The Oystercatcher in Greenwich

I had my 21st birthday and my mother's 50th birthday party here. We completely fell in love with the venue due to its interior and the stunning view of the Thames. So we decided hire the whole venue. Everything was fantastic. From the two course meal to the cocktails, everything was so delicious. The staff are so attentive and thoughtful, they truly made the evening a success. Couldn't recommend enough. We have since been back for lunches and drinks! Thank you Oystercatcher!

Great chicken and gym advice to check around town

Food great, location great, servers good... meant to be a bottomless brunch, they got funny with the pouring saying everyone's glass had to be empty before anyone got topped up! Would not go for the brunch again but food maybe. Hi Tom ** sorry but you are are just using safe drinking rules as an excuse for limiting the bottomless brunch and saving costs. You would not open a bottle until the whole tables glasses were empty... that is not bottless to each person paying the same amount! Others drink at different paces.

Slopey shoulders staff who make you feel like you're an inconvenience. We visited on a late Saturday afternoon, place was quiet. The basic fundamentals of customer service not present. Not even a smile. Disastrous decision to go there. Food okay, but disappointing menu for what seems like a fish restaurant. Never again. :(

Came yesterday for Easter Sunday. Was very quiet. We ordered starters which were delicious, particularly the oysters. We had to ask if we could have the heating on as it was a bit nippy which the manager did straight away. All us adults went for the roast lamb which wasn’t very warm but overall was very tasty. The kids had the cheese burger and fries which they really enjoyed. Upstairs was unfortunately closed as it is absolutely stunning up there and a little more secluded. Will definitely return and hopefully get to sit upstairs next time. Staff were all very friendly and attentive.

Just a few minutes walk along the river from the bustling middle of Greenwich, set among a modern area with restaurants & cafes. Friendly staff and lots of outdoor seating & tables, a great spot for a quiet beer while enjoying the commercial barges & tourist boats. Great views along the river views of the Canary Wharf precinct and views down the Thames to the city skyline including the Gherkin & the Shard.

The view is great, atmosphere is ok but the food was one of the worst I ever experienced, didn't want to complain as I went for a christening but my pork crackling was so hard on every side that my fork and knife didn't go through it 🤦🏻luckily the view was there to save the day

This was shame us the location is a excellent place to spend Morhers Day but the food was poor to say the least the staff did their best but the food let them down badly the prawn cocktail starter was very bland and the Mains were luke warm at best plus we were left waiting for 2 dinners which were so late the rest of us had finished before we got these and when i asked where the 2 dinners were the waitress came back with 2 Guinness's !! , we were given 50% off of the food but this did not make up for the disappointing Mothers Day 😒

Was bitterly disappointed with this place, I wouldn’t usually post a negative comment about a business but this place needs a shakeup if it wants people to return .Being it was Mother’s Day, they were unprepared for a day they should have been prepared for, it felt like it took a lifetime for the staff to come over to our table, the starters were ropey at best ( not just mine) the veg that came with the lukewarm roast was bordering cold, two of our party’s food hadn’t came by the time the rest of us had already eaten, the drink glasses were dirty & the men’s toilets were in a bad way with a broken toilet seat & graffiti on the wall. Although the staff were apologetic & offered us a discount, this place is one to avoid, the only good thing was the view.

The food was uninspiring. Dry potatoes , unseasoned veg, soggy crackling and cardboard Yorkshire puddings! The chef was also very rude. Being by the river was beautiful. The waitress and the manager were fabulous!

This was my first visit to the Oyster Catcher. We were visiting friends and wanted to go for Sunday Lunch. They recommended to try here.It didn't disappoint!! No word of a lie, it was one of the best Sunday Dinners I have ever eaten, and I class myself as a bit of a snob when it comes to these. The view is amazing, over looking Canary Wharf, the atmosphere was nice and the service excellent. A special thanks to Zak, who went above and beyond.

Restaurant in front of the river with good views. Good food, the portions a little fair. They didn't warn us that the kitchen closed at 9pm and we couldn't order dessert.

