The Spanish Galleon in Greenwich

We had an incredible experience here.. the decor, fabulous.. the food, very good. But what set it over the top was the service! James mostly took care of us and was so attentive, he made accommodations for us, closed curtains so our baby wouldn’t get blasted by the sun and we could sit in a nice corner spot, checked on us often (honestly everyone did) it was just lovely. If you are looking for a cheeky afternoon beer and some yummy dishes, stop by and enjoy an afternoon chat with the welcoming staff!

Just popped in for a quiet drink whilst exploring. Plenty of seating and quiet spaces for quiet conversation. Nice selection of board games to play, we had a nostalgic game of battleships with our drinks even if the set was missing a few pieces.

Terrible terrible never again £29.00 pounds for two drinks 🍸 😒 I go to central London and never pay this what is this a joke. Went straight to another pub.Complete RIB OFF

Great place to visit especially after the London Marathon I didn't have any food but what I saw looked delicious the Barmaid behind the bar Pippa was very hospitality, friendly and helpful when I'm in area again I'll definitely come back to this Pub again 😊

A confusing pub that doesn't know what it is, poor atmosphere, decent enough pint, and the lad who served us was very polite and sound, but there are far better pubs to go to in Greenwich, don't bother with this one.

Nice pub near the Overground. Was there spontaneously for a drink. Friendly welcome and good selection of drinks. Food looked very good, but we didn't eat there.

Visited here in a group ..1 meal never arrived .. no alternative was offered .. a refund was only made at the insistence of the person who ordered it .. not exactly a good experience or great customer service ..won't go again ..

The Best Pub food around in Greenwich. Perfect pub atmosphere and delicious meal for our group of 50 French high school students, well-suited welcome in the room dedicated to groups upstairs! To help the kitchen staff, we have reduced the choice to Fish & Chips, burger and fries or vegetarian option, with order in advance; this worked very well, limiting the waiting time. Smiling and efficient waiters, thank you very much for this memorable meal, brilliantly marking the end of an excellent stay in London! See you next time, without hesitation!

This place was great. Our tour guide brought us there for drinks. We had a great time and the staff were very friendly.

Horrible attitude. Bar man refused to serve me. When I asked for a reason, he said because I asked customer outside to buy me a drink. Crazy nonsense! No wonder why this place is getting less busier, every week.

Came to London for the weekend as a big group and came across this lovely little pub on a quest for some pub grub and this place delivered! Straight away we were greeted by James on the bar who was super polite and accommodating, James took us upstairs where we had a lovely little bar and terrace to ourselves, the food was lovely, the drinks were good and the service was 10/10. Thankyou james for looking after us and making this experience as good as it was! Highly recommend

Recently renovated, this proper British pub looks great inside, with a unique Greenwich-themed decor that gives it plenty of character. The staff are friendly, the food and snacks hit the spot, and there’s a cracking selection of drinks. Easily one of the best pubs in the area now.

Quaint pub with an exceptional Sunday roast and friendly bar staff. Expensive however but to be expected in the heart of maritime Greenwich.

A lovely roast dinner on a rainy Sunday! The only downside was the aftermath. Def have pins and needles from sitting on the toilet for far too long, but that’s more my fault than theirs. I’ll be posting a 3ply toilet tissue review shortly

Amazing atmosphere and delicious beer :)

I visited this pub for lunch on my own. When I arrived there was no free table and I asked the bar woman if I could sit at the only free table which was opposite to the bar and it was reserved from 4pm. She assured me that I could sit there and have 90 minutes until 4pm to eat and drink. I had my pint and waited for my roast when a waitress approached me to notify me that the table where I was sitting was not for a single person but for families. I told her that I had asked the bar woman before I sat down if I could sit at this table. The waitress started arguing that the table was for families and if a family comes in I have to leave. This is utterly disappointing that ruined my lunch I felt anxious during my lunch that they would want me to leave my table as I am a solo diner.

Stopped off for a quick drink and saw the haggis scotch egg on the menu, ideal for a little snack ! Scotch eggs were gorgeous, friendly staff and a really nice pub Thoroughly recommend 👌

Great pub. Came in for a drink and stayed for lunch, which was delicious. Plenty of nooks and crannies.

