The restaurant is re opened with vibrant and much more elegant menu on melton road. Lip smacking dishes. We tried the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb Kebab, chicken lollipops etc and at the end ordered butter chicken and lamb curry... all the dishes were lip smacking..in the end we were so so full...what a wonderful experience. The menu caters for all your requirement including vegetarian and vegan options. We even saw healthy boxes on the menu which had dishes like chicken Kebab, lamb Kebab, rice and salad ...all under a tenner. Will defo visit next time

Take Away from Royal Indian has always been good... Chicken Karai, Chicken Tikka were 10/10... even if the Curry was slightly more saltier than it should have been. Because the Masala in those two items were still Good 👍🏽 But! No Red Chilli Sauce, Mint Sauce was okay and Nan was not bad... only issue is! CABBAGE! When restaurants start giving Salad in a Bag! But filled with Cabbage, it's not good and 100% saves money and a cheaper option to give away to Customers as Salad. But I cannot stand that. I will visit again and I will make sure its Salad, Onions, Carrots! No Cabbage. Other then that, it's a good Place to get your Curry Fix From. 👍🏽

Went to there stall at cossington street park, paid £10.00 for cold noodles and literally 2 chips, everything was so cold we ended up binning it. Would not recommend horrible food.

They do a wide selection of gujarati and surti food veg, non veg and eggs. They also do the same food as the Indian Rooster next door. Service is a bit hit or miss but the food is quality. They also serve alcohol at cheap price

Came yesterday with my friend and honestly the curries we ordered were absolutely great and spot on except the starter of mix grill we ordered was not exactly the best but overall had a good experience

Absolutely horrendous customer service! DO NOT IRDER FROM HERE!! We ordered as a takeaway, they missed the sauce, the part that brings your meal together surely!? Without the sauce was left with just rice and dry chicken. When we rang to ask where it was they tried to blame Uber Eats and brush it off on to them and refused to do anything about it because we were “too far away”. We will never order from The Royal Indian again! Customer service was horrendous and the food was only average at best anyway! The curry that we did get was far too oily and unable to finish because of it. I had a piece of inedible chicken. DI NOT ORDER FROM THIS DIVE.

Amazing food!!! First visit, was very impressed. Chicken Kalaji (Liver) was perfect. We had prawn sizzler, mixed grill, naan, Chilli chips & chicken kheema curry. All medium heat, food was on point. I was taken by surprise how tasty the food was. Every dish has it's own unique flavors & taste. It's not like most restaurants that use the same sauce on every starter dish. Definitely will visit again and try some more of the of the different mains & starter's. Very impressed Well done, The Royal indian!!!!

I was recommended here by a friend from work. We ordered Poppadom, pickles Chill paneer Indian egg lamb chops Royal nawabi sizzler 2 cokes £33.45 Food was fresh and tasty. Lamb chops very tender. Definitely go again or have a takeaway

Leicester's best sizzler, must try.

This venue has become the fail safe go to for our monthly curry club. The starters are on par with the best places in Leicester. The recent addition of street food inspired menu with beautifully blended indo Chinese flavours is worth a visit. Recommend the salt and pepper fish, lollipop chicken with the info Chinese sauce and masala chips.

Our group ate at this food stall on Saturday 4th June at the Riverside Festival. 6 people out the 8 (across 4 different households) all had Chicken Curry and Rice. Woke the next morning with diarrhoea. One was also being sick. As 2 of us who ate somewhere else were fine I messaged the owner to let him know of the situation. He was completely dismissive and it was absolutely nothing to do with them! This was no coincidence as was the only thing the 6 people had in common! Clearly a hygiene issue or something to do with serving food that’s been sitting a long time / luke warm food ?!