Went a while ago for Sunday roast, and their was 4 of us. But unfortunately, 2 of our plates came back with completely raw/ uncooked, bloody chicken. Sent it back and it took a long time to get it recooked, so we all ate at different times. Service was slow. When they recooked our second plates, it was yummy, but still disappointed overall.

I visited today for a solo dinner at 3pm. I had a lovely table upstairs and the view was nice. Greeted by friendly welcoming staff members, order was taken promptly but not rushed. The wait for food was around half an hour or maybe slightly longer which I think is very reasonable. The halibut was amazing. Monkfish scampi was nice. The loaded fries were lovely too. My only complaints were that I felt that I could've been asked if i wanted anything else and if everything was okay without me asking and it would have been nice if the temperature was warmer inside.

Oystercatcher wad actually a very different experience' we had a poor day prior to coming here, we met all the staff and they were all lovely. The food was absolutely fantastic, credit to the chefs, the polish chef just came from holiday and did his best to accomdate our needs. The drinks was all amazing and the service was perfect. Shutout to the staff( Bronwyn and Aaron- very friendly ) I recommend coming here- great experience!!!

Came here for a private Engagement party. What a beautiful place, excellent staff, warm and inviting atmosphere.

Staff are lovely, quality of ingredients are great but the inconsistency of the cooking is unfortunate. Food can be excellent or like my last visit overcooked and bland. The spot is great and if they got back to where they were before covid I'd be here every week.

Upmarket bar / function room, 2 min walk from cutty sark, by the river bank. Went to function room. Buffet snacks served with large selection ranging from crab to prawns to caviar. Food was good, service was good and atmoshere good. Location is excellent with river views

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Hannah was excellent at looking after us and definitely have a cheeky bloody mary, gorgeous. Will definitely return, if they let us lol.

Lovely pub to visit when walking round Greenwich. Dog friendly, we always sit outside and watch the world go by. Lovely view of the river Thames, they also have heaters outside for the colder weather.

Food was inedible, aubergine Kiev was tasteless and the aubergine was not tender so couldn’t eaten easily. No flavour added to the vegetable or salad, hummus was also tasteless and had a funny texture. Service was great though.

We had Sunday roast here before the new year. It was awful. The potatoes were rock hard, probably from the day before. The pork belly was also not tender and below average. Although it mentioned apple sauce on the menu, it wasn't served, I had to ask for it and they brought the smallest bowl of apple sauce from a jar, shocking! A small amount of greens was hidden under the meat. Overall a very poor quality roast dinner. Never again. Service was polite and they deleted the cost of the cauliflower cheese from the bill after we complained, as a gesture of good will but the dinner spoiled our evening, so disappointing.

We went there for Saturday brunch. It was quiet. We were disappointed with the brunch menu. It has a very limited selection. We could only see one main course that can be gluten free. It is good that they have a separate fryer for chips to avoid contamination and the chips were the best. One star off as both the table and chairs are dirty with cups marks on them. The whole place looks a bit tired and not so clean. It was not warm so I was having my food with a jacket the whole time.

Been here many times. The salt and pepper squid were amazing and the roast was very tasty. Strangely though, our starters were brought out at the same time as the main and we had to send back our first round of drinks due to lack of taste. Overall good but a bit of training needed I feel.

Tucked away Gem ready to be found! We popped in as a group of 7 for lunch, the menu wasn’t huge but had a nice variety. We ordered and service was spot on, food arrived quickly and together which was good! The Venison pie is brilliant and is a menu item I will be ordering again. Shrimp burger, haddock and chips, rotisserie Chicken and a Cesar salad were order and plates were cleared! Everything was spot on. Highly recommended.

We sat in the oystercatcher for a post dinner drink. Had a lovely seat outside (under the heaters which keep it nice and toasty even in november) - we ended up ordering a pudding as the food coming out looked so good. Next time we are in Greenwhich we will try eating our dinner here too!

Came here for brunch, tasted amazing and great value for money. Bronwyn served me, she was very polite and welcoming. 10/10 experience with great views.