Walking around Greenwich market and found we were in the mood for fish and chips and a good stout. Saw the Spanish Galleon and the menu seemed to fit the bill. The atmosphere was warm, dark and welcoming. Ordered the fish and chips then took the bartenders suggestion for a double stout. The stout was rich and flavorful, if perhaps a little more hoppy than I prefer, but all in all, a superb start to the evening. The fish was a good, thick piece of fish with a beer batter. What more could you want? Accompanied by thick cut chips which were crunchy outside and light and fluffy inside. Completing the plate was a pickle (quite good, actually) and small dipping cups of tartar sauce and a curry sauce. We were a bit early for the dinner rush, but the pub began to fill up with what must have been local regulars as they were greeted by name. A very pleasant spot! Highly recommended! Dinner for two including the two double stouts was £57.

Staff are excellent, and will happily strike up a friendly conversation. Great atmosphere and cosy seating, although the piped muzak can be somewhat overly loud. Sunday roast was OK - a bit dry for my liking, but other food is reasonable considering it is catering for a large tourist trade. One of the better pubs in Greenwich centre.

My wife and I popped in for lunch yesterday and were impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff, we ate in the upstairs restaurant which has a great balcony with views over Greenwich street food market, food was excellent and we will definitely return

Randomly came here on Sunday evening, and surprisingly this place still had roasts! Came with friends visiting London, and wanted them to try Sunday roast. You know what? We did a very good choice! Food was great! All tree different meat were versions were delicious! Portions are big, and juicy! Also cutlery knives sharp, what is rare for pubs for some reason, and we were able to cut this pork belly crunch 👌

Una cálida y genuinamente amable bienvenida hace que sea una visita extremadamente agradable. Cuando entramos en nuestro segundo día nos recibieron como viejos amigos. Ales bebiendo muy bien (hemos sugerido cortésmente que el contenido de su estante superior quizás podría hacer una revisión exhaustiva en su momento). No podemos recomendar este pub lo suficiente. Ve, disfruta, ciertamente lo hicimos. Volveremos, eso es seguro! El Dorset Crew.

Unbelievable service was looking for a pub that was dog friendly and happened to find this gem. All the staff were so welcoming and gave us a seat next to warm fire. The food was so delicious very large portions we even ended up taking the rest home. What more can I say brilliant place fully deserve a 10/10 rating

Terrible Roast. Spent £24 for one of worst roast I’ve ever had. First the meat came cold. The waiter changed it straight away. The second plate came with warmed up potato’s and parsnip. Extremely salty gravy. They must have cooked them in the morning. Terrible. Plenty of good options elsewhere

Service ok, but this place shuts at 22.30 Google won't let me amend the hours. (Last year). A year on from last review, the new management have really turned this pub around. Very good service, fantastic atmosphere and great music. (80s rock, pop & soul). Get there early, itwas packed. It's a refreshing change from all the poncy pubs in Greenwich to have a "Real" pub again.

Lunch here on Friday served by the lovely James. Great atmosphere, sat by the fire, mulled wine delicious, and food was tasty too. Will definitely go back.

Typical English pub. You meet the locals, eat great food and drink great beer with a wide choice. Excellent service Amal is very nice, helpful and very professional. If you go to Greenwick and want to eat real English food you can't miss it. ABSOLUTELY worth trying.

So, it was so nice to find an authentic, classical, cosy, ambience, in a very centrally located traditional pub in the heart of greenwich village. Great pot of tea and homemade apple pie alwith vanilla custard, by the table, near the fire lit, warm, orignal fireplace. Served by the friendly, attentive, entertaining bar staff, James (who should have his own show) made the whole experience very british and xmasie. Will be definitely my first choice when I return back there, looking for somewhere to have a break and laugh!!!

It is such a beautiful and warm atmosphere in amazing spot the heart of Greenwich, It 's got a great traditional ambiance. James was so friendly, hospitality, He served us the great English breakfast tea and home made apple pie. It was splendid. We will book for Sunday roast for next time

The Spanish Galleon was the perfect spot for a night out with friends. I went with about six others, and we all loved the lively atmosphere, especially the late-night music that really brought the place to life. We enjoyed a few pints of Guinness, which were poured perfectly. The staff were friendly and made us feel right at home. It’s got a great traditional vibe, and the location in the heart of Greenwich couldn’t be better. A brilliant place for a fun evening with good company!

Yearning for a proper boozer and a real pint of British bitter, on a short trip home and having ‘done’ a Thames riverbus, the Meridian at the Royal Observatory then the Cutty Sark we spied the ‘Spanish Galleon’. Pushing the door open, inside it was warm, cosy, (it was a cold November day), the welcome from the staff matched the ambience and to top it off the Spanish Galleon flies the Shepherd Neame jack! One of my favourite breweries. Two pints of autumn red and a steak sarnie I was fit to carry on with the arduous task of sightseeing! A proper local boozer as a proper boozer should be, reminded me sorely of a misspent youth! Can’t fault the gaff and when I can I will be back.