A standard practice of a restaurant is to get the basics right; which is food, service and pricing. Service subpar; no knowledge of what the item is (had to google half of the menu). Food; eh everything is dry how do you expect a small peice of chicken and half a leg to cook at the same time. Pricing, this is the most ridiculous thing about the whole ordeal, they have put different prices for the same items on justeat, ubereats and deliveroo. And they even have different prices on the same items when you call them directly for takeaway or delivery. They charged us as per their convenient prices which is not professional in any way whatsoever. The food is subpar at best but not worth the hassle really. Won't order next time. If you can't get the basics right, stop and invest your money in something you're good at such as garbage disposal services.

UPDATE: Went back for a family meal in September 2021 hoping that there had been some improvements but sadly not. We had a new waitress who could not really help and was not being supported. Manager who spent more time taking phone/online orders (even whilst taking our order). Ultra-slow service - we waited an hour for our lacklustre main course. Also the food is underwhelming. I will not be going back I'm afraid.... Previous review - We reserved a table on Saturday night in the ground floor seating area for a group of 12. We were really looking forward to an authentic Indian meal after hearing some good reports of The Royal Indian. This is quite a modern-looking narrow restaurant. Our hopes of a good meal and service were dashed quite quickly. Lacklustre (unattentive at times) service, errors with orders (how could you get a naan order wrong?) and a kitchen that could not cope with a busy Saturday night did not help. Starters were mediocre at best and way too spicy. Avoid the Mixed Grill. It is too dry and lacks flavour. We waited for over an hour for our main course.... What you would expect was a simple order of an "on the bone" chicken curry came to us as a boneless curry. When we raised this, they said they could rectify this quickly.... Indeed our dish did return quickly but after closer inspection we saw that 2 or 3 on the bone pieces had just been added to the original serving bowl. The Kheema Peas was just boring, plain and watery. This was a tasteless under-spiced main course. I am sorry to write that this was a truly unimpressive restaurant and meal. They really have some hard work ahead of them if they wish to improve their offering. Worth avoiding and worth going elsewhere I'm afraid.

S** place, avoid at all costs, its disgusting, toilets are filthy, food takes forever coming out. Its cold ,dirty and no atmosphere whatsoever. I'm surprised authorities have not looked into it. Restaurants in India are better than this cr** place.

I think the people who left positive reviews must have got paid to, because this is one of the worst restaurants I've been to. No atmosphere, no music no service and nasty toilets. Don't bother with this restaurant as they have twice rejected my online order without any valid reason! Waste of time trying to order with them and ordered elsewhere who accepted and delivered my order.

Never get anything from here, gave me a time to pick up order went there then they say 10 minutes waited 1 hour the said your order is ready but we don’t have paneer lollipop , come home and was missing chilli paneer. Phoned them and they say we have made it and it’s in the bag I have checked and nothing was there. Very rude and while taking to them they where on the phone as well as my order there was one more customer who had same problem. Never go to the place and never buy from them again. Zero rating for them and there service 😡😡😡👎👎👎

Greasy, stodgy, unstick, tasteless and generally dull. If this is what you're looking for, then you will be delighted. It's a while since I had to spit food out but the meat was like shoe leather. I dread to think what it was. Polite and prompt delivery.

Went here today food and service was amazing definitely will be going again. Never heard of this place just walked past and thought we would try didn't know what to expect!!! Was amazing glad we went. We asked them to make our food hot and unlike other place they listen and make it how you want 👌👌👌👌👌.

Always a pleasure to come here to dine. Staff are great...food is great. The experience has always been so good to me friends and family. I once celebrated my birthday here and they went out of their way to ensure I had a great time. Prices are reasonable and portions are good too. Their lamb chops are to die for! If you havent tried it yet go for it. They wont dissappoint you! What more can I say? The seating and tables are nicely spaced for comfort. Piyush is a gem. He served us very well and ensured we were looked after. Staff are definately very helpful and recommend their best dishes. What more can you ask for!!! Mint sauce in this place is made fresh aswell it tastes amazing to go with any starters!

We ordered food from Royal Indian for a small function (20 people) and the service and food was great. They were very helpful when we were deciding on how much food we should order. The the food was delivered on time and it was all hot.