Decor is lovely and view are brilliant - unfortunately that's where the positives end. We arrived for Sunday lunch and the place was virtually empty but the staff gave us a wide berth and we had to try to get their attention when we wanted to order. I ordered the vension pie & mash - when it arrived it had roast potatoes and I was told they had no mash but wasn't advised when I ordered - despite getting a long list of other things they were out of when we sat down. I am the unfussiest eater ever but the potatoes had so much black pepper on they were inedible and the pastry was soggy on the pie so I barely ate it. We sat with our dirty plates in front of us for 30 mins as no-one wanted to clear them away and were more interested in polishing cutlery. I would have told them about the poor food but not once did anyone ask if everything was ok or were we enjoying our food. Avoid at all costs - there are many better places to eat in Greenwich.

I've been a loyal customer of this pub for nearly five years, enjoying countless meals, drinks, and celebrations. However, my recent visit on the 22nd of October, 2023, left much to be desired. Accompanied by my wife, who had recently undergone a C-section, and our newborn, we experienced significant delays in food service. Despite multiple inquiries, our order seemed to be perpetually "next" or just "5 minutes away," while tables that arrived later received prompt attention. When I expressed my need to leave and requested to pay for our sparkling water and infusion, the person in charge deemed them complementary as compensation for the wait. The female hosts were more understanding but, despite our patience, our food never arrived. We left after 1 hour 20 minutes waiting, still hungry, and eventually found another pub that treated us with respect and served a delicious roast within 10 minutes of ordering. It's with regret that I must reconsider my patronage and recommendation of this establishment due to this unfortunate experience.

Myself and a friend visited the oyster catcher a couple of weeks ago, because we enjoyed it so much we decided to come back. She lives very far away and we came for a catch up, however we were severely disappointed. It took fifteen minutes for us to be seated and had to ask for our table to be cleaned and some menus, someone finally took our drinks order. A further fifteen minutes passed with no drinks, a waitress then came and took our food order. Half an hour had now passed with no drink and poor service, not to mention they weren’t very busy, there was a few tables max. We went inside to ask for our drinks and another ten minutes later she assured us they were on there way. Our drinks never came and after 45 minutes of waiting we decided to leave as the service and lack of care for customers was so poor. Another couple arrived at the exact same time we did. They were seated, served their drinks, served their food and desserts. And in the same space of time we hadn’t even received our drinks. As someone who has worked in hospitality for years, this was ridiculous, no one cared we were there. Very disappointing as the food and service last time was great. The restaurant was not busy nor was the bar, it was literally empty. Staff were lingering at the bar and talking amongst themselves rather than actually serving their customers. Overall ridiculous for a meal that would have cost almost £100.

As someone who's always drawn to waterside dining, "The Oyster Catcher" stole my heart with its stunning views of the River Thames. I can't emphasize enough how captivating the setting is, both indoors and on the outdoor terrace. The modern decor and the large windows create a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, gazing at the tranquil river while savoring your meal.

My niece had her wedding reception here at the weekend. The venue is perfect, on the river, beautiful sunset. The food was excellent and the staff were amazing. Highly recommend for an event.

Love this bar and restaurant. The outdoor seating is so nice with a lovely view. There’s always space and heaters for winter. They are super chill and friendly and service is great apart from when very busy and low on staff. The drinks are good and the food is decent. Only thing is burger was a bit dry and the food could be better overall but I’m happy to have it for an easy local meal in a great setting. I love coming here for drinks and it’s my go to nice place in Greenwich. This is also a great spot for dates.

Perfect service from the staff and the food and drinks were excellent - I am in here regularly as a local and it's always good. Sadly, this evening, a man who seemed to be a manager arrived and started making unpleasant, rude remarks towards some of his staff (while standing in the doorway smoking cigarettes). I don't wish to support a place that treats its staff badly so won't be coming back.

