived it was cold so had to be reheated. And as for customer service, forget it!! They don't have any as they never apologised for the poor heating, long waits for food and cold food when you get it. As for not being able to offer certain dishes is a joke as they should learn from mistakes not keep making them repeatedly. To top it all off our drinks came after several requests and when you go to wash your hands in the loo, there was no soap and no one could locate any. Not good. My advice is avoid at all costs and go to a real restaurant. There are plenty of good ones to choose from in Leicester.

My samosa, that was in my plate, was thrown away with the original hairy mogo and was not replaced. By this time my appetite had died and the kids were tired of waiting.Drinks were very slow. Our drinks finally arrived after the hairy mogo, after the staff had been reminded we were still waiting for them.Service was poor, with food coming out very slowly. I remember coming here when it was the old coronation pub. Since then there has almost been a confusion with design. Clearly keeping the pub area is a good idea as alcohol sells! However the design and service of the restaurant is just odd. An open air kitchen seeing stainless steel and women in hairnets almost reminded me of school meals. Strange indeed! Secondly the amount of cars parked outside gives it a false sense of fullness however peeping through the window of an empty restaurant leaves me with confused thoughts. The food was standard for an indian. I'd rather drive 2 minutes down the road to Marten Inn for a valued meal. It was a great idea with this place but just strange.

The restaurant is a sit in and dine area and the food can also be served in the pub area (which can be quicker- especially if you want a quicker service). The veg food is cooked in a separate kitchen to meat products. The food is great however there have been times they have ran out of fish/chicken which doesn't help. The service can be very slow indeed and you could die of thirst before your drink gets there. Food usually doesn't take long to be cooked and has been fresh on arrival. When and if you need addiontal stuff getting a waiter to come over can be a nightmare. Certainly good for large/family dining but when friends go I feel they forget your sitting there and focus more on larger groups. May need to employ more waiters.

I'm a regular visitor to Leicester from London and I thought we were spoilt with the quality of Indian cuisine back home. Having visited many restaurants in Leicester over many years, I'd seen this place transformed in recent months, albeit I only saw from the outside. During my latest visit I suggested we, as a family, should give this place a go. So we turned up, all 12 of us, with high expectations given the very modern decor this place has. Looking through the menu, there was a great vegetarian choice for all the rabbits and loads of meat choices for us carnivores. The food was very well presented and tasted amazing! The depth of flavours in all dishes was out of this world! I particularly liked the lamb handi (on the bone) and the aubergine sizzler was also really tasty. To top it off, the waiters were very attentive and they made some good menu recommendations. We'll definitely be coming here again, in fact I'm planning my next visit to Leicester around it!

If you are on a diet and want to waste a couple of hours looking over your shoulder waiting for your food order then the Spice Tree is for you. We went for a family meal to the Spice Tree for a meal with our son, who had another party arranged for later that night. We had booked the Spice Tree nice and early for 6.30pm. We were among the first diners to arrive. We were welcomed by a guy who was sat near the door in a Camel over coat. He told us he was the boss, and a very pleasant fellow (apart from the over coat) he seemed. We were shown to a table at the far end of the empty restaurant as we had a 5 year old and a toddler with us.Our starter arrived half an hour later, And after we ordered the main meal. We waited an hour before asking the waitress how long it might be, she checked and said not long. The children were now restless, the toddler started crying because he was fed up being constrained in the high chair, we were aware that other diners evening was being spoilt. Passing the toddler from person to person and keeping him entertained was not working, we kept asking how long our main course would be. Eventually I got up and went to find the man in the overcoat, he was not there the bar staff said he was in the other room they would fetch him. After 10 minutes of waiting at the bar waiting for him to come. I went into the other room and asked for him, but nobody had seen him. I went back into the restaurant and asked for the 2nd in command. There was no second in command. I complained to the barman about the service and the length of time taken for our main meal, He asked if we had actually ordered it. I spoke to the waitress again and decided enough was enough. My son had the other party to go to, the kids were fed up and we were all still hungery. I left my son and the two children. After we had left the man in the Camel overcoat turned up and appologised to the other two members of our party who had remained behind. He insisted they pay for the starter. But it was pointed out that the whole thing came as a package and he had ruined our evening, half the party had left, everybody was still hungry and we had been there nearly two and a half hours. Never again.