If you want good customet service and food on time, go ANYWHERE else. Worst experience ever.

Excellent menu, great customer service

Great little Indian restaurant very small and cosy inside. We ordered the handi dum lamb briyani which takes 40mins as mentioned on the menu.I was not disappointed one of the most best briyani's I have ever tasted !! Great staff loads of options on the menu that you don't find in many Indian restaurants.

Food was the worse food I ever had I don't no wht kind of animals they want to feed? No starters jst mains no desert and even the main not soo much option. Not many options on beers apart from 2 and also that we had to wait for a long time never going there again.if I could I would rate 0 start but it don't go that low

I visited with 4 friends. We ordered starters, a mixed grill, prawns, fish, and paneer. That was plenty for 5 of us, to the extent that we didn't order any mains. Food was really tasty. Service was attentive. Will definitely keep coming back.

The food wasn't really the best. The starters were ok, the salt and pepper fish was mainly battered vegetables, with a small amount of fish, it tasted ok but definitely had better. The nawabi sizzler was on par with others but nothing special. The mains were mediocre at best, wouldn't be somewhere I'd recommend to anyone.

The Chicken Tikka Masala here is excellent. Can not remember eating a better one in any of the countries I've traveled to. Theirs has an almond/cashew aftertaste. That is always a sign of high quality when you experience a number of different flavors one after the other in each bite.

Got served undercooked chicken and raw daal!! And nothing was done to rectify this! This place use to be great, but since the chef changed this place has gone down hill!. This place will never be getting my business! Avoid this place...go to Wyvern tavern or Clowes

Went there with a few friends. Food was salty it was not edible. Tried to get replacement food however waiter was not interested. Asked to speak to manager who was only eating a few table from us it turns out. Waiter approached him and said we need to him. Only for him to turn around and say he is eating and wasn't interested. So we left the food mostly untouched and paid and left. NEVER NEVER AGAIN.

We sat upstairs on a Saturday night, the room was cold and the linen filthy!. It took the team ages to take and deliver our orders (they were not busy we were the only ones upstairs. They were short staffed as they had a live event at their other venue a few doors away). Looks like they corners to satisfy the needs at the live venue at the detriment of the restaurant customers. The starters were ok. The karahi chicken tikka almost inedible. I don't see myself going there again.

Been here a few times and have to say that the food has been spot on each time. Prawns and egg covered lamb chops and brilliant. Place is a little small but nice and cosy and the service has always been good.

I would definately give this place a five if they brush up on the below points... 1. Take that nasty food colouring away. It only makes the food look fake and the chef look inexperienaced. I did mention this to the main man. Keep the natural look. 2. Don't be ungenerous with your main dishes e.g. fish tawa only has small amounts of fish and a few fish flakes to make it more you decide to creat alot of sauce with loads of onions and peppers so it looks like a full dish. If that's the case then drop your price. 3. Don't keep your customers waiting for a long time. Keep the customers updated. I hope this place improves.

Never again. Went with family, set meal booked in advance. The place looks clean but here is the experience. Very congested sitting. Took ages for starters to arrive. A chicken wing was under cooked and pink. When mentioned to a waiter he said sorry and went down, I presume to speak to the chef. Immediately a guy, I believe is the owner came upstairs looking around. Called him over and showed him the uncooked wing. His immediate defensive response was that it was not undercooked but it was the marinade but he did take the peace away, presumably to show to the chef...... Mains took over an hour later after we asked for it (for a pre-ordered set meal). Can't say I was impressed with any of the dishes. They may have a 5 star rating but if they serve pink chicken in my eyes it is a zero.... Never again.

Feeling sorry for him i said dont worry. I let my family down and told them the party was cancelled only to find out later that evening when a member of family turned up in error that there was another party. I was shocked and disgusted. I would not recommend this restaurant EVER! How can any1 do that, this is clearly not a reliable or professional business.