Both prawns & oysters were either old (close to off-date) or stored incorrectly. Very strong smell of the ocean / very fishy. Steak was like a lump of bristle. Chips were mainly oil (not potato). Brocolli was nice but also covered in oil. Glassware dirty. Service extremely slow - I assume that is because they were understaffed. Smoking allowed everywhere outside, on all tables, so if you’re a non smoker and want to eat outside, there is no safe haven from breathing in somebody’s smoke. The view is incredible and the place itself has lovely decor. Very overpriced & honestly one of the worst meals I have ever been served. Staff did remove prawns & oysters off the menu because they were inedible.

Fabulous views and great for drinks. Eat here at your peril, check the food hygiene score . refried food that tasted like it was from previous day. The sea food was either old or not stored properly. One of our party was very ill the next day after eating the prawns . The Oystercatcher need to address the food situation urgently.

Lovely place in Greenwich! The oysters were incredibly fresh and the variety of cocktails exceeded my expectations. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, making recommendations that truly elevated the dining experience. I can't wait to visit again and have a bottomless brunch there. We chose the Oystercatcher to celebrate our wedding and want to highly recommend the team and venue for weddings and private events. With 45 guests we hired the entire upper floor, allowing us the privacy we were hoping for while at the same time having enough space for a seated dinner + standing / dancing party including live music afterwards. We especially would like to point out the great level of customer service and flexibility we got to experience from the entire team. Communication was easy and very responsive all the way and we felt in very good hands from start to finish. All the planning was on very short notice and the wedding coordinator Laura managed to make it all happen in no time, catering to our needs wherever possible and managing expectations. Laura was also present on the day itself, welcoming our guests and making sure everything was set up the way we discussed, which was lovely. In the course of planning our day she also invited us to a special tasting, making it possible to try some of the dishes from the wedding menu as well as choose our wines for the day. On the day itself the food was amazing and the atmosphere created by Ollie and his team was super positive and fun. We got loads of positive feedback from our guests and all together had the best time and felt so well taken care of. Thank you to everyone involved for making our wedding such a happy, memorable day!

Update since the last time I went Service is downhill. It's not allergen friendly. Multiple times my order wasn't taken or delivered over 40 mins after irder. And even if you order over the bar, they include service charge automatically. ------ Great for a little tipple next to the Thames. The outdoor heating will keep you warm unless it's windy. The food was average but on the good side. However, do not order the calamari or or onion rings. The batter is overly satly to the point of repulsion. If you sit outside, be warned, there's a lot of foot and pedal traffic here so either you'll enjoy people watching or just munch at your food.

I had a booking of 2 for my birthday dinner. First course was squid, overcooked, and full of oil, I couldn’t eat it. Was disgusting. I gave them one more try. Main course was tuna stake, it is was looking great at first, but when I eat a bite I discovered it was full of salt, cold and raw in the middle. Very disappointed about this place! The chef offered to Cook another, but seriously 😐, and the waiter ask me to choose something else. I am sick!

not a great experience. took my girl there and food was cold and uncooked. a real disappointment it was her birthday too. so you can imagine. definitely not going there again.

Good place for a date around the University of Greenwich

Lovely view of the Thames. Shame it’s of the Thames but what do you expect from a pub next to the Thames. Food looked belting too and a Yorkshire pudding is only a quid

Came in Saturday Lunchtime, was a lovely vibe in the venue. My son suffers from a severe allergy and they dealt with this faultlessly, nothing was to much trouble and the food was delicious almost as good as the view! Thank you so much for being so accommodating!

01/07/23 Saturday PLEASE send a hygiene and food inspector to this place! These people will poison you or worse! I will omit the fact that the service is nothing short of embarrassing in this place, compared to which any provincial weatherspoon would be envious! We saw a big man with a beard and glasses (probably the manager, or maybe the chef) walk back into the restaurant and go straight into the kitchen with a Waitrose bag (literally 30 seconds walking from the restaurant) piled high with Hovis burger buns! Now I wonder, did they ever run out of buns and therefore give customers another commercial product? You can very well see the ingredients online of this product which also contains a very important allergen such as SOY !! What happens if someone is allergic but in the middle of serving you give them something bought outside the restaurant environment such as a commercial product that is not made from a central kitchen just to save your sales?! And would I have to pay £15/17 for a burger of yours with a bun from Waitrose that costs £1.70? Shocking (I attach photos of the product in question as we went to check ourselves immediately after the incident!) You are a disgrace to the entire industry! No customer should be fooled like this! Absolutely a disgrace, really hope you will just shut soon and I really hope for a food inspectors visit soon!!!!!!!