I pulled up at the restaurant and must say that it looks very posh from outside however when i was looking around i thought i was pulling up to a car lot where cars were for sale.I went in with a few friends and waited ages for a drinks order, the waiter finally came and took our drinks order, im not sure if he was a waiter or if he was a customer as he had his winter jacket on as if he was going out. Anyways we ordered our food, we ordered tika masala, chicken curry, paneer tikka masala for the mains. They came out and the chicken tikka masala looked completely different to the paneer tikka masala, infact the panner looked like the chicken curry. So anyway the winter coat man came over after numerous attempts of getting his attention and explained that this is not a paneer tikka masala, he simply said yes it is our veg kitchen is seperate to our meat so this is how our paneer tikka masala is cooked. Shocked to the reply i got we just ate or should i say tried to finnish our meals however couldnt even do that as the standard of food was poor. I mean come on i might be english but i know what a curry is meant to taste like. Whilst eating a table next to us must have ordered a paneer tikka masala and heard the waiter saying paneer tikka masala and this infact looked like a tikka masala. So i called the waiter over which looked like a waiter and asked what is that dish on the table next to us, and he replied paneer tikka masala, i then asked what is this paneer dish on our table and he replied i dont know let me go to check. After 10 minutes he came back and said yours is paneer tikka masala too. I was shocked at the attitude of theses guys,AM I STUPID OR SOMETHING??When i asked for the bill the winter man came with the bill and said i am not happy with the fact that you mentioned that we were eating paneer tikka masala when clearly it wasnt. The only response i got was if you dont like our food then you know where the door is! I honestly could not believe what i heard! beyond a shock and humiliating for us!You know what i dont want to come back to your s**t hole place and experience the worse food i have ever had in my life. Carry on running your business like this you bunch of kids, no wonder you have plenty of cars parked outside just to make the place look busy and when you walk in its dead!!!Fellow trip advisor followers be aware of this place. Thats all i can say!

Last night was my 4th visit to 'The Spice Tree' in 7 weeks, and again we have had a great service along with great food.Yesterday was only a party of 6,previously we have had a party of 16. The staff are very polite and we found very attentive.Last night we ordered mix grill starters, both of the veg and non veg variety, and they were superb. The main courses that followed were equally as great. This won't be the last time that we return to the restaurant, in fact I will be booking again for my fathers 65th, he absolutley loves the shiekh kebabs these chaps sell.I also love the fact that both veg and non veg kitchens are seperate, this goes down really well with the veggies amongst my family. The fact that everything that we have ordered at the spice tree is always freshly cooked, proves that the chefs, the waiters, the bar staff and owners are really committed to providing a fantastic dining experience. To 'The Spice Tree' keep the standards high, and you'll continue to gain customers, as well as keeping my custom. Thanks again for a great experience.Bav & family

I would recommend take away don't sit inside for a meal the service is crap they don't even come and get drinks order, they mess your food order up and you have to ask to get your food. You have to ask to get things and yet they have the cheek to ask if everything is ok and when u tell tem what's wrong they do nothing. Needs new staff and new management keep the chefs they are the saving grace for this restaurant.

I had my graduation and 21st celebrations at The Spicetree in Leicester and enjoyed every minute. We used the lounge area to gather people and then moved the party to the main restaurant area. Everyone loved the food, especially the Crispy Aubergines! Everyone was impressed with the two separate kitchens - vegetarian and non-vegetarian, which was great as most of the guests were vegetarians. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming and always on hand if we needed anything. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone planning family parties or anyone looking to have a great meal.Great Food, Great Service, Good Times.

The Spicetree has a very relaxed lounge for family and a sports bar. The restaurant is separate and on entering it you can instantly see that the current owners has created the right ambiouns. My wife are vegetarians, where as our son is non veg. For starters we ordered Chilli Paneer and Chilli Garlic Jeers Mushrooms. They were both fantastic. For main we ordered mixed veg Paneer, Egg Piri Piri and Chicken Tawa. All the dishes were freshly prepared and were hot when served. The nan and roti were pefect. All in all an excellent dinning experience to which we will return again and again.

Atmosphere in the restaurant is very relaxed. After selecting and ordering from the great variety of food on offer in the menu, drinks arrived promptly shortly followed by starters and then the main meal. The food was hot, delicious and spiced appropriately (I ordered a mild curry and it was very tasty and not too hot).Overall my experience there was an enjoyable one and I would recommend The Spicetree to anybody looking to go out for a good meal.

The restaurant is re opened with vibrant and much more elegant menu on melton road. Lip smacking dishes. We tried the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb Kebab, chicken lollipops etc and at the end ordered butter chicken and lamb curry... all the dishes were lip smacking..in the end we were so so full...what a wonderful experience. The menu caters for all your requirement including vegetarian and vegan options. We even saw healthy boxes on the menu which had dishes like chicken Kebab, lamb Kebab, rice and salad ...all under a tenner. Will defo visit next time