We arrived at the last minute but they still made room for us and served us. They treated us very well and gave us very good service. We had some good beers until closing time. A nice place. Very well decorated, great decoration and where you can sit and listen to good music and chat for hours.

We were made very welcome on a cold November lunchtime. Cosy atmosphere with open fire. Great soup and beef sandwich. James looked after us very well! Thank you! Our visitors from Bordeaux were really impressed! J x

It was a huge disappointment, we ordered and paid our food and drinks, waited and after 45min of waiting we went up to the bar and asked about our order. Turned out that they lost the order! They apologized and said it will just be a minute- all fine, mistakes can happen, I would have appreciated I they would have brought us over a drink or something as an apology while we were waiting for our food -again- but nothing. So we waited again, after over 10minutes of waiting, a waiter come over with a huge paperbag, said apologies and we looked at him in utter confusion since we didn't know what the bag was about. Turns out he thought that we said that we wanted the food as take away. At that stage it had been over an hour since we order. No idea how they could think that we wanted it as take away. So we explained to him that we of course wanted to have it here, so he left again and we waited AGAIN. After 10 minutes (!!!) he finally came back again, with the food. And guess what- it was cold. We lost over 1.5h cause of this restaurant. In my opinion they could have handled that so much better than they did. Such a waste of money and time.

Came here for the first time with a friend few weeks ago on a Sunday 3/11/24. Was lovely atmosphere. Staff are amazing! Drinks are good! Love the pub and the decor. Had the fire burning too, which was a nice touch! Will be coming back again soon to visit you guys ☺️

We were a large birthday group who turned up, unannounced after a small crawl round Greenwich with 6 pubs left (we didn't hit them) we went in and didn't leave til near enough closing! In other places we would have been have turned away, but we were treated to exceptional service and the staff and manager went above and beyond. They were amazing! James and Nathaniel are an absolute credit to the pub. Daniel (who is also wonderful) should be proud to have these guys working there and representing the pub. We had an absolutely cracking evening. The pub is great, the staff are lovely and there is a great drinks selection too! We didn't eat but what food we saw served looked great! Highly recommend this pub. It's a must go in the centre of Greenwich!

Such friendly reception! I walked in the door and was instantly welcomed and given options of where to sit for our comfort as well. This kind of service really makes a difference. The toasties we had were really good as well. Thanks heaps. I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely lovely pub, I come here with my parents every time they come up to visit. James (with the bun) was incredibly welcoming and humorous; he truly made our visit better than ever. He is a real asset to the pub and made our visit even more special.

We have only went there for a drink. Definitely worth it. Beer/ale was good as was appletiser for kids. Staff was wellcoming and talkative. We have enjoyed it.

Went here today with my husband. Ordered a sandwich and a toastie got two toasties but kept them as we were hungry..as my husband was finishing his last portion. He found a hair in it ...when he told the barman he replied oh sorry ill tell the kitchen!!!absolutely disgusted. Food hygiene rating 0. Will not be returning!.

Good food, good atmosphere and great service! Daniel, the assistant manager, made sure we were sitting comfortably and was very engaging. Ethan (I think that was his name) behind the counter, was also very nice. Will return if we ever go back to Greenwich.

Great location near Cutty Sark for a quick feed after a tour. Go for a classic dish!

Avoid! Such a shame to see this pub revert to bad customer service. This pub “used” to. be excellent and a regular for us. We booked a table for 8 people some weeks ago and explained we had dogs with us. We had done this previously with no problems. However they appear to have changed management! They decided because we had a dog we could only be in a certain area which was in the front door on stools! When we asked if we could relocate to somewhere else so not to block the front door and somewhere with a proper table as we were having Sunday Lunch, the manager just dismissed us and said no. The pub was empty, now I know why! He had decided to stick 8 adults on 3 small round tables and six stools in the doorway and next to a burning fire?! Great idea half the table can freeze whilst the other boil! No loss to us, walked out and went to The Mitre round the corner who was only happy to accommodate us, if you want to know how to run a pub and learn customer service I suggest you pop round. The Mitre also enjoyed the £800 we spent and they will be getting more of our business from now on. Such a shame to see this pub return to the hellhole it used to be after all the work the last people did.