Was the most horrible experience sorry to say but the food was awful the worst eaten since moved here. The kebabs were overloaded with turmeric powder, the chops were uncooked. The curries were awful taste. We actually had just plain naan in the end and left. Even my child was sick few days afterwards.

We waited around 1 hour and 30 minutes just for the starters. When the main came, it was really good and the food was definitely worth the wait!

Great food at a great price but it's always empty. I've been here on 2 seperate occasions and the food has been lovely both times. I strongly recommend the Paneer sizzler. Although a little spicy for my taste it's cooked to near perfection and literally comes out of the kitchen sizzling. Whilst you wait you are given a free appetiser of pappadoms and 3 chutneys. (mango, mint/raita and the third I can't remember) The owner/waiter seems friendly enough. Although there are 3 main issues with this place. 1. The place is literally empty (apart from the owners friends) on both occasions visiting me and my friend have been the only one there. 2. As mentioned above, both times I have visited the owners/waiters friends sit at the table next to the bar. This wasn't an issue for me but as my friend mentioned it would be slightly intimidating for a girls night out having 4-5 mid aged men sitting next to the bar glancing over every so often. 3. The toilets. Again I have the blessing of being able to stand up and pee. Unfortunately my friend wasn't able to use the toilets (which are located up the stairs on the right) as the toilets were not very hygienic. In conclusion I think this place would do alot better if it was located on London Road or where paprika used to be further up melton road. With its own car park and seperate building. Although the food is lovely and would tempt me back not on a date but with friends.

My husband and I went to Royal Indian on Friday evening - 8 June 2018 -as it had been recommended by a friend of ours. Staff were nice, service was good, drinks were good, and free poppadoms were good, BUT we ordered a mixed sizzler and garlic naans and when this arrived...the sizzler wasn't really sizzling as expected a sizzler to be. Also, the kebab, lamb chops, chicken wings and chicken tikka all had the same taste and was very overpowering with cummin. The food looked as it must have been frozen - as it did not taste fresh and was very dry. The garlic naans - the garlic was all yellow strands and it looked like it had come out of a bottle. The sizzler was awful and I would not recommend anyone to go there and order this. We will definitely not be going there as we have had such delicious sizzlers at other restaurants in Leicester ie. Sizzlers ....

The prawns with shell were really good & naan was nice. Staff very friendly. I didn’t like the chicken & lamb curry which they recommended so next time will stick to the starters & try their biryani which they say is popular. Sitting area is small and feels crowded.

Me and my extended family approximately thirty of us attended early Sunday evening to celebrate the life of my deceased grandfather. We had the entire second floor and the owner a staff were pleasant to us all. They not only recommended dishes to us but also made us dishes upon our request. Whilst they had a large number of people to cater for we did not wait a long time and the food was excellent. I have subsequently attended after this visit and the food was still executed in a fine manner so I find it hard to believe what some people have written. Well done guys!!!

I was having a meal with family on ground floor, suddenly butcher from across the road came in using main enrance with clear 20 kg bags full of chicken meat and wearing coat covered in blood. That was it, couldn't eat any more.

Worst service and food I have had in a long long time. The starters came out 30 mins apart, the mains where the same. The drinks were warm. Told there was no padadoms yet other people that arrived after us got some. When the bill came they over charged by £30. Staff don't have a clue and running around like headless chickens. Asked for food to be packed Up, when we got home we realised many of the dishes were missing. We will never go back to this place again.

Worst ever restaurant I've visited, customers get kicked out while you still having your food. Untrained staffs and not polite at all to you. As we walked in, had to wait around 20 minutes to get a table for us. As soon as we got a table there was no waiters or waitresses to help us and not ever offered us a glass of water. Managers kicked off as we said we won't leave as it was only an hour we got in there. Poor service, no communication between staff as we were given wrong information. None of the staffs even bothered to apologise as it was their fault. Totally not recommended. Would never go back to this place. Not even worth a single star, but can't go through this review without giving one but not worth it.