I’ve had few bad experiences within restaurants in my life, but the staff are so rude in this place! It is a shame since the place have an amazing view. Won't be back unfortunately.

Great food, delicious chicken, super service apart from one thing - salad leaves were unwashed (sand). Ended up taking them out of the salad and leaving them on the side.

Nice atmosphere near the river. Friendly service. Really enjoyed the chicken roast, the portion was huge for the price!

A fantastic venue in Greenwich, not too far from Cutty Sark DLR. great outdoor view and even better drink selection - the food is cooked masterfully and cocktails are spot on! The service was fantastic too, very friendly and informative, thanks to the GM (think his name is Andy?) and his team for looking after us!

Tom was our server, cant even begin to describe what a great evening we had! Service was spot on, food was to die for! Definitely recommend it! Will be back soon!

Awful service / shocking behaviour ! - cane into oyster catcher after being recommended by the bar next door : Came in said we are planning to have food and after a bit of confusion was moved to a table service table out side. After a shop visit - our waitress gave us menus - then did not appear again , at all . After hunting down our waitress as the 25 minute wait became tedious . I was advised the kitchen closes 15 mins ago . I enquired why no one took out order and was given a couple poor excuses . - and told the kitchen closed and the head chef wasn’t willing to cook anything ( Ross) I want to add this was all prior to 9pm . We sat down at around 8pm . So left with no food , no chance to get food elsewhere . I’m shocked at this behaviour and frankly think the head chef wanted to get home early . Not happy st all - was first time visit - places looked nice - won’t be coming back

I never write reviews (good or bad) but feel like I can make an exception for this place. Dreadful service, sarcastic staff, and dirty glassware. Sort yourselves out!

Just disappointed. I’ve been here a few times but this time round, it just wasn’t nice and incredibly overpriced for what we had. My family were visiting from abroad and they were disappointed. It has such potential to be great but sadly it has lost it.

Had a superb Bottomless Brunch. Good food, I had the Chicken Caesar Salad followed by the Brunch Burger. All very very tasty. Of course, copious quantities of Prosecco! Added bonus was a best glass walled view of the famous River Thames. Great service from the team that made the whole experience worthy of a return trip soon

We booked a birthday bottomless brunch for 11 and had fantastic service! Thank you in particular to Lorina for being incredibly attentive, keeping our glasses full and taking care of all of us. The other staff were lovely as well, we can’t fault anyone. It was a fantastic experience and we will definitely be back!

Firstly a big shout out to the staff. Super friendly and attentive. We went for lunch today and sat in the upstairs restaurant by the windows with an amazing view. We ordered the 1/2 chicken roasts and the food was delicious, full of flavour and a huge portion. Looking forward to going back again

Me and my family frequently go to the oystercatcher and have done for quite sometime as we live nearby. The service is always tremendous and the team seem to always have a smile on their face and the quality of the food is one of the highest in Greenwich. We came to the venue Saturday afternoon and was welcomed nicely by a young gentleman, given menus and told that a server would come to us. A young lady came and took our order and provided lovely service and the meal was great, we had some of the brunch items and they were top standard and cooked beautifully. There was a slight undertone of a bit of an atmosphere in the venue, one lady in particular was rather loudly being quite condescending to some of the members of staff, I understand giving commands and instructions to staff but the way she was going about it was borderline rude to some of them and was loud enough that not only myself and other customers could hear it but to almost intimidate the other staff members. Was really sad as have never witnessed anything like that in the Oystercatcher before and really seemed to affect the mood of the building. Hopefully this was an isolated incident as this really is one of our favourite spots to go to for a nice lunch!

Came for a brunch, was £42 and the main course was literally one slice of bread with 2 eggs really disappointing. Prosecco was cheap and nasty to. Staff were super helpful but overall disappointing
